Surprise 70th birthday party held in the back of the venue. The party room was lovely anx spacious with patio access outside. I didn't even know it existed as you can't see from the front of the pub. Excellent buffet and staff very attentive. Xx

Not serving food today (Tuesday) so I stayed for a drink. Found staff to be friendly and welcoming. Good selection of drinks available, including quite a few non alcoholic choices. 🙃

A friends family party in the function room great place loved it.

This place has never failed. The staff are very customer focused and have always made us feel welcome on our arrival. They are polite and willing to please. Vic and her team are so passionate about making everyone that comes through their doors have the best food and company possible .........and it shows ...... if you have not stumbled into this cosy place yet please make a conscious effort to do so you will not regret it. Dog lovers and people lovers that supply a range of delicious beverages at the same time, What are you waiting for, you can thank me later

Absolutely lovely meal! Proper homemade chips was gorgeous. Bar staff was so helpful when it come to adapting my order to what I wanted & helped with every request. Both bar ladies made us feel very welcome & we look forward to returning. Ps.. pie night is not one to be missed! (Nor are the Indian style topped fries) massive portions & great beers ✌🏼

This independently run establishment has something for everybody: play area, great food, friendly staff and a beautiful function room. We are regulars and can't recommend it highly enough.

Really disappointed with this place, both occasions we have visited and the service has been really poor, such a shame as the food was nice. However waiting an hour and half for 6 Sunday lunches, was just ridiculous. Yorkshire puddings came out separately, 5 minutes after the meals arrived. Won't be coming again.

Had lunch at The Sitwell Arms today. You really must go there, the staff are totally exceptional. I ordered the Chilli Cheese Nachos, far better than any Mexican Restaurant I have been to, so large, I couldn’t finish it, so they packed it up for me and I had the rest for dinner, absolutely lush. Well done guys, I will certainly recommend you and be back for food x By the way, my review is totally validated x

My mum and our friend booked for Sunday lunch here last week and this, last week my friend found a piece of string in her dinner and we was told that they’d only give us a 4 pound discount due to the chef not knowing?? My friend could have choked on this piece of string had it been eaten. As for this week we arrived and told a bar staff member we were booked in who completely ignored us and walked off, she couldn’t smile even if she tried which was a poor start to our time here, we were then seated and our orders took swiftly, however, we then waited over an hour due to the mash potato not being ready? I would have thought this would have been prepared in advance. A couple sat opposite us got their dinner more or less straight away which disgruntled us further. We stressed the bar staff on paying for our food that we weren’t happy with the service or the time spent waiting for our food and expected some kind of discount to which they straight up said no We won’t be visiting here again, after working in customer service my self and being a supervisor, I thought this was disgusting and there needs to be some customer service training put in place. No one wants to see miserable staff !!!

A fabulous place to eat. We all ordered from the main menu. The dishes were beautifully presented and all delicious. Service was excellent. Drinks were reasonable priced too. We couldn't fault a thing. Will definitely return.

The food was good, with excellent portions, but volume is not about taste! Service was not perfect with disagree as to what we pre ordered. Atmosphere was not as romantic personal table, but a table in a large room . It was good food, but not great service. I would prefer in a smaller room.

Found this rural pub today by accident. My wife and I were on a ramble and as we came off a footpath there it was. We stopped for a drink and lunch and found what they had to offer. Good food, friendly staff, great ales, large car park, function room for large events and even a play area for children. We have booked already for a party of ten and will be coming back for my wife's birthday. Try this lovely rural pub and you will not be disappointed

Having driven past more times than I care to count I actually visited this week and dined. It was brilliant a mixture of original country pub with modern dining. The staff were lovely and welcoming the prices fair the choice of drinks both on tap and behind the bar perfect would highly recommend so much so we are planning to book a part event there.

I've been wanting to try here for ages, especially come summer after seeing the kids play equipment, knowing full well our children will love it. We tried today as we found our selves child free and also went along with my parents and it was amazing. Lovely old style pub which we love, lovely food, amazing portion sizes and the staff are so nice and friendly 👌🏻we will definately be back and we have decided as a fily this will be our new gathering place for food and drinks. We attended a Golden Wedding Anniversary party here recently. The event room was lovely. The food was great. The staff were friendly and attentive. I would thoroughly recommend this place for events/ parties.

Went last night for tapas and oh my was it worth every penny. £16.95pp for an absolute Spanish feast plus a live band who were absolutely incredible. Staff were very welcoming, helpful & friendly. Their function room is an amazing space, great atmosphere and dressed beautifully. Would definitely recommend to anybody wanting a truly great time

Amazing for kids, they had a charity event on, so plenty was entertainment the park area is great too.

Went for Sunday lunch which was good but the beef was very well done - shame about the limited opening times for food (they finish quite early even on weekdays) and menu in the week is quite limited. They do get busy so best to book. There’s a great play area if you have children with a huge inflatable Slide - not sure if this was there just for school holidays?

This pub has been changed from a run of the mill pub to an excellent venue. The landlady who is also the chef serves amazing food. The staff are friendly and always try to please. We have lunch there weekly and find it a friendly cosy pub. The outside area has been made into a childrens adventure playground and is fantastic. Five stars from us.

Booked the function room for our Wedding Party, cannot recommend this pub highly enough. What the staff manage to do for this type of venue is absolutely incredible, they are so accommodating, always helpful particularly with dietary requirements with food, friendly and awesome! Food as always, is the star of the show. Please book for your events!

We took the grandsons to the Sitwell to play in the children's play area before lunch. They enjoyed it but the beer was off and our chip butties were awful with insufficient condiments. Very sad. It started out so well.

As always food was fantastic, the chips are to die for, and the Cajun wraps are super delicious. We have eaten here on many many occasions and the food and service is always 1st class, we have never had a bad meal ever and over the last 2 years or more we have never found anywhere better for the price, quality and overall experience. The Sunday dinners are super delicious and the roast beef melts in your mouth. I have looked at some of the negative reviews and in my opinion they are absolute bull, they say you can never please everyone, but I think a little vendetta and jealousy has led to these reviews, get a life!!! And stop trying to ruin someone’s business when they have and are doing so much for their customers. I mean what sort of people visit a pub and play area and take there own food and drink, how cheeky, it’s unbelievable. Keep up the great work to all the staff and landlady, you are doing everything right that’s why it’s so busy all the time. Well done 👏

Went for lunch with friends. My plate of food was inedible! The quiche I had ordered had been reheated and had turned to scrambled eggs. I sent it back and they produced another one - which was just the same. One of the other diners had been served with the wrong meal but tried to eat it anyway because she didn't want the rest of us to have to wait while the meal she had actually ordered was prepared. It had some kind of awful sauce on it which, when she queried it, was told that it was mint yoghurt. We all tried a taste - not one of us agreed that it was yoghurt (it was sweet tasting for a start) and we thought it was more likely mayonnaise with a bit of mint mixed in. When it came to payment time, I said I assumed that we weren't expected to pay for the two meals which had been inedible. The barmaid snapped back at me "You ate them!" I corrected her saying that we hadn't eaten them and said again that I wasn't prepared to pay. She said she would speak with the landlady. When she eventually returned she said the landlady said we should pay 50%! I was completely aghast - whenever has anyone ever heard of a customer being expected to pay for a meal which had been sent back twice! I refused again to pay and asked to see the landlady. When she joined us the landlady blamed us and told us that other people had had the same meal and had not complained. She said in two years of serving food at the pub no-one had ever complained. My friend asked about the so-called mint yoghurt and said it definitely wasn't yoghurt but the landlady then offered to fetch the jar it had come out of to prove it was yoghurt - who on earth has ever heard of yoghurt from a jar?! The landlady then 'invited us not to come back'. She needn't worry - it's the last place on earth I would ever return to. I have been motivated to write this review not because of the food, but because of the most appalling treatment of the customers by the landlady and her expectation that we should be paying for food which we couldn't eat. I would most strongly recommend that people don't visit the place unless they want to be insulted by this awful woman!

What a lovely pub. The food was lovely, and the staff were really friendly. Plus the kids play area is wonderful. I really hope they carryout their plans to build a BBQ terrace down there.

What an absolute joke of an establishment. Completely ignored at the bar multiple times so that the landlady (who hasn't got a clue how to pull a pint) could serve her locals. After the 3rd time of being blanked I walked away from the bar, collected my family from outside and we went elsewhere. Disgusting service from what could be a nice pub. You lost off out on a good 150 quid there and we certainly won't return.

My cousin booked by phone for Sunday lunch some 10 days prior for two couples. On arrival we were told that no record of the booking could be found and that they could not accommodate us. This seemed a little surprising in that the rooms we could see (and this was at 1pm) were all empty. There also seemed to be a large number of bar staff milling around with a little to do. I can see from other recent reviews that booking issues are an ongoing problem. We were fortunate in that the Spanker Inn at Nether Heage was able to accommodate us at short notice and I would not hesitate to recommend them.

We booked a table to attend for Sunday lunch. On arrival we was asked by staff for the surname for the booking that we had made the previous day. The staff could not find any record of the booking that we had made and as a result of their incompetence we was turned away. Reading other reviews this same problem happened in May 2023 to another potential customer. Based on our personal experience and reading other reviews I would not recommend any establishment that cannot do a simple task of taking a booking correctly. I will certainly not be returning after such a ridiculous demonstration of incompetence.

Too loud. Tables too close to customers being served at the bar. Too many staff behind the bar who were falling over each other and didn't appear to know who was doing what!! Disappointing service when asked if we could move tables to one near the window which no one had turned up for a 4.45 booking. Was told, 'they book that table every Friday and Saturday so we keep it for them'?????? What sort of service is that? We left and will not return.

Very disappointed. Very loud. Table was in the way of customers. Another table near the window had a reservation on it for 4.45. We went for 5.45. The table was empty so my husband asked one of the bar lads if we could move tables. He was told that 'they book that table every Friday and Saturday night so we keep it for them' ????? They never turned up. We left.

Fantastic food, great staff lovely patio area

Great things for kids but please please can someone come round and tidy up . Pizza boxes and glasses /bottles everywhere. An alsatian was aloud to 💩 and no body picked it up 😞. Will try again hopefully things will be better next time .

Well done for creating a fun and exciting place for families outside. Perfect weather for a slice of pizza and an alcoholic beverage whilst the kids have endless fun on the park and inflatables.. food was 4 star instead of five because we had a dairy allergy and there is limited choice for allergies for the outside menu.. much to our little boys disappointment. We won't be able to order food outside here again as we don't want him to be left out but very happy to have a drink.

Excellent venue perfect for the children. Just a shame you ran out of beer! But you were exceptionally busy.

Though linked to the pub In actuality we went here for a dog show which was really nice, the pub granted use of its garden and play area for the event and it was very well received by the locals We came from further away in ilkeston and tempted in, it was a great day and good fun for our whole family, due to the space my little girl was able to play safely with other kids and make some friends and we got to enjoy the event and sunshine The pub though I only went in for the odd refreshment is in a lovely location and did its best to be as helpful and accommodating as possible I love my walks and may consider taking local walks from or two this location Will visit again.

Sitwell Arms public house at Horsley Woodhouse is a popular venue and well worth a visit. There is a outdoor play area for the kids along with a seating area allowing you to eat and enjoy a drink outside whilst the youngsters play. If the weather isn't kind there is plenty of room indoors. If you have a special event coming up there's a separate room for parties available.

The Sitwell Arms is located in Horsley Woodhouse, a small village in Derbyshire. It consists of a restaurant, a bar, a function room and a very large outdoor area with kids swings and climbing frame. The restaurant's food is of good quality and the staff are also friendly and helpful. The pub is situated in a peaceful location and provides easy access to nearby attractions such as the Peak District National Park. However, some of the decor and facilities are somewhat outdated and could use some renovation. Overall, the Sitwell Arms is a reasonably priced pub that offers a comfortable stay with friendly service and good food. However, it may not be the most luxurious or modern option available in the area.

Absolutely appalling experience this evening. Booked a table for two, two days in advance for our desired day. We arrived to find our table had not been booked and they could not fit us in. Having called two days earlier, I should expect a table to be booked and ready for me. The reaction from the staff when they had realised they had messed up was an utter shambles. As we were turned away one of the staff tried to sit us in the quiz room, however who wants to go for a meal and sit alone in a room. I believe this behaviour from the venue must be seen to immediately. I would not recommend anyone to go here booking or not. Harsh tones, unwelcoming, rude and disgraceful

Disappointing. Had cheesey nachos. Lump of melted cheese on top and tiny pots of toppings. Led to some very dry nachos. Also heard another table complaining about portion sizes

Pleasant place, furniture is past its best though, friendly staff and nice food. Service was slow because there was a wake going on in the back room, and the staff were trying to cope with it all. Decent menu, nice ale, good prices, child and dog friendly. Great play area for the kids too, if you bring any!

First trip here tonight. Great bar menu lots of options from around £8.95 -£12.95 for a main meal. Huge portions. We both had burgers. Wifey couldnt finish hers. I found it to be a little greasy but probably the choice of meal. Good selection of real ale, £4 a pint.🙄 perhaps I havent been out recently!? Will be back with the dog soon.
