The best restaurants serving British food in England

Lovely tea rooms! I had previously visited with a school group, they were so kind and accommodating! I came back with my mum and dad for a lovely afternoon tea- highly recommend the granary bread, the best ever! Lovely friendly staff, excellent service. I recommend booking as they are extremely popular!

What an amazing tardis of a place which draws you in with its thatched roof and promise of Wight shaped scones. It has extensive seating both inside and outside with an adjacent council car park. Bit pricey to park there ☹️. Visited three times:lunch, afternoon visit and early evening meal. There is a small bar inside and this room is the lively one in terms of engaging in conversation with one of the owners or other guests. The menu is varied and everything is freshly cooked. The scones are light and fluffy!! It is very easy to eat a lot here 😀 Very easy to reach by bus and a wee walk from the station We thoroughly enjoyed visiting.

4 people for lunch today. Husband is gluten intolerant - server asked if intolerant or caeliac (knew what doing) so was reassured. Excellent food. We had the halloumi and beef burgers. Delicious salads, great burger. Excellent tea & coffee. Great service. Would highly recommend.

For a typical local GreenKing pub the meal we have just had truly merits the five stars. The service was prompt and friendly. The food including a roast dinner was excellent. Especially good is the gammon steak which is always melt in the mouth juicy and tender.

Can you believe I was a little boy when I came here as a treat,over 60 years ago,as a born sandgrounder I come here to give me happy memories,the food is always perfect,and very good value,cheaper than many takeaways near by,the staff are also very friendly and good at there jobs ,keep up the good work 👍👍👍👍👍

Nice choice of options on the menu, really traditional pub food but on the specials were some slightly different options. Excellent service

Visited today for lunch. Beautiful welcome and atmosphere. We had an issue with a family member being unwell. The staff couldn't do enough for us. Bagged one meal up for us, and asked if I wanted my meal keeping warm. When I was ready to eat it, they had prepared me a whole new meal. Such lovely, empathetic staff. It's actually made very emotional as to how understanding the staff were. The food was epic. Out of this world. We will definitely be visiting again. Never, ever have I had such good service from such lovely people. You made its a very special visit, given the personal circumstances. Thank you. X

Excellent service and delicious food. We enjoyed breakfast and coffees. Really good quality food and the staff were great.

My wife ordered a vegetarian burrito via the QR code, got brought a meat one... And inadvertently ate some of it. Not good! Communication seemed to be an issue to both kitchen and to our table, despite ordering via QR code. Also, seemed to be some confusion about when food was brought over too. This should be better, especially when needing to respond to dietary requirements. A replacement meal was brought for free and a refund of the wrong meal too, and staff were apologetic. Mistakes happen but ordering via the QR code and communication should give more assurance that you will get the food you ordered.

A big 81st birthday lunch with family from Devon and Dorset … our third visit … lovely setting, buzzy atmosphere , faultless staff and great food… we all love The Thimble and will be back again … wish it was my local…

This pub, although warm, felt like a colder reception than the dementors welcoming someone to azkaban. A bunch of people just stared at us. The beer that I had tasted like they hadn't cleaned the pipes since Christmas 2023 and when I let them know all they said was that it was done a couple days ago, I said this quietly so noone else could here was trying to help them out. When I was given my fish and chips I was given an empty jar of tartar sauce and then when I asked for more I was given a mostly empty one anf then just gave uo. The burger was dryer than gjandis flip flops and tasted like those little Styrofoam packing things you get in fragile boxes. The sandwiches and the steak and ale pie was really good though. So we're the chips Avoid

Visited for the festive menu and starters were fine. Mains were more problematic.No roast potatoes,no stuffing,no cranberry sauce,pig in blanket in the singular rather than pigs in blankets in the plural,Desserts were also fine but not as pre-ordered. Whether we are cutting corners,cutting costs or just carelessness I don’t know but certainly not up to scratch. Almost forgot.the sprouts were like bullets and inedible. If the Manage r didn’t have to deal with telephone enquiries,telephone bookings,accommodation bookings,check ins and run the bar he might be able to provide some oversight on the food side.Needs support.

We had a voucher from Travelzoo and so on Thursday we girded our loins and took the risk. the staff were very sensible and seated everyone as far apart as possible and kept their contact to a minimum. The food was great and very well displayed. The haddock smokie with egg was delicious. My steak was cooked to perfection. The Harrogate sticky toffee pudding was sweet but not sickly A very enjoyable evening. Let's hope the virus doesn't spoil this resurant.

What a fantastic restaurant. We loved it. The food was amazing, especially the belly pork starter, the wine was great, and the service was spot on. Lovely cosy surroundings too. This made our trip to wetheral even more perfect. We can't wait to return and would highly recommend.
