Captain's Table in Portsmouth

Food was excellent, just the right sized portions and reasonably priced. We had the 2 course menu, Miso soup, followed by tempura King prawn with vegetables and rice, just delicious.

The dining room is a beautiful place, very tastefully done in a traditional look. The hostess was very patient in allowing us to choose from three different menus for lunch. She was friendly and kind. We had salmon bento and sushi and very good Asian salads. I would go there often if I lived nearby.

Had a wonderful lunch at the restaurant inside Keppels Head Hotel- we did a very mishmashed international order with both the sushi rolls and the Sunday roast, but it all sounded so good it was hard to not try a bit of everything. The food was indeed fantastic, some of the most tender roast beef I've had in a while and really umami sushi rolls (the volcano one in particular was awesome)! I also can't not mention the decor: beautiful victorian ceilings and big windows facing the port. Would definitely come again, 10/10

Great lunch offers for £9.80. They do a mix of English and Japanese food, I had Tonkatsu ramen which I really enjoyed. They do their own spin on the ramen, so it featured more British ingredients like broccoli (not something I ever had in ramen in Japan), and if you're familiar with Japanese cuisine, sourcing local ingredients is really important, which I appreciate more than just straight up copying a recipe. The pork was fantastic as it had a hint of sweet glaze on it and I preferred it over the cuts of pork that is usually in tonkatsu.

Amazing! Amazing! Amazing! I have been to this restaurant twice now and it has been amazing both times! The Japanese food is the best I've had and the staff are very friendly and attentive! Can't recommend highly enough!

Lovely dining room, Japanese sushi and other dishes nicely presented. Volcano Uramaki with eel was delicious. Eel fried rice and sushi sashimi were also excellent.

The menu said pork chop with potato wedges, pickled cabbage, asparagus and a honey and sambuca sauce. What I actually got was a pork chop with coin sized pieces of something that had been roasted until it was burnt and chewy, cabbage out of a jar, frozen asparagus that had been microwaved to death and a gravy boat of watered down English mustard. My other half had burger and very soggy 'tripple cooked' chips, that would be microwaved chips.

Food is lovely but thats it, and the dining room is classic and has some charm. Although next to the restaurant is a night club which is very annoying when having your dinner. Just too loud and bothering. Service was slow and unprofessional, but the food is good in any way. I don‘t recommend this place if you wan‘t to have a calm dinner.

Awful, history of the building is disappearing, now all about sushi. Bar drinks dreadful gloopy warm coke, dull inviting area, historic photos area a mismatch and not loved.

We had a late lunch here. The Food and service was first class. Food pipping hot, fresh and very tasty! Would recommend to anyone :)

Maybe the biggest hidden gem in South England. There is a traditional English menu, as well as a new Japanese menu The food is exquisitely cooked, and the service is excellent. All very reasonably priced I would highly recommend

My wife and I were glad we celebrated our 1st Wedding Anniversary here. The food is amazing at a reasonable price. The crews are friendly and the ambience is so soothing.

We have really enjoyed our meal here. Everything was cooked beautifully and the staff are lovely!! I would recommend this restaurant to anyone.

Not sure why this place was so unoccupied, the food was delicious. The starter fish cakes were fantastic, and the tartar sauce was so incredibly flavorful. The main entrees were also great- the duck leg was decadent and the steak was perfectly cooked medium rare. The duck has rich mango, sweet potato, and savory duck plus savory onions and chili oil. Complex and intense. The steak was perfectly seasoned and flanked by a wild mushroom mix that left nothing to be desired. For desert the chocolate mousse was rich and accompanied with almond cookies and fresh fruit. Sam the chef is excellent and anyone wanting food should go for the multiple course meal. highly recommend

One of the best restaurant in Portsmouth. This is one of my home to home place. The kitchen has been renovated recently. The new dishes were undoubtedly successful. I opted for the chefs recommended -the duck. The presentation was a work of art with the dark cooker the to profession juicy inside and crisp outsiide. The mango reduction gave the dish an wonderful exotic twist. The bust of sweetness that complemented the rich flavour of the meat beautifully. The dish was accompaniment by some roasted sweet potato and some seasonal salad. It gave a satisfying balance and fulfillment. Definitely will go back and have more!

The dining room had a feel of grandeur with its bright white walls with gold cornice and elegant lighting. The white tablecloths were pristine. I had curried cauliflower soup, then some of the best fish and chips I've ever had.

Really good communication beforehand, food was excellent quality and with a variety of starters, mains and desserts at our table, nothing but compliments to flavours on offer. Service was excellent. Strongly recommend for groups & parties.

Loved food (fish & chips and “fried” chicken), music (Beethoven), and the decor. Look up Admiral Keppel. (He went around the world with Commodore Anson in the early 18th century.)

The dessert was a delight! The coffee tasted like was from a petrol station coffee machine! Not fresh grounded probably! The room very elegant! Even there wasn't proper linen on tables! Stunning top restaurant quality food at very affordable prices , various options for 1, 2 or 3 courses to suit your hunger or budget. The portions are perfectly sized and the taste experience is exceptional. I went for the 2 course option and tried the Cod in batter, with triple cooked chips, mushy peas and tartare sauce, the taste of the food was fantastic. For desert I fancied the Sticky toffee pudding, which tasted even better than it looked, every bite a taste sensation.

Service was good, but food wasn't, roast potatoes were hard, and tasted like they had been reheated from a different day, this was Sunday roast, don't know if the other food would be better, but wouldn't go again.

Excellent food and amazing service at a very reasonable price We couldn’t get a reservation anywhere in the area but luckily stumbled across this place and went straight in for an excellent meal
