The best restaurants serving British food in England

Having driven past for 20 years I finally took heed of the positive reviews and visited for a quick business lunch. We will not return. Nice building, pleasant layout. Cold reception from a disinterested young man in tracksuit at the bar, hardly bursting at the seems with the good and great of Henley, this was a very down market experience. Pie and mash with gravy out of a tin did nothing to improve the atmosphere.

Great coffee and superb cheese scones! A lovely place to stop off on our walks. Need to return for lunch as the meals coming out looked amazing. Good ambience and enjoyed the autumn pumpkin decorations.

We hosted my son and future daughter in laws engagement party at TBK. Superb Intimate venue, great service, great food. Organising the event was easy with the help of Sam to arrange food and welcome drinks. Would recommend to anyone!!!

This was the first visit, my wife and I had the pensioners specials. Food was excellent, portion size was just right. Pleasant genuine attentive staff and very nice surroundings. I had to ask about the mushy peas, best I've tasted... cooked on the premises not from a tin. We used to have a " go to " place in Whitley Bay but I think this is the new one! We will be back

Could not recommend enough! Staff are so friendly and welcoming. They make sure to go above and beyond for customers, making sure you have everything you need. Decor is absolutely fabulous and not to forget they grow their own fresh ingredients, you don’t get a better experience than that. Food is 10/10 so flavourful, definitely will be returning.

Popped in for lunch and chose from the set menu offer. Food was of high quality, and the service was swift. Had pork schnitzel with peppercorn sauce, this came with grenadier potatoes and crisped carrots. Sat well on the stomach Pudding was a lemon tart with blackcurrant sorbet. Slid down well with a good balance of flavours.

The best dog friendly cafe in the lakes. Gorgeous food and the warmest welcome. This is our go to place when walking in the north lakes. All of the food always hits the spot but the cakes are just gorgeous!

For the second time we were approached by the waitress who said 3 times that this is not available so we left for the second time! I know that place is up for sale but really!!!!!!!

We came on 14/10/24 for a family wake. Mandy and Simon did an amazing job of making the room welcoming and accommodating us with all our wishes. The service and food were of excellent quality with a very fair price and there was plenty for all. It was so nice that even the cakes were iced in the favourite colours of our late family member, not requested but we felt was such a lovely added touch. We visited the Outgate Inn in Ambleside twice this week during our holiday with the kids, and we couldn't have been happier with the experience. The food is fantastic—especially the homemade burgers and wood-fired pizzas, which were a hit with the whole family. We were lucky enough to try the homemade chicken and leek pie as well, and it was delicious. Highly recommended! The beer is clearly well looked after, and the atmosphere is lovely and cozy, particularly with the log burner adding to the warmth. The staff are incredibly friendly and welcoming, making us feel right at home. There’s plenty to keep the kids entertained, from dominoes to activity sheets, and even treats for our four-legged friends! The locals are equally welcoming, and it was nice to chat with them about life in the area. All in all, we had such a wonderful time here and can’t wait to visit again. Wishing you all the best!
