Well it is a tale of 2 worlds. The food was mostly nice, the fries we had came out were over cooked. Replacements came out with an apology. The food however very overpriced for what it was.

Stayed 2 nights, very comfortable room and welcoming staff. Breakfast had limited choice but all freshly cooked, hot and tasty and happy to let you select whatever from the full English. Evening meal choice was excellent and well presented. Lemon sole, confit duck leg were as good as we’ve had anywhere. The newly added smoked trout and beetroot starter was delicious with a lovely light taste. Would definitely stay or eat here again if in the area.

The only I would say negative about the food is the home made pies we had on our last stay needed a lot more meat and more horse radish in the mash, otherwise great place to stay.

Came here with some friends for Sunday lunch and although we waited sometime for our table (which they knocked some money off the bill for) the food and service was fantastic. The beef was amazing and the Cauliflower and chilli soup starter was brilliant. We all said we will be coming back. Well done Coach and Horses Staff.

It had been years since we last went here for dinner, and I saw a recent Facebook post about their mixed grill sharing platter for 2 with a bottle of wine for 49.95! the picture was inviting and reading they were under new ownership we thought we would give it a go on a whim. Wow! We are so glad we did, it went above our expectations, steak, sausage, gammon with delicious charred pineapple, succulent peri peri chicken thighs, roasted tomatoes , garlic mushroom, chips & side salad and a lovely bottle of Malbac! It was devine! Friendly, welcoming staff and a good old country pub feel, we will be back to try more! Oh and we also won a free pudding for booking during black Friday week, the apple & fruit crumble was huge and delicious, my partner had the ginger sticky toffee which was surprisingly light and tasty. Thank you for a wonderful midweek treat!

Picked this place solely because it was half way to meet some friends. When we booked the guy sounded friendly and helpful. We turned up a little early and as weather was nice, they laid a table outside. Sunday menu with roasts but other options are available. Very impressed as you can choose a large or small plate. The food was excellent. The staff excellent. Anything we asked for, came instantly. Small query on the bill sorted instantly..smiles all round. Will make this a regular meeting place.

16 of us, including 1 toddler, visited on 1st April as a surprise for my Mum's 60th Birthday . We had the room at the back to ourselves and they let us put some decorations up. There were a lot of different meals ordered, but every single person enjoyed their food. The service was fantastic. They did a great job at bringing the food out at the same time and were so friendly and attentative. The staff were really good with my 18 month old Daughter as well. Everyone said how much they had enjoyed the food and atmosphere in this beautiful restaurant. We would highly recommend it.

We found the Coach and Horses by accident helped by the sat nav when another local place was closed unexpectedly at the last minute. Place dates back to 16th Century but is warm and cosy inside. Bar staff are really friendly and the food is always good. Gluten free fish and chips are excellent and come in 2 sizes (essentially Cod and Whale). Well worth a small detour to visit and since we found it we haven’t bothered to go back to the original place

The cleanest place I’ve ever stayed in!! The toilets in the pub itself were absolutely immaculate and smelled like they were cleaned between every person, I’ve never seen a pub loo so clean EVER! The bar was cosy comfortable and again immaculate. The rooms are beautifully decorated with everything you could want/need and again SPOTLESS! The shower in the en-suite was so clean you’d think it was new, we were literally gobsmacked. The beds were so comfortable we slept like a dream. We had an evening meal which was absolutely delicious, we couldn’t fault anything. My broccoli was the best I’ve ever eaten and the slow roasted pork belly was melt in the mouth. I didn’t want my meal to end! The Manager and all his team are welcoming, friendly, attentive and efficient, again faultless. Breakfast was exactly what we needed the next day and finished our visit off perfectly. Loads of parking and wonderful terrace/garden/outdoor seating area. I would recommend The Coach and Horses to anyone and I really hope I’ll be able to visit again. A++++ 100/100 Perfection!

It was a treat to walk into this pub and be greeted (by a young woman called Donna) with a wide smile in these mask-wearing times. (It reached the eyes, so you knew that it was genuine). And so it continued. We were camping in the historic church nearby (yes! - St Katherine's, under the management of the Churches Conservation Trust) and called in to collect the key. Returned for a very pleasant supper - nothing fancy-schmansy, no gastropub specials, just a pub menu featuring generous portions of traditional favourites - prawn cocktail, steak, scampi and chips, etc.) served by very pleasant and attentive young women, including afore-mentioned Donna. We returned next morning for an abundant and generous breakfast - served with enthusiasm - once again by Donna. Bliss. This looks like a lovely pub - plenty of garden spaces, olde worlde bar and restaurant, and the cleanest loos I've seen in any pub since forever.Highly recommended. Would visit again if in the neighbourhood - and, since they also let rooms, might even make it a special trip.

Our first trip out post Covid Lockdown and we were not disappointed. We had a lovely welcome and shown straight to our pre booked table. A track and trace record was taken on the waitress' phone and our food order selected from a disposable menu. The whole place was immaculate having been redecorated during lock down. Our drinks were brought to table. This was my first hand pulled real ale pint and my wife's first seriously quaffable White Zinfandel. Our first real drinks since the end of February. Sublime! The menu was varied and the food was of this establishment's usual excellent standard. Freshly prepared promptly served, piping hot, good sized portions. Delicious. Our heart felt thanks to the Girls who serve and our Landlord Host. When told condiments were confined to cater pack sachets for hygiene reasons, my wife's disappointment was discretely noted by our waitress. A few minutes later a portion of the chef's hand crafted tartare sauce was brought to table. On another table a diner with gluten intolerance received a hand battered fish fillet made with gluten free flour. Such attention to detail. Thank you Coach and Horses for such caring hospitality.

We recently called in at the Coach and Horses on a Sunday afternoon. It was too late for lunch but we were happy to stay just for drinks and ended up having a friendly chat with a couple of local old boys in the small bar, which had less than 10 seats . The rest of the building was split into three rooms for dining. The restaurant was still busy and there were plenty of enthusiastic young boys and girls serving. The barman was unsmiling and for a moment I thought we were back in Prague !There was also an outdoor terrace with an alcove for smokers, and the car park has plenty of space. There were a couple of cask ales available ( Loddon and Abingdon Bridge ) but I went for the Cotswolds Pale Ale from Hook Norton which was OK.Overall, a pleasant afternoon

Wheelchairs users please note the following: The Coach & Horse has quite small rooms which we found difficult to negotiate. We were help by some regulars. Thanks, fellas! The big bonus was the food was served on very hot plates. We had pork in mushroom sauce with plenty of vegetables which is highly recommended. Another had lamb shank which fell off the bone. Very well presented and absolutely delicious. Don't miss out on the Eton mess that was a real large treat. Not especially cheat but well worth the visit. After booking a table a few days before I, and my parents, arrived on a December Thursday lunchtime. the place was full and busy with one party of 16 enjoying themselves. However, we enjoyed fast, friendly, efficient service and super food. Three mains, two puddings, drinks and coffee for £60. Bargain!

Competitively priced, excellent food. Fastest order to service ever experienced in a pub. Lovely village pub ambiance. Happily revisit when in the area.

We stopped here for lunch on Wednesday. The pub is full of character with stone walls and stone and wooden floors. It has a rustic appearance. There were several people dining, a couple of people had their dogs with them. There were several specials to choose from on a chalkboard. My husband had pheasant and I had braised steak. Both dishes were delicious, piping hot with a good selection of veg served in individual dishes. The prices were not excessive either, considering the size and quality of the meals. The coffee to follow wasn't good. It was far too strong, and the flat white which I ordered was not as I would have expected. A minor issue though!!!

This was an impromptu visit after travelling back from Oxford and need for a roast beef lunch. Staff were very friendly in accommodating us and were seated and served promptly. The food was a very high standard and the roast beef was very tender and generous portion. The interior is lovely and befitting for the style of pub/restaurant. The menu had an excellent choice of dishes and the staff were attentive. Can't fault a thing and hope to be back very soon when we are in the area.

Contours Holidays booked this inn for us for 2 nights during out walking holiday. The rooms are set around a little yard with tables outside the inn, but it's just a few steps to the restaurant. People will sit outside, having a drink right outside your door, but after 10 pm or so it's quiet. The beds are excellent, room and bathroom big enough, tea and coffee making facilities. It's a popular pub/restaurant (book a table!), that doesn't pretend to be anything else than it is; a nice and friendly place to have pint, eat a meal and enjoy a comfortable evening. There's plenty to pick from, some nice (local) beers on tap, the staf has to work hard but manages to stay very friendly and alert.Breakfast is excellent; plenty to pick from, all fresh and plenty of it. Again staf is very busy, but still friendly and as a guest you don't get rushed at all.We asked for packed lunches to take along on our walks, to which we got a bit puzzled reaction, but it wasn't a problem. It turned out to be a bit basic; ham/cheese sandwich, bag of crisps and the water we requested was a glass bottle. Next day they'd apparently processes our request, and we were informed we'd get a 'proper lunch' this time, and now we got a sandwich with ham, tomato, watercress and mustard, a package of mixed crackers with separately 2 cheeses and a little bag of relish, grapes, fresh mango to go with the crisps and water, all in a convenient paper bag and paper napkins. It was a real treat!

We stayed at the Coach &Horses for a weekend visit and the food was just amazing!! Delicious grilled mackerel fillets with orange & watercress salad, seared Scallops with crisp pancetta and pea purée. 10oz Ribeye steak and fillet of hake with crayfish sauce all cooked to perfection. Thank you to all the staff for the fantastic attention to detail and service was spot on. We all enjoyed the evening dining outside and catching up with family. Many thanks Dave

A nice meal ruined by accidently sprinkling wicker lamp oil over chips which I thought was white vinegar. This is a hazard waiting to happen. Lamp was not lit so looked like white vinegar. Waitress said has happened before. Only replaced chips when asked to do so. Felt could have been bit more helpful and good meal was ruined as could smell spilt oil .
