Rang Sunday midday and they had a table available for us a couple of hours later. The lamb shank was ok as was the roast pork, the vegetables and Yorkshires were average and the roast potatoes very poor. The service whilst pleasant, had no check back, not even asked how the meal was when settling the bill. The cask bitter wasn't well kept.

Called for a Sunday roast dinner mid afternoon. The pork was decent, vegetables & Yorkshire pudding were ok, roast potatoes need work, it comes with gravy on which was tasty. The lamb shank was decent. The Timothy Taylor's Bolt Maker was just acceptable. No check back unfortunately, we weren't even asked how our food was upon paying, and no goodbye on leaving. This is more a restaurant than an Inn although they do accommodate a handful of people who just want a drink in a small snug. Good car park and some outside seating. Dog friendly.

Me and my son went here whilst we were here for a short break , a fantastic pub car park at the front, more space at the back . Quick to get us seated ordered drinks straight away. Ordered food, no problems there . Plenty of food on our plate, the fish and chips, was more than enough. Would definitely recommend this place a little bit pricey, but you get what you pay for sometimes. Oh, and it's dog friendly, so all in all, a great dining experience

Lovely place to eat. We arrived at 2pm (lunch menu ends at 2pm) but they were happy for us to eat and still have anything from the menu. The food was great. The roast was the best I've had in a while. The meat crackling and stuffing ball were particularly tasty! Lovely staff. Food served quickly. Clean. Good parking with overflow. Reasonably priced for such nice food. Highly recommended. The need for a lactose free milk alternative would be the only downside (you can buy single portion lacto free milk- longlife). I will make sure I have some with me in the future.

Ok Sunday Lunch but bit over priced particularly deserts - £8.50 for a small piece of roulade which was oddly warm. Beef was tough and some sinew and potatoes undercooked and under roasted - as a whole we were satisfied but wouldn’t recommend to others or return. It was ridiculously hot in the restaurant too , if it had been the height of summer I don’t think we could have stayed to eat at all

UPDATE August 2024 Just come back from another week staying at this wonderful location with our caravan. Not disappointed with our stay. Though on site they now have an electric meter which has a credit of £5 that worried me at first, there was no need as this credit was plenty for us (we don’t have an electric car!). We ate at the Fox & Rabbit several times during our stay and were not disappointed. The service was excellent and a good choice from the menu. August 2022 We have just come home after spending a week in our caravan on site at the Fox and Rabbit Pickering. What a beautiful place. We ate in the pub every evening except for one night. The food was amazing, varied choice of menu and good price. Also very dog friendly. Staff were so friendly and welcoming, nothing was too much trouble. Would definitely recommend without any hesitation. Looking forward to going back again in the not too distant future.

We had a wonderful Sunday dinner (5pm) and experience at this gem of a pub near Pickering yesterday. The owner/manager jiggled bookings about to accommodate us, first of all. We were greeted by a friendly young man (George, I think) straight away and escorted to our cosy seats. There are plenty of nooks and crannies in this traditional yet unstuffy establishment, which allows a more private dining experience. This place is run like a dream and unsurprisingly busy too. Staff are either appointed well or trained to a high standard; finding a higher level of hospitality these days is difficult, I have to say, but Emily made our experience really enjoyable. A fantastic host. Drinks were excellent too: the right level of ice and garnish in the soft drinks, fantastic pint of ale and generous amount of ice and glass to go with a bottle of cider. And the food…yum yum yum! HUGE Yorkshire puddings, battered stuffing, beautifully cooked veg, delicious gravy and generous portions of meat with a choice of pork, beef or lamb shank (separate meal). It was truly excellent. Our friend is a veggie and there’s a separate menu (this could have been more obvious) that Emily overheard we needed (again, customer service was spot on). Kids can have a choice of standard children’s meals or smaller portions of the mains. Really enjoyed our time here. Very relaxing and it felt special. Thanks guys 🥰

The grand daughter (3 yo) chose chicken nuggets chips and beans. Well worth a visit, large menu, reasonably priced, delicious food, good service. We will return.

A lovely little country pub on the outskirts of Whitby. Plenty of parking. We stopped for lunch on our way into Whitby and was pleasantly surprised by the food. We chose the goats cheese with walnuts and beetroot salad from the specials menu on the blackboard, and it was great. The goats cheese was lovely, the salad was fresh and the red onion chutney was delicious, we would definitely call here again. The decor is dated and in need of an update, but it's got character and the food makes up for it. It was also packed when we called around 1pm on a Thursday lunchtime so a very popular place.

Been past this pub lots of times but until now, I haven’t visited. It’s a very nice pub with very friendly staff and other customers. It’s in a great location with a fantastic view of the moors and cars driving past. I really like the parking facility outside; I found it easy to park. Inside the pub and outside, it’s very relaxing. I like the look of the pub inside and outside. The quality of the ingredients is high and was delicious however I found the portion size to be on the small side. The choice of food on the menu is on the low side; I would have liked the pub to have more stuff to choose. It’s definitely somewhere I would go but just for a drink, not food. The food is delicious but with the normal price for pub food, I would have liked the portions to be bigger and more choice. I like the pub a lot.

Average - been here before for tea sat outside with the dogs and it was lovely so came back to try the Sunday lunch. Everyone raves about it but we were a bit disappointed and would say it’s fairly average. Arrived 3 mins late and greeted by a very prickly lady telling us if we were any later they were going to give away our table. We had booked for 4 but the table was for 2 as they had read the booking wrong on the the email. I ordered a lemonade which I had to ask for 3 times and didn’t arrive until I had finished my starter. Food was fine old school prawn cocktail in a glass dish with extra hard butter that you couldn’t spread but still nice enough. Roast lunches were again nice enough perhaps a bit over done but fine. Will probably go again if it’s a nice evening but would probably choose to go to some of our other local favourites instead such as the buck or Cayley arms

Thought that we would try this place on the way to Whitby. Looks good from the outside and inside. My wife and myself were a bit surprised by the lack of much choice for mains all of which except the liver came with chips. Would have thought that new or mashed potato would have been on offer. We both ordered Meat Pie. The meat was some of the best that we have had in a pub but oh the lid should have been puff pastry. No puff to it! Was just a flat piece of soggy pastry so not really a pie. The veg came on a serving dish. Initially we thought that we would be getting one each but not the case. There was the equivalent of one carrot, 3 small heads of brocoli and a dessert spoon full of red cabbage. There was a small amount of chips on each plate which were OK but for £18.50 we thought that the meal was poor value. We saw someone having a sandwich with chips and he had as many as our 2 put together. We were offered desserts but there again little choice and at £8.50 seemed a bit expensive. We usually go to a pub in Old Malton which serves excellent quality food at cheaper prices and more sensible portions but they don't serve food on a Monday but won't be using this pub as a substitute in future.

Phoned the Fox & Rabbit and they managed to fit us in. Very busy for a Monday and not even school holidays. The staff were very friendly, food portions were very large, couldn’t have eaten a pudding even if we wanted to. Very dog friendly, weren’t made to feel like a second-class citizen just because we had a dog. Atmosphere was great, a traditional old English pub, enjoyed so much went back a further two times over our holiday period (we had a lunch and two evening dinners). Would highly recommend going but you really do need to book ahead as it is very popular.

Our second visit. Lovely food & staff. Dog friendly - not nice if you don't like the smell of dogs, whilst eating your food though. Lovely open fire. Sadly the fire attracted lots of flies, which were crawling over the nearby chairs & tables. We moved to another table in a different room, still the flies were annoyingly buzzing around.

One of the best bar meals I've had for a very long time. Excellent food, service and atmosphere. Definitely, very much a new favourite!

Unfortunately when we arrived at this establishment there seemed to be lots of tables free but as we hadn't booked in they wouldn't accommodate us. I don't think we'll be trying again

Excellent F&C. Probably too many chips. I would suggest cutting the portions down. The quality of what we had was very very good. We are visitors and unlikely to be back in the area for a long while, but would recommend to anyone looking for a delicious F&C.

"you enter as a stranger and leave as a friend" said the bar room sign which greeted this weary wanderer who'd taken a wrong turn. I ordered a pint and sure enough before it was pulled I was in conversation with a local man who thenintroduced me to the bar staff! The Sunday Roast was in full swing, the campers were in and out from the pub campsite and the occasional labrador was stealing hearts but nothing seemed to much trouble for the staff. This is a proper country pub, as warm and cosy as a storybook cottage and it's charm appeared to be working on a nearby American couple who's fantasies of an Olde English Country Pub had all just come true. I was on foot and was a few miles from the nearest town but lo and behold one of my new-found companions insisted on giving me a lift... As I exited the bar I glanced the "enter as a stranger and leave as a friend" sign again - this pub does what it says on the tin!

It would look like I’m beating a drum for this pub! But we keep going back because to be honest it is just such good value. Tried their two steaks for £20, choice of rump, sirloin or ribeye, we both went for sirloin, superb, cooked as we wanted, medium rare, salad, mushrooms, peas, onion rings, and a separate bowl of chips. You must try it! I also think you will find it harder to get a better pint of bitter, landlady told me lines are cleaned at the change of every barrel as well as normal cleaning.

Absolutely loved this pub/restaurant. We sat outside with our dog at one of numerous tables and had a delicious Sunday lunch. So much flavour in the meat and the roast potatoes were the best. A bit pricey but worth it for the setting, the food, the service and the landlord brought out some steak pieces for the dogs to share. Amazing.

Food was delicious although not somewhere I’d go regularly as it is very expensive.
