The Master Fryer in Portsmouth

I have never ever taken their food due to a halal issue. As a delivery driver, I found them very cordially.

Love this place. The best fish and chips in portsmouth. Large portions and food always fresh and tasty. Staff are great too.

Food was lukewarm warm and quite greasy but as far as Pompey chippys go, was manageable.

My family And I eat here regularly and enjoy the food,service and friendly banter. I also organise supper dances on a monthly basis at St Mark's Community church Hall Derby Road North End for all age groups and everyone is delighted with The Master Fryers Food. Highly Recommended. We dine in,take away and have delivery. Service is second to none,Owners and Staff are absolutely Wonderful 👍

the driver went 5 miles in the opposite direction from me, it finally got to me 45 minutes late so food was stone cold

Simply the best fish and chips in Portsmouth, and I would dare to say in the whole South Coast. An authentic British experience. I had heard from many people that Master Fryer was something else, and it was a ‘see to believe’ situation. When I was ordering, the lady taking the order asked me if it was for a single person or to share, listen to her. I took medium fish and medium chips, it was enough to put a strong man to sleep, and believe me, I eat a lot. The fish had an excellent taste, the batter was amazing and bubbly, and the chips were something else, it was a mountain of them, exquisite and crunchy. If someone ever asks me which fish and chips in England is the best, Master Fryer will always be my answer. I’m going to leave a picture of the food itself, and one with my hand as a reference (I’m a tall guy, so take that into account)

Great quality fish and chips, plus friendly service just 3 minutes from the ferry terminal exit. Selling cream soda was an added plus! Set us up perfectly for our onward journey. We'll be back!

Chips could have been more crispy but edible ... Curry Sauce was tasty to eat ... I would use this company again but for a different order ... perhaps some free food and large portions could give you a 5* ...

Missing items from order. Driver wouldn’t help and told us to ring the shop. We did, to be dealt with disgustingly. Terrible customer service. Would not resend anything and accused the driver of stealing the items. On top, food that did turn up was inedible.

Usually the food is excellent but sadly it was greasy this time. Simply dumping into the paper just resulted in greasy wrapping and did little to absorb the excess. We were disappointed ☹️

Very nice freshly cooked fish and chips and friendly service. Nice crisp batter on the fish and well cooked chips. Good portion sizes and decent value. Medium cod, small chips and mushy peas cost £10.50. Nice to have the option to eat in with a plate and a proper knife and fork for the same cost as takeaway, and the food tasted all the better for being served up directly after being cooked.

always used Master Fryer but last 2 times everything has been so greasy so looking elsewhere now for fish and chips

My food was not delivered! I did not prefer collection as I live far away and do not have transport! I was advised by the owner to use Just Eat and when I phoned to complain that I ordered delivery he swore at me! He used the F word several times whilst on speaker phone in Front of my 9 year old child! I cannot find a phone number to speak to Just Eat but he is insisting that this is a Just Eat issue. Please help me! I have spent £40.60 on a meal that was not delivered and not collected because I can’t collect! I am disgusted with the treatment from the owner of this business. Ordered medium cod and small chips from The Master Fryer and the portion was very reasonable. As always the fish is perfectly done...light and crispy batter and so tasty..you get a lot of chips for a small portion and done to perfection. Highly recommend. soggy and very oily, I have reviewed this before and am quite disappointed to be saying the same thing. the fish was clearly not allowed to drain/dry off before wrapping, it was literally swimming in cooking oil when unwrapped. This left the batter soggy and tasting of cooking oil also overcooked fish ,not nice.

Phoned my order was told 15 minutes and it was waiting for me all freshly cooked very friendly staff great all round service. You won't get better tasting fish and chips 😋

Well priced and the fish was lovely taste. But the food is definitely missing some love for sure! The batter was not great, it was soggy and also the chips were a little under done. The atmosphere was pretty bleak. Not saying it needed to be a disco in there but for that huge team behind that counter there was no chatter or sign of a smile from anyone.

Delicious and tasty; obviously freshly cooked. Delivery charge of £4.25 was surprisingly expensive and had I been aware of this beforehand I might not necessarily hae ordered.

Delivery time drifted by 20 minutes but food was excellent so wait was forgiven.

I am an 80yr old disabled person and the meal I ordered was for a rare family visit. The delivery driver was unable to find my address for some unknown reason. he claimed he was in king william st but couldnt see caroline square, newish building well signed etc. I kept telling him the directions and he even asked me to come outside and look for him which I did and he was nowhere to be seen. By now I was becoming very upset. eventually he rang to say he was outside the building but couldnt work out the simple entry system. luckily one of the carers in my block was able to let him in., by now my meal was luke warm and had to be reheated. I will be very reluctant to place an order with you again as other take aways have no problems finding my address.

I was really hoping this chippy would be nice as we have never tried it before- it has exceeded our expectations!! Food was perfect, perfectly cooked, perfect portions and piping hot. Really nice touch with the kids meals getting a lollipop and gift. We will definitely make this a favourite place to go too. Prices are great too. Thank you so much master fryer for a great meal

I received this order however on the 3/4 the order was accepted and money taken and then cancelled. I have emailed numerous times and still waiting on a refund please beware and I will now not use just eat again

Pleased on the whole with the exception of the fritters that were stuck to their wrappers and lost most of the batter as a result.

Great grub again 10/10 BUT a bit uncool of driver to buzz and leave my food on the floor, hard work when in a wheelchair.

I find The Master Fryer does the best fish and chips in Portsmouth . Excellent Fish and the batter is so crispy and you can eat every bit of it, nothing to go in the bin. Try it you wont be disappointed!!

This is the first time I have had food delivered and the last .The food was cold I normally collect and walk back home which takes 10 minutes and it is warmer than tonight's I have used the Master Chippy for a very long time but won't use takeaway again Sorry Bossman

Food was cold and late, just kept moving the delivery time. Second time this has happened - won’t be ordering again.

i ordered this at 18.15. it was delivered at 19.45 by a very unapologetic courier. The food was lovely but cold. This shop already owes me items that have been missing from previous orders but i have had no recompense. Unfortunately i don't think I'll be using The Master Fryer or this courier service again despite the food being lovely.

I haven't ordered from here before, the meal was lovely and delivered on time and piping hot. The only slight issue I have with all takeaways is that the portion of chips is enormous and three quarters go to waste, I really wish they would do smaller portion s. I will definitely be ordering from here again though.

Ordered my food at 7:39 and I have only just received it, nearly 2 hours after I placed the order. Went to the shop after about an hour and a half and they said it has been collected by the driver. I went home and still it had not been delivered. When it finally arrived the food is just about warm. A very disappointing service and food is not very enjoyable when just about warm. I could only select an hour late as that was the highest it went too but should be 2 hours late totally unsatisfactory
