The White Horse in Maldon

Four of us ate here on a Thursday evening. The pub was quite busy, and this was reflected in the delay between starters being finished and mains arriving. However, when the food did arrive it was well worth waiting for. The white crab on sourdough starter was delicious. The dirty burger certainly filled a hole, though the poached pear desert was a little disappointing - a very small pear, and too firm to be cut by my spoon. I ended up gnawing on it like a rodent! Throughout we were attended to by Laura who was very knowledgable about the menu, and quite enthusiastic! Thank you, we will return. ,

It was my son's 12th birthday and the White Hart made it an extra special day. Laura looked after us and was great, she even arranged for a birthday dessert.

Reasonable sized portions. Warm environment, Tasty food.

The family met for Easter Sunday lunch - it was fantastic! All three courses were delicious, but the roast beef and especially the Yorkshire puddings were fantastic. Best Sunday lunch we've had at a restaurant for years - we will be back!

Had a lovely lunch here yesterday. We both had the mushrooms starter, and then the steak pie and the salad. Everything was delicious and Laura provided excellent service. She took our orders promptly and always checked everything was OK. Hope to return soon.

We were on our way for getaway/break in the Yorkshire Dales, so a lunch stop is always perfect here. We’re not local, so don’t get to this part of the country regularly (unfortunately), so enjoy making a stop here. As always, we thoroughly enjoyed the food and took advantage of the 2 course lunch deal. Will be back again next time we’re visiting.

We really enjoyed it. We have two young children so it can be touch and go but the food arrived in good time and was delicious. The waitress that looked after our table was excellent, really really helpful and friendly. She was proceeded by Katie, we didn't get her name as she finished at 5. It was for Mothers Day so was a special treat. The pub was buzzing with atmosphere. We'll definitely come back, I've spent the morning telling colleagues and customers about how nice it was. We love the White Hart but the service wasn’t good, we were left waiting 30 minutes for our starters that were luke warm when arrived, another 25 minutes for our mains. We had to go to the bar for more drinks and no one came to our table to check if everything was ok nor whether we needed drinks. Disappointing

I have visited the White Hart in Pool many times. The customer service, food and atmosphere is always excellent. Highly recommended and will definitely be returning again, thanks

Food is always decent here, and worth the relatively high prices for the area. Would definitely recommend it as one of the better restaurants around Service is friendly and welcoming if a little slow at times.

Fantastic place, never disappoints

We love the White Hart for a little treat for us as a couple or with our two kids. The food is great and the atmosphere is lovely! Kate and Holly looked after us with our 6 year old daughter so well last night. Full tummies and happy hearts!

Came for a meal at the white hart and was looked after Justin, he was extremely attentive and very friendly. The food was excellent and as was the atmosphere in the restaurant. Moved to the bar area for drinks and was looked after by Kate, also very friendly and made the best cocktails.

Amazing food served by lovely hosts, Kate and Justin took care of us just how we would want to be. Will be coming again.

Whilst on holiday we had dinner at The White Hart. We have a fabulous dining experience, the food was delicious and we all left feeling pleasantly stuffed! The atmosphere was relaxed and inviting. Our waitress Beth was brilliant, around when we needed her, friendly and engaging, but also gave us time and space. She helped make the visit so nice. Highly recommend.

We came for my birthday 🎂 and had a lovely time . The kids came and hadn't been before and the staff made them really welcome . The waiter surprised me by singing happy birthday which was lovely ! The food was delicious and the service was excellent.

I always get a friendly welcome at the White Hart, the staff are lovely and it looked amazing over Christmas. Sad to see the decorations come down as the building could do with sprucing up a bit.

A great pub in the heart of the village of Pool in Wharfedale. Cosy atmosphere with open log fire. The bar area is set up for dining with no standing room for drinkers. I've been twice in the last couple of weeks and each time was greated by a smell of fish upon arrival..

Worst 300 ever spent and a Christmas dinner we couldn’t even eat as the meat and plate was swimming in blood wasn’t given a choice on how we would like our meat 2 courses left and untouched never be going back there ever again best meal of year and was unable to eat it no roast potatoes or Yorkshire puddings was the worst

Staff really pleasant, decent service swift and friendly. Food not what I’d call gastropub and not sure it warrants the price. Ate as part of a large group, some dishes better than others. I had fish and chips, £17.50 so similar to what other local pubs charge. Fish decent size but not what I’d call large, and the pea purée wasn’t purée, it was dry like sawdust and tasted either microwaved or severely over cooked. Was disappointing. I had a mini pavlova and coffee for pudding, Which was very tasty. On balance I wouldn’t eat here again, based on the main being a simple dish to execute with only three elements, and the peas were inedible. Chips and fish just ok, nothing to rave about.

Food looked great. BUT where's the Pub? Currently purely a restaurant....it could do with an area for casual cosy drinks, as its a bit awkward and univiting currently. Shame as this area is crying out for a normal cosy pub 🙏

The restaurant was very cold. We were seated in a corner away from the fire by the window which is only single glazed and very draughty. I ordered the Celeriac steak, which was a nice vegetarian option to see on a menu. The celeriac was however undercooked and served as a plain large wedge. No seasoning and very difficult to eat with a knife and fork. Extremely disappointing dining experience.

Staff were exceptional!! Friendly and very efficient a credit to you!! Food was amazing!! Only one slight criticism, food could’ve been a little hotter as some of it was luke warm.

We've been to the White Hart a number of times over the past year or so, and today returned for a birthday treat. Once again a very pleasant meal, and excellent service from Rebecca and the team. Lovely experience as per usual! Popped in for lunch and got a Margherita pizza and a side of fries and it was delicious. Justin and Emma were brilliant, both very attentive and friendly.

Went out for dinner on Sunday evening as a group of 6, for some family visiting from down south, such a great experience. We ordered a variation of main meals across the table from roasts to pasta, with one of the group a veggie & it was all spot on. Rebecca looked after us from start to finish & we’ll be back again very soon!

Had a 40% off voucher so thought would venture out mid week. Really good visit - nice welcome from our server Rebecca who was extremely attentive, knowldgeable about the menu and friendly. Top quality food and service. In fact, I've never had a bad experience at the White Hart - the quality of the ingredients is always top notch and whether we're seated in the restaurant or bar area, both are equally as good as each other although I must admit to preferring the bar area as it's a bit cosier. Really good range of beers on draught available too.

Positive factors: Staff are welcoming, friendly, helpful and attentive. Premises are pleasant and comfortable. Constructive feedback: The menu is limited. The food is poorly presented (cold, over cooked and lacks quality). We have been supporters of the White Hart for many years, however our last three visits have been a total let down simply in the basis of the poor choice menu, poor quality of the presented food items and what seems to be a lack of care as to what is presented to the customer (you need a Chef, not a cook). Other than that, the staff are always amazing, the drinks on offer are a little limited but good, the ambience of what was once a great local hostelry is ruined by the food quality. So much so, that I fear it will be some time before we visit again, a sad day indeed.

Lovely setting, and the Sunday Roast dinner was very tasty. Service was very attentive. Some areas need tidying up, like the gents toilet and outside paintwork.

Great food, friendly service from Rebecca complimented the cosy atmosphere. Really accommodating for a Saturday walk in with dog (take blanket as one of the dog friendly areas has stone floors, though they can also sit in area with comfier wood floors).

An incredible Lunch, can’t wait to go back!

Called at the White Hart today for lunch. Service was incredibly slow... from sitting down to receiving our food was about an hour and I do believe it would have been longer had we not asked a waitress to take our food order. I did ask for the Pizza to be made a little thicker for me but was told that couldn't be done as the dough in the middle wouldn't cook properly. The truth is it's VERY obviously a frozen / chilled Pizza ready made to go in the oven as you would buy from a supermarket. Tasted ok though just don't like being lied to. My wife and father in law enjoyed what they had and said the food was good. Would we return? Probably 60:40 yes but because of the slow service and Pizza farce I can't mark them higher. Staff friendly enough and polite.

The Roast Beef dinner was delicious and the meat was so tender. A generous portion and lots of gravy. The staff were really friendly and welcoming and very attentive. I would say that the restaurant was very quiet when we visited. I would like to see more choice on the menu for vegetarians.
