The Marquis Wellington in Leicester

Busy pub, even on a Monday! Came here for dinner on my own whilst away with work. Blue moon was £6.60 a pint which is a lot. I thought being in Leicester the price may be a bit cheaper, but not in this place. But it was a very good pint in a chilled glass with the traditional slice of orange. Unfortunately even though the atmosphere was good, the meal was really disappointing. Ordered the pulled pork burger as it sounded great. Unfortunately it was far from. It didn't come with any jalepenos or peppers although advertised, the pork burger was barely cooked and the chips were soggy and not crispy, which is a shame as they could have been really tasty. Couldn't easily complain as I was on my own I couldn't leave the table, and no one came over to check on my meal. You pay in advance so I also couldn't ask for some money off. Would recommend this pub for a drink on a night out, but not for food.

I booked a family lunch based on a recommendation and it did not disappoint. It well exceeded expectations. The choice of roast dinners was great and they tasted delicious. Deserts were amazing and the bread and butter pudding transported me back to my childhood - a fond favourite. It’s a great ambiance and the lady serving us made us feel right at home and engaged in banter and fun as she served us. Well worth a visit!

Cosy pub. Great food, great service. Perfect for an early meal before a night with Ben Elton at the De Montfort hall. Would definitely recommend.

Great stop off on the way to the football, food is always fantastic and the drinks selection is always vast.

We had a very warm welcome and was well looked after by Caroline. There was a good selection of beers which we were able to sample some of before deciding on which one to have. The menu had a good selection catering for all tastes. The food we had was excellent. All in all a good meal made all the better by the friendly staff who looked after us.

This place has a lovely menu, and ideal for a pre-show meal and drinks. Book a table if you want to eat as it can get quite busy on show nights. A lovely pub which I would highly recommend. There is also a lovely outside area.

Really impressed and highly recommend for great beer and food. We booked a table for 6 on a Saturday night. We all had different dishes and all were great. Gluten free options and gluten free chips as well, always a winner! Liver and bacon especially delicious. Staff knowledge and helpful. Lovely buzzy atmosphere. Well worth a visit if in the area or visiting DeMontfort Hall or 02 Academy.

One of the oldest and well liked of the city centre pubs. Visited by those attending the city's sporting teams and De Montfort Hall, as well as thirsty academics at the nearby Univeristy of Leicester, it is a spacious pub both inside and out. Having been coming here for 20 years there is always a friendly and well trained set of staff here as many generations of ownership have taken place. The current group are particularly good. The food here has improved very much in recent years and Sunday lunches especially are worth the visit. We had different meats and the vegan option and the elements were well appointed. The desserts also normal and vegan had exactly what one would expect in quality food. This pub very much has a finger on the oulse of a lot of beers and decent wines. The outside area is big and good in summer with small huts for groups. This pub is good for couples as well as small groups and comes well recommended.

Cashless…. Keep well clear. Seem to be happy excluding potential customers. I now walk straight past.

Great wine selection including the delicious new Rose. I had the falafel and spinach burger from the specials board. Excellent customer service as well, will be back soon! Highly recommend this place.

Dog Friendly. Welcoming, friendly & helpful staff. Outdoor heated booths where we enjoyed lunch. Parking via Victoria park 2min walk away (2quid 2hrs). Cashless 👌🏻

This is a lovely pub with good selection of beers and ciders. Lovely and friendly staffs with good service. All facilities were good and clean. Internal deco is very good. There is a beer garden. Food is served here but we did not eat here. This is a CASHLESS establishment.

Sunday lunch. It certainly didn’t disappoint. Tried this pub on the recommendation of a friend taking my son and daughter for a Sunday roast. The pub is lovely and spacious with a lovely courtyard too. We were served by such a lovely lady who was so polite. We had the roast chicken, roast beef and vegetarian wellington. We all said 5 stars to everything on our plates. Perfect roast and Yorkshires and the mash was great too. Honestly best roast we’ve had in Leicester in many years. We will be back. Thankyou.

A really pleasant surprise. Lived in Leicester 8 years and my firstvtrip to the marquis. Gastro pub modern interior with a lovely garden space. The food is approachable but interesting with a selection to suit pretty much anyone. An everards pub so don't expect a large selection of other brewery ales, but the ones they have are well kept and the staff informed. I'll be coming back

Really nice pub on the way in to central Leicester. Friendly efficient staff who are happy for you to try a bit of their wide ranging beers ales etc. Quieter atmosphere with a pleasant buzz when it gets a bit busier. Previously had some great pub food!

Love this place. Food was excellent. Went for a Sunday roast and it was delicious. I had the ow roasted pork and my wife had the chicken. Best meal we've had in a very long time. We'll be back....thanks to the team.

Five adults and two children went to the Marquis for a birthday celebration. The food was amazing and was especially appreciated by three vegetarians. We were also impressed by the Children’s Menu which included pasta, pizza and lasagne, along side the more usual fish and chips. We were also delighted by the service which was efficient and friendly, and very considerate of one disabled person Altogether a great experience and I would wholeheartedly recommend the Marquis

Went in late afternoon and it was quiet, but left around 7pm and there was barely an empty seat. A nice relaxed atmosphere. Food is really good.

Stopped in on a Saturday afternoon for some food. My friend and I opted for a ploughman's lunch from the specials board, being quite hungry. What we were presented with was a disgrace to the history of a ploughman's lunch. Small slice of ham, half a small dry pork pie, a small mound of wilted salad leaves and 1/8th of a tomato, a slice of Stilton (which I requested a change as don't like Stilton and was told they couldn't (who doesn't have a bit of cheddar hanging around?) Some bread (was meant to have been toasted-felt like it had been shown a candle for a few seconds and a pile of the worst piccalilli. It looked terrible, didn't taste much better, but we were hungry. And it was £15.95!!! Will try to attach a photo (my friends plate, with my extra Stilton and a couple of donated chips from her partner who had a very average burger). And then for educational purposes, what a proper ploughman's should be like. Server seemed surprised that we were dismayed. Presume they have never seen or enjoyed a proper ploughman's. Won't be returning. Ever. Beer wasnt great either. Only saving point was that there was an outside area, and it wasn't raining

Went for Sunday lunch as it was recommended by a friend - would never return! The worst Sunday lunch I've had for ages! Chicken was so dry, it was unbearable, like it was cooked days before and reheated! The beast thing about it was the veg and Yorkshire pudding! Overall food standard was shocking! Ordered a flat white which was awful! Only positives about this place are the table service, polite staff and the general decor/ambience. Such a shame, this used to be a fantastic place. The menu was pretty limited for other meals, even the dessert was poorly put together! Utter shambles!

Visited here once and wasn't the friendliest pub I've ever walked into, bar staff ignored us for a good 5mins, and although not rude, definitely felt a bit of a local vibe to the place and not very welcoming. The pub itself is clean, with a great layout but we didn't even finish our drinks before leaving

I've eaten here a few times over the last few years and am always impressed. It's a standard pub food menu, with some good vegetarian and vegan options, made with love. Tonight we had pie, chips and greens (perfectly cooked, I might add) and a burger. Both were very good and reasonably priced. Sunday roasts are also excellent, with veggie and vegan options. Decent size beer garden as well as a good amount of indoor seating. Card only. Service is friendly and welcoming and I noticed some ladies (as well as gents) sitting alone, so it's clear that people feel comfortable here.

Not too impressed with food at all. For me it was not as hot as it could have been, overpriced and almost average quality. Bar staff didn't appear in a rush to get anything done and the bar was covered in spillage. Beer was ok, but definitely won't be eating here again.

Nice place to eat, their veggie Sunday roast is our favourite of anywhere in the city. Bar staff can be a bit unwelcoming at times, but they're easily ignored.

Nice pint of Guinness very well kept prices good for a city centre pub nice chicken burger £15 suppose that's reasonable know day's.all in all a pleasant place

Great Everards pub with lots of different ales. Went here for a couple with friends, before going to see Paul Weller at the Demontfort Hall......it was great. Can't say what it would be like on a wet Wednesday evening with nothing on at the Demontfort, but it was good when we went.

Nice little find when visiting de Montfort hall,we went for drinks and food prior. Food and drinks were reasonably priced and very good quality,we both had different variants of burgers (highly recommended) booking advised as looked like a popular place. Huge range of drinks & real ales. Also looks like Smithy works behind the bar.

A quick pre concert drink and good stop: couldn’t have been better. Great beer, friendly service and excellent and prompt food. With thanks.

Great service and food in a traditional lively pub setting. A great time was had by all. We were visiting from Japan and loved the fish and chips especially.

Met a friend here for lunch in midweek. Unsurprisingly it was very quiet but this suited us as we were able to get a booth and have a good chat. This is an Everards pub and so had the main stays (Tiger, Old Original), with the addition of Tighthead and White Feather (which was very tasty) and more were advertised as coming soon. There was also a range of other popular lagers (Staropramen, Madri etc) and cider plus spirits (although I didn't look too closely at the range here). We both had a burger for lunch - the big bank burger and chicken burger - and this was what you'd expect from a standard pub burger and both were pretty tasty. There was a good range of other food available too. There was a lack of sauces on the table and these weren't offered when the food came. However, the staff were very friendly and welcoming and I would be happy to go back here.

A zero personality corporate pub nowadays sadly re-furbed in modern generic. A place for the herds of non choosy people and inexperienced student types who seem satisfied with meh beer and meh food, Not cheap either. I hate to say it but Wetherspoons has better beer and is better value and scarily.... has more personality. Meh-diocre. Dull, Dull, Dull. I left depressed, my life energy sapped.

Went as a group to try the roast. As a group we found that for the price it was underwhelming. Yorkshire pudding was very dry, not much gravy and it was very watery. 3 roast potatoes and minimal veggies. Beef was good but those that ate the chicken said it was very dry and bland. They forgot items on 2 dishes and wrongly charged for a beer when ordered a coke but they were quick and friendly to amend it so the service was good.

The photo says it all. Great food and friendly service. Lovely llooking old fashioned, traditional pub close to the city centre. We’ve been before and forgot how nice it was.

Not the best dining experience tbh. The young lady wasn't as friendly when placing my food order and the food itself is overpriced for what you get. The steak dish was already nearly £20 but in faint writing it says a sauce would be almost £3 more. Surely it should be included? The peppercorn sauce was so thin and the chips came on a ceramic bowl? To give the impression of a fuller plate, I don't think it's neccessary. Generally, this place is nice to have a few drinks, it's spacious and mostly well kept. They have a nice outside drinking area at the back but I feel they could offer better quality in their dishes. The other dish we ordered was the Scampi, could have done better with salad/presentation for the money you pay for these dishes. I would suggest all staff treat all patrons with in welcoming & friendly manner and make some adjustments to the presentation/ quality/ quantity of some dishes. Afterall, this is not a student pub with student prices.

As I was travelling with two children and had an unforeseen change of plan mid-way, this spot was amazingly accomodating. Attentive, helpful staff and a very cozy locale turned a stressful night into a great experience! Thanks!

Had a couple of meals here as we're in the area. All been great, the roast was really nice and a good portion of quality home cooked food.

The delightful ambience is encompassed only by the incredibly attractive bar staff. Also they have neck oil on tap. Screw flanders

Although it was extremely busy as it was concert night nearby we had pre booked. Ordering at the bar we were told it was a 30 minute wait but it arrived after 10. The food was hot, well proportioned and delicious. The staff, although rushed off their feet were attentive and extremely polite. Coffee was excellent too. Definitely call again.

Attended the restaurant last night with my family, i must say service was brilliant, the blonde lady who served us- i believe her name was lottie- was amazing. The food was lovely, definitely will be returning again as the cocktail menu looked appealing! Huge thanks to everyone who made the service impeccable.

Happy to have found the Marquis. Son at Leicester Uni had a birthday and this was ideal for a family meetup. Food was very good, beer excellent and waiting staff did a lovely job. Top marks and well done.

Stopped off here for a bite to eat before our Europe gig at the De Montfort Hall. What a really nice pub, really friendly staff, the gammon steak I had was perfect and my wife loved her steak too. I would recommend dropping into this pub for a visit and a bite to each. Highly recommend.

Came in at 5pm Sunday when we were aware the kitchen closed at 6. Although the roasts had all gone we had a steak and ale pie with veg and gravy which was delicious. Good atmosphere, beer and friendly staff

The pub was quiet in the mid-afternoon that we visited but staff were fast and efficient and the ambience relaxed and comfortable, it almost felt as though you were in a village The food was served quickly, although as I said the pub was quiet, and was hot (sometimes a surprise) and whilst basic tasted good. This is definately the pub that we will return to when next in Leicester.

An average pub meal. Prices are a little high for the area, but I suspect that's the scare away the students. Food was fine - nothing bad, nothing exemplary - and turned up quickly despite how busy the place was.

A really lovely pub with such a welcoming atmosphere. It doesn’t matter who is working, they all make you feel like you belong. Jed especially always makes the effort to stop and say hello. We regularly visit whenever we fancy a casual drink. They also have a nice little beer garden with sheltered seating booths and heat lamps. Highly recommend if you’re around the London Road area.

Didn't eat here but will in the future as the menu sounds good and the food we saw looked really delicious and good value. We did drink inn here on 2 occasions and both times we were impressed with the friendliness and knowledgeable staff and the range of drinks on offer. We sampled a range of beers and cocktails.

Very good experience in my recent visit, was served by Jed who said the new salt lime larger, great suggestion. We also chatted and he told me about his recent holiday, very friendly dude.

We ordered two Sunday dinners one starter and a pudding snd it was £21.95 each it was incredible the soup was tomato and Cajun pepper and honestly hands down best soup I've ever tasted!!! The Sunday dinner is just EPIC!!! We had a cheeky chocolate cake for dessert and it was perfect! The lady that served us was so friendly and attentive! Such a great place to eat and drink 100% reccomend to anyone!!! 💖

Late notice Sunday lunch with some of the family 😁👍. Recommended by the younger branch of the Leicester arm. Not sure if the whole of the menu is as good, but the belly pork was excellent. Among the best I've ever tasted. Service was very good for a busy pub type restaurant, the prices are very reasonable for the quality and the pub itself had a nice atmosphere. Highly recommended 👌 👍

Went for Sunday roast . Ordered the vegan option but was not worth the money, though edible could do better. Service was slow, considering that there was only a handful of people in a large place. Would I go again ? I'm not sure, there are better places.

Had a lovely family meal. Ordered a second round of drinks for the four of us, they put two totally unrelated drinks in the same glass giving us three drinks then we very rude when we queried it. We had to buy the two separate...

We arrived 20 minutes late and they very kindly held our table for us despite being very busy. Bar staff were welcoming and provided excellent service. We ordered the Sunday roast, and it really hit the spot. Generous portion size and service with a smile!...

Lovely pub with a great beer garden. Jed made us feel like regulars, even though we were just visiting.
