Unfortunately this place is definitely not what it used to be. We used to travel here from Leicester for the excellent food, wonderful hospitality and perfect ambiance…. Today we met up with family and friends for lunch without realising that the pub had changed hands… and unfortunately it’s now more like a green king menu than excellent pub food. The food was mediocre, the lunch menu is dire, unless you want fish & chips or a burger, and the deserts seem to be thrown together without much care (the rhubarb tasted like it was tinned not poached, and was so sour!). The waiting staff were okay, the “vibe” for want of a better work, was more like Wetherspoons with sport on in the background and lads watching football in the restaurant area. Very disappointed with the food and the service wasn’t anything to shout about, we definitely won’t return again, Such a shame as it was such a wonderful place before.

We’ve been coming to the Kings Head for years and were excited for a Sunday dinner. It used to be one of the only places in Northamptonshire serving high quality food with excellent customer service. What a disappointment- new owners have taken over and food is now very unpleasant, both presentation and taste. Although we didn’t get charged after complaining, we won’t be returning. What a shame.

The only positive thing I can say is that the food was adequate. There was an indistinguisable smell in the room that wasn't exactly pleasant. The standard of cleanliness was okay but found quite a few things that they could have improved on. It's a lovely location but there are plenty of other B&Bs to choose from for an undoubtedly better experience. I'd rate it a generous 2 out of 5.

The pub interior is gorgeous however staff looked like they wanted to be anywhere but work. Ordered pizza and arancini, pizza looked like it was from Morrisons frozen section, despite saying ‘homemade’ on the menu. However the arancini was passable. We weren’t asked once if our food was okay and had to go to the bar to ask for condiments. Sticky toffee pudding for dessert and was offered a knife and fork to eat it with… however tasted good.

Very quiet! Limited menu. No beer on hand pumps! Pea risotto was mediocre, ciabatta, pork dish and ham egg & chips okay. Chips actually were good. Sticky toffee pudding was cold!? Nobody came back to our table to enquire if everything was okay. So, we decided not to have hot drinks at end of meal. We have been here many times and never had this experience. Unfortunately it has lost its appeal. Hope the new management can turn this around.

Having purchased several takeaways during lockdown that were incredible, my wife and thought we'd return to the Kings Head for her birthday and our 12 wedding anniversary meal. Although the menu was limited there were a few options that looked good, but the choice for vegetarians is limited. I chose the crispy pork belly to start and my wife the whipped goats cheese. The belly pork was small thin (1 cm by 10 cm) strip that was tough and not crispy at all and a little bland. It was more like an canapé than a starter. My wife's goats cheese was simple but nice. Her white wine arrived and was warm which showed inexperience in the bar/waiting staff. The main courses came out a few minutes after the starters were cleared away, so it all felt rushed. My wife chose the pea risotto which was very over cooked, soft rice and lacking texture, she was very disappointed. My venison was cooked well but the crispy celeriac was not crispy and the puree was lacking in quantity and to fondant potato was dry and not like a good fondant. Deserts were the weakest course. The lemon tart was lacking filling, the pastry was too dry and the compote was inedible. My wife's panacota was in cubes and was heavy, not light and wobbly as it should be, there was lots of unnecessary crumbs over the plate, but the milk iced cream was ok. We left in less than an hour very disappointed, £80 poorer. My advice to the management, think about your menu, cook to food to order and think about providing better value as your menu is expensive, which is ok if the food is excellent, but our meal last night was far from that level. Try and give more choice for vegetarians also, you're behind the times. Not sure we will return sadly.

We visited The King’s Head after hearing it had changed hands recently. Still a pleasant atmosphere with friendly staff and good food, albeit not quite as good as before. The only reason for 4 star not 5 is because we didn’t feel the waiting staff were as attentive as they could have been. We had to ask to place a drinks order, both times during our visit, despite sitting right next to the bar. It was a bit frustrating to sit with empty glasses whilst staff leant on the bar talking. Other than that, everyone was kind, polite and friendly. Facilities were clean and well kept.

The 1 star reflects my dissapointment in the fact that the menu, staff and quality have completely changed since we have last been here. (New management too?) This was one of my favourite restaurants with unique food beautifully presented and a bit pricey. The pricey stayed, but the food quality is now just average. And the food options are reduced to usual pub food. On top of that we have waited 80 min in a moderately busy period for a fish&chips and a sausage. The staff is nice, but you can see the chaos and inexperience hindering performance.

Really enjoyed going back to the Kings Head as it’s been a while. I read some very strange negative reviews on TP about the new management and food. Not sure the old management got it right anyway as they thought it was perfectly fine to charge £35 for a steak ….oh and then another fiver for some veg with the steak then expensive average wine plus 10% service on top! Well it’s not fine unless it’s brilliant food and a special night out which clearly too many people thought it wasn’t so give these guys a break. We loved the more “family feel” pub transformation which is NOT trying to be a high end restaurant. Hopefully it will be supported, the food is decent, staff are young and sparky and my wallet is still intact as it was good value. Some better selection of wines would be welcome but I am sure they will get better fortunately the beers are good and the staff were smiling and fun.

I recently went with a group of friends to try the menu on offer from the new landlord. The food and ambiance have always been superb at the King’s Head but the new menu caught my eye as it looked fresh and great value. The first thing I noticed when walking in was the place was busy and full of people standing around, or seated, just having a drink along with other groups eating. This beautiful old building has regained that buzz of a great village pub that also serves food rather than just a restaurant, so now feels more inclusive and is a destination whether you want to just have a drink, or go for a great meal out. The new landlord made us feel so welcome, the bar staff were great and the food was lovely, we had Steak, Burger (with a choice of four different toppings), fish and Chips, and three other main dishes as they all sounded so delicious we wanted to try the lot. We went with some extra onion rings as well. We also had starters to share between the six of us and I can say the wings were amazing. We had a great time and will be visiting far more regularly as it’s now a great pub that you can simply have a drink and a packet of crisps in, have a drink and a light snack, or go the whole hog and sit down for an amazing three course meal without breaking the bank. Highly recommended

We came to the pub to see the place under new management to see what the atmosphere was like after an off experience there last year, for a well earned sunday lunch. We had the pork belly and beef roast, and my 4 year old son had a beef burger on the kids menu. The service was wonderful, getting taken to our table by the lovely Sophie. I was recommended the violet gin by Lorraine, which was so good! It feels so much more welcoming and comfortable, being able to sit at the bar and feel more like a relaxed village pub, unlike before. We are already planning our next trip back to watch the rugby, and for more of that gin. See you again soon!

I can’t believe the changes gone on in what used to be such a wonderful place to eat. Jo, Lily and the team used to make it the experience amazing and the 10/10 food just topped it off! This has now gone down hill turning into a tacky pub with workers vaping behind the bar, very distasteful in my opinion. Under new ownership and a step back in the quality of food and service. You shouldn’t go and expect anything like the dining experience offered by the previous team. We both had the “hand battered haddock” it was a slab of previously frozen fish in a batter coating and if it was hand battered (it wouldn’t have survived the battering anyway) I would be very surprised! Very ordinary, greasy with a bowl of peas and an underwhelming tartar sauce. Not bad chips though! Not a patch on the cod loin on the menu previously. Appreciate this is early in the new ownership but they need to pick up their game.

A brasserie pitched and priced as Fine dinning. Elegant food, presented immaculately, but the restaurant was missing some fine dining details. Myself and three others dined a fortnight ago. I had steak, because for the price point this is the only reasonably priced item on the menu. £35 for a ‘pub’ main course is the top end for Northamptonshire. The food was served promptly, albeit by different servers, the waitresses were very polite and had answers to our questions. I had the Tikka masala scallops, which i found to be a curious combination, knowing scallops are a mild flavour they were i felt overpowered by tikka masala, but overall the dish was interesting to eat. The steak was perfectly cooked, but did come with a ‘parcel’ of vegetables (wrapped in a cabbage or similar leaf), that all appeared to have been fried and a sauce added, this was i felt an unusual way to serve vegetables with steak, an oriental style, as opposed to traditional chargrilled. I felt the restaurant lacked some aspects i would come to expect from similar at that level. The cutlery provided was the cheapest commercial cutlery, thin, lacking substance, the steak knives were cheap and basic, and the napkin was a basic cheap paper one, no plate chargers, no table dressing, cheap paper menus. The chair and table height was odd, with the table being low. These are below the standards this restaurant pitches itself at. Furthermore we could hear the kitchen radio from the table, and a dispute the servers had with the kitchen. I probably would not go again, for this price point, customer experience is unfortunately lacking.

Had a Sunday roast here today and the food was absolutely phenomenal. The service however, appalling, our waitress was extremely rude and impatient with us. It’s been a little while since I had seen my parents so we had a lot to catch up on, the waitress came over mid conversation and asked us if we were ready to order, we simply told her we weren’t ready to order and could we please have a little more time. The young lady then immediately took umbrage to this and proceeded to interrupt my partner and dad’s conversation to ask the same question, when they didn’t answer she rudely said “or ignore me then”. We were speechless, clearly this young lady didn’t like her job very much to speak to customers in such a rude and confrontational way. This then affected her whole attitude from that point onwards towards us, she was rude, very dismissive and when she bought the dessert menu over after eventually clearing our mains she said “you’ve got 30 minutes” before basically throwing the menus at us!!! Absolutely terrible service, in fact, I’d go as far to say it’s the WORST I have ever experienced which is a shame because it’s no reflection of the chef’s standard of food or other members of bar staff. £146 to be treated like that, absolute shambles you seriously need to think about the people you’re hiring and their attitudes.

Impeccably presented culinary masterpieces served in a pleasant restaurant with polished wooden tables and floor. It appears that the evening menu changes monthly. Ours included pigeon breast, lamb rump, ox cheeks, monkfish and steak burger. The vegetarian option was charred Romanesco. I would recommend the restaurant for a celebration - the menu and food is special. It is pricier than your average fayre, but the experience is way above average! Expect to pay £30 - £50 for two courses, £10 for a dessert. A good choice of wine by the glass or bottle. Very clean throughout, all tables backed by clear Covid-screens which were present but not imposing. Attentive table service with bell (although never had need to use it). Well stocked bar and wonderful wine. Very pleasant staff. Village is located in lovely rolling countryside not far from Holdenby (house) and Brixworth (Anglo Saxon church), easy to get to from both Northampton and the A14. Car park at rear. Last night we had the most memorable meal in a long time. On Monday we were at an event where each course was produced by a Michelin starred chef, our meal last night surpassed those four dishes. I had lobster Bisque with lobster tortellini, sublime,...

Lovely pub serving possibly the best roast pork and trimmings that I've ever had outside the home and a perfectly balanced and delicious choice of desserts. The staff are very friendly and the surrounding village is perfect for a post meal stroll. Would be five...

I would rate the food as ok nothing special and overpriced for what you get, however, the behaviour of the Manager was extremely rude. She pulled a face if you asked her for anything and argued every point. I have never been treated this way...

Just returned from a fabulous lunch at The Kings Head. The food was exquisitely presented and delicious. The puddings in particular looked like little works of art. The staff were all very friendly, helpful and attentive.

We have been to the Kings Head a few times of late, and we can honestly say it doesn't disappoint. Today we celebrated our 20th wedding anniversary there. The food is outstanding and beautifully presented, and surprisingly filling. Desserts are to die for, gooey chocolate...

We had dinner here in Spratton on Friday 15th July. Service was good and friendly. We really enjoyed the food but felt it was expensive compared to similar places in Northamptonshire. For that reason we won’t be going back too often.

Absolutely amazing. The food is great here. Not the cheapest but very high quality. So tasty and worth the money. One of the nicest restaurants in the area. It has atmosphere and the staff are really friendly. Overall the food is superb and I recommend, we will definitely visit again

Very Good Food at reasonable price. Ample servings. Try the Pies wit Gravy. Very delicious I will definitely be back again in the future.

An empty pub has little atmosphere. The meal was disappointing. My wife's fish was tasteless and dry. The batter was good though. The garden peas were overcooked. Chips were delicious but far too many. Not a great celebration of our 54th wedding anniversary!

Great pub and super friendly staff. 5 old mates(and CAMRA members) on a narrow boat trip last here 5 years ago. what a change! We had a lively evening with some hilarious banter with barperson/waitress Sianne. Steak and red wine meal deals good value and a pleasure to find a pub that didnt serve the dreaded Doombar. In Siannes words 'no self respecting pub should have Doombar'. Thoroughly recommended

Sadly this was a big disappointment, the restaurant reminded me of an elderly home with so many older folk, the food at best was average, also items such as Tarter sauce which you would expect to be part of the fish and chips meal is an extra, really? Also the desserts are really pricey, not somewhere I would recommend
