Lovely atmosphere, had to wait a bit too long for someone to take our order (had to stop someone after waiting a sufficient amount of time) and waited an hour for our Sunday lunch but after the wait the food and choice was excellent, we will be back

Nice looking and cosy inside on a chill ( cold) end of October day. #feels like 8Ā° Checked beforehand and the web site says Dog Friendly! Itā€™s not! You can sit outside in all weather on rotting wooden benches with your pooch if you want! No room inside anyway! Only stayed to finish drinks and left! If your only Dog Friendly outside you should say so.

Lovely meal, beer and fire in a proper Lakeland Pub. Both had steak and ale pie which was great. Sticky Toffee Pudding was excellent. Price reasonable for this area.

Booked for Saturday dinner. Got to the restaurant only to find it had been closed for months. They kept sending us reminders about our booking as well. Disgraceful.

I will try and keep this review constructive and balanced Disappointing unremarkable meal for 2. Have eaten here previously several times but the menu has changed to a more traditional style- which was uninspiring and overpriced. Pub grub can still be home cooked and tasty.. We were the only diners on a Saturday evening ( 1 other table of 2 did arrive) I ordered steak. ā€˜medium rareā€™ it came out ā€˜very well doneā€™ .. sent it back .. came back ā€˜rare/ blueā€™ ā€¦ so I gave upā€¦ shouldnā€™t be that difficult to cook a steak correctly. Whilst I was waiting for my steak to be redone my partner had chicken & sweet chilli pizza which was soggy and bland . ( mostly eaten alone while I was waiting) We had already paid when ordering and no reduction offered ( would rather have had a decent meal) Didnā€™t bother with dessert and sad to say we wonā€™t return. Waiting staff were pleasant

I traveled from Colorado, USA to the London for work and I had the opportunity to bring along my father with me. He was born in the UK and as we were planning various things to do, he had reminisced about going down to the coast as a child to play in the arcades and eating the best fish and chips. As he was telling me about his childhood, I knew immediately I wanted to relive it with him. We were able to catch a quick train to Brighton from London and on the trip down I started to do my research on finding a great place to eat our lunch and landed on Captainā€™s. A great place right on the water by the pier. After my dad and I played in the arcade on the pier and bought Brighton Rock candy to enjoy on the trip back to London we headed over to Captainā€™s. As we walked in, we were happily greeted and brought to our table. We both ordered the Fish and Chipā€™s and I got an extra side of fried scampi. To drink, my dad got a coke and I went for the Brixton Brewery West Coast IPA. Our drinks came right away, and I have to say the Brixton IPA was great! This is coming from a guy living in Colorado beer country. After some chatting between my dad and I our cooked to order meal came out. The batter used at Captainā€™s is from a 35-year-old secret recipe and only the highest quality fish and locally sourced potatoes are used. I knew I was in for something good. As we took our first bites it was evident we found the right place. The fish was perfectly fried. The outside was crisp, not crunchy and the fish was tender, moist and delicious on the inside. The chips were cut the exact right length, fried golden brown with excellent crisp on the outside and the precise balance of fluffy on the inside. I was super happy about ordered the scampi too as that was a nice extra treat. We even got an extra basket of chips on the house to top us off! The wait staff and Pam were superb! All took the time to speak with us and really made this a great experience for me and my dad reliving his youth. I can understand why it was so memorable for him and now thanks to Captainā€™s and their crew it has become an everlasting memory for me too! I will be back with my children soon and highly recommend this great establishment. Cheers!

This place is traditional. The food is very good. The one thing that absolutely is refreshing is the positive friendly customer service. The young staff are probably all under 21 however their attention to detail and care for the customers is 10/10. This is from an ex restaurant owner of many years. We will be back for sure. Well done all involved. Paul and Kully

Best eggs Florentine ever. Poached eggs were perfectly cooked, husbands English breakfast was piping hot with great quality sausage. Nicely done.

The atmosphere, ambience, lighting and staff experience was everything we expected, greeted and seated in good time, comfortable seating and good furnishings. The starters arrived in good time, and were enjoyed by all. The mains, in general were fine, however there where corners cut, in particular instant mash potatoes and gravy granules on the roast dinners, which seemed a shame when there must have been an abundance of meat juices available. Deserts were fine. Never judge a book by it's cover. Average at best. Wont be back. We were guilty of not speaking out after the meal.
