Ferry Boat Inn in Maldon

Having been a few times before I have to say was disappointed with the menu this time. Was very basic pub food and the cost was high compared to others. The food was well cooked however. Limited choices and expensive. Service was great and staff friendly but won't be rushing back

Another enjoyable meal at the Ferry Boat Inn. Very good food, good service. Booked on-line earlier in the day, happy to find not particularly busy on this Monday evening. Wish they would accept cash.

We booked to take visiting friends to the Inn for Monday lunch because many places are not open or serving food and also because we know the food is high quality. Our friends loved the place and we all enjoyed the food. We had fish & chips, the daily pie special (steak 8 mushroom), bangers, mash & ham, and egg & chips. All the meals were great and washed down with a beer or two. Will definitely return. I really like the way they have extended the building and it’s lovely to sit in the sunny main bar.

Great pub with a wonderful atmosphere, food was very good, especially the fish and chips , staff were always attentive.

Our first visit and we were very impressed. Warm and friendly welcome, authentic oldy-worldy dining room felt like a private dining experience. Attentive and pleasant waiting staff with good knowledge of the menu but most importantly fantastic home made food! I had the special of king prawn and chorizo stew and it really was special! My partner had a veggie pie which again she believed was home made. We finished off with my favourite, Black Forest gateaux, which was a chefs interpretation and absolutely delicious. All this plus drinks for a little over £60, great value. Thank you to everyone, we will definitely be back. (My only suggestion would be to use a bigger font on the menu 😊)

Frequented this pub for many years but not been for a while and love the makeover. Still has its charm with a modern twist. Food was delicious. I had belly of pork with noodles, husband had scampi and chips, friend had pie, chips and vegetables and his wife had sea bass - fish of the day. Staff attentive and professional. We all loved our choices and the chips were amazing. Will definitely return for lunch again soon.

Unlike many other local eateries, they are open on a Monday for lunch. Service was very friendly and food was very good and reasonably priced. Can't ask for much more.

A very comfortable stay. Despite the pub being very busy we were helped to our rooms by a charming and kind manager . We were given a room suitable for dogs This was spotless with dog towels provided . After a great night sleep we were provided with a perfect breakfast . Our dog loved the walks near the inn .

We have known The FerryBoat Inn for over forty years as we used to live in the area in the early 1980's. The premises date back to the 16th century but in recent years a new section has been added very tastefully so that you move seamlessly from one area to the other. We occasionally drive a round trip of about two hundred miles just to have lunch there, sometimes by ourselves and sometimes with friends. This time, however, we had an important function to attend so decided to stay for the week end and also visit some of our 'old haunts'. We booked in for Dinner, bed and breakfast for three nights. There is a well stocked bar with four local ales and a local gin which my wife enjoyed each evening. I tried all of the local ales and although the Wherry was my favourite, they were all excellent. Equally the food was well prepared and cooked from a fairly comprehensive menu with VERY good sized portions. In fact, as we eat fairly late in the evening I almost struggled to finish the Full English Breakfast the next morning! The staff were are very friendly and helpful aswell. The only criticism that I have to make is that the room although very light and airy and modern was only serviced every three days. I'm not used to making my bed on holiday! A fridge in the room might be useful as although I could get small jugs of milk for morning tea/coffee from the bar, (which was fine at this time of year), I imagine that on a hot summers evening the milk might go off by the morning. I shall certainly stay there again next time we are visiting friends there. Jonathan.

My wife and spent an overnight stay at the Ferryboat Inn, with an evening meal & breakfast in the morning. The location was ideal for visiting some parts of Essex that many aren't familiar with. We visited RHS Hyde Hall, Battlesbridge Tide Mill & antiques barns (some buildings dating back to the 15th century. The Crouch & other rivers served as inland ports during medieval times and there are still many buildings that are listed and well worth a visit, including the Ferryboat Inn, North Fambridge.
