All of us went out for a meal at the lion , The waiter service was very nice and very polite. I have no complaints there however I chose to have the small fish and chips at £15… The chips and one of my colleague chips tasted awful and the fish was Only half battered and was an exceptionally small portion . Pub was clean and friendly

Too busy to serve me… I arrived alone at 13:45 and asked for a sandwich to eat at the bar. “Sorry, we’re not taking walk ins today, you can have a bag of crisps”. “If that’s all on offer I’ll take it”, I replied. The staff member, a polite and charming lady then offered me a bowl of chips, which I took as I was very hungry and I’d been on the road since 7am. Now, obviously, she couldn’t read my mind but I’d have eaten a wet sock sandwich if there was one going. Why the negative narrative? I understand you’re busy - I could see it! Come on guys… a sandwich? …any sandwich? ….to eat at the bar? Now… instead of telling people what a great pub it is (the pint of ‘Landlord’ was perfect btw, I’m off to tell everyone here how ‘Scrooge likenly miserable’ you’ve been. I suspect there’s a stable and manger round the back. Merry Christmas!

Went here for an evening meal and had a meal from the Christmas menu. Food was fantastic. And our host gave us great service.

I had heard good things about the place and this was my first visit, I will not choose to go again. I rarely eat meat these days but decided to treat myself to roast lamb, usually suculent and delicious. The vegetables were perfectly cooked but the lamb was tough, I did not wish to complain - I should have done so in retrospect, so sawed my way through half of it then did not eat the rest. Then when the rather pompous manager came to take our plates away I gently said the lamb was tough I could not eat it so could I have it in a doggy bag and take it home. No apology at all, nothing! The plate was wisked away without a word, a paper carton was returned and put on the table also without a word. I was with an old friend and did not wish to make a fuss so let it go and paid what I felt was an extortionate amount for a very sub standard meal. are they trading on their laurels? The other staff were very good and also pleaant but their service for the masn was arrogant and downright rude.

This great country pub was a firm favourite of ours before the pandemic. As a result of Covid we stopped going out mostly and have recently started to be more adventurous. Today we visited this wonderful pub with our best friends for lunch. They’ve done a lot to this place over the last few years. However, the welcome is still very warm, the ambience is warm and cosy, service is excellent and the food is top notch. I had their famous steak & stilton pie which was everything a pie should be - double crust, packed with succulent flaky beef steak and generous amount of stilton. The twice cooked chips were also excellent. Other members of the party had beer battered fish & chips. Beautiful crispy batter, bright white fish cooked to perfection and those wonderful chips. We had a great time with outstanding plates of food. Thank you for reminding us what a great place this is and why we won’t be leaving it long before returning. We thoroughly recommend The Red Lion in Thornby.

Booked a Sunday lunch on line. They took credit card details. No record of booking when we arrived ... just said sorry. The Wheatsheaf at Titchmarsh (half hour away) saved the day by fitting us in in their bar area...

Great country pub, quality of the food was great, fresh and tasty. Service staff were friendly and attentive and really looked after us. Definitely worth a visit.

Sadly this was a big disappointment, the restaurant reminded me of an elderly home with so many older folk, the food at best was average, also items such as Tarter sauce which you would expect to be part of the fish and chips meal is an extra, really? Also the desserts are really pricey, not somewhere I would recommend

We called in for lunch (3 of us ) and were so well looked after by Caitlyn and her team . The Red Lion is a lovely pub serving a great drink choice , even Woodefords Wherry, the food menu was very good as was the food . We all had Steak and Stilton pie , best one we’ve had. The staff are excellent and really look after you , as we had travelled from Cambridge and Caitlyn still managed to fit us in. Definitely recommend a visit and for sure we’ll be back but this time we’ll book.

Visited for lunch. Good varied menu. Food well prepared, well presented, very enjoyable. Staff pleasant and good beer. Very reasonable pricing considering good quality. All to be recommended

The food wasn’t as good as we were expecting. Notably the scallops were served dark brown in colour (all over) and impossible to taste, which was strange and unpleasant. The Korean pork belly was also overpowering. It was a busy service and the staff didn’t seem particularly happy to be there. No friendly greetings.

We had an excellent meal and stay at the red lion. Not just the delicious food but the very friendly and helpful staff and had a great friendly atmosphere. If we go to this part of the country again we will definitely be going back ❤️

We visited for a midweek evening meal while on holiday in the area. We found the service and the meal really exceptional. One is often disappointed when going to a pub for a meal, but everything was great. The staff were genuinely friendly and attentive and the food was some of the best we have had for a long time. One thing to note is that the menu seems to be changed every month, so although we booked on the basis of the July menu we were equally satisfied with the choices on the August one. We would efinitely recommend a visit.

No lunch dining after 2pm. It's a pub!

A really nice country pub with nice food and locally sourced real ales

Firstly cannot fault the food. Be warned if you have the large fish it is LARGE. Service was slow, you don't mind waiting for food because it's being cooked to order, but table wasn't cleared as quick as I would like. We asked for the dessert menu and had to ask again after 15mins or more. So if you are looking for somewhere to go for a leisurely lunch then this might be the place for you

Popped in for a beer and a burger on the bike night leather or Lycra welcome 😀 Burgers were very good as always.

One of the nicest pub meals we’ve had Warm summers evening so we ate outside . Notably good service throughout ( special thanks to Megan) - starters and mains both excellent . We don’t have a pud. Whole thing was excellent start to finish

A good traditional English pub with mostly pub classics on the menu. Staff were friendly and helpful and the pub benefits from some nice outdoor seating.

A lunch with work colleagues as a thank you for a busy months work. Great pub,lovely staff and fantastic food. The menu is extensive and the presentation faultless. Good portions and wonderful tasty food. A super atmosphere and busy all lunchtime. This is excellent top restaurant food served in a cosy village pub. Lots of parking, a 100% great experience in every way.We will be coming back.

I had a fantastic experience at this place. The burgers, especially the vegan option, were outstanding. The latte was excellent, and the staff was incredibly welcoming, even taking the time to sort a safe place out for our bikes. Highly recommended!

My wife and I visited the red lion for a Sunday dinner. I can absolutely 100% we will be coming back again. The food here is amazing, everything tasted so fresh and they had everything spot on from service to finish. Will definitely come back, please don’t change! ☺️

On a very busy day, the food was exceptionally good and the service was outstanding. We regularly eat out for Sunday lunch, trying all the village pubs around Northamptonshire and further afield, this was the best we've had in a long time at a very reasonable price. Highly recommended.

We popped in for dinner for my birthday and whilst we didn't have a booking, the staff were wonderful and despite the pub being busy they found us a seat and our food arrived quickly. The staff made us feel SO welcome. There was a wonderful atmosphere, such a cosy pub. Shame we don't live closer or we would definitely be there more often. My husband said his steak and stilton pie was the best he had ever had! My handmade veggie burger was very tasty. Everything was so fresh and well cooked. We left with full tummies and very happy faces. Thank you for having us!

First time we have been here for lunch, but glad we did it was excellent. Serice is good and Staff were friendly. Food was very good although a little expensive, well worth a visit.

Our family, based in both Cambridge and the Midlands meet regularly in a village not far from Thornby. Recent indifferent service at our regular pub led us to the Red Lion, and what a find !! Our party of 8 were allocated a cosy upstairs room. Service was attentive but not intrusive, excellent in fact. The menu is extensive and of high quality. We all enjoyed our choices. We would highly recommend the Red Lion, and look forward to returning

We were delighted to spot this pub on our way to Creaton and that it was open. The weather was awful so we were grateful to get inside into a lovely, welcoming atmosphere. The lunch menu was amazing and the portion sizes very generous-so many lovely choices on the dessert menu but we were both too full after our main courses. Lovely staff. Huge carpark. I understand that you can stay at The Red Lion; certainly something I would do if I were in the area again.

Have been past on a few occasions so decided to drop in for a drink, quite busy serice and drinks good, we will be back for lunch at some point.

Passing the Red Lion on our way home so decided to stop by for drinks. Quite a few people in the Pub and very busy but the service was very good, we will be back.

Came here today at 7 mins past 2 and the young girl on the bar said it was o.k to order food we ordered drinks ,then I take it was the landlady approached the young girl in front of us and said there is no food the kitchen is closed it finished at 2,the landlady didn't even speak to us and we were standing right next to her so rude,food was still being cooked and being served as were desserts .

I stayed two nights on business in the onsite suite. Very comfortable and has great space for relaxing and working. The restaurant is fantastic, we booked the upstairs table and continued our meeting over dinner. Great selection of ales, the menu is good. Every dish we had was cooked well. I had the cod cheek scampi, really tasty, a classic chicken keiv, plentiful and a wonderfull chocolate mousse. I will try and book for future stop overs for both again.

Came for a family meal on a Friday evening. The staff are friendly and super attentive. The food is superb and arrived in good time. It was our second visit and will be back again soon.

The service was first class the girls who waited on us were superb. The 3 meals were all exceptional. The atmosphere wonderful. We were told it was the best place in the shire…. I now am convinced. The complimentary onion glasses were fantastiche!

As regular diners here, today was very disappointing. The service was very slow ( took an hour to get our food ) The food was not up to much - two of us had light lunches with poached eggs which turned out to be hard boiled!

Visited the Red Lion on our way to see Strictly Come Dancing Live Tour on Birmingham. We booked for lunch in advance and were very pleased to find that staff were fully prepared for our visit as my friend was in a mobility scooter. The table was easily accessible and perfectly situated. The atmosphere was very friendly and relaxed and the food was amazing. The staff were extremely helpful and made us feel very welcome. Would definitely recommend and will visit again for sure. This was a special fun weekend away for us both and our lunch at the Red Lion certainly contributed to it being a great success. Strictly was pretty amazing too!!

This is a 400 year old pub, log fire, beams and good beer and food, perfect!

Had lunch here. The service was fantastic and the food was delicious. Light lunch options were slightly limited but our group had soup and the BLT and it was spot on. Will definitely be coming back.

A first-time visit with local friends on a Friday night. Excellent Friday night-vibe underway with very welcoming & helpful staff. Went through to the restaurant to view an extensive menu which changes regularly. The food was faultless. Top work, Simon & team!! Keep it up.

Was really impressed with this village pub. The rib-eye was beautifully cooked and the chips were perfect. The deserts were of a high standard as well. Both courses were reasonably priced and gave good value for money. The staff were friendly and knowledgeable about the menu.

Lively ambiance and tasty food.

We joined some friends here for lunch and had a really enjoyable afternoon. I can only comment on my food but the pork and chorizo burger was absolutely delicious. We had a bottle of Rioja which was also really good and one I would seek out to drink again. My wife had a glass of Shiraz from the bar before we were seated which she thought was even better. Friendly service and a lovely environment. Definitely somewhere I would return to.

The Red Lion just gets better and better from a really good starting point 4 of us had a delicious and interesting dinner. Great Scallops, excellent steak, delicious duck confit. Served with competence, attention and empathy. Seriously good food.

Fantastic food and service - really impressed with the quality of the cooking and the selection on the menu. We stopped by on a sunday without a reservation and were luckily able to get an outside table. Can't recommend highly enough. The blackberry curd tart is a showstopper!

How many more languages should I ask for an apple juice? And no kitchen after 2pm… Seriously.. Who stops serving food before 5pm? Good for a pint definitely but this place is not for families. Apple juice..

We called in on speck...really beautiful old beamed pub/restaurant. We sat outside as it suited our needs that day. Really good menu that had mire than just pub grub there was confit of belly pork/duck/steak/veggi dishes and they kindly swopped some bits around on the kids menu to accommodate us. Only criticism was no alternative to dairy milk for tea/coffees. But ginger beer was a really pleasant change and thoroughly enjoyed. Lovely staff. Have already recommended to family and would return happily when next in the area.

I visited for the beer festival, guest ciders were lovely and the live music was great both Friday and Saturday night. Plenty of room for everyone, bar service was slow but the demand was high.

My first meal at the Lion and won't be the last. Staff were so friendly, nothing seemed to much trouble & the food was delicious. Very rare to find a place that gets both right these days.

Lovely pub. Have driven past lots of time but never stopped we decided to meet some friends here Saturday evening. The bar area was busy but the locals were friendly and had a chat with us. We then went through to the dining area where the waiting staff were attentive without being over bearing. The food was lovely and the sticky toffee pudding was the best I’ve had. We are definitely going to return in the very near future

Visited today (04/04/2023) with a friend for lunch, having the chicken Kiev as a main and rhubarb custard pudding for dessert. Both the food and service were exceptional and I would highly recommend.

This is an exceptional pub with food that rates far better than most top London spots. Certainly the 'go to' food place in this part of Northamptonshire/Leicestershire. Its secret? Simple menu. Just a few wines. No fuss. Good price. Always gets it right.

Still has the feeling of a pub and not a bar. Food is fantastic and quite reasonably priced. Staff are polite and helpful. It's our second time going and it won't be long until we make it our 3rd time. Rough price, for beer, wine, starters, main and pudding, albeit we shared a bit of the starters and pudding because we were stuffed, £150 between four and that includes tip.

Shocking customer service! If you are only seeking a drink in this pub without food, forget it. The pub was busy, with most people there to eat, very few available places indoors just to have a drink. We found a table that hadn't been laid out for food and had no reservation displayed, only to be told by a rude waiter that we had to sit elsewhere (outside on a cold afternoon was recommended!), as our table was reserved for diners??!! We won't be returning!!

We have eaten here five times now and can say without any doubt, just fantastic food and service to boot. It’s so hard to fine a pub that does constantly good food, but now we have can’t wait to go back. You will not be disappointed 👌
