Awful dining experience using Groupon voucher. Food was not great, my Lamb Shank (which carried a £6 surcharge) had so little meat on it, it was like a kids meal, my cheese board (which attracted a £2 surcharge, had a smoked cheese, Red Leicester and Brie, no Cheddar, no blue cheese, and a terrible chutney, the cheese was presented like a stacked Jenga game. Trying to order wine was like a comedy show, most wine wines on wine list were not available due to “shortage of wine from our supplier” I don’t think so ! Menus were over used A4 paper copies. We were seated next to a door that connected the private event taking place adjacent to the Restaurant, really loud band were playing and to make matters worse, guests and staff were constantly using the door as a shortcut to the bar to purchase drinks, due to queues in the function suite walking past our table, and the volume of noise was so loud, not the ambiance we were anticipating for a nice evening meal with family. Service throughout the meal was sketchy at best with constant delays even though the restaurant was almost empty (not surprising given our experience) even though it was a lovely Friday summer evening which I think speaks volumes . We certainly will not be returning.

UPDATE . BOOKED A TABLE FOR TEN AGAIN FOR ANOTHER FAMILY GET TOGHER . ON THIS OCCASION IT WAS COMPLETELY DIFFERENT . ONLY US HERE AND ONE OTHER TABLE OF WHO CAME IN 10 MINUTES AFTER US . WE WAITED OVER 30 MINUTES FOR OUR STARTERS . THEN ANOTHER 40 MINUTES FOR THE FIRST COUPLE OF MEALS TO ARRIVE . TEN MINUTES LATER ANOTHER 3 MEALS ARRIVED ONE OF WHICH WAS A COMPLETELY WRONG ORDER . TEN MORE MINUTES FOR TWO MEALS. THEN ANOTHER TEN MINUTES FOR THE CORRECT ORDER OF STEAK ( £28 ) MEAL TO ARRIVE . THIS WAS PROMPTLY SENT BACK . THE STEAK WAS DISGUSTING AND TASTED FOUL . A REPLACEMENT WAS REFUSED by my son in lW AS TWO MORE MEALS WERE STILL OUTSTANDING . THESE ARRIVED WHEN MOST OF US WERE FINISHED EATING . THE TABLE OF FOUR CANCELLED THEIR MEALS BECAUSE THEY HAD BEEN WAITING 40 MINUTES AND LEFT . THE WAITRESS WERE DOING THEIR JOB WELL . THE CHEF SHOULD BE ASHAMED OF HIS PERFORMANCE . WOULD I GO AGAIN . DEFINITELY NOT OTHER MEALS HAD PROBLEMS INCLUDING A MEAT PIE THAT LOOKED LOVELY BUT CONTAIN FOR CUBES OF MEAT THEN FILLED WITH GRAVY . Had a Groupon deal to use, on the website it shows a lovely menu you can choose from. In reality we were handed a grubby A4 piece of paper with GROUPON menu. This incorporated of a cheap pub menu, lasagne, burger etc. We had driven 45 minutes to get to this venue only to be told no one else has complained about the menu I paid £50 for 2 It looks nice from pictures but outside grubby. Inside is very nice, Mr Singh the new proprietor sent a message and told us he would cancel the reservations. I’ve spent the last 3 weeks fighting to get my money refunded. Please note Groupon are still advertising the lovely menu. Ring direct to bull and willow and ask if it’s a normal menu before you part with money

What has happened to this wonderful restaurant, been coming here since David owned the Bull and transformed the building. Will give it another go but service and quality of food needs to be greatly improved. This is reflected on how quiet the restaurant is compared to previous occasions. Need also to remind customers about their language in other bar as it was offensive.

I came for a roast here about 6/7 years ago and it was to die for. I was in the area recently with friends looking to go somewhere for lunch, I remembered this place so we came here to eat. I don’t know if there has been a change in ownership or something but my recent experience nothing like I remembered. I remembered it being beautiful inside and out but now it looks tired and in need of some work in places (outside rendering), the four of us had food from the lunch menu. I feel there was a good variety of food on the menu but the menus were sticky, yucky and in dire need of a wipe down. Is it too much to wipe down the menus? When the food came it wasn’t nothing like I remembered, before I would have given it 8/10 but this time I would give it 4/10. For example I had the ham egg and chips, what I expected was thick carved gammon ham, perfectly cooked eggs and thick cut chips. What I actually got was thin package ham, eggs that had been slightly over cooked and in fairness the thick cut chips were good but it’s hard to f up chips. There wasn’t an abundance of beers on tap but there was still a good selection and if that doesn’t float your boat they do have bottles in the fridges. Overall I wasn’t impressed and I don’t think I’d be returning for food. I would come back for a drink as they has a nice seating area outside the pub but I’ll swerve the food.

Poor young man was on his own ,we ordered a coffee which was warm very strong and the milk was sour 😕 sad because it did used to be a great pub and food but will definitely not be going back ,and would not recommend it, I would imagine that it has changed hands to a person who doesn't have a clue ,the ladies room was not very clean ,push button flush was broke, and the dyson dryer was absolutely filthy inside ,toilet tissue holder broke !!!!!

Pros - very pretty and spacious, garden for the children and dogs to run about in, when asked they were able to rearrange our seating plan. Cons - when we told the bar staff one of our party is allergic to a specific ingredient they laughed and said "wow" which started off the experience wrong. We booked for 10 people and they gave us a table for 12+ in a U shape so we weren't actually able to talk to each other, but they agreed we could move some placements to sit together. There was no vegetarian roast, so I was feeling very awkward and aware that everyone else in my party could have a roast but I had to have salty pasta, pasta or cauliflower. The service was very slow, 2.5 hours for a 2 course meal. The deserts were not that tasty, it has a twinge of garlic or something similar which made it taste fowl. The toffee pudding was burnt and when we raised it the answer was "The customers normally like it" We won't be coming back.

We chose this restaurant because it is in between SWF and a SPA we visited to finish off a relaxing day. The Bull is nicely hidden in the country side. Once you are there you can sit outside facig a cricket ground which is a great way to start the evening, afew drinks and abit of local cricket. Once in the restaurant the staff are very happy to ask how you are an if you need anything more, it is young and very welcoming. We had a starter and mains, for starter the calamari was so different to what i am use to it was difficult to accept, but once i opened my mind to something different it was awesome! A really nice batter with a choriso and home made mayo combination which left you wanting more.. The mains, we had a lamb shank and fillet of pork, and wow, some how the mash potato with the shank was the star, just delicious, and the beetroot mash with the pork was outstanding. The lamb was so nice it didnt need the gravy, but the gravy was good enough to drink separately it was so full of flavour. We will be visiting again soon

Please don’t waste your time or money eating at this restaurant. The worst meal I have ever been served and the owner so rude and unapologetic. Vegetables (broccoli and carrots) were simply a mush, presumably boiled so long they barely resembled vegetables, steak pie contained numerous lumps of gristle and the rest of my parties food was barely edible. I left feeling sick from the little food I had managed to eat.

I’m not usually one to right a review but I do not want someone to waste their money on this restaurant, because the experience I and my family had was awful !! On arriving at the restaurant we noticed we were the only ones in the restaurant section. Which for 1900hrs on a Saturday seemed strange to start with. The bar next door was loud and busy. We were sat down at our table and given our menus. The menus are totally different from what is on the website. We ordered our food anyway. The food arrived and my lasagna was just mince covered in grilled cheese with hardly any pasta. The mince was swimming in an inch of oil and fat. It was absolutely disgusting and inedible. The steak was grey/brown in colour and had a horrible smell to it. The vegetables were boiled to death, they were soggy and mushy. The staff did not come over to the table without being asked. The manager was spoken to about the food and he refused to accept how bad it was, stating others had ordered the same with no issue. I find this hard to believe due to how bad the food was plus there was hardly anyone else in the restaurant. When we got the bill we were disgusted to see that they had automatically included service charge for a table of 4 who received no service at all and dreadful food. Unfortunately this is not the same restaurant as it was a few years ago. I would avoid it at all cost. Don’t waste your money. You will be disappointed.

We visited this pub once many years ago and it was so good, we thought we'd get another meal here. Booked through Groupon listed as "fine dining". After waiting a long time at the bar, another couple arrived and then a man. The barman obviously knew the man as he served him drinks first before seating us. There was only us and another couple in the eating part. There was formula 1 was blaring through from the bar area and it was very loud. Not good. The same barman gave us tatty looking menu's which were not the same as listed but we cracked on. The choice was poor for the price. But we managed to choose 3 courses. Drinks were reasonably priced. Starters were average, mine was missing a key part. I opted to pay extra for my main as I had few choices. Both mains were tasty but not fine dining. Dessert was poor. All was served by the same barman. The table leg was propped up with am old leaflet and the room needed redecorating soon. The toilet was not pleasant, the door was also propped open so could be seen from the bar area. I'm not sure why this has gone downhill so badly but I'm glad I didnt get too dressed up! As we left. the bar and outside space was full of guys drinking, so I guess this is the focus now? Would not recommend and will not be visiting again. It was a very expensive meal, even on a Groupon, for what it was.

On arrival there was only 1 member of staff present who had the task of serving in two bars and waiting on tables in restaurant as well as checking us in and showing to room , room was absolutely freezing cold as the heating was off for our visit , no organisation at breakfast had to literally walk round in an empty pub and shout up the stairs to find a Member of staff Such a shame has the potential to be a lovely venue.

I am sorry to report this restaurant has seriously declined. From once being our top go to place today’s experience was frankly awful. We weren’t shown to our table. Instead we were told it’s over there. Waitress had a poor attitude. Daughter specifically asked for no gravy on her meal which arrived with gravy. No apology. Linen strewn over the floor in the Willow Room. Food on our seats from a previous sitting. Beef tough as old boots with no flavour. Must have had a change of ownership. We remarked on arrival how few cars occupied the car park. There is clearly a reason for this. Just as well no gratuity was added to the bill. We will not be returning.

Wanted to go somewhere nice for Mothers Day this year at it was my daughters first one so we booked a table at The Bull. We were asked to pre order from the set menu which we did days in advance. We sat down at 3.30pm and were offered drinks straight away. Starters didn’t arrive for just over an hour. Even though we pre ordered we still had to wait a ridiculously long time for food. During this time we also had to try and flag someone down to order more drinks. After waiting over an hour for starters we then waited another hour for the mains, and when they did bring them out they were wrong, or they were trying to give us another tables order. Mentioned all this to the manager and she didn’t care. Then mentioned our dissatisfaction to the owner who didn’t care either. I am fully aware Mother’s Day is one of the busiest days of the year for restaurants but if they can’t cope with it then they shouldn’t book so many tables. Pre ordering the food should have made things quicker too. We were in there for over 3 hours. Would not recommend

Visited for Sunday lunch on recommendation from my brother who had visited a while ago. I think it has changed hands since. Very disappointed. 3 or 4 lagers on offer, only 1 beer (Neck Oil which is always too cold), not even any bottled beer, this is England NOT Europe. The meal was a major fail. Vegetables (served separate) were tepid, lamb was dry and tepid, beef was tepid and overdone. When this was pointed out hot gravy was offered. Serving staff were young but friendly. The lady in charge was not forthcoming when it was pointed out that the disabled toilet was difficult to get into as there was no outside handle. Her response was "If she's disabled she has been given a Radar key and can use that to pull the door open". Radar keys are not issued, you apply for them and it's difficult when you have a crutch or 2. Resorting to the Ladies facility her crutch slipped on the wet floor and she jarred herself on something. One saving factor was that the 'discretionary' 12.5% service charge was not levied. They're lucky we paid anything. Don't go there.

Overpriced Christmas Lunch. Thinking it was good quality I booked Christmas day lunch for myself and my daughter. What a disappointment. I was unaware that it had been taken over by new proprietors. The starters were good but the main course was supposed to be turkey and all the trimmings. However there were no trimmings the carrots were supposed to be glazed but we're just plain boiled. There were no parsnips or pigs in blankets nor was there any stuffing so I don't know what they meant by trimmings! The Brussels sprouts were bitter and had obviously been kept warm for a while. Desert was ok but nothing special and we were supposed to have petit fors with our tea/coffee but they didn't appear. The tea appeared with the milk already added and was insipid looking and very weak, surely they could supply milk in a jug so we could decide on the quantity we prefer. I have had many better Sunday lunches at other pubs and feel most aggrieved at paying £100 a head for a very mediocre meal. Not somewhere I would recommend. I also visited the toilets and was appalled to find the floor was flooded, there was no toilet paper and no soap. My daughter visited the ladies and it was exactly the same. Just not acceptable in this day and age

I would stay again if they could sort a number pf small issues. Important stuff first: The breakfast was lovely. I slept really well. However, the following made for a less than perfect stay: The bedroom was barely in range of the Wi-Fi. I had to use hot-spot on my phone in the window to make it reach the bed. The TV was smaller than most places in the £80-100 a night range. The shower had a good amount of mould in the sealant/grouting. Some of the tiles on the floor were loose. I arrived on the cusp of last orders on a Sunday, so perhaps that was why I didn't know some of these things like where to go for breakfast, where to check out etc. There are virtually no outdoor lights lit after dark. Just a little solar flame lamp. There are no signs telling you where to go anywhere on the site. A little TLC, a booklet in the room and maybe a torch would solve most issues.

Bedroom nicely decorated and comfortable, extra heating and fan available if needed. The walkway from the car park to the rooms is not lit up. Arrived back late from party, pitch black so had to park on the walkway, leave headlights on so that an elderly person could get to the room safely. This needs addressing. Perhaps provide smaller kettles in the rooms so that they can be filled up? The kettles are too big for the sink and angle of the tap, so you can't actually fill it. Teabags and coffee sachets provided but no milk, means that you've got to make sure that you're decent to go into the restaurant to ask for milk. Not ideal, please leave those little pots of uht milk in rooms or at least ask the guest if they'd like some when handing over keys. Delicious breakfast but I really didn't think much of the way the empty cups were carried to the table , the young man had his fingers inside the cup - not nice.

We stayed for a night during a cycling tour and the staff were very helpful in finding a place to accomodate our bike safely during our stay. Our room was clean, comfortable and quiet and breakfast was ok in the morning. We chose to eat in the restaurant on the evening of our stay and were happy that the chef made effort to make alternative dishes to suit our vegetarian diet as there was only one main course vegetarian option on the menu. There was one other person in the restaurant at the time we ordered yet the service was extremely slow. When our food arrived it was well presented and tasty. However, our whole evening was totally spoilt by the group of men who were drinking in the bar, which is separated by a door adjoining the mainbar and restaurant bar. These men were extremely loud and coarse and could not string a sentence together without using the 'F' word continuously... We ask if the door joining the 2 bars could be closed so we didn't have to hear it all, to be told this wasn't possible as the staff needed access. The staff must have said something to them after we complained, and they did quieten down a little, but they could still be heard behaving in the same manner and we felt this is something that should have been addressed and the staff be on top of it before we complained as it was not suitable language to be used in that environment. These were clearly regulars so cannot imagine it was a one off occasion so if you are thinking of staying here, think twice about spending the evening in the restaurant. So, what we had expected to be a nice evening turned into a evening that was spoilt and not the 'ambiance' you would expect from somewhere that praises itself so highly.

Mother’s Day shower of poo. Would give 0 stars if I could. Paid £60 deposit for Mother’s Day special deposit and pre ordered. Was concerned about accessibility as we have a medically fragile disabled child & frankly life is hard. Turned up for our 3.30 table. Had to go hunting for someone to seat us, who tried to say we hadn’t booked. She was telling a colleague that we said we’d booked and hadn’t and wouldn’t even look at me or my email confirmation and bank statement to prove I had. Anyway eventually they decided to find a table for us. There were at least 5 tables I could see that hadn’t been cleaned and one lady stood for half an hour waiting to get her receipt so she could go. We had to wheel our poorly child back outside, across a shingle car park and around to get to a table as they’d blocked the walkway with to quote the waiter- squeezing two extra tables in. My child had already been distraught as they kept walking past him with puddings and we had to ask for a snack to placate him. We sat down just after 4pm. They then came to back ask again at 4.10 if we’d preordered as they couldn’t find the orders. By 4.30 pm my child was now hysterical and overhot. I went to ask where the starters were. The waitress disappeared. 5 minutes later she came back and asked me a question about our orders which showed they still hadn’t found our order and had not even started to cook it. I asked for a refund, she wasn’t sure how much deposit I’d paid either. And we eventually left and got home 1 hour 45 minutes after we went there, having had no food, no apology no nothing. They’ve now deleted my comment on their Facebook page, and blocked me. The table behind us was booked for 3pm. They sat down after us and commented on my note that they’d left shortly after us because they’d not had any food either. Shame on you Great bull at totham for not only your cashing in on Mother’s Day and squeezing too many settings in and not having enough staff, but also for not apologising, and for blocking me on Facebook and deleting my comment. One very upset mumma of disabled child and nana on a day when it should have been a special chance to go out as a family for a treat. And one very distressed hungry 6.5 and 3 year olds.

A hidden gem, well not really hidden. We booked a room for a local wedding and you never know what to expect but WOW. Arrived a bit early but the room was ready and they let us in, then had a bar lunch - fantastic. Got up for breakfast the next morning and had a full English with unlimited hot drinks. This was not much more than a Travelodge but included breakfast. Thoroughly recommend.

Went to the Bull & Willows Friday 10 February for an evening out with my fella. We was pointed to sits and had to wait along time for some young lady to come to take our order all she wanted to do was to stay in the main bar and talk to people she knew. I left feeling down hearted as I wanted a lovely night out as we have hadn’t had one. Shame though we used to give this place five stars now a one well now have to find a new place to eat.

We booked a table for 11. There were dietary requirements where the incorrect dish was given and the wrong order delivered even though it had been read back when we asked the staff member blamed us and was rude and unprofessional.Very concerning as the food would have caused my daughter to be unwell. Part of meals came out and when the vegetables finally arrived the food was cold. One of our meals was totally forgotten and when we asked we were treated like an inconvenience. We were only asked once if we wanted drinks and even when we tried to ask were ignored. I spoke with the owner, who did apologise but did not really do anything to install confidence and tried to get us to go back. Why would we spend money where we were so clearly un welcome. There were a total of 4 other people across 2 tables whilst we were dining. Mistakes were also made with one of those tables whilst we were waiting for our food. We like to support local. On this occasion this was definatly the wrong choice. We would not return to a restaurant where dietary requirements are disregarded, where staff are rude and disrespectful and dismissive. Not recommended

Stayed over with a colleague last week on Tuesday as we had a survey in the area the following day. The food we had was actually pretty good and really enjoyed it. Breakfast was good too. The staff that we spoke with and saw were very polite, welcoming and nice to speak with. The WiFi was virtually non-existent and if you stay, make sure you ask for the password as it isn't stated anywhere in the rooms. The mattress was practically flat in my room and worn out so I think the cost was a bit exaggerated. However... It is now Friday, the week after my stay and I am STILL waiting for an invoice for my stay. I have emailed the business on their website and had no response. I rang twice last week. I have rang and spoken 4 times this week alone and had nothing back. I work all over the country and having to make calls, chase this up is not convenient at all for anybody. To the credit of Natalie and the morning staff that I have spoken with, they have always been polite and as helpful as they could be at that point and I do feel for them because every time I have rang it seems like they do what they have promised but the (assumed) owner has done NOTHING afterwards. I have spoken again this morning and as with all previous calls the lady I have spoken with has been very apologetic and explained that unfortunately she cannot help as she doesn't have access to invoicing. Again, I feel sorry for them as the people I have spoken with have been brilliant and professional but I can't help feeling they must be talking to a mannequin or at least feel like they are. Update: It's now Monday. Tomorrow will be 2 weeks and so far I have still had no invoice or response from the assumed owner in regard to my request, regardless of the amount of phonecalls OR this review being posted, edited and posted again.

I went in today and had to fish and chips. The fish was bright yellow it smelt off and tasted off. I sent it back and they told me it was fresh fish and it was nothing wrong with it. I eat fish every day and I know when Fish is off on the plus side, I ate two fries and I did taste okay I’m then lady came over, was the headwaiter and told me Fish smells like fish. Well anyone that eats fish, fresh knows fish does not smell like fish when fresh tastes of the sea I do not like leaving bad reviews, but this lady came over and made it a point that the fish was okay. If the fish was okay

I called to find out why and they stated because there was a leak, the manager was not apologetic whatsoever. We booked at the last minute on the longest day. Unfortunately we also had the longest wait for our food. Although the service was friendly and cheerful it was also very slow. I think they were understaffed as the one young lady was manning the bar and taking orders. Our starters arrived more than an hour after we sat down. My food was very tasty (whipped goats cheese stater and vegetarian risotto) but my husband was a little less delighted with his calamari starter though his steak main was nicely cooked.

We had lunch today for Father’s Day. Hadn’t been before. The food was good but the service was the worst we had seen in a long time. There was no management presence and the floor was run by young people. We were given our menus, 20 mins later the order was taken. We were given dessert menus and had to ask for our order to be taken which seemed at the time like it was an inconvenience by the look on her face. We asked for the bill and was told someone would be over to take payment, they never came. Our waitress was fairly friendly but the final staff member we interacted with was incredibly unfriendly and certainly not Someone that should be working in the hospitality industry. I work for a chain of 5 star hotels so I’m fairly relaxed normally when I go out as I understand the pressure of service time but this was awful. If you could see the staff rushing around then I think we would have understood but they were chatting at the bar a lot of time and had no knowledge of what was happening in the room around them. We would never return and sadly would tell others we know not to waste their money.

Wife had the granola and I had an Oakhouse breakfast. Both were fine, but my poached egg was very overdone. We'll still be back though. It was quite noisy in there too, as there was a table of 8 behind us of a couple of families and their very noisy young kids, complete with a tablet playing a loud kids TV show. Which was nice.

On the 5th October a group of us were booked for a meal at the Green Man: we had booked by email a few days before and the day before we phoned to confirm and change the numbers from 8 to 7. We were told that would be fine and no problem. On the day we arrived and were told they had no record of the booking because it wasn’t in the book. The bar staff said we couldn’t have booked by email or it would be in the book. We said we’d phoned the day before and were told that would be fine: the bar staff said we must have phoned the wrong number. We used the same phone and pressed redial: the staff said we should wait a moment as their phone was ringing. We pointed out that proved we’d used the right phone number: the bar staff said she’d no idea about that and we couldn’t have made a booking because it wasn’t in the book. Her attitude throughout our discussion was extremely off-hand, bordering on rude: she gave no hint of an apology and no indication of what could have gone wrong with their system for taking bookings. Even when we’d proved that we’d phoned the right number, she refused to accept that we’d contacted you at all and simply said you were too busy and couldn’t give us a meal. It was made very clear that she just wanted us to go away. Luckily we were able to make a booking on the spot for the King’s Head, who in complete contrast to the Green Man were very helpful & gave us an excellent meal. It is a great pity that their standard of service and politeness has deteriorated so much, since we as a group regularly sail to Burnham and have used the Green Man for many years; however we shall no longer trouble the Green Man with our custom since it is clearly not wanted.
