Since the last review we have finally stayed a night on their package, been to a paired wine tasting menu night (very good) and yesterday went (possibly for the first time) for lunch. It's as good as ever. The set lunch menu is amazing value as well as tasting great. Thanks all. PREVIOUS REVIEW; Long term fans. Almost 10 years in fact - they're approaching that anniversary of having opened. Somewhere for a very nice meal out. Definitely not pub food (not that there's anything wrong with good pub food, I'm very keen), it's a place for special occasion or a treat.

We visited the hotel to stay for a wedding that was nearby, and were so happy we stayed here sight unseen. It was a cosy place with the friendliest staff, had a great nights sleep and a lovely breakfast. Highly recommend!

2nd visit in December for Christmas celebrations but this time lunch. The Xmas set menu offers a good selection of dishes offering plenty off choice for multiple visits. All the food choices for our party were excellent and service was also excellent as always. The restaurant was busy this lunchtime and this made the place lively providing a good ambience for lunch Thanks for a great lunch and the wonderful meals we have had over the last 12 months. Will be back in 2025

Visited for a Christmas ladies night out as I do every year, and chose to visit Le Bouchon after a recommendation from a client of mine..... safe to say I will NOT be passing this recommendation along! For a 300 year old site, the staff aren't half YOUNG. A young gent behind the bar was incredibly loud during our visit and seemed to be at work for more pleasure than business. Very disappointed by the atmosphere however the food itself wasn't too bad.

Food was nice, service good. Unfortunately there was a power outage in the area (very strong winds were the cause). Delayed our food for a very long time. Two of our party had ordered steak. This was delivered to us just about warm, that was a great shame. It was not the restaurants fault for the outage, but to serve food warm after waiting so long, unjustified. We did not complain at the time as time was getting on to be too late to eat. In saying all that, the service was impeccable. The ambiance was wonderful. We will definitely return.

Birthday celebration with immediate family. 1st time visitor. Lovely setting, great service, great food. Slightly limited menu which I’m guessing is seasonally adjusted as the Menu was titled ‘Decembers Menu’ or words to that effect. Thoroughly recommend and will be going back

Our son has cheffed in commercial kitchens and knows fine food, so when we asked him to recommend a venue for my wife’s 60th birthday lunch, Le Bouchon was top of his list. We discussed our requirements with Le Bouchon and nothing was too much trouble, they were extremely helpful and flexible. Having had a trial lunch, served by Emma, we asked for her to look after us at my wife’s birthday lunch. On the day, the food and service were flawless, proving a hit with all of our guests. Special thanks to Emma, who went above and beyond. Highly recommended. We will be back!

Wow what an absolutely amazing experience, we were a party of five and each of us agreed how amazing the food was. The venue itself is really lovely and the staff are all superb, they were polite, professional and genuinely lovely.

We had a fabulous welcome from the staff who were perfect. The food was delicious - not cheap but worthy of the price. the atmosphere, ambience and decor in the bar and restaurant are super and the festive decorations were lovely.

It was our first time at Le Bouchon and it was amazing, the atmosphere was fantastic from the minute we sat down in the bar area, we weren’t rushed to go to our table, the waiters were amazing. The food was exceptional, to be honest my husband wasn’t overly looking forward to going as he thought the portions would be small but he was pleasantly surprised. We thoroughly enjoyed the whole evening, the food was fabulous, the service amazing, atmosphere just right. We will be returning.

Lovely food friendly staff. Did ave a problem with a request for no chillies because of any allergy. Although no chill was served the olives had been marinated in chillies. More care needs to be taken with the requests. Overall a nice evening and will return

What a brilliant surprise to find such fine dining so close to home (we live in Tolleshunt Major). The staff were welcoming, helpful (without hovering) and knowledgeable regarding the menu and allergens. The gentleman, who I assume was the Maître D’, opened our champagne in true professional style as in the Champagne Houses in Reims and Epernay. The food was a pure delight, meticulously prepared, presented and each item cooked to perfection. The food was so good that I had to ask one of the waiters to thank the chef and to buy him a drink on my behalf at the end of the evening (chefs do not often get the recognition that they deserve). I can thoroughly recommend this restaurant, especially for a special occasion. George Schnitzer

We came for afternoon tea. The food was tasty but what let the experience down was the service - we had to make numerous requests for milk to go with tea (cold milk), extra teaspoons for cream and jam

Disappointing start as we waited for around 10 minutes at the front of house with seemingly no staff. We were initially lead to a table close to the entrance (where there was now quite a queue). Also, booking was for 5 however only 4 places had been laid. We requested a different table which was dealt with promptly and politely. From this point onwards service increased greatly. Very polite and friendly waiter dealt with us all evening and we couldn't fault him. Food was delicious! Despite the false start we would still visit again and would still recommend to others.

My wife and I went to celebrate her birthday and decided on this restaurant after reading very positive reviews and have to say we were not disappointed. We were warmly greeted and immediately seated. The waiting staff were all fantastic. Friendly and attentive without being too pushy. We have been in some restaurants where the staff ‘hover’, almost feels like they’re listening to our conversation. The staff here were brilliant from start to finish. The food was outstanding, cooked to perfection. I highly recommend the Beef fillet. We had a three course meal and a bottle of wine and have to say it was great value and the place itself is lovely. All in all would highly recommend this restaurant and will definitely be going back.

We chose to have food from the French Classic menu. The cost for 3 courses is £26. The food was excellent, good size portions, excellent value for money. The service, as always, was very attentive and friendly.

Went for my son's birthday. We had the tasting menu, which was amazing. Always happy whenever we go.

Overall it was a very enjoyable experience marred slightly but what seems a slightly petty attitude with regard to of all things gravy and cabbage. When ordering our food which was roast beef etc we noted that the meal was accompanied by seasonal vegetables which were stated as carrots, cauliflower and cabbage. Of the three my wife remarked that she didn’t like cauliflower and cabbage and was there an alternative and suggested perhaps some peas. This was agreed as possible however when the vegetables were brought to the table the cabbage which I like was missing substituted by the peas. This may have been a misunderstanding as we actually expected a small portion of peas added to the meal not instead of. However as we had noted that should you wish for some extra gravy there was and extra £2 charge which led us to feel it was rather petty and took the edge off a very nice meal.

Our son has been raving about Le Bouchon for a couple of years, so when we were looking for a venue to hold a lunch for my wife’s 60th birthday, we thought we’d take the plunge. Lunch today was a warm up for the main event. We decided to have the fixed price French Classics menu. Pork terrine to start, which was excellent. My wife loved her Tuna Niçoise salad and my grilled pork with sauté potatoes was very good. What really made our lunch though, was our waitress Emma. We have rarely experienced such warm and professional service. Nothing was too much trouble. Highly recommended. Roll on November and my wife’s birthday lunch!

Amazing evening celebrating our wedding anniversary. We took the cruise on the restaurant's own boat before dinner for an hour. A lovely way to start the evening with drinks on the river. Had the taster menu which was delicious as ever. It's so fantastic to go somewhere that offers not only great food but also a good nonalcoholic drinks menu

Lovely, friendly hotel in a convenient location. Only reason for not giving it 5 stars was a bit of noise from the road, which quietens right down at night. The rooms are lovely, ours (room 2) was newly decorated/refurbished, so that was especially nice. The only snag was, it was hot like an oven in there and despite the lovely lady at reception fetching a second fan, the temperature was crazy hot. There's no ventilation in the bathroom other than a tiny built-in fan. I appreciate this would only be a problem on particularly hot days and you could always ask for a room with aircon (there are a few we learnt), I know we will! Service was outstanding, the staff couldn't be more obliging, frequent top up of water and ice etc. Nice breakfast (aircon in restaurant, so that was nice). Just a bit of nit-picking.. The brand new shower was beautiful and worked really well, but you got a bit wet turning it on as it wasn't accessible any other way 😅 (and especially as the first time you're working out which side turns it on etc). Also, the toilet flush was very stiff to press.. But don't let these little things put you off. We still slept well despite the heat (both fans on full), the bed was very good. 💗

We had a lovely stay at Le Bouchon. Staff were unbelievably attentive from our first call to book to the very last moment we were checking out. The hotel itself, in isolation, has a homely French Georgian feel to it. Bar area has a comfy vibe with some French stuff going on. Freddie behind the bar made us several tasty cocktails, including a recommended Popcorn sour.... which was interesting. Lovely chap Freddie. Daniel, James and all the staff were very professional, helpful and polite. We had the River trip picnic on our first night. Very chilled. Reasonably priced for a bit of serenity and chill. We also enjoyed a few drinks outside the front of the hotel, under the shade. We had the taster menu on the second night... food was delicious, but not sure the wine pairing was worth it. Either way, it was all presented well and with enthusiasm. I suppose location was the biggest surprise... kind of in the middle of an industrial estate. That's not to say you shouldn't go and enjoy.... you absolutely should. But the views aren't great. And if you're just there for evening drinks, bite to eat, sleep over and breakie, it's fine. But you do need to stretch your legs to get up to Maldon proper and down to the Quayside... which is well worth it. We enjoyed the pub across the road, the Muddy Duck about 10 mins away on the River's edge and the walk down to the pubs on Maldon quayside. We really enjoyed our stay but dropped 1 star for location v price.

Staff is very nice and excellent service

The food was very underwhelming. Under cooked beef with one strip of chip and no vegetables. We had to pay extra for carrots. £60 for the main meal was staggering. Very small portions of starters that again could have been out of a tin was also very disappointing. Don’t even mention the cheese and biscuits. Almost £15 for a few slices of thin cheese!! And even thinner biscuits… Wine, beer and service staff very good though. Overall £137 for a meal for 2 that was effectively worth about £20. We shall not be visiting again and will not be recommending at all. I will write to the manager to formally register my complete dissatisfaction.

The food and service at Le Bouchon is always excellent. The ambience is normally calm, quiet and classy. We like to arrive early and have a drink in the comfortable bar area, though on the most recent occasion there was a noisy group waiting for a private event and we moved early to our table. Le Bouchon is an occasional treat for us as it is not cheap, but is a favourite for a special occasion - or, in the recent case, with a special visitor.

We tried out their bottomless prosecco brunch and it didn't disappoint!! From the moment we sat down to the moment our 2 hour time slot finished our glass wasn't empty :) Absolutely worth the money. We both had the steak sandwich and it was delicious. Daniel looked after us while we were there and you couldn't fault him. We'll definitely be back!!

Fantastic hotel with super friendly and professional staff. Everyone was welcoming and provided an efficient service. The bedroom was clean and well furnished and lots of great choices for breakfast. Stayed 1 night whilst at a wedding in the area, but will definitely visit again.

I love this place. The food is excellent. Went for a roast dinner a couple of Sundays ago and even though I'm vegetarian, I love a roast dinner, minus the meat! I rang and asked Le Bouchon if they had anything veggie to go with the roast and at first the answer wasn't very positive, but Claire the receptionist said she would let the kitchen know that I would be dining. She phoned back about 5 mins later and said they would whip up a nut roast for me. Amazing service and the best nut roast I've ever had. All our food was gorgeous and me and my friend were literally scraping our plates clean 😄 My favourite restaurant 💕

Our lunch was very good. Quite a small menu - we prefer it that way. We were looked after very well by our waitress Emma. As it was our anniversary we were given a card signed by all of the staff and a glass of bubbly each - a very nice touch.
