Had a very nice family lunch to celebrate a birthday. Adults and children really enjoyed their meals, the pies and the steak were excellent and the service very good. Will be back I'm sure.

Best Sunday Dinner love going to the railway food good and staff lovely we had a lamb dinner and chicken pie and coffee all was very good and drinks really enjoyed it

Had a gorgeous lunch today, I had nacho chicken burger 😍, my partner had fish and chips which he said was amazing. My Dad had Gluten free pie which was a break from tradition as he normally GF fish and chips, the pie was packed with steak and was beautifully presented, Mum had the ham hock. All very impressive, but what made it super special was that our 2 dogs each received a complimentary bag of treats and our waitress bought over a water bowl for them as soon as we arrived. The service was spot on, and Jade and Lily were very accommodating. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ The resident dog Bear was beautiful and very friendly and well behaved. Ample car parking and outdoor space to give your pups a leg stretch

I've eaten The Railway Inn many times and service and food have always been excellent. This time we took members of our family who'd never eaten there before and they absolutely loved the experience. I would highly recommend The Railway Inn.

Another wonderful meal today with our residents from West Hallam Care home. Once again nothing was too much trouble from helping escort residents into the pub to providing spare clothes. Always a pleasure to visit this pub, whose family holds a special place in our hearts. Thanks for the gluten free brownies.......very very good.

Food very good, service from a young man was fantastic,v polite, checking everything ok a credit to the team, first time here ,we definitely be back if not just visiting the area

Really great meal, all the team are always so friendly and accommodating when we’re grabbing a last minute meal. The food truly surpassed my expectations and the pies were home made and devine! Looking forward to going back again

Called for a Sunday roast today as we had called for a drink previously and thought how nice of a place it looked.The dinner however was abit of a let down… veg was very hard, as were the roast potatoes and the spoonful of mash was like frozen microwave stuff. The red cabbage was a nice touch though. The puddings were delicious, especially the brownie! The staff were lovely and attentive, and the place itself is a nice friendly pub. A lovely pint served here too but improvement needed on the lunchtime menu I’m afraid. Not one of us really enjoyed the meal, which was a shame as it was for a birthday celebration.

undercooked, just been outside and thrown the food up absolutely disgusting, table was so sticky and crowded, mash potato and roast potatos was hard and beef was so stringy chewy and undercooked

Absolutely brilliant place to go for food, my partner and I are viisitng my grandparents for the week, and my grandad thought to try as he hadn't been since it had changed hands, so we walked in and were able to have a table, they are spaced out, so we had a party of 6 sat next to us and we could still hear what others in our group were saying. It was a good atmosphere, and everyone was really friendly. They were very accommodating of my allergy needs and made sure everything was okay and double checking things to do with my allergy, Food was delicious and very filling, and our server Martha was really friendly and quick with drink orders. Highly recommend as we had a brilliant evening, with some great food!! I am still stuffed 2½ hours later! First and last visit for me sadly. It wasn't busy but the three of us waited longer for food than we should have. I always say you can't go wrong with fish and chips but discovered that you can here. Poorest quality fish ever, when you did find some in the thick batter. I did feedback to the server on the day too. Pleasant staff but not a pleasant visit. Shame.

Really delicious food. Attentive friendly service. Will be back! Shared nachos were excellent - not just tortilla chips thrown on a plate. Warm and crisp with very tasty toppings. Pies excellent - light crisp pastry with delicious fillings and gravy was super. Orzo salad was very tasty. Chicken supreme was superb.

Had a lovely meal, they serve a very good portion it hot and well served by very helpful staff.

Just popped in for a spot of lunch. Got to say the following loverly gardens well kept car park. Now the food, wow, yes again, we only had sandwiches. Mine was the roast beef, thick cut tender beer with mustard and red onion. Served with homemade chips, wife had the ham hock again loads of meat To boot, we both had the beer battered onion rings to die for crispy and nice soft onion inside. We booked the Railway Inn for a birthday celebration. Our party size was 27. The staff were very efficient and attentive. I liaised with Gareth and Jade to organise. Reservation process was smooth, for a party of this size we were required to pre-order and leave a small deposit. On the day, all food orders were executed with precision, food arrived piping hot and very quickly no one was overly waiting for their food. Commend them for providing excellent service level. We were fortunate to experience Ashborne on one of the hottest days of the year, one suggestion would be to install some aircon facilities as it was extremely hot inside the pub. Apart from this, we had a really nice meal, and the service was really good. Would recommend!

We played here this weekend at a community event - what a fantastic bunch of people! 😍 Excellent service - food arrived quickly, it was hot and tasty, and the staff were all lovely, without exception. The menu was good, the portions were decent and it felt home cooked 👍🏾 It was clearly a 'local pub', where people knew each other, but not to the point where you felt unwelcome as a stranger. If anything it was the opposite - lovely warm, welcoming atmosphere and nice surroundings. Feels like a lot of effort, hard work, love and passion goes into this place, and it shows. Absolutely worth a visit if you're passing, you'll love it, I'm sure 😊 Great work - you've got a lovely team and a lovely place there! 😍

Nice place to sit, people watch and have a meal. Waitresses were very pleasant but I'm guessing understaffed as it was a busy, sunny Friday evening, and there was only two of them and they were running around like blue arsed flies. Food arrived promptly was hot and tasty so the forgetting of a drink and bottle of water is forgiven. Been before and will happily go again.

Good food, reasonable portions but not great. Little pricey but nice atmosphere. (No mints with coffee and coffee was Luke warm) Little disappointed that they send me an email asking for a review and my mail client removed trackers from their email. Bit sneaky.

4 of us went for Sunday dinner yesterday, absolutely amazing food. Staff were lovely and accommodating, even bringing the dog a bowl of water and some treats out with our drinks. Great selection of drinks. The lamb was beautiful, melt in your mouth, good selection of sides. Will definitely be returning.

We visited the Railway Inn for the first time. Sadly the website and the reality do not match. The place would be great for families but it did not match our requirements as it is open plan, has no intimacy, and has Sky Sports on screens throughout. We chose to leave after a drink. Sadly my cask beer was also sour and was not drinkable but we were still charged for it. Not one for us in the future.

Fifth time in around a year dining here. The quality of the food, service etc has proved consistent. Very good all round, would recommend fish and chips, pie of the day, beer battered halloumi and the three bean chilli. Would probably recommend the other mains but haven’t tried them yet. Thought the sharing mezze platter had really good quality ingredients with incredible sweet peppers.

Visited on Mother's Day, would have been nice, had it been warm enough. Luke warm soup and a luke warm Sunday roast, really not worth the price they charge. Food had been pre-ordered a few days before and the table booked for a certain time, so I feel with a bit better management, things could have been easily improved.

Absolutely lovely pub! Our dogs were treated like royalty, which is so hard to find in a pub these days. We came on holiday and only expected to eat out once but this place is that nice we ate here everyday apart from once. Steak was lovely, light lunch sandwiches great, pie's are so tasty and their Sunday lunch is to die for! Definitely book for the Sunday lunch as the place was rammed out, which is so nice to see in a pub for once. Staff are so accommodating and chatty...would 100% recommend and we will be back!

Popped in to the Railway Inn for a spurr of the moment lunch. We were greeted by friendly staff and a pleasant atmosphere. Toilets were also spotless! Food was well priced and tasty pub classics with a good selection of starters and burgers. Definitely planning a return!

Good Marsden pub part of their chain. It is more geared towards the restaurant side than a typical pub. Not eaten here but food looks good. Outside area and large car park in a beautiful area a few miles north of Derby.

Went in for a family get together on Saturday. Booked a table and all ordered our food the little one aged 5 ordered (with parental control) fish fingers well what a unhealthy meal arrived basically battered yes battered with no bread crumbs in sight and not much fish inside this was pointed out to the good waitress and apologised and offered a replacement which was turned down. Then guess what it was left on the bill and not wanting to make a fuss just paid and left. Come on guys get it sorted a 5 year old being given a totally unhealthy meal. 😖

Large rural roadside pub geared towards food. Clean and friendly enough but lacking in atmosphere like so many knocked-through and extended older pubs. Met friends for pre-Christmas lunch. Trad turkey and trimmings was unexciting, meat looked as if it was pre-carved and had been kept warm for a while. Burger had rather thin patty but nice enough. Desserts adequate. Only two ales on but the Pedigree was well kept. Just under £100 for four two-course lunches with a single round of drinks. Service was fairly quick, friendly and professional. It's just a pity the food offering was so formulaic and unimaginative.

We called in the Railway Inn on a spur of the moment as we were passing. They have a good sized car park which is well set out with a good surface. There is ample seating indoors or outdoors. The Christmas decorations for this year are superb, as soon as you walk in it’s warm and welcoming, the tables look fantastic. We had a great experience, the service was great and the food was lovely and well presented. The staff were welcoming, polite and attentive. I would definitely recommend a visit, it won’t too be long before we’re back. (I only took these pictures as a bit of a sample, check the place out, you might enjoy it).

After some time in the doldrums, I am pleased to say that a recent visit with friends was most enjoyable. The food was good, as was the service and atmosphere.

Had a really good meal there. Pie night is on a Wednesday night. Good menu...Will definitely go again.

We ate here twice last week. Very well looked after by Oliver and Gareth. Great atmosphere, the music is quiet so you can enjoy a chat, and the food is well prepared and decent portions. All the staff are ‘on it’. Recommended..

Nice place clean and tidy. Nice tasty food with plenty of meat in the pies. Only criticism is that the roast potatoes were not very hot and the gravy was quite runny and not enough. They were going to charge an extra £2 for more gravy but as we complained they withdrew the extra charge.

Excellent service from Jade. Excellent food and drink options. Bus stop right outside so was able to enjoy a few pints. Festive menu looks great. I'll be back.

Outstanding food. Fresh, good quality and very tasty. Best pub we've found in a long time. Faultless, spot on service, again, this is often hard to find, but doesn't take much! Made a round trip of 20 miles approx for a special occasion as we knew we wouldn't be disappointed. Will be visiting again soon. Hope nothing changes too much here as they have the 'ingredients' for it all, and everything comes together perfectly!

I can't praise the railway enough. Called in for lunch after passing & seeing it has vegan options. The decor is lovely, really comfortable!! We were served by a lovely girl & a young lad, both extremely friendly & really informative especially about the vegan options (even offering mayo!!) Will definitely return soon & also for birthdays etc. Lovely to find a little gem where we can have a choice. Thank you railway!!

Moved to Wirksworth last year and have been to the railway a number of times since. Every single time the meal has been absolutely outstanding, with the most welcoming friendly staff you could wish for. The fish and chips here are the best you will find anywhere!

Best Sunday lunch I've had for ages. Food is just incredible, had Sunday lunch and everything was just made to perfection and home made with love. And the desserts, if you don't have room make some because you don't want to miss out. Service from Jade was amazing too very welcoming just tops off a nice visit.

The restaurant was almost empty and now we understand why! My husband ordered steak and when it came he noticed it had a very off putting smell to it, we told the waitress who said we could change it but it had completely put him off eating. I also had steak which didn't have the same smell but was very pale and poor quality, my son had fish and chips which was very dry and he only ended up eating his chips. We were refunded for my husbands steak but the meal was ruined and lots was left on the plates. Very disappointing attitude from the staff, who only offered to refund my husbands meal. Certainly would not return or recommend to others!! Would have rated 0 stars if I could!

Just an awesome local experience. The beer is always good and the food is always brilliant. Just booked for 6 of us attending an old farts reunion.

My son booked a fanily Sunday lunch for6 people but it was a disaster as we all had roast beef & 3 out of the 6 found the beef very tough and inedible, so didn't eat it and to be fair did not pay for it either. Won't be going there again!

Lovely dog friendly pub. High quality food and friendly service. Perfect for a dinner or drink after a long walk with dogs - plenty of tables outside.

This pub has now become our local. Staff are always attentive and friendly. Gareth, Llwyd, Jade, Jade and Katie really go out their way to chat with us and make sure we are satisfied.

Pleased to say that we had a really lovely meal at the Railway Inn, Shottle tonight. Such a good menu, lots of choice, food was excellent and great service too.

Lovely pub - very dog friendly and child friendly. We booked in advance as we were going for Saturday lunch, but it wasn't as busy as we thought it would. Food very good. I gave it 4 stars simply because the shortbread that came with my pudding tasted of cheese, which seemed odd. Great burgers and great children's menu. Two ales on tap when were in. Outdoor seating and play park.

We had an excellent meal. The menu was good with some very nice veggie and gluten free options and the food was excellent and presented very well. Our waitress was very new - it was her first shift in the job but she was great and another staff member was helping her very sensitively which was good to see.

Went today for Sunday lunch, the beef and lamb were excellent and the trimmings had a great flavour and were plentiful. Plenty of parking spaces, good location. We were welcomed politely, seated and ordered quickly. The meal was great,the service exceptional and all in all a lovely dining experience.

My partner and I were given a warm welcome when we arrived for an evening meal at the Railway Inn. I ordered a gluten free Homity pie and requested a salad instead of mashed potato or chips because a Homity pie contains potato, too many carbohydrates for me. My partner ordered fish and chips. Our meals arrived and to my surprise it was the first time for me to eat a Homity pie with no pastry case but a lovely filling . I suppose that is why the Homity pie is gluten free no pastry but nowadays there is plenty of gluten free flour available to buy. My salad contained only a mixture of green leaves. My partner's meal contained the smallest piece of fish, approximately eight chips and the garden peas were over cooked. We are both over fifty in age and we have never ever complained before when eating out at different pubs and restaurants but the meals we received at the Railway Inn were appalling. We felt extremely disappointed and we strongly recommend if you visit the Railway Inn at Shottle order a drink only. Helen and Darren from Belper

Really glad we decided to book a table here. The atmosphere was relaxing with good space between the tables. The staff were lovely and friendly and the food tasted great. Very reasonably priced too! We will definitely be back again.

Great food, all freshly cooked. Hubby had pie of the day, steak red wine and horseradish, with homemade proper chips, veg and gravy. Well tasty with average prices. Lovely big pub/restaurant with large kiddies play area . Would go again.

Extremely delighted first visit beautifull food well presented... however second time was abysmal food no taste cheap and nasty didnt eat after my first bite..after complaining I was told recently change meat suppliers but was changing back so went for a third time...and guess what same disappointing taste of burger can only be described as cheap sausage patty taste not 100%beef like it states.
