Absolutely delicious food and great service today. A hidden gem. Not the largest vegetarian selection but they adapted the menu to suit.

4 friends visited on a Wednesday night for a Thai night , they hold them once a month for £25 / 3 courses . The food was excellent, pub restaurants was full , definitely returning for the next one !

Had a great Sunday lunch but the portion sizes were small compared to other restaurants But the staff were so friendly and helpful

Fantastic as usual, it's a pub you go into knowing no one and leave with new friends! Food excellent, service excellent, staff excellent. We go 2-3 times a year to this pub and it just gets better & better. Go on, call in and give the place a go!!

We had a fabulous evening @ the Royal Oak, the food was amazing and the staff were even more so, nothing was too much trouble. We will be going back.

The food was good and filling but it did take awhile for it to come (I don’t know if it is because there is six of us). One of the lights is made of horse shoes and they don’t look very clean so a bit unhygienic but apart from those two it was perfect!

what a fantastic experience to experience on Christmas Day, we walked with the family from Hannington to Walgrave to the Royal Oak, a traditional pub in the countryside in a wonderfully hidden village. The tradition there is to go to the pub for a few hours and I would like to wish everyone a warm Christmas, we also enjoyed the typical traditional warm people we were among, fantastic!!!!

What a lovely little gem! Having met friends here for lunch after a walk, we were blown away by the quality of the food and the service. I had the brisket bourguignon and it was to die for! The service from Kai was exceptional, he really made the afternoon with his great sense of humour and great service. Highly recommend this place, well done guys!

I had my 70th Birthday celebration here yesterday and we had a really lovely afternoon. We were a party of 30 in the function room and it was warm and welcoming. The food was fabulous and the service was great.. A big thank you to Mark and his team for looking after us so well and making the afternoon special.

Only drank. Very pleasant pub and well supported by locals on a dull Sunday afternoon. Good choice of drinks and the Sunday lunches looked nice. Table adverts for Thursday Buber nights seemed good vfm as well.

Only popped in for a drink. Really friendly and welcoming. Looking forward to longer visit next time we Since writing the above we have visited the pub on four occasions recently for meals, both lunch and evening. We have enjoyed the experience on each occasion and found the food well cooked and presented and priced realistically. The staff are attentive, friendly, give service with a smile and always accommodate our dog. Village pubs must survive - it's part of our heritage! The Royal Oak wili, I am sure,continue to thrive keeping up the current standards of hospitality we have enjoyed. Visited again, today (29th October) and enjoyed a great Sunday roast. The team were great, as usual.

Fantastic meal with wonderful friendly service. Roasts were amazing with fresh vegetables and plenty of meat. Lovely atmosphere and not hurried at all. Dog made welcome too.

An absolute gem! We drove past this ‘pub’ several times during our holiday & decided to have dinner here on our last night in the UK. A local gathering spot with an incredible menu selection perfect for a special dinner. Truly our favourite meal of the entire trip. The waitress was helpful & recommended some favourites. Beet risotto with bass, sausage & mashed along with fresh peas & leaks/onions. All delish. Appetizers & desserts were equally as impressive. A must stop. A great selection of ciders, beers & wine.

I came with a party of over 20 on Sunday for lunch. We all thought the room was quite cold hence only 4 stars for atmosphere but the welcome was very warm and the staff were all lovely and helpful throughout. The food was excellent. My starter was presented in a 5* way. I also had the carvery and all the veg were cooked to perfection, the cauliflowers cheese was to die for. Plenty of parking too. I was told everyone in the group was very happy and we would all like to return to this lovely eatery. Thank you to all the staff.

Lovely village pub not a great choice on menu and had to wait over an hour for food

Friendly staff excellent service and great food

Such a friendly pub. Mark is very welcoming to his customers. And always welcomes you with a big smile. The Royal Oak is Dog friendly. So it’s a winner for Buddy and I. Plenty of parking available. No beer garden at the rear. But seating is available at the font of the pub. It’s a nice place to sit with a bowl of chips and a drink. Walgrave a pretty little village. Buddy and I have became regulars in here. And we will see you soon Mark.

Very good. They sell my favourite beer, Adnams. Nice surroundings and good food. The only thing missing is Steak on the menu.

Absolutely fantastic Sunday roast, beautifully cooked trio of meats, perfect vegetables and fluffy roasties. Excellent service from Mark. Good beer on tap. A really enjoyable visit. Didn't try the puds as too full, but I bet they've amazing too. Don't hesitate, book now!

My partner and I along with the dog decided to pop in for a lunch time meal having looked at the reviews. We found the staff really friendly, a nice welcome and a nice menu. Reasonable prices. We were certainly not let down and both our meals were superb. Cooked and presented lovely, hot and good size portions. Well done and we will certainly be back and recommending to others.

Last minute Sunday lunch. Great friendly service. Fantastic roast dinner, Fresh veg and cauliflower cheese at a fair price. Good menu with nice range of starters and desserts. Good range of beers and real ales. Good atmosphere to pub which has recently been taken over and brightened up. I will be back 😃

What a fun place. The pub has everything that you would wish for in a local pub. At the rear of the pub is a quite area to enjoy a drink and some food:. The front bar is more lively, with great banter from the bar staff. there is also a large beer garden with seating

Exellent service at such short notice yesturday catered for ten people everything was perfect one of the best Sunday roast we have had will most deffinantly be having another waitresses were fantastic as of bar staff and chef

Friendly village pub with good range of beers

Visited yesterday used to go to this pub a lot as good meet up place. Unfortunately yesterday a delivery had not been made, choice on menu very limited. Last time food wasn’t good decided to try again. Was expecting a crispy egg with the ploughman’s just boiled and we had a conversation with the person who took our order and he brought out the plates. When mentioned wasn’t expecting a boiled egg! two eggs came out which looked like popcorn on them when said to the lady we have finished our meal. When asked if enjoyed meal we said it was ok , nothing to try and turn it around. Customer service at the moment really important

Absolutely fantastic service (couldn't fault it) great food and a friendly vibe.

We love this place & visited for a Sunday lunch for our nephews birthday. The food was great, really tasty & so much veg to share. We took along a birthday cake which we expected just to be brought out on the tray we took it on, but no! The staff brought it out singing happy birthday, all beautifully presented on a cake display & decorated around with freeze dried strawberries & icing sugar, with the candles carefully positioned. Such attention to detail & thoughtful. Thank you for a lovely meal.

We now live just down the road from The Royal Oak. We have just had another wonderful meal there, celebrating a friends 70th Birthday. Wonderful warm friendly, happy & helpful Owner & staff. Highly recommend.

Popped in for a pint and a light lunch, fish cake and salad. It was excellent. Will be back. Service was so friendly, nothing too much trouble.

Excellent roast dinner best dinner in years past

I hadn't been for a while,several years to be honest. In the past we visited a couple of times a year. We were celebrating my wife's parents anniversary. On our arrival we all noted have busy it was with a lovely relaxed feel. We were shown to our table by our waitress and then our drinks were served. Menus arrived shortly afterwards and I decided on sharing a camenbert with the wife. This is a favourite of ours so we consider ourselves to be conisseurs. I have to say this is the first place we have been for years that gave you plenty of bread to accompany the camenbert. Then followed slow cooked pork belly with black pudding mash and veg. Delicious 😋 To top off the night I shared a sticky toffee pudding and ice cream which was also lovely. Really good night give them a try

Visited on a busy Saturday evening and they were able to fit me in at very short notice. Service was incredible, staff were very polite and attentive. The food - AMAZING. I had the Royal Oak Scotch Egg to start and it was divine & then I had the pan-roasted Salmon for mains with the potato cake and vegetables, it was the best salmon I’ve ever tasted. If I could give the food more than 5* I would. Will be back as soon as I can.

The food was really nice, service was really good too. Unfortunately we went during restriction time, so we had to sit outside, and it was really cold with the wind even in the summer!

Had a fabulous Sunday Roast here. Could've eaten it twice over. Delicious food (loved the puddings!) and superb attentive staff. Brilliant. Can't wait to go back.

Small, friendly pub with an interesting and varied menu, including vegetarian amd gluten free options. We were a party of 10 on a busy Saturday evening, and the chef and staff were unfazed by the rush although some desserts ran out. I had fish & chips, followed by treakle sponge. Both cooked perfectly. Very good value.

Booked a table for a last minute meal, and even though they weren't open for meals due to an event, they accommodated us and made us feel welcome. The food was fantastic and the staff were lovely. Will definetly be going back for more.

Beautiful food great service and all staff very friendly

After enjoying their fabulous, tasty beer battered cod and chunky home-made chips last week we took a couple of friends there. Bit disappointing this time. No side salad or cole slaw with it, just peas, and the cod was voted as a bit tasteless. Different chef perhaps or unfortunate pieces of fish? We tried the salmon and prawn cocktail, which was just right, sauce not too strong; and the scampi, which was delicious Good service anyway as usual.

Went here last night as we have just moved into the village. It was a wonderful warm welcome and a very friendly place. A lovely choice of ales and the the food was absolutely gorgeous. Will definitely be heading back and will definitely recommend!!

My wife and I were staying locally and chose here for Sunday lunch. Covid restrictions were in place but handled excellently by the staff. Talking of whom, the staff were wonderfully friendly, warm and welcoming. We ate from the fixed price Sunday menu, £19 for three courses. The local paté was superbly tasty with a truly delicious onion relish. The mains were excellent, with the largest Yorkshire pudding I've ever seen, and we finished with a sundae. Excellent value, great service - and good local beer. It's such a shame that the pub was nearly empty because this is a great place and I wouldn't hesitate to return. Highly recommended.

This is our restaurant of choice for quality and service in a real old fashioned pub in a quiet village. Ian the landlord keeps a good choice of well kept beers and John the chef produces the magic from the kitchen and regularly comes into the dining area to make sure all is well

Great to see the village pub offering takeaways during lock down. Looking after everyone in the area with excellent food, something to really look forward to during these crazy times! Well done to the whole team and we can’t wait to meet up again soon for a pint ….or two!

My wife usually cooks fish and chips once a week with frozen fish from the supermarket. This week we decided to have a takeaway fish and chip dinner from the Royal Oak Walgrave. Superb, the fish was exceptional. Compared to the Royal Oak fish our usual frozen stuff tastes like cardboard, I'm probably being unfair to cardboard.

My boss decided this local pub for a work do. Friendly local staff sourcing some local products. 13 staff went and everyone said the food was amazing including myself. Had a lovely bit of sirloin cooked to perfection. Couldn't fault the evening in anyway. Would recommend for anyone to go. Reasonable price too.

Lovely little place that does Amazing food.

The menu changes with the season using local produce, and an inventive specials board, we are never disappointed.

A great village local, which was buzzing on a Saturday night. The food was expensive and to be frank very very mediocre. Needs a new chef. A huge pity as it’s a much loved pub. The staff are great, as is the landlord. The food is letting it down. Please, please do something about it.

This is the 2nd time we have joined our lunch group at this pub. This time we had a really disappointing 3 course lunch, paying £17 each. We had booked and pre-ordered our lunch many weeks ago, but unfortunately there was also a wake held in the other bar, so the pub was full to bursting. The waitresses had a job on their hands serving the meals and having to push through the crowded bar area. The pate starter was very bland, with only one small piece of toast. Most main courses arrived cold, and the chicken dish my husband & I had chosen was a very small serving. My chocolate brownie was very nice, but where was the salted caramel ice cream? Not sure we'll be visiting again.
