SeaFish Restaurant in Amber Valley

Always travelled from Chesterfield for our chippie suppers from here, will not be doing this again. Food for 4 ordered, fish batter was like concrete, fish, chips and fish cake tasted very heavily of grease. Total waste as we threw it away, others in there were also complaining.

Called in for a late lunch and it was excellent. Freshly cooked fish and chips, large succulent cod and chunky haddock with crispy batter and great chip portion sizes. Friendly service with a smile and lovely clean welcoming environment. Feels so much nicer than sitting in a shop window as it’s a proper restaurant. Spotted a young family whose children even took the time to say thank you themselves too. It wasn’t busy at 3pm in the restaurant which is probably an odd time to eat but it suited our day. I’d highly recommend going and trying it for yourself. Keep up the good work Sea Fish and thank you for the experience.

Old oil, could smell the old fat, chips were awful. Pale and had an odd taste (assume this was due to the oil). Worst chippy I’ve ever been to. Slow service, wouldn’t have minded a wait if the food was decent.

Called in last minute on way home from airport. Surprised and pleased to see (coeliac sufferer in family) they are now frying Gluten Free every day. GF flour used in the Batter so most things available to ppl with Coeliac and / or Gluten intolerance. Notably the pies are standard and appeared to be stored separately as to avoid cross contamination. GF vinegar also available alongside standard malt. Pleasantly surprised how crisp the batter was on the fish. Best of all, decent size fish chips and peas for less than £7! Great efforts and value 👌

Drove half an hour out of our way for birthday dinner Not open when it says it is!

Called in for a takeaway 2/10/24 at 6.15 pm Place seemed dark not sure they were open. Young man appeared to serve and was pleasant. Not much choice. We had chips and fish cakes with peas and beans. However, when we got home the chips were very pale and tasted chemically/horrible leaving a very unpleasant aftertaste. we didn’t want to eat them so chucked the lot away. Very disappointed.

Popped in for a takeaway meal for my son. Easy to park, disabled access too. A real asset to the town. Excellent friendly service, freshly cooked food served in a reasonable time and a great sized portion. Thank you Sea Fish.

Awful, not a patch on what it once was. Service was always slow but I didn't mind as the food was always cooked to order. Now it's slow and the quality of the cooked food is poor. Eg. Batter uncooked and gooey.

Great bargain lunchtime offer. £6 for two lunches consisting of a boxed meal of a large sausage, chips and gravy. Hot, fresh and tasty. Different offers each lunchtime. No better value locally. I know I have tried them all.

Collected our order. Dreadful overcooked fish. Not interested when you let them know it's not good.

Stopped by for a quick sit in meal, very nice food. The peas and the gravy very tasty. Fish was very large and cooked to perfection. Kids had kids meals but were a good size. Service was very good, greeted by a young girl who was very polite and helpful and served by Julie who was great, very helpful with the menu and cheered up our little girl by getting down to her level whilst she mid tantrum. Great service and food guys we will be returning. 😊🙏

Popped in for a lunchtime takeaway. Was impressed with the lunchtime specials £3 each for large sausage, chips and gravy. The portion size was very good, the food was hot and the service was good. The young staff were helpful, personable and friendly as we had not visited this place for a while we took their advice. Overall good value, with a big free car park and a good lunchtime box. It puts to shame other similar places in Ripley and Belper that are pricier, offer smaller portions and the council wants you to pay for parking. Recommended.

Fish and chips was cold , found cat hair in food … Made me feel sick. Never go back again ,, staff was very rude ….

Ordered 1 portion of chip luckily. They were cold and tasted like warm up chips that had been cooked previously would not recommended Also frying range glass looked like it could do with a good clean

Absolutely disgusting!!! £13 for frozen chips!! Went back for a refund and refused by two teenagers about to lock up on their own!! Should be ashamed of yourselves ripping families off!! VILE!!! Never coming here again 🤮🤮🤮🤮

We were only ones in restaurant about 2pm Wednesday, so there wasn't much atmosphere. Staff very friendly and helpful. Best batter I've had on a fish, dry, crispy and not greasy. Only have post beer, no cask.

Just collected a large chips. Most of the lights were off and staff nowhere to be seen. Several minutes went by before a staff member came and took my order. I waited for about 10 minutes for the chips, which I was happy to do as they were fresh. Just got them home and they look cooked on the outside, but are solid on the inside. Not sure how a chip shop can mess chips up but they did!

The kebab meat was toughest I have ever been given.

First time I've been here, had a takeaway pie and chips, with onion rings, the pie was luke warm, the onion rings were overdone, the chips were so so, plus a can of coke, came to 12 pounds, which I thought was expensive. Sorry to say I won't be returning.

Been for lunch, not much of anything on menu today, most things off ie cod, scampi curry pies etc. Also noticed place seems to have gone downhill since I last went.

Called in tonite to eat at the restaurant just after 7.00 pm, said we could not eat as they had a party, there was about 10 people in there……..wow !, can they only cope with small parties and close the rest of the restaurant, won’t be trying again, we are locals so no recommendations will be given by us

Having recently changed office location, Seafish is now a local option for Fish and Chips to take home on a Friday night instead of Nik's in Belper. I ordered online which was a very easy process and could pick all the options I needed including whether to add salt and vinegar to chips. I'd paid online so only needed to collect. Staff behind the counter were very friendly and answered a few questions I had very well. There was plenty of waiting area and even a nice comfy long bench seat / sofa which made the very short wait even more comfortable. The large cod was huge and would not fit in a box and only just fitted in the bag! The sausage, chips and sauces were also of good standard. The fish was perfect and was some of the largest white fish I have had the pleasure of eating, far better than what we have been used to recently at Nik's in Belper, and actually cheaper as well. I will certainly be using Seafish regularly from now on, and may also try the kebab and burger options as well over time. Highly recommended

Used to be a good fish and chip shop, went in this afternoon for a takeaway. Lads serving were friendly and pleasant. Food was shocking. Worst I’ve had yet.

I've just read a few reviews on here. You say you take them seriously. Ok . Answer this. I came with my son,for a take away. He's in a wheelchair. Why could he not get into the takeaway area. Steps one way, the other way the door was blocked. Your none helpful staff. Couldn't help saying it's not my problem.

We went in memory of a very special person who used to love to go there and it was absolutely dreadful. Everything we asked for they hadn’t got they served prawn cocktails with fried prawns (they we’re disgusting) asked about coffee or tea to be told we could have one but would have to wait 15-20 mins as they had no hot water. It was also freezing cold. We were the only people in the restaurant and it took 3 hours for rubbish. Needless to say we won’t be going again any time soon.

Lovely staff, lovely food. My only criticism is the wait time but i understand there are lots of meals to be prepared.

I had cod and chips (well, whale would be a better description) it was massive. The only downside was that there wasn't a medium-sized option, as there was for the haddock. It was very nice, though.

UPDATE: AWFUL, BURNT, INCORRECT ORDER RECEIVED TONIGHT. NEVER AGAIN. PHOTOS TAKEN. COULDN'T EVEN EAT IT. AWFUL, RUDE SERVICE. We have eaten takeaways loads from Seafish, but these days about 50% of the online ordering doesn't work - but charged us all the same. When you walk in the welcome is less than friendly. Tonight took the biscuit though, I tried twice to order and was charged. My partner ordered once and was charged. Then my partner walked up, only to find them closed!! They should have posted they were shut and turned off their online ordering system. The food is generally good but everything else is rubbish. Poor.

Had doner and chips, and mix kebab and chips. Absolutely disgusting taste to doner and chicken. Massively overpriced cost £18 for 2 bits of rubber chicken that's been reheated god knows how many times. Will not be going again.. avoid avoid avoid

This was my second lunch time visit to the Sea Fish restaurant and just like the first visit, I really enjoyed it. Lovely friendly staff and excellent service.

Food was OK. Would have been nice if I could get my wheelchair into the takeaway section. And would have been nice if I could have got into the building without someone assistance with the doors.

Stodgy steamy chips big portions loads of large fish and big pot of peas and curry and reasonably priced id go takeout to save a bit unless your lopping on the salt and vinegar

Unfortunately the chips tasted like they had been cooked for hours it was a Sunday but no excuse for that. Wouldn’t go back large portion but not very nice.

Not had anything from here for ages so last night I had chips peas and gravy large, the only positive is yes it was a huge portion . But the food was horrible it tasted old they went in the bin I won't be having anything from here again !!!!

We were regulars until management changed. The chips were undercooked and the fish was horrible and still had bones present. Don't reccomend.

Expensive and bang average. Won’t be back. Forgot to ask if the fish was skinless so had to mess around removing the skin when I opened it. The fish was tasteless. Chips were ok but nothing to get excited about.

Went here today 18/01/24 @ 14:35 the Fish & Chips me and my wife had was fantastic & the Lady who served us was one in a million with a great attitude and very friendly & helpful

I have been to Seafish a lot of times however the last 5/6 times the food has certainly gone down hill, tonight was no exception. They were understaffed and the staff they did have on were very young. Firstly, I waited 35 minutes to be served and for the food to be cooked. Secondly, once home I began to eat my fish and chips. The chips were still raw and crunchy, the fish raw in places, a revolting skin still left on the fish and the fish was smelly like it was either going off or had gone off. I'm 5 months pregnant so on top of this all it is very dangerous and made me feel incredibly sick. I called Seafish. The young lad on the end of the phone couldn't have given less of a damn. There wasn't even a manager on site for me to talk to. Apparently a manager would call me back, I'm still waiting, good job I'm not holding my breath. It's disappointing this place has gone down hill but after several bad meals, this one being the worst by far, sadly I won't ever be returning apart from my refund which I will be receiving.

Ordered online to collect, payment was taken immediately but whilst waiting for order confirmation received an email to say the order had been cancelled due to *staff too busy to process order *connectivity issues *other technical issues Refund could take up to a few days. First and last time ordering online from here.

Food was fine but the cleanliness of the takeaway left a lot to be desired.

Worst chips ever! Food wasn’t freshly cooked. Chips tasted as if they had been standing and warmed up. Inedible! Threw 90% away. Fish also disappointing. Missing bread from a kebab meal. Never again.

Normally it's great but I turned up at 8.30 and they decided to close early as there was no customers. 5 cars in the carpark come to get fish n chips ! 🤔

Had a large chips from here Friday they were really blank and atleast 40% had black heads or were rotten

Lovely meal, there were 6 adults and 2 children, we just turned up . we explained that we were turned away from the local pub as children had we had out for 7pm. They really looked after us and the food was lovely

The most disappointing fish and chips. Dry, old haddock, half cooked soggy chips. The mushy peas were ok. Service non- existent….

Friday tea time you would expect fresh fish and chips not the case here dont no how long they had bin cooked chips dry and not very warm fish not much better, service very slow felt sorry for the lady who was doing the front of shop on her own and was struggling, I waited 35mins and it wasn't that busy.

With hearing gossip about this restaurant I went in with little to no expectations but wow I was blown away The food was so fresh the chips that I thought would be dripping with grease was just lovely not greasy at all.. This restaurant needs more recognition don’t always believe what you hear and go try this place out for yourself.

Been a few times recently and the staff have been great. Restaurant is only open until 8.30pm so be aware of that. Food is lovely too, very tasty!

It's a chippie, so on that basis, good marks. Not always as good as last week, but really chirpy at the end of service and a top fryer of fish.

Takeaway- chips were absolutely awful. Dry as a bone and over cooked like they had been sat there for hours. Brown and stale. Loads of black chips too. Fish was okay. They have changed their curry sauce, I used to really like their curry sauce as it used to be a bit spicy and different from others. Their car park needs attention as I fell and almost broke my ankle on a pot hole.

Just walked into this place against my better judgement. As last time I came here. The service was atrocious as people were queueing out the door and the staff members couldn’t even be bothered to address anybody and told them how long they would be waiting. Tonight, as soon as we walked in the lady behind the counter looked straight at us and said “we haven’t got much left “ Another lady walked in and was told the same thing, and when she was asked “well, what have you got left? “She simply said “not much “exactly what uses that to a customer? If the lady in question went out for a meal and was told that the restaurant I’ve got nothing left and couldn’t even be bothered to say exactly what that was would she be satisfied all the lights were turned off are they struggling that much but they can’t pay the electric anymore very very very poor

Have eaten here a few times it’s very hit and miss but what’s pushed this review is it states clearly online and on your signs you are open Mondays till late, but I got there at 8.30 pm to find you closed and a badly written sign stuck on the door stating your closing at 7pm due to it being a Monday absolutely unacceptable service.

Excellent fish and chips. 1 star off for serving them with a stupid salad garnish. Now 5 stars. Excellent fish and chips, charming waitress nice cup of tea. Now no silly garnish.

Ordered a takeaway to pick up which he always been good. Tonight it was very poor. Was clearly ready early and waiting as wasn’t hot. Regular fish was clearly a small and it wasn’t great, perhaps equivalent to frozen oven cooked in quality. Chips were very dry. Chicken strips were absolutely atrocious, criminal almost. The size of these things looked like they were battered chickens toes but there’s more meat in chicken toes, these were all batter. Very disappointing, I can only assume they’ve changed hands because it’s not just gone downhill, it’s fallen off a cliff. Packaging is all polystyrene now as well vs their old environmentally friendly type.

Went on way bk from work the service was slow and terrible the woman behind the counter couldn’t read the tickets the food was over cooked and the gravy was lumpy and tasteless also I only live a couple of min down the road and was in my car the food was cold avoid!!

Unfortunately it seems as though this place has gone down hill in a short space of time (Seems as though it is under new ownership). It has the feel of a place running down before it closes permanently. Lots of items missing from the menu, food was really poor and the service non existent, didn’t even apologise for getting a meal wrong. Really poor experience and we won’t be going back in a hurry. Would not recommend!

We met up with friends for lunch. Staff were friendly and service was quick. Lovely freshly cooked fish dishes. I thought it was just a fish and chip place with dining in but they do so much more. So not a problem if you dont like fish. I had grilled seabass with chips and salad and couldn't finish all the fish. It was perfectly cooked. We will definitely be returning.

There was 1 lady running around serving everyone. She did a fabulous job. Chips were all crisp and bad ends.

This place used to be very good the fish used to have light batter that was perfect. Now the batter is heavy and overcooked. The fish is over cooked on the edges and chewy and hard. Awful fish. It was once the best fish for miles around now we’ve said we won’t give them another chance. 2 bad meals in a row so no more.

What a shambles 30 mins for 2 small fish,chips and peas only 1 staff on and she was as much use as a chocolate t-pot had to ask me 4 times what I ordered then squeesed into the smallest of containers so went everywhere it used to be the best chippy in ripley now gone down hill
