Food great. Receptionist welcoming. Server Jodie - really poor. Was tempted to not pay the service charge - first time we would have done this. More detail - not very welcoming, seemed like she didn’t enjoy her job. Was declined deserts and waited an age for our bill - had to chase it. Shame as could have easily been a 5 star review based on the food.

We had a wonderful experience from start to finish. Upon arrival, we were warmly welcomed at reception and shown to a beautifully presented, spotless room with a fantastic atmosphere. Our server, Izzy, was outstanding—attentive, professional, and full of personality. She had excellent knowledge of the menu, and her recommendation of the chocolate bomb was a real hit. We’ll definitely be returning for our next special family occasion.

It is a very nice restaurant with amazing service. Me and my partner came here for her birthday, and we opted for the three course meal picking the peanut skewers as a starter and a chicken supreme for mains. Both were amazing, and we will definitely be coming back. The service was also very fast, and with our simple reservation, we were taken to our table instantly. As we are both younger, the alcoholic drinks were not particularly for our palet, but the pineapple juice and peach ice tea were more like it. Decor was also so immersing, as seen by other photos.

Lovely room. Great service. Adequate food. The breakfast/brunch is absolutely ok. It's a nice comfortable and very civilised place to sit. Service was attentive and thoughtful. We were a group of five for brunch. We ate the standard breakfasts, one veggy, four meaty. Smoothies were good. Pastries were good. Main plates were adequate - just. By that I mean much the same quality as a low/mid range hotel or Wetherspoons. Edible but lowish average. Expensive for what it is. Short version: if all you care about is what is on the main breakfast plate (quality, variety and quantity) you're likely better off at Spoons.

A group of 6 were booked in for tea on a Sunday at 1500. Not too busy and the staff were, as always, attentive and skilled. The tea was served on 3 level cake stands. We all enjoyed the ambience, but every one of us would have preferred the savoury foods to outweigh the sweet. The sweets were very sweet, and difficult to finish. Some more finger sandwiches or mini savoury tarts would be ideal. Scones were very good, but again, one would suffice.

Visited The Ivy on Saturday evening for a belated birthday dinner. Our table was taken care by Poppy for the evening. She could’nt have been more friendly, warm and professional. She took great care of us, attending to anything we needed for our meal. Her customer service and attention to detail was outstanding. The atmosphere of the restaurant is simply incredible. From the music, to the table layout, the low lighting & simply beautiful food along with impeccable service makes this place such a perfect venue to dine at. Poppy also paid close attention to what brought us in for the meal and made special arrangements to celebrate with us to honour our visit. We will be back again for another visit. Thank you! ☺️

A truly charming restaurant where every detail is thoughtfully curated, from the elegant decor to the cozy ambiance that invites you to linger a little longer. The staff provides impeccable service with genuine warmth, ensuring that every moment feels special and cared for. Whether you're here for a casual meal or a celebratory occasion, the seamless blend of atmosphere and attentive hospitality makes dining here a truly delightful experience. A perfect place to unwind, indulge, and create memorable moments. For answer the response that: Hi! Thank you for reaching out. The 2-star rating was mainly based on the overall experience. I didn’t mention the food taste because, personally, I only highlight it when it stands out. For me and my friends, the flavor didn’t quite meet our expectations, especially compared to other places in a similar price range. But of course, taste is subjective — what’s not for me might be perfect for someone else. Wishing you all the best and hope others continue to enjoy your food!

Firstly I would like to give a very special mention to Izzy our waitress, who gave absolutely perfect service to myself and my mum tonight. We fell in love with the Strawberry Martini. The steak was cooked to perfection, the scallops were to die for and the creamy mash was very fluffy and again, perfection. This is my 2nd visit to the Ivy (first in Bath) and I continue to be impressed by the overall experience. The restaurant decor and bathroom was added to the amazing experience of the Ivy. This was well worth over £200 for 2 people. I highly recommend the Ivy to anyone as it was a meal to remember. Thank you to all staff.

A visit to The Ivy in Exeter was a delightful experience. I opted for the classic Shepherd's Pie, which, though small in size, was rich in flavour with perfectly seasoned meat and a creamy mashed potato topping. To finish, I couldn't resist the famous Ivy Chocolate Bomb - watching it melt as hot chocolate was poured over to reveal a gooey centre was a real treat. I’d have to agree with Hayley below somewhat! Really really good food! Came here yesterday evening and loved it! Me & my mate had the Derby Rib burger…. It was as described… 2 smashed patties in a brioche bun with a generous helping of beef shin and some beautiful hand cut chips!! Was advised on the 30 min wait so didn’t mind at all. The young lad serving us at the bar was polite, friendly and professional. Really good atmosphere too! Very busy but felt cosy! Great selection of drinks, haha pint of Lukas from Thornbridge and it was delightful! Can’t wait to come back with her indoors and try some more food! Slightly on the expensive side but you pay for what you get imo and on this occasion it was a worthwhile visit! See you very soon guys!

I was disappointed. I booked a brunch for 3 yesterday for a Mother’s Day treat. Here’s why I was disappointed - probably because my expectations of The Ivy were a lot higher. 1. I asked if there was a vegan menu Which there wasn’t. There was one thing that my vegan sister could eat so she had no choices or options. It was avocado on toast with tomato and we had to ask them not to put butter on the toast. When it arrived, the avocado hadn’t even reached the end of the toast. It wasn’t great. 2. My mum ordered a flat white coffee and was given a latte. She was surprised when it arrived as flat whites don’t usually come in a long glass mug. It was only when we ordered another round of coffees that she got an actual flat white in the proper cup. 3. I was also disappointed about not receiving a glass of complementary sparkling wine. Apparently I didn’t use the right link when I booked so it didn’t count. 4. The waiter we had must of been new as he was unable to answer our questions and always had to go and ask someone else. I understand and was kind and gracious to him but he clearly hadn’t received his full training. 5. We found the staff to all be very tense and stressed - it did feel that way which was a shame.

But everytime the food has been excellent, we don't mind a wait as we know the food is being cooked from fresh, it arrives at the table red hot and is always tasty and chips are to die for! The atmosphere in there is great and the staff have ALWAYS got a smile on their faces and are always pleasant. If you want decent food, for a reasonable price with some a good pint this is the place to go, but book ahead, they are always busy! Thank you for always being our go to! The attention to detail in interior design is still outstanding and it's one of the most beautifully decorated restaurants I've been in. Staff were friendly and competent, and looked very smart in their uniforms. The food this time was not as good as on previous visits. Sirloin steak was overdone, and way overpriced considering it comes with no accompaniments. The jackfruit bang bang salad starter and the double cooked cheese soufflé however were excellent, and the fish and chips were a good size portion, decently cooked.

I had the most incredible dining experience at The IVY, and I couldn’t wait to share it! From the moment we walked in, we were greeted by the warmest smile from Tabby, who made us feel so welcome. She was incredibly friendly and attentive throughout our entire meal, offering great suggestions and checking in to ensure everything was perfect. Her hospitality really elevated the whole experience. Now, let’s talk about the food! The Ribeye steak was cooked to absolute perfection—tender, juicy, and packed with flavor. Every bite was a delight. The Shepherd’s Pie was also a standout, with a hearty, comforting filling and a perfectly golden, crispy topping. It was the kind of dish that makes you feel right at home. For dessert, the Tiramisu was out of this world. It had the perfect balance of creaminess and coffee flavor—every spoonful was heavenly. And the showstopper? Watching the Apple Tart being served tableside was absolutely spectacular. The way it was presented with such precision and flair made the dessert even more special. It was a delightful end to an unforgettable meal. Overall, I couldn’t have asked for a better experience, and Tabby’s wonderful service truly made the evening shine. I’ll definitely be back soon!

Luckily I won’t my afternoon tea for 2 as I wouldn’t have paid for it. Despite putting it on the booking and also a phone call plus telling the waitress, we still ended up with salmon on one plate. We have reaction to salmon!! The chicken brioche was below par, a few thin strips of breaded chicken escalope covered in garlic mayo and 2 obviously shop bought muffins topped it of. It was pleasant but not what I thought it would be bearing in mind the reputation. Plus side, hot chocolate was nice.

A group of four of us visited The Ivy Exeter for afternoon tea on Saturday to celebrate both my friend’s and my 40th birthdays, and unfortunately, we left feeling quite disappointed. Upon arrival, there was no one at the front desk, so we waited in the foyer. When the hostess eventually arrived, her demeanour was far from welcoming—she seemed disinterested, with no smile or warmth, making us feel as though we were an inconvenience. We were then seated at an incredibly cramped table—too small for two people, let alone four—and squeezed in amongst other tables that were uncomfortably close. The waiting staff bumped into my chair several times while serving the neighbouring tables, which was quite frustrating. On a positive note, the waiter who served us was friendly and tried to accommodate my request for a cold drink instead of a hot one. Unfortunately, I was told this wasn’t possible, and the only option offered was iced coffee—something I couldn’t have due to health reasons. In the end, I had to settle for tea, though the waiter was kind enough to arrange for water to be brought to the table as well. As for the afternoon tea itself, it was underwhelming, especially considering the price of £33.50 per person. It’s not the cheapest afternoon tea out there, and the quality certainly didn’t justify the cost. The food consisted of three tiny finger sandwiches, two small fruit scones with very little jam and cream to accompany them, one bite-sized piece of pistachio Battenberg, a bite-sized chocolate dessert, and a regular-sized lemon and poppyseed cupcake. Sadly, the bread of the sandwiches had gone hard and stale, the Battenberg lacked flavour beyond sweetness, the scones were dry, and the sponge of the cupcake was hard and flavourless. It was disheartening to pay almost £70 per couple for such a disappointing spread. After finishing our meal, we waited quite a while before anyone came over to check on us, and eventually, my husband had to flag down a waiter to request the bill. When the bill arrived, a 12.5% service charge had been automatically added, which we chose not to pay in full. While I did feel guilty about this, we felt the overall experience didn’t warrant the full tip, although we did leave a partial one. In summary, it felt as though The Ivy prioritises style over substance—there’s a clear focus on décor and presentation, but sadly little attention to the quality of the food. Had any staff inquired about our food or experience, we would have been honest about the issues, but no one asked at any point during our visit. Having seen similar reviews, I sincerely hope this feedback is taken as an opportunity to improve.

Had a very disappointing experience at The Ivy Exeter for a Valentine’s dinner. We waited an unreasonable amount of time (around 50 mins) for our main courses to arrive after our starters. Understandably, it was busy as it was Valentines weekend and our waiter was very apologetic as he had made a mistake causing this delay. However when we raised the issue with the manager, she was very condescending and dismissive, insisting the delay was actually "on track"—despite us watching every surrounding table receive their mains, dessert and leaving by the time we got served our mains. Ultimately, our Valentines dinner was ruined by this level of service by the management. I expected much better from The Ivy for the price we paid and the level of standard they hold themselves up to.

When the food arrived 90 minutes later ( with no apology or update on the lateness) it was wrong to what I ordered. The staff checked and the person who took my order put it through wrong. Even though staff offered to correct it, i couldn’t suffer another wait to accepted what was served. Have to say the food was good but unfortunately tainted by the wait and error in processing what i wanted. Its the 3rd time i have been here. The best service I have experienced, FANTASTIC. The food, however, was not that great. My son's bone-in rib eye was cooked perfectly, but mine was heavily overcooked. To give the staff credit, without any questions the steak was removed, cooked over, as well as all the a-la-carte side dishes. But the steak lacked flavor, it could have used seasoning. I stopped myself from asking for steak sauce, not to disrespect the chef. Wouldn't give this another try, unless just for desert. Creme Brule and Apple Tarte were fantastic.

A first-ever visit to the famed Ivy restaurant. We'd been recommended to try their breakfast over later meal options, so this is what we chose to do. Overall a very pleasant experience. We both opted for their special festive breakfast which consisted of a choice of one of two healthy juice options, a small cooked breakfast and two different small pastries - at a set price of £17.95 each. Different breakfast options are available. Possibly slightly overpriced at £17.95, but worth it for the exclusive service and surroundings I'd suggest. Be aware also that a discretionary 12.5% service charge is included in your bill, and that a bottled water will set you back £5.

Have been to this Ivy several times before so Thought we’d treat a friend on her 60th birthday to breakfast. Somewhat disappointed!!! The waitress was very abrupt, the food not very warm, the scrambled egg overcooked, the service slow……. It won’t be high on my list to go in future!! A shame- I’ve always raved about it before!

Excellent food in a nicely decorated restaurant. Cost was expensive. £100 for a lunch is a lot!

A really lovely special place that feels perfect for a celebratory occasion. The lobster linguine was delicious! And the decor was outstanding, such a visual delight. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Looking forward to coming back some day soon!

We prebooked. We got told we would be sat on separate tables but at least expected these to be close to one another! The afternoon tea was not great (small portions and stale/not fresh) and it was not all served at once, half an hour apart! They overcharged us (bride paid for her own drinks but they charged the party twice for these). They also told us we had underpaid but meant they had not received their full discretionary service charge. Really quite poor, expected so much more.

We were sadly very disappointed with our visit for breakfast. The avocado on the avo toast was sludgy dark green, clearly quite old, and the full English was served mostly cold. I ate one bite of the avo toast and left the rest and the waitress did not even ask why when she collected the plate - perhaps she is used to seeing full plates of food returned? Or just poorly trained. The coffee was delicious however (although pricey at £4.25 for a black americano). We won’t be back.

Looks good and the food is fine, the trouble is the bar seems much too slow at producing drinks for the tables. I asked for a bottle of cider to go with my salmon starter. It took around twelve minutes arriving long after the salmon. My waitress tried hard but couldn't influence the way the kitchen and bar worked at different speeds. My glass of red wine arrived a minute or two after my main which was an improvement.

I met family from the midlands and Huddersfield, we chose this venue as it was central to us all, the reviews were good so we went with it. We were not disappointed we were made welcome and shown to our table, we had already pre ordered our food and payed a deposit as we were a party of 12. The food didn’t disappoint either, all the food was fantastic, I had the kebabs my Husband had the steak and fish. Delicious we didn’t have room for pudding. A great array of beers, ciders, wines and spirits.Definitely worth a visit.

This place serves excellent food and is rightly praised for this. However.. Only wanted a snack so had a chip butty, wish I had had a bag of crisps. Not a butty, a baguette with no butter, or just a scrape at best. Baguette was dry and inedible, reheated to appear fresh. Chips were refried from cold. Presentation was non existent. Yes it was only a chip butties but it was a fiver and every meal sent out, however small reflects on the chef. Scored 2 because the beer was good

Had to wait 30 mins, but I managed to get a solo table as a walk in (no reservation) on a Monday evening. Food as always at The Ivy was delicious and also reasonably priced. I had a main, a side and a glass of wine for under £35.

steak sirloin was fatty with a lot of gristle and asked for medium well, the steak was rare. when waiter was informed the manager only gave complementary tea or coffee which i think is ridiculous seeing as the steak cost well over triple the price of a coffee

i asked for a well done steak and i dont know if it was miscommunication or what but i got a steak that look more medium rare, ordered a sirloin which was full of gristle and fat hard to chew that i had to spit bits out, waiter was informed of our bad experience and manager only gave us a complimentary coffee which to me doesnt feel justified for the price i payed for my meal i physically could not finish. atmosphere was good and service was okay but overall feel like a wasted night for my anniversary

We went for brunch on our daughter's 18th birthday. First time we've been for brunch and the atmosphere was great. Busy but not manic. The menu was very reasonably priced and a good selection. The service was great, attentive but not intrusive. We hadn't booked it letting them know it was our daughter's birthday but they soon cottoned on. The manager said he wouldn't allow us to pay for our daughter's food given it was such a milestone for her. A lovely gesture that made the meal even more special.

Well what a sad review to write. The team have been pulled apart under the closure terms, many of which have been made redundant from a career they have worked in for decades. Until the news it has always been great food and great service. Understandable that they slipped a bit given the circumstances. Thank you all for your years of service to us all. All the best for the whole team for the future. Derby will miss The Mallard!

Had a very pleasant time with family who all live a distance from each other. We thoroughly enjoyed our time together and were made very welcome by the two staff members who looked after us, didn't get their names unfortunately. We chose a variety of meal options from the menu and everyone enjoyed what they ordered. We will make it our meeting place next time. Thank you.

Absolutely incredible meal. I had a butter chicken with medium spice which was extremely tasty and my other half had a hot chicken tikka masala and he said it was the best curry he’s ever had. Service was also excellent and our food came out quickly. We will definitely be coming here again!
