Ferrers Arms in Derby

Had a very pleasant time with family who all live a distance from each other. We thoroughly enjoyed our time together and were made very welcome by the two staff members who looked after us, didn't get their names unfortunately. We chose a variety of meal options from the menu and everyone enjoyed what they ordered. We will make it our meeting place next time. Thank you.

Quick service, friendly staff and tasty food at a reasonable price

We came to eat. Entered the bar, quick drinks service, ordered food and sat at a table. The food arrived hot and within 20 minutes. It was very well cooked and tasted fantastic. Portion size was very good, as was the device. Nothing at all to complain about. The pub was clean and the atmosphere was homely.

A Disappointing Dining Experience I had high hopes for my visit, having requested a quiet table for two with a nice view. Unfortunately, my expectations were quickly dashed upon arrival. We were initially seated in a weary-looking conservatory style area, where the loud rumbling of a lorry engine and the grimy windows created anything but a relaxing atmosphere. After requesting a different table, we were relocated, only to find the wall beside us splattered with food residue—a truly nauseating sight. The outdoor area wasn’t much better, with a tree taped off like a crime scene, adding to the overall sense of neglect. The toilets, too, were poorly painted and unappealing, making a simple trip to freshen up an unfortunate experience. Despite there being hardly any other customers, the food took ages to arrive. Fortunately, when it did finally come, it was quite nice. However, the drinks were shockingly overpriced. The waiting staff were pleasant, though they struggled with splitting the bill correctly, which added unnecessary confusion to the end of the meal. Overall, while the food itself was enjoyable, the poor surroundings, slow service, and overpriced drinks made for a disappointing visit. I wouldn’t be rushing back anytime soon.

I was seated and served by Adele, she was warm and welcoming and made me feel right at home, I ate the cheese and bacon burger and had absolutely no complaints, I would definitely recommend and will be coming back

I recently had the chance to visit The Ferrers Arms in Ashby, and it was lovely. From the moment I entered, the atmosphere was warm and welcoming, and the staff were friendly and attentive. One of the highlights of the evening was definitely the limoncello cocktails. These drinks were expertly made, with a perfect balance of tartness and sweetness. A nice roadside pub with beer garden which welcomes dogs. Cheaper drinks on offer if you order on line rather than at the bar.

Excellent food quality and service from the staff! We had the best pub pie ever, and it was outstanding!!

As a couple we visited twice in a week for lunch. First time we used the 30% off voucher. Menu had good choices and food was fine. 2nd time it resembled a creche. Staff seemed disinterested, with one holding a baby whilst trying to use the till - we left and ate elsewhere. I think you have to take your chances at lunchtime. Visited again April '25 as a threesome Waiter took order (no writing down) then asked me again to repeat my order. Starters were fine (Pate and cauliflower wings). Daughter received wrong mains (scampi i/o fish&chips). Apology and was taken away. F&C appeared 5-10 mins later. Fish looked underdone/rushed ? and with pink tinge). Sent it away. Was taken off bill. All because ordercwas not noted down I would suggest

It was a lunchtime meal which was very nice, had hunters chicken but would have preferred proper chips and more of them, did not feel it was value for money.

We found this little pub by accident, so happy we did.. Although the menu looks ordinary on the website, in reality the food quality and presentation is a cut above expectations. Very good indeed, to the point I would say it was under priced. Staff very polite and attentive enough, and surroundings comfortable. We intend to return.

We had a lovely evening here. The whole experience from start to finish was impressive. The service was attentive and friendly, the food was great and the atmosphere was very relaxed.

First visit to this pub,I live on Barton marina, well worth drive,great pub,great location, superb staff Charlotte and Adele, can't fault this place and the food was absolutely top notch,mixed grill was best I've ever had,steak was good enough on its own,superb chef,will definitely be back,thanks for a great afternoon, cheers, dave

Charging fine dining prices for school dinners. Absolutely appalled at the portion sizes. Left hungry after paying £20 a meal. Plenty of complaints made about the portion sizes but obviously to stuck in thier own ways to rectify the problems. Definitely avoid if you would like to leave feeling full and content after a "premium priced service" One person serving on the bar while management are strolling around doing nothing. Will not return again, such a shame.

The pub looked welcoming from the outside with a good location and large car park. We had booked and expected it to be busy as there is a two hours limit on the three booking of a table but when we entered the place was almost empty. We waited at the bar area for around ten minutes for someone to show us to the table. We were seated and given menus. We were informed of what was not available and left to peruse the menu. A long while after we were asked if we wanted any drinks which came fairly quickly but one of them was wrong. We then placed our food order but what came out was very poor. The of us had sirloin at £21.50 each which the steak was cooked okay and being flame grilled was tasty and two cooked well mine was over cooked but still nice. The steak was served with one tomato cut in half and around 12 chips with each meal. My wife had the beetroot burger which came as a burger and a very small bowl of French ies. The fried were cold and hardly any of them. It also came with a little pot of dressing/sauce which had been sat under the lamps and had a skin on it. After the meals the table was cleared with no one asking if everything was okay.we were going to order another round of drinks and dessert but after twenty minutes of waiting I went to the bar and asked for the bill. The young man asked if everything was okay to which I said no not really and explained all of the above. I just got okay sorry I will feed that back. We spent £139. Very poor and won't be visiting again.

We went to the Ferrers Arms to celebrate a member of staff retiring and we had a lovely meal.

Booked for a table at 7.30pm 29th March 2025. Arrived ten minutes early, ordered a drink, and was presented with the menu. All OK so far Then..... We chose a starter and a main - then told there wasn't any Chose a different one That was not available either So ok, made a 3rd choice..... guess what? That was all gone too! We took our leave and then went somewhere else. Which fool didn't order enough for the mothers day weekend? Anyhow, I can report that 'New Swad Indian' was fantastic

Nice pub and OK garden. Play equipment for smaller children would be good. Let down by the toilets (ladies anyway). Clean bug tatty.

We use to like the Ferrers Arms, being a Marston Pub. We visited tonight we had 30% off via email, I ordered steak, it came with a plateful of chips a tomato cut in half and a sirloin steak, that was it. No mushrooms, no peas, no onion rings no salad. For £20.50, ok I know some would be side orders but not even any peas???or not even any Carling... I wondered why the place was half empty. Even with 30% off it was a bit over the top. Come on Marstons nice pub.. but we will not be going again....

Had lunch today. Food and service was excellent. Lovely friendly staff.sirloin steak was very tender and well cooked.

Fantastic meal again tonight at the Ferrers arms we have lived across the road for 8 years and would never eat here as food was terrible but since the new manager and new chef I have to say the food is amazing well done Fay Emma and Beth and the lovely team in the kitchen keep up the good work we will see you soon. Tiny portion of food, green beans in my garden peas on scampi. Adult portion charging £15 for what would be classed as a childs size. No tartrate source failed to notify until after bringing food out. Steak dry... tiny portion again for £20. Staff rude and volatile certainly will NOT be returning. Went years ago seemed better run, maybe new management as the lady staff in charge was extremely unprofessional and aggressive. Refused to apply voucher code, saying I had a table bigger than 8. There were 4 of us, but because my nephew and other family members sat on table close by they refused, even though separate arrival time and separate bill. I would strongly avoid. Wonder if this review will win me a £250 gift voucher for love2shop 😂 (To add to your comment. My booking was a table of 4. So how is my booking a table of 24?) This should have been delt with in the correct manner last night. It should not take a review for you to talk to me like a human being...now wanting to resolve the issue. So no thank you I don't need any more poor assistance from you. My review is negative and it will remain this way.

Our first visit as a family with our dog. You've got a choice to either sit inside or outside with your dog 🐶. We had a really lovely time, the meal was excellent with great quality and excellent choices for a reasonable price. Very good inside and lots of tables outside. We will definitely be going again as the service is very good.

We visited today for my father in laws birthday. The food was amazing and the staff were lovely and attentive. The pub itself is clean, very friendly and beautiful inside and out. I am gluten free and the NGCI menu was outstanding! Really impressed and we will definitely be returning! The park outside is perfect for children and it's nice to see that it's fenced off and safe for them to play. The staff made it extra special for my father in law with a cake and board that said happy birthday - perfect touch!

The staff were very friendly and helpful. I have an intolerance to too much salt, the server knew the menu, he was able to advise me on what best to have. He was very professional as well as understanding about it. The food was of a good quality and we really enjoyed what we ordered. The atmosphere was very calm, it wasn’t crowded too busy, or noisy, great if you are autistic and require a calmer environment.

9/10 from us. Highly recommended. Food was fantastic, service was excellent. We have put 4* for atmosphere because we find the music is played a notch (so not much) too loud for us. Otherwise, it is 10/10.

We booked this a family outing and were looking forward to the new menu. Whilst the menu itself was good the items seemed over priced for the amount of food served. In particular my mum had steak without the tomato (she has a garlic intolerance) but no other veg was offered so literally the steak and a handful of chips was served - for around £21! Surely some salad/peas could have been served with it. My son had the garlic bread starter from the children's menu. He couldn't eat it as it was so over-toasted it was like a crouton. Then the 'ice cream sundae' was a joke - 2 balls of ice cream in a bowl with chocolate sauce & wafer. He ate it happily but, come on, describe it just as ice cream not a sundae when that's how it's served. The atmosphere, cleanliness & service were all very good.

Love their dog friendly corner and the decor however, Went for food at about 530pm on a weekday. It wasn't very busy at all. Ended up waiting 45 minutes for a meal and a further 30 minutes for dessert. Very slow service on this occasion. The prices seem to have gone up also. Used to be a 2 for 1 type of place but now it's £14-18 for a main.

The Roast Beef Sirloin was served exactly how it should be, slightly pink. The Roast Loin of Pork was also cooked to perfection. It's one of the best Sunday dinners that we've eaten out, for years! The chef is obviously a very good one. Hang on him/her!

Food took a long time to come - so long we were into more drinks while waiting. Another party of similar size who arrived some time after we had also got their food considerably before we did. Also disappointed with the revised menu, particularly for vegetarians. No real replacement for the cheese and leek pie you used to do . Unlikely to visit as a family again as we have two vegetarians.

I had the beef and I would challenge anyone to have sliced it into anything you Could actually chew? It was relaxed with turkey which wasn’t my first choice but edible. Swerve this place because the food is terrible.

Visited on Sunday for Sunday lunch. We were greeted warmly by Katie who sat us in a cosy area near the fire. We chose a couple of roast dinners - portion sizes were amazing and both the meat and vegetables were cooked to perfection. We were looked after by Leo during a really busy time and Emily brought out our food with a lovely smile! Food was truly amazing, great atmosphere and friendly staff - nothing is too much trouble. Highly recommended. 🤩

Had a really lovely evening at the Ferrers last night . The service by Leo, Katie and Adele was excellent. The food was great, all fresh, piping hot and beautifully presented. We were meeting old friends so had lots to catch up on and Leo kept the drinks coming and we didn’t feel rushed at all. A really pleasant relaxing evening. Would highly recommend.

We were very impressed with the service, food and atmosphere of this lovely place.

On Monday the 13th myself and my friend had the sea bass which was absolutely delicious, my only complaint was it was slightly on the small size and only one veg, I think two veg would be better. We are dining with you again on Monday 20th January, as I now have a 30% discount, very acceptable.

Lovely friendly service, just the right level of attention. The roast dinners were very good - a lot of beef, the vegan tartlet was delicious and both were served with a good selection of nicely cooked vegetables. Very generous portions too.

Went for a family meal to this pub. Complete waste of money and will not be returning. Three of us had the sea bass; this was undercooked and the whole plate was drowned in butter so neither of us was able to finish even half of the food. The service wasn’t great either - the waiter took the wrong order and one of us had to wait more than 10 minutes for their food after everyone else’s arrived as a result of the waiter’s error. This place may be ok for drinks, but would not recommend it for food.

Food was excellent. Perfectly cooked and well presented. Very friendly service and made to feel very welcome. Atmosphere was very flat but only due to it being the lull between Xmas and New year.

We were quite disappointed to be honest.. The wait between courses was too long & the main meal was luke warm.. All the other times we've been, the food & service has been spot on.. Being Christmas day, it should've been better than it was, especially when paying that kind of money..

We went to Ferrers Arms for lunch with friends (it was about halfway between our two houses. We had not been before and it was ideally positioned). It was warm and inviting, well decorated for Christmas. The food was excellent and there was a wide selection of drinks. We intend to come again when we next meet up.

Only popped in for drinks which are expensive anyway bar staff say read card reader I just looked at amount and paid not realising on there is leave a tip or not so if you don't tap leave a tip or not you tip 20% wow £25 round ended up over £30 bar staff need to make this clear

Beware... if you are looking for a Christmas meal, you need to book your meal in advance. My friend asked to see the specials menu, we were told no specials available. My friend asked if a Christmas meal was available as there was nothing on the normal menu, we were told that has to booked in advance.... this is an all day eatery with lots of walks in... its the 7th December & there is no Christmas meal option available unless its booked in advance.... absolutely ridiculous.

Excellent meal for our works Christmas Do. Never easy feeding 25 people all together, but all food was hot, tasty and there was plenty of it. Staff were great and nothing was too much trouble. Loretta, Adele, Leo, Leah and the guys in the back, thank you for a fantastic afternoon

Facilities were excellent. Food-good portions and hot. Having pre-ordered meant little wait or disruption. 15 people and three dogs in the dog snug was brilliant. As always service was brilliant but this time you excelled. For an 80th birthday lunch with family from West Yorkshire, North Derbyshire, Worcester, Tamworth and Bristol you did us proud. All we can say is thanks and keep up the great work.

We were a fairly large group of 7 fussy elderly folk. But we were made very welcome and all really enjoyed a couple of hours eating, drinking and chatting.

Went for a birthday lunch on Saturday 13/04/24. We were given a warm welcome by Fay, and then were very well looked after by Emma. Food was excellent, and we couldn’t fault anything about our visit.

Went to The Ferrers today for lunch with my husband and Mother in Law. Lovely chilled atmosphere as always and we were made to feel welcome by Katie who explained how to order off the app. Food was excellent and portion size was spot on! Compliments to the chef! We were served by Katie, Adele and Leo who were all very attentive and provided an excellent service. Thank you everyone 😊

I love eating here when I come to our head office and have taken all of my colleagues with me on separate occasions. The atmosphere is lovely and friendly and the food is very tasty. It is served quickly and is piping hot (hate lukewarm food). I keep trying new things on the menu and haven't been disappointed yet. The servers are friendly and can't do enough for you. It is my go to place to eat when I am visiting on business.
