The Master Fryer in Portsmouth

great food , great price , brilliant value .

The master fryer is the best chippy in Portsmouth and it goes against the grain to moan. But upon arrival, food was stone cold. Probably more to do with delivery route or detours than the Master fryer.

In my opinion the best chippy on the island. Gorgeous food and quick service can't be beat. I would highly recommend coming in if you're a fan of good food.

The food was fresh and delicious, as always. The delivery arrived early, which made me even more satisfied. The delivery driver was a friendly and polite man. Overall, I am very pleased with the food and everything else. This is without a doubt my favourite Fish and chips shop in the entire country. Thank you :)

When I ordered it said 25-35 minutes. The food took 85 minutes.

Great quality food, the only downside was the poor delivery driver wasn’t able to find our address but the excellent facilities on the just eat app made it super easy to communicate with the driver and get our order sorted

One piece of fish seemed more like plaice than cod. OAP portion seems to have got mush smaller than previously but overall tasty and well prepared

Took an hour and 20mins from order to delivery. Timing pushed back and back and food was lukewarm when arrived. often very good service but frustrating long tonight.

My food was late it was rank the curry sauce was watery the fish was mushy and not nice I wouldn’t feed to an animal let alone a human I won’t be ordering from this restaurant and wasting my money any time soon

It's the first time I have ordered from this chippy. I loved the quality and the delivery driver was cheerful. The delivery price was a bit steep, but as it saved me cooking, it was worth it. I will order again if my usual chippy is closed.

some the chips were overcooked (brownedall over) others where undercooked hard potato still sausage in batter was dry /stale wasn't enjoyable at all

This order never arrived. Notification to say it had been delivered but it definitely was not. Clearly delivered to wrong address and did not ask them for the code. No point in having codes if not used

Food is excellent as always. The delivery man however needs to read the order notes

Fish and batter was good, the chips not so great, the curry sauce was very watery with almost no flavour.

Delivery driver was very friendly and professional.

Food was ok....but delivery rider was slow, I could of walked it over quicker.

I only use this shope the food is very good and being as we are both getting our pensions the ptice is a great price.

Really disappointing. I’d heard great things and was really looking forward to my fish and chips and had them delivered. The chips weren’t just cold, they were wet from condensation. The batter on the fish was crisp but there was too much batter on too little fish.

The usual great food I’ve come to expect from The Master Fryer. 10 minutes early but I was pleased with that! I highly recommend this chippy!

Kept changing delivery time even when driver was in his way. The portion was tiny and the food was cold.

We spotted this Fish & Chip shop from the top deck of the 700 bus and there was a queue so I said to friend we would give it a try , my word am I glad we have found this place , great fresh Fish & Chips cooked to order , hot and very tasty , friendly staff with other items on the menu .

We are visiting from France and it’s been a few years since eating our nations dish so I’d been craving fish and chips all day! Lovely friendly fish shop, large cod cooked to order, delicious light batter and not greasy at all, they also let us eat in and made us feel very welcome, thank you xxx

the chips and curry sauce "large" was offensively small I'd hate to see what they consider small the curry sauce was watery and tasteless as for the rest of the order it was as much oil and grease as it was food only positive thing i can say is the batter was good

Worst food ever . Packed curry sauce when everywhere in the bag . Poor chips and soggy and cold . Gave me a plan chicken burger. Which it says online it comes with sauce. Then talking to.a rude staff and manager . Who didn't care and called me a lier. Sausages was shocking and dry . 36 pounds worth of food in the bin .aviod this place as it gone down hill . I've used this place for 15 years and the owner was nice and really good . Now it must have changed hands or something. Will never come here again .

fish and chips was great. nice and crispy batter . pea fritter was tasty. only disappointment was curry sauce, which was very runny , like soup. was first visit, quality was very good so will order again.

I have never ever taken their food due to a halal issue. As a delivery driver, I found them very cordially.

Batter was soft and undercooked, the chips were also undercooked both with excess fat that more than ten pieces of quality kitchen roll didn't absorb.

If we can't get to the Master Fryer ourselves we have no problem ordering from Just Eat. We never use any other fish and chip shop! Quality, fresh, tasty food, every time, guaranteed!

My family And I eat here regularly and enjoy the food,service and friendly banter. I also organise supper dances on a monthly basis at St Mark's Community church Hall Derby Road North End for all age groups and everyone is delighted with The Master Fryers Food. Highly Recommended. We dine in,take away and have delivery. Service is second to none,Owners and Staff are absolutely Wonderful 👍

Simply the best fish and chips in Portsmouth, and I would dare to say in the whole South Coast. An authentic British experience. I had heard from many people that Master Fryer was something else, and it was a ‘see to believe’ situation. When I was ordering, the lady taking the order asked me if it was for a single person or to share, listen to her. I took medium fish and medium chips, it was enough to put a strong man to sleep, and believe me, I eat a lot. The fish had an excellent taste, the batter was amazing and bubbly, and the chips were something else, it was a mountain of them, exquisite and crunchy. If someone ever asks me which fish and chips in England is the best, Master Fryer will always be my answer. I’m going to leave a picture of the food itself, and one with my hand as a reference (I’m a tall guy, so take that into account)

Great quality fish and chips, plus friendly service just 3 minutes from the ferry terminal exit. Selling cream soda was an added plus! Set us up perfectly for our onward journey. We'll be back!

Delivery driver was fantastic in awe that food advertised doesn't state if its suitable for vegetarians or if its Halal - Absolutely shocked that the cod in this shop is haram.

Chips could have been more crispy but edible ... Curry Sauce was tasty to eat ... I would use this company again but for a different order ... perhaps some free food and large portions could give you a 5* ...

Usually the food is excellent but sadly it was greasy this time. Simply dumping into the paper just resulted in greasy wrapping and did little to absorb the excess. We were disappointed ☹️

Missing items from order. Driver wouldn’t help and told us to ring the shop. We did, to be dealt with disgustingly. Terrible customer service. Would not resend anything and accused the driver of stealing the items. On top, food that did turn up was inedible.

Very nice freshly cooked fish and chips and friendly service. Nice crisp batter on the fish and well cooked chips. Good portion sizes and decent value. Medium cod, small chips and mushy peas cost £10.50. Nice to have the option to eat in with a plate and a proper knife and fork for the same cost as takeaway, and the food tasted all the better for being served up directly after being cooked.

always used Master Fryer but last 2 times everything has been so greasy so looking elsewhere now for fish and chips

My food was not delivered! I did not prefer collection as I live far away and do not have transport! I was advised by the owner to use Just Eat and when I phoned to complain that I ordered delivery he swore at me! He used the F word several times whilst on speaker phone in Front of my 9 year old child! I cannot find a phone number to speak to Just Eat but he is insisting that this is a Just Eat issue. Please help me! I have spent £40.60 on a meal that was not delivered and not collected because I can’t collect! I am disgusted with the treatment from the owner of this business. I look forward to hearing from you very soon. Thank you.
