My friend and I decided to try lunch somewhere we have never been before. We chose The Leathern Bottle in Lewknor and we was pleasantly surprised. Service was lovely, restaurant had a nice little buzz to it and food was nice. We will definitely be returning.

Lovely traditional pub in a quiet location. Atmosphere is what you’d expect coming into a traditional pub, very welcoming and homely. Service was excellent, friendly faces and smiles all round. Food was excellent and was served promptly. No bookings for food, however there is ample space. On site parking is pretty small so be aware when visiting in busy periods. We stumbled upon this pub when we went to the Cairn Terrier dog show in the village hall…. What a find. Super friendly staff and though we originally intended to just have a drink the food looked so nice we stayed for lunch. The crispy duck salad was excellent and substantial as were the tempura prawns. Our dog was made very welcome with water and treats. We will definitely return and do some of the walks on the web site.

A truly superb pub in a great location. Proper beer (Young's Special), kept really well which was so tasty I had a few more pints. Choosing food was really tough as I wanted pretty much everything on the menu. I chose the fish and chips with mushy peas and it was just as I'd hoped: crunchy batter, beautiful piece of fish and excellent chips. The apple crumble and custard was just as my mum used to make and super yummy 😋😋😋 All in all a great afternoon in Lewknor. This place has it all: brilliant beer, fabulous food, lovely locals, a gorgeous garden, and the staff couldn't have been more friendly and helpful. At a time when pubs are struggling, this place does it right. It was nice to meet the landlord and landlady before we left to say thank you I've just been back to the pub after voting today, and it's now even better if that's possible Highly recommended 11/10

A lovely pub in a stunning part of the Chilterns Ideal as a stop after walking down the quiet country lanes or in the nearby countryside (although it is very close to M40) The service was excellent with a really friendly and helpful lady serving at the bar. There is a good sized car park and parking on the quiet country road outside The food was typical pub food (fish and chips, cheeseburger (Wagyu) beef madras) It was well cooked and very tasty. The salt & pepper squid starter was nice and my friends smoked haddock with cheese sauce and mash was excellent. I would highly recommend this pub as it is conveniently located, with great food and very good prices (£16-18 for a main) and very friendly service

Delighted to say this is our new local as moved into the area late November 2023. Found it by accident as it's nicely tucked away and it is a cracker of a pub. Wonderful service - Brakspears ale -keeps husband happy, good Malbec for me and a roaring fire. Food is so good............just disappointed they only really do lamb for Sunday lunch which neither of us like..........but, loads of other choices on Sunday anyway........their cream of cauliflower soup is delicious, their haddock with mash and leeks in a cheese sauce - amazing, their steak & ale pie is so good and so flavoursome..............I could go on! The apple crumble and custard went down a treat with his second pint! We've been 3 or 4 times and on trip 3 the owner acknowledged us with a wave and friendly 'hello' - that's very impressive and most appreciated. Dogs allowed by the way. You can't book, you just turn up and hope for the best but it is absolutely worth the trip. Wonderful staff - everyone jolly and chatty - just love this place!

This is an old Brakspear's pub in a quiet village, but very close to the M40 Junction 6. Brakspear, the pub company, split from the brewery many years ago, but the Leathern Bottle still includes the excellent Brakspear Gravity, currently brewed in Witney, amongst its three ale offerings. Sadly, Carlberg-Marston's has recently announced the closure of the brewery in Witney, a very ill-informed and short-sighted decision, in my opinion. No doubt they will continue to produce a beer branded 'Brakspear' in Burton or Wolverhampton, but it is unlikely the unique brewing process and recipe will be exactly replicated. However, I digress - rant over - back to the pub; it's been many years since I last visited, almost certainly it was the last century, but it has changed little inside. There are two separate characterful bars with wooden beams - very much the archetypal country pub, which Brakspear's is famous for. Hanging from the beams is a multitude of racecourse passes, collected over many years. The menu is fairly straightforward, you aren't going to find anything really exciting on it, but the food is all freshly prepared and exceptional quality. Staff are friendly and welcoming and the service is very good. There's a decent beer garden to the front of the pub. The car park isn't huge but, if full, it shouldn't be difficult to find street parking nearby.

Lovely pub and staff and restaurant was busy with people having full meals. However we were on a long walk and only wanted a sandwich. They were very nice baguettes and came with a small portion of chips and salad. However we did feel that £34.00 for 2 baguettes (£12.00 each) and 2 pints was more than a little steep!!! Cost of living and all that. Shame.

Very strict with rules, and not very nice or mannerly with enforcement. Staff was rude from the very first interaction. It escalated to the extent I felt I had no choice but to ask my entire group to leave, and so we all left, within 10 minutes of arrival, leaving our drinks. It was a birthday occasion which made it worse. I experienced the opposite of customer service; it was more like customer-hating behaviour. We decided on Sunday morning to try the Red Lion for lunch, and booked a table for 1330. We arrived and were met by efficient staff who were expecting us and offered us a choice of table. Drinks were ordered from a knowledgeable waiter and arrived quickly, mine being a very well-kept pint from tge local Amwell Springs brewery. We both chose beef from an extremely well thought-out menu which again arrived after only a short wait. The meat was beautifully cooked and presented on a large plate with very well cooked greens, carrots and a freshly-made Yorkshire puddings. Sides of cauliflower cheese and roast potatoes were excellent, probably the best roasties I've had, and the horseradish was similarly delicious. We both cleared our plates and the side dishes. Utterly gorgeous, go and see for yourself.
