Lovely village with lots of walks around BUT residents don't like visitors parking, especially silly lady at No1 (5th house on left), so please park legally when you visit, ldeally outside No1, bless...

A lovely small pub in a quiet village with a very friendly welcome and a short but interesting menu and good food. Open on Mondays too!

Five stars isn't enough. Service is beyond anyone's reasonable expectations. Menu is deliberately limited. I had meatballs, b-in-law fish and chips. Fantastic. I had the cheesecake, he had the brownie. His was great. Mine was better. Top quality beer. Room is really lovely - ask for Room 3. Definitely the highlight of our walk so far. Doubt that it will be beaten.

Stayed here for one night when walking the Wolds Way. We managed to walk past it initially as it is tucked away in the side street. Steve made us very welcome as we stayed in a converted cow shed above the freezer/fridge area. It is well a well designed room with a decent sized porch area for a rucksacks and dirty boots, and a large coir mat There is a little snug area to sit down and have a cup of tea, which is very welcoming. There is ample choice of tea and coffee. The bathroom is a good size with fluffy dressing gowns provided. What a luxury. We were allowed to help ourselves to milk from their fridges which showed great trust. We had an evening meal there and we were informed that there was quite a long wait as it was a busy night. We were okay with that we had nowhere else to go that night. The beer was well kept and there was a good choice for such a small pub. The breakfast was really good, we had a huge plate of porridge, plenty of of juice and coffee and a lovely cooked breakfast. The mushrooms were then tastiest I’d had for ages. We had a good packed lunch to help us on our way.

Be aware there is no mobile phone signal. The Cross Keys is a small village pub which provides accommodation, with the pleasantly decorated rooms in a separate building. Fresh milk was provided on arrival for a much needed cup of tea. Food is served in the pub every night which is good news for those walking the Yorkshire Wolds Way.After a good night’s sleep and breakfast, I collected my pack-up lunch and left Thixendale having been made welcome by Steve and Mary throughout my stay. It was great value too.

I stayed at the Cross Keys Inn in Thixendale whilst hiking the Yorkshire Wolds Way from Ferriby to Filey. I arrived on a wet and cold evening but the landlord (Steve) gave me a warm welcome and led me straight to my room which is in a converted barn alongside the pub. The room was ideal for a wet walker with muddy boots because it had an entrance lobby with a bench to take off my wet clothes and boots. My room had two single beds and an ensuite shower room with wash basin. There is no TV, but this did not bother me. There is no WiFi nor mobile phone signal as Thixendale is located in a deep valley. My room was centrally heated and cosy allowing me to chill out before going down to the pub for dinner. Steve had prepared a roaring fire and Steve is a great host so I talked to other hikers and locals whilst waiting for dinner. The menu gave a good choice, including both meats and vegetarian, but I would have liked more chicken options. The portion was generous and I opted for a delicious apple pie with ice cream for desert all cooked by Steve's wife. In the morning breakfast was generous and high quality which set me up well for the day as I faced a 22 mile walk. If I am ever in the Wolds again I will definitely stay at the Cross Keys Inn in Thixendale.

Back in 1980/1 I stayed at Thixendale on a walking holiday and stayed at the Youth Hostel. Today I went to Eden Camp near Malton. I had a day there, then put Thixendale in the Sat Nav as I had fond memories of my 1980 Youth Hostel stay. The village is much as I remembered it, beautiful, unspoilt and remote. I was fairly sure that in 1980 I had a pint in the pub, then had a solo night in the youth hostel.I soon found the pub, noted it opened at 7pm and did food until 9pm. I killed a little time and then had Scampi and Chips with a pint of Tetley's beer. The landlord is very friendly and helpful, the locals in the pub were a good crowd and friendly too. The food here is awesome. The landlord explained how the youth hostel closed in 1999 and how it was leased for six months a year and was also the village hall. I remember collecting the hostel keys from a warden that was none resident at the hostel, having a good stay in the village and pub and returning the hostel keys the next morning. I would happily return to this pub and Thixendale, anytime.

As a regular ( we go there when we visit our friends - every two years! ), I have always enjoyed my meals there but the steak I had last Friday was delicious. Despite our infrequent visits, Steve always remembers us and makes us feel really welcome.

Went to Cross Keys for dinner whilst staying in Thixendale. Food was good quality and value for money. Had scampi, chips and mushy peas. Good old fashioned pub with no frills. Tucked away and not easy to find but worth an effort to visit.

Diminuto pub.

Fantastic food in a warm friendly pub, I think they had 3 real ales on too. I believe it's closed at the moment but I'd definitely visit again when it's back open.

We have passed the fox and rabbit inn for several years and always thought it looked appealing from the outside, with the fantastic weather at the weekend we decided to stop and enjoy a drink and some food in the pleasant outdoor seating area. We received a warm friendly welcome Along with fantastic food and service. Well priced home-cooked food would highly recommend.
