Stayed here for an overnight stop while walking the Ridgeway path with friends. The manager, Luke, was the star of this place. Despite being extremely busy with a lively birthday function he always found time to deal with queries and give us advice on places to eat (the pub only does bar snacks). Also he sorted out a mix-up over the rooms in a professional and highly satisfactory way. The rooms themselves were clean and comfortable, all that we needed.

We just spent 4 nights at the coach makers arms. As soon as we entered the building we were made to feel welcome. Fabulous friendly atmosphere, we were shown to our room, which was nicely decorated and lovely and clean. Plenty of piping hot water, lovely comfortable bed, white fluffy towels and added bonus of a small fridge. Nothing was too much trouble. We’ve thoroughly enjoyed our stay, we would highly recommend and when in Wallingford we would definitely stay again.

Homely pub with locals visiting and a beautiful dog. Lynn was very welcoming, room was comfortable, ate in the evening a delicious pizza and joined in the quiz night (which we expertly lost, claiming we didn’t want to win in case the prize was a case of beer…). Breakfast in the morning was a good full English, setting us up for another day of walking. Definitely recommend.

I stayed in room 1 attic, the room was lovely, would of given a 5 but unfortunately the bed was very uncomfortable, and the shower had very little pressure. Them things aside the room was lovely and clean, and warm. My daughter enjoyed playing with family pub dog bow which was the highlight of her visit. All staff was very welcoming and helpful. We had a nice meal at The Coachmakers Arms last night. It is a lovely friendly pub with a good choice of wines (including Prosecco by the glass 🥂). Our group had halloumi fries (delicious, and home), made pizza, pasta and burrito which we all really enjoyed. The only downside (hence the 4 stars) is they didn't do any desserts. I had the small pizza so I could fit in a dessert so was disappointed. Overall though we really enjoyed the evening and highly recommend it.

We stayed here in 2015 and I am finally writing a review. We stayed in the flat above the bar. If memory serves, the owners had just purchased it and were in the midst of updating the accommodations. Back then it was pretty rough but we loved it. It looks as though they have made it much nicer. The one thing that stands out was the owner (or was it the owners father?) we got to talking and he ended up buying my drinks until closing time. If when we make another trek from Northern California, we will stay again.

I stayed for one night at The Coachmakers whilst doing part of the Thames Path walk. Communication with Lynne who runs the pub was great from the off. She was able to open up early to allow me to my room which was much needed after a long day of walking and despite not serving food on a Monday night she was happy to rustle something up for me. The bedroom was comfortable and the breakfast excellent - the best of the 3 places I ended up staying at as part of my short trip.

The Coachmaker's Arms has three bedrooms and we as a party booked two of them - bedrooms 1 and 2. Bedroom 1 has a king-sized bed together with a single, suitable for a child, and bedroom 2 has a super king-sized plus a single, or three singles if you prefer. Both bedrooms had a kettle with tea/coffee, a small milk fridge, a TV, and a hairdryer. The en-suite bathroom for bedroom 1 is huge. Bedroom 1 lacks drawer space but that didn't present an issue. There is a good choice of breakfasts including full English and smoked salmon with scrambled eggs, all served fresh. we didn't have the evening meal but can highly recommend the Sunday lunch, which always has a choice of at least two different roasts. The home-made puddings are well worth a go. Lynne, the owner of the Coachmaker's Arms, has a policy of age 25+ for casual drinkers and no loud music which which makes the bar area very traditional, welcoming and friendly. Everyone seems to be on first name terms. Hotel guests are, of course, excluded from the 25+ policy. Precautions are in place to prevent the spread of covid. A word of warning - as the bedrooms are on the first floor (bedrooms 2 and 3) and the second floor (bedroom 1), the hotel is not suitable for anyone with restricted mobility. All in all our stay was a very pleasant experience and we hope to return in the future.

What a quaint little gem of a place to stay. Within walking distance to the pretty town of Wallingford and the river Thames. The Coachmakers Arms was taken over in November 2019 by a lovely friendly Landlady called Lynne who couldn't do enough for us. Our room was very clean and comfortable with little extra touches of providing fresh milk in the fridge in the room. We were staying locally and came here for dinner. Food was excellent and a good selection of options. Both had starters - Chicken satay and jerk prawns. For main we had pork belly and monk fish with Pak Choi and a creamy coconut sauce. Really nice flavours and decent portions- too stuffed to look at dessert menus. Service was good and felt looked after. A little on the pricey side (£77 for 2 with an alcoholic drink each) but not too bad, especially for the quality and portions.

We decided on Sunday morning to try the Red Lion for lunch, and booked a table for 1330. We arrived and were met by efficient staff who were expecting us and offered us a choice of table. Drinks were ordered from a knowledgeable waiter and arrived quickly, mine being a very well-kept pint from tge local Amwell Springs brewery. We both chose beef from an extremely well thought-out menu which again arrived after only a short wait. The meat was beautifully cooked and presented on a large plate with very well cooked greens, carrots and a freshly-made Yorkshire puddings. Sides of cauliflower cheese and roast potatoes were excellent, probably the best roasties I've had, and the horseradish was similarly delicious. We both cleared our plates and the side dishes. Utterly gorgeous, go and see for yourself.
