I had dinner here ordering their prix fixe menu with my partner. The wait staff are very nice and the food is tasty (though not extraordinary) and beautifully presented. In addition, there are a number of "free" amuse bouche items provided. However, the portion sizes from this menu are tiny. I'd say the portions are like tapas rather than a meal that will satisfy your hunger. But what really burnt my bunions was that when the bill arrived, it included a £1 charge for charity. I choose my own charities voluntarily and do not expect to be pickpocketed in a fancy, overpriced restaurant. If the owners want, they can donate to charity out of their pockets without imposing this on me with a sneaky addition to the bill. I believe it's inappropriate for a restaurant to sneak this on the bill, which would result in an embarrassing confrontation with the wait staff over it. I want to be asked to optoin rather than requiring me to opt-out. In addition, the bill had a 15% service charge, which, on top of their inflated prices and their £1 charity addition, really dented my wallet. A 12.5% service charge is the norm in London. 15% is ridiculous. There was no mention of the charity extortion or inflated service charge up front. No wonder they're closing the restaurant down. Even if they stayed open I'd never go back.

This is an upscale restaurant in Kensington. We had no trouble getting a last minute reservation on a Tuesday night, although it was almost full. Service was great. The menu is quite limited-we had the selection of three courses. All really good, although the main courses were actually no bigger than the first course, so I would have left hungry is not for the cheese course (which was both excellent and abundant). The ceviche and the venison were both amazing. Other courses all quite good (maybe the mushroom tart the least so). They also had a nice wine list, with decent wines by the glass. I would definitely go back, although given the size of the portions, the 7 course tasting is probably best if you are hungry!

Overall a very nice place. Food was consistently good, specially the celeriac and the egg soldiers. The least impressive dish was the venison which had little flavour and was not too tender. The wine choices were also good. Disappointed the high service charge at 15%

Tasting menu and wine flight were faultless, had a great night. Only thing is the mojito was not good, we had it remade and still bad, no sugar , tasted like limey water. Other than that highly recommended.

As a seasoned restaurant fanatic, who has resided in this fair city since 1992, it is beyond me why Launceston Place has heretofore remained beneath my radar! We visited on Saturday for shared birthdays and to say we were impressed seriously underplays our experience. From the fun and tactile Phyllis menu to the original and supremely executed food, Launceston Place has charmed us into putting this on our regular rotation. On our way home, we were forced to resort to "name your least favourite course"—and even then we struggled. This was an easy five stars in all categories, because the service was friendly, polite and not intrusive; the ambience was warm and calm with a buzzy undervibe; the food was ambitious and perfect in presentation and flavour; and it was incredibly good value for £42 for three courses, plus an amuse bouche, phenomenal bread and whipped butter, and petits fours. And no one batted an eye when we were all done and then decided to have cheese! I can't believe I was able to get a table at but a month's notice. Launceston Place deserves to have a three-month waiting list. That said, perhaps I should delete this review and keep all this to myself! Thank you to the spectacular team at Launceston Place. See you again soon.

What a delightful restaurant. Came for lunch for my dad’s birthday. The setting is just superb. Light and airy and in lovely part of London, tucked away from the hustle and bustle. The food was absolutely stunning. I had the sea bass to start, which is one of the best ceviche dishes I’ve ever had. The beef main (short rib and fillet) was equally stunning. The service was just as fab. We were very well looked after from start to finish by the attentive staff. Thank you for looking after us. This is a great find and I’m sure we will be back.

I went to this restaurant on Wednesday August 28th 2024. I had the 3 course menu which was imaginative and fun. The portion sizes were perfect and I left the restaurant feeling satisfied and as though I had a good meal. The Amuse Bouche were delicious and tantalising. My starter was Ceviche. The mains was a delicately flavoured Monkfish which just slipped down my throat. My desert was a strawberry mousse which was so awe inspiring in its look that I did not want to eat it. The meal was washed down by a couple of glasses of their finest Chablis.

This restaurant is wonderful. My friend and I were celebrating our big birthdays. We had a lovely warm welcome and were given a choice of tables-all equally well situated and spaced for discretion. We dined using a Red Letter voucher which wasn’t quite accurate as the set menu had changed, but it was accommodated anyway without fuss. We had the summer menu which was chequers themed and presented accordingly on a type of chequers game board from which we could reveal our choices. Much fun! Each course was beautifully presented and tasted sublime. All the food looked and sounded so good it was difficult to make a choice and I’m sure it all tasted wonderful. The portion sizes were small but adequate and filling. The dishes were imaginative and tasty. The staff were very friendly and professional. We felt very much at home. The restaurant is beautiful inside and out with a feeling of being welcomed to dine at friends’ lovely home. A great restaurant for a special occasion. Thanks you for making our day special

Everything is perfect at Launceton Place: food of the very highest quality and imaginativeness (is that a word?), a wonderful quiet tucked away corner of one of the most lovely neighborhoods in London, the most attentive service...what more could one ask? I really hate going to restaurants where the food doesn't end up being cooked as well as I could do it myself. But I love going to a place where I know I can trust the chef to do interesting things and to trust, even when the combination seems odd, that it will be good because I know the chef has good judgment. This is that kind of place, and we loved it. I wish I lived in Kensington and could go here once a week for dinner. Failing that, I'll just make sure we go every time we are in London.

I recently had the pleasure of dining at Launceston Place, and once again, the experience exceed all expectations. This my second visit, and I was truly impressed by how the menu continues to evolve, showcasing Chef Ben's relentless dedication to his craft. Food always imaginative and playfully presented and savouries especially are equally substantiated by tastiness. Potato puffs always good, red pepper butter and sourdough bread, cod in broth ( can’t understand why delicious broth not poured out completely into diner’s dish). Dessert was a beautifully presented yuzu mousse encased in white chocolate made to resemble a lemon and stuffed with finely diced apple. Citrus notes less pronounced and mousse didn’t like rays of sun through sky light. Apple flavour a tad lost. Mini choux buns with coffee very nice indeed. Service quiet and attentive. Excellent when still dining. After paying bill no cheery goodbyes, although restaurant getting busy by 2pm, both well trained enough to notice departing guests. Despite living abroad I am a returning customer and look forward to when Launceston Place under current chef gains its Michelin stars if they would like them and not everyone would.

We had one of the best dinners we have ever had at the launceston place! We ordered the “Taste of summer menu” that allowed us to choose 3 courses and came with a gin&tonic. The second we entered the restaurant we were met by the friendly waitress and bartender/sommelier who were both excellent and kind throughout the whole dinner with attention to details and were very competent. They knew all about both the courses and the wine and presented it well and they even folded our napkins when we went the washroom. Despite that there were no wine pairing for the menu that we chose, the sommelier were kind to make one for us. The food and wine was excellent and well paired, beautifully decorated and presented and were very tastefull while also being and experimental and different from other food experiences. Even the way we chose our courses was innovative, fun and interactive. We are definetly comming back the next time we are visiting London!

Our friends booked Launceston Place for the four of us and this was one of three restaurants we had selected as places to go to in the last year. The food was delicious and quirky with a few twists. The service was okay not great and I can see why the restaurant has lost its Michelin stars if this was indeed the reason for the loss. There didn’t seem to be enough staff and guests standing up and talking to other diners and whilst I accept the need to talk it was in a cramped area and the person knocked over a bottle of water at the table next to us. They should have been asked to sit down. I had champagne poured in my wine glass and my friend spotted it as I was talking to our friends and whilst an apology was provided there was no immediate ’this is what we will do to resolve’ we had to then ask when we ordered another bottle of wine to see what the remedy would be and it was sorted but surely we shouldn’t have to ask given we are paying for the wine and champagne and we lost a glass of each. Anyway, pleased we visited and hopefully next time the service will be much better. Garmin was the only person that provided the most attention and pleasure manner.

If you are looking for a cost-effective yet delicious restaurant in London, I definitely recommend this place🌟 ➰Those who feel burdened by long courses ➰Those who do not like a very calm and quiet atmosphere ➰Those who want a casual dress code I want to move around while traveling, but it's not easy to get dressed... If the meal time is too long, there are times when the day becomes shorter and I feel sad. But the dress code here is casual (wear sneakers) and the sunlight comes into the restaurant so it has a comfortable atmosphere☺️ I visited around August 2023, and I remember that the total cost for two people, including a glass of champagne, was about 150,000 won. It's not very expensive, but you can feel the care put into each and every dish, and it all tastes really good. It's not just okay, but it's delicious (really) 💗For the main course, there was cod or other fish, and I thought I was eating scallops.. It was plump and savory👍🏻 💗Be sure to try the cheese, even if it costs extra. 💗The butter and bread were perfect, better than expected. Looking at the review now, it feels like the food is better than when I went(?), but there were quite a lot of people, so I would recommend making a reservation at least 3-4 weeks in advance :)

We have eaten at this restaurant for years, but our latest visit was disappointing. They now seem to emphasize cost cutting over customer satisfaction. We ordered an expensive wine pairing, but the pouring sizes were the stingiest we have ever seen at a restaurant with these aspirations. “Penny wise and pound foolish” is how I would term it. Most fine dining restaurants would notice when we are low, and top it off. Not this place, which seems to measure pouring size with a microscope, to minimize costs. The wine pairings are definitely a ripoff. We would have been far better off ordering wine by the glass, getting more what we really like, at a far lower price.

Where do you go in London with so many great restaurants to chose from. There's two reasons why here was our choice. The first, was it's within walking distance of the hotel we were staying at. The main reason was the head chef Ben Murphy We have followed Bens career for many years, way before he had any tattoos. He only won National Chef of the year 2023 The Craft Guild of Chefs & previously Young National Chef. We set off on our walk through the beautiful Kensington Gardens and just a few steps from there you come to Launceston Place Restaurant . Located on one of the most picturesque (and most expensive) streets in London. It's famed for being the late Princess Diana's favourite restaurant. Once seated in the simple and minimalist dining room with tables dressed in white linen, you are presented with a checkerboard.Which contains 12 plastic discs, as you lift each one off a menu item is revealed below, creating your order. We chose the tasting menu. We're not going to go through every course but will highlight a few that stood out for us both. From the snacks, a perfect start was a delious bowl of Smoked Eel,granny smith, liver parfait. Egg & Soldiers, presented on an egg cup standing on a duck leg was an eggshell scooped out and filled with chicken liver parfait, accompanied by a slightly toasted sourdough soldier. Celeriac on a mint ragout which was smothered with copious amounts of pecorino by the server at the table. Fish course was a fresh tasting Monkfish, Lemongrass & Asparagus with a pouring of Chicken Jus. Meat dish of Duck, purple beetroot, radish, timur and on the side a lovely crispy Pont Neuf chip. Followed by a cheese course,a pre dessert and two beautifully presented and very filling desserts. For us dining out is more about who is in the kitchen more than the restaurant itself. Because the food is the most important part of dining out and if you know there's a great chef in charge you're certain to have a meal to remember. It was,and along with the very helpful and professional front of house team we shall remember our visit for years to come.

What an amazing experience! I have been here first time, and had the chef’s tasting menu with wine pairing, loved all the courses, each plate was very delicious. The service was spotless, thanks for James for explaining the menu choices from beginning, and special thanks for Mattia for looking after us well all the night through. Can’t recommend enough this place for any kind of occasion, one of my best experiences so far!

We last visited in 2008 and the service and food were impeccable. The chestnut soup was a highlight of their menu.

Possibly one of the best lunches I’ve had in quite awhile. Service was excellent and the novelty of the menu and how you made your selection was superb. Presentation of each dish was so well thought out, which added to the sublime flavour of ever dish. Totally recommend a visit you will not regret it.

A memorable experience. Stunning food and presentation with fabulous flavours. The wine pairing added to the food and balanced each mouth full. Highly recommended.

Fabulous evening, food, wine, surroundings all excellent. £86 automatic service charge a bit of a shock 😳 I would have thought having food brought to your table was included 🤣 would have been happy to leave a tip as overall experience was lovely

The prawn salad was phenomenal and well presented. The beef was has an enormous serving portion, cooked to order and perfectly juicy. The atmosphere was very posh- there was live jazz music and a singer

We arrived early and had a friendly welcome. Having sat down it was clearly apparent there was a change of staff, roughly 3pm. Our first server I’m guessing was checking off, no interest at all, next server was fair but never saw again, all in all 6 different servers, not one the same on any time coming to the table so no continuity, very little interest except for the lady towards the end. We had pork belly ribs to start, amazing, nice salad with it. The. Between three we had a 1kg porterhouse plus two fries mushrooms mac and cheese and drinks. The steak was excellent but I felt the portions were all very small for the cost of the food. Not good value for money. But this is London. After one dessert it came to just shy of £250. I was really looking forward to this meal but felt very let down. A shame and will be hard pushed to return. I feel there are better restaurants serving quality food for more value. Sorry

We both had the pie & mash bowl with 1/2 beef gravy & 1/2 “liquor” (a greenish gravy) & we loved it. The owner was very personable and proud of the reputation she’s built over the decades. It was the best local fare we had in London and also the most affordable meal during our stay. But bring CASH. No cards are accepted.
