The best restaurants serving British food in England

Favourite pub in Bury, food and booze was always great. Edit:Such a shame it closed :(

I played two games of chess with one of the regulars, winning the first, but losing the second. Diplomatically, we kept it at that. However, it was the beginning of a long conversation with a whole host of lovely York people, laughing with nice music in the background and fresh pints strewn about. I would love to become a regular here.

Enjoyed a very good meal here tonight. Classic British food, particularly excellent pies. Tried steak and kidney, steak and Stilton, steak and Guinness and Bangers and cheddar mash. Food was great but spoilt slightly by being swamped in an, albeit good, gravy. It would have been nice to have the choice of the gravy in a jug on the side to pour it where and how much you wanted, hence the 4 rather than a five rating which it would have otherwise been. Starters were interesting and varied, soufflé a little stodgy but garlic mushrooms on toast in a Madeira sauce and French onion soup were great. Shared a generous cheeseboard of 4 good cheeses between two which was good value. Would have been nice if the cheeses had rested out of the fridge for a while before they were served as the soft cheeses were a bit hard. Overall though with 2 bottles of wine, a beer and a port, good value at £183 for 4. Service was excellent and attentive; we will definitely visit again.

Disappointing breakfast. There was no way to accommodate any changes from the set menu - only taking items off the plate but still charging full price. Tried to contact the management to raise our issue but not even a response! Not the best experience or food in this part of the island - wouldn’t recommend and we won’t be back.

Five of us went on Mother’s Day for a roast dinner. The food was very good although two of the party reported slightly firm roast potatoes. We sat inside where the service and atmosphere were good. Haven’t been here for over 30 years and it’s still a great pub.

We were at the Swan last night and felt like we were at home in the living room from the start. Great atmosphere, Andy did a great job (thx Andy 🤟) and we were full too. Lovely evening in a great atmosphere...

We had been to another pub close by and had heard good things about the pear so we went in for coffee on our way home. We had never been into the pear even though we have lived in the area for 27 years. The staff were welcoming and the pub and gardens were a pleasant surprise. On first impressions we would return to eat.

Great pub for food and drinks in a great location. Is my go to place when around this area. Never been disappointed, and well priced.

This place is an absolute gem and if you love history, smugglers and intrigued as well as lovely staff and unbelievably delicious food then this is your place. We had salmon and tenderloin pork and both meals were fantastic. We were shown some of the historic features of the building whilst we waited for our meals and we thoroughly enjoyed our time. It was my birthday and I couldn't have spent it in a better place. Highly recommended restaurant but you need to book.

Food was very good! The burger was done really well and tasted amazing. The service was quick and very good as well. The place is small and busy which gives it a great atmosphere. Highly recommended!

Really lovely food, the pie was homemade. We went on a lunchtime but not sure if there was a specific lunch time menu. The wine was £8.90 for a large glass which I think is expensive and a pint of Pepsi is £4.00 a glass.

Harvesters at Amesbury is always welcoming and has the family vibe. Kali was amazing and reminded us to download the app so we can take advantage of the 50% off mains :) She was pleasant from the beginning to the end.

Absolutely scrumptious fish and chips. The batter is maize-free. I'm allergic to maize and corn so I must check. Most chippies use corn, but to my delight, maize-free! And really delicious! Chips cooked in beef dripping, has a lovely depth of flavour. I came here on a day trip from Norwich Over 60's special is excellent value for money: cod, chips, mushy peas (there's a choice), and tea or coffee. I asked for decaf and was given this. A really lovely meal. When you compare I paid £7.30 for a latte and a date slice in a cafe in Norwich, you'll agree this is fantastic and if you're on a low income like me, you'll leave feeling even more satisfied because you've had a super hot satisfying meal!

Myself and my friend love this restaurant so much. :) we haven't been out together in a long while but absolutely love it here and have been to the restaurant lots of times over the years. We were not disappointed on this visit either. We didn't book although every table was nearly in use they still managed to fit us in. :) great service I can't recommend it here enough. :) The chicken supreme was amazing as was the Thai green curry that my friend had. Thanks so much again all. We hope to be back very soon.

The pub is welcoming and instantly comfortable with a really nice interior. The Staff are very attentive and professional. The food was fantastic the black pudding starters was by far the best and would highly recommend, the portions are generous the food is amazing and again the service was exceptional. Would highly recommend this place .
