A delicious meal, generous portion sizes, in a very comfy pub. I just wish I’d checked how well cooked the lamb would be. It was very tender and the well cooked bits were delicious. The barn staff assured me it was supposed to be pink - I just suggest you ask if you prefer your red meat to be medium cooked rather than rare.

An excellent friendly welcome from this yachtie/locals pub in Bradwell Waterside. I went for the fresh haddock (caught today) with chips and salad. It was nothing short of divine in its beer batter. A very generous portion for the price, served exactly when I wanted it. I always look at the whole menu but always end up with this and it's always brilliant.

If you like chips then this is the place for you! The chicken burger is not even a burger - there is no side salad or slaw - and three small chicken strips stuck in a bun is the poorest value that I have ever had from this pub. Poor quality and a rip off.

Even in this barren and nautical corner of Essex the TOWIE effect can be clearly seen. All along the wild coast of the Blackwater estuary blackberries, sloes, redshanks and grey plovers rub shoulders with black stilettos, gold jewellery, white leather and tatts. The Green Man is sticking to his roots - a classic English pub to found in any village in any county town. It has a good choice of beers, several cosy rooms and wonderful staff. The Chef deserves a special mention. He served 12 of us a full Sunday roast within minutes of arriving. At first the speed of service rang warning bells. False alarm. The quality was excellent and each plate under a tenner. Look forward to coming back.

Lovely old pub, friendly staff. Nice area and garden. The portions are huge which I personally find quite off putting but some May like to get their moneys worth. The pie was nice enough flavour wise but the pastry was a little thick for me. Would have preferred sauces in bottles or dishes rather then the annoying sachets that you can’t ever open. Would go back if in the area and try a less filling dish, especially in the winter to see the fire going in the huge fireplace

I was visiting the area and berthed my yacht in the nearby Bradwell marina. The first day I went to the Marina bar and was very disappointed with he lack of variety and they were completely out of haddock. The next day myself and two friends found this amazingly friendly pub, The Green Man. There was a far better menu, the food was great and very reasonably priced. My friend had the cheek to ask for some salt for his boat as he had ran out and the bar maid came back with a full container of it from the kitchen! It was the last hot weekend in September and because the weather was so lovely, we decided to go out for Sunday lunch. Having pre-booked the night before, our table had been selected for us, however as it was so warm out, we decided to sit outside. Just as well as little did we know that would be our last opportunity to enjoy the summer sun. Although we do not live too far away, this was only the 2nd time that we had visited The Green Man pub in Bradwell after so many of our friends has told us about it. The welcome that you get as you walk through the door, friendly smiling landlady and bar staff is great. I really fancied a full on English Sunday roast, but by mistake I ordered the hog-roast which came in a bun. After explaining to the waitress my actual expectations, she said, "don't worry, let me see what chef can do" and without hesitation or extra waiting, a fresh plate of a full on English roast was brought out to me, and it was yummy. Fresh vegetables not over cooked, great portion sizes and very tasty too. I always believe that it's how an establishments rectifies errors, (by both customer and staff) that shows their worth, and they did not fail at all. I would honestly recommend The Green Man as a really nice, warm welcoming and relaxing place to have a drink or something to eat. Good service and great food. Social distancing was in place. The pub was running a one-way system so that customers were not colliding at the main entrance. Great idea. Looking forward to going again for another Sunday lunch.

After a long hot walk from St Peter's church along the sea wall, the Green Man was a welcome sight indeed. We had intended on eating in one of the other pubs in Bradwell after reading some of the negative reviews onTripAdvisor. On arriving at the Green Man we ordered a pint of Adnams Southwold lager and a pint of Guiness, both were excellent, the staff friendly; providing water for our dog on arrival. The food being served in the Public bar smelled delicious and being tired and famished after our walk we decided to eat here. 1 cod and chips, and 1 steak and kidney pudding later we were delighted that we had done so. The fish was cooked to perfection not dry or overdone. Steak and kidney pudding was large, stuffed with meat and had a rich very tasty gravy- Cracking! Desert, a Belgian waffle and Treacle pud topped off a great meal. Fantastic unpretentious food, just good cooking in a proper pub situated in a beautiful spot. Staff helpful and friendly, but not intrusive. We would definately recommend this place to people looking for the simple single fried chip and good pub grub. We only wished we had been staying the night so that we could have sampled more of the Adnams beers. Thank you

Our friend who we had taken out to lunch did not eat his pie as he was feeling unwell but he would have enjoyed it at any other time. Ham and chips with two eggs for me , haddock fish cakes for the others and everyone was pleased! The beer is always good and a wide selection of Adnams is on offer. Big garden, kids eating area. So.....enjoy!

Me and my family often come here to eat food and we are always satisfied. We order both in the pub and takeaway and we have always been happy with our order. The atmosphere within the pub is warm and welcoming and all the staff are friendly and will always welcome you with a smile. I can honestly say that i wouldn't go anywhere else to eat food

Having read other reviews on this page I really can't bring myself to agree with them. We have eaten here on several occasions and I really want this pub to be good but sadly I don't think the chef can cook! On our last outing here I opted for the special of honey roasted loin of bacon with creamed cabbage mushrooms and chips - sounded wonderful. I was presented with a huge lump of bacon about 3cm thick x 5cm long, over cooked and dry at one end and passable at the other this was covered with the "creamed cabbage" which was in fact boiled cabbage stirred into some cream and poured over the bacon. I was expecting something closer to creamed spinach rather than this. The mushrooms had clearly been cooked in butter and oil and on their own tasted quite nice but the overload of fats on my plate and the dry protein made this possibly one of the worst meals I have ever had. My husband opted for the catch of the day which was passable although the fish did drip quite a lot of oil onto the plate and he said the batter was a bit over cooked.Generally I can forgive one bad experience but as I said this is not the first, in the past I have sent odd tasting & odd coloured ham back from the ham egg and chips option and been offered burned beef burgers. Why do I keep going back? Partly because the beer is good, partly because it is a beautiful old Essex waterside pub, partly because the staff are generally friendly and there is a lovely atmosphere in the bar and partly because aside from the Marina club ( whose food is dreadful all of the time ) there is nowhere else to eat in this small hamlet. My advise would be to use the Green Man as a pub but if you intend to eat there don't raise your expectations too high.

On a bitterly cold winter's day, this pub was a gem that hid it's light under a bushel.Utterly unassuming on the outside, utterly charming and welcoming on the inside.Roaring fire, good food, immaculate loos and sparkling kitchen. And the nautical references were not lost on an old sailor like me.Very impressed.

Mike & Lorraine as always supplied excellent food & a warm and welcoming atmosphere for what we thought was going to be a quiet evening meal catching up with our daughter; which turned into a lively evening catching up with friends too. Thank you.

I can't thank Mike, Lorraine and Staff enough for an amazing Mothers Day Lunch, as always Mike cooked a lovely lunch which we had with my Mum and our daughters family. After eating out at several Restaurants on special occasions over the years, the Greenman was the best!

Yet another themed night at a wonderful pub!! The food was exceptional. I really enjoyed it. The pub is family run and you can tell that they put their heart and soul into the place. It really shows, you feel welcomed as soon as you enter the door. Really enjoyed my time here and cannot wait for the next time

I came with a large number of family members for a themed Greek night. The variety of food was vast, and the quality outstanding. Having been to Greece in the summer before my visit, I can truly say the food was on a par with top restaurants I visited there. Extremely attentive and friendly staff, and a wonderful live musician. I will be returning!

We popped in to this pub for a quick drink, while we were out for a drive after staying at Burnham-On-Crouch. We only stayed for a quick one, but this is totally a local's village pub and it shows. While we were people watching, it was nice to see that everyone seems to know everyone else.We sat at the long table and another couple sat at the other end to eat and talked to us. Very friendly pub and although totally out of our way, I would like to go back to try the food.

This is a lovely little tea rooms and garden coupled together with an antique shop. You can either sit inside amongst all the antiques that are for sale or sit outside in a very pleasant cottage type garden. It is a little like stepping back in time with hot drinks served in bone china cups and saucers. Reasonably priced and well worth a look if in the area.

Should stay open til 4:00pm if it says it’s open til 4:00pm. We turned up at 3:45pm and they wouldn’t even serve us a takeaway cup of tea. All the staff were out and locked up well before the advertised closing time. Poor show.

Absolutely fantastic stay. Staff were brilliant, very friendly, helpful and polite. My room was fabulous. Very clean and very comfortable bed. The meals were amazing!! But I have to mention the tomahawk steak, WOW!! By far, the best steak I’ve ever had, EVER! I will definitely be going back and certainly recommend The White Horse to anyone. Thank you again to all the staff, you superstars!!!!

Good atmosphere but limited menu - once you’ve been a couple of times you need to find somewhere different
