Went for fish and chips. We asked if we could put our own salt and vinegar on. The older lady said abruptly “ no it’s shop policy with COVID “ I told her I worked at hospital which now if you get covid you can still go to work. She was rude in replying “ just tell her when to stop”. My god you handle our order, take our money that we have handled so I think you should review your policy and let people put their own salt and vinegar on. One good thing was that the fish was lovely and white and very tasty. Older lady who serves needs to have some manners. Probably a bad day for her as the younger staff lady was fine.

This is the best place for miles around, have been almost every time I've been passing through Pickering. Shame we live over 100 miles away, otherwise we'd be there all the time. Thankfully I'll be bringing the family this coming weekend so will be popping in for a feed once again. Great food and excellent friendly service!!!

Arrived in Pickering yesterday and decided on chippy tea. Smiley service. When we were ordering I pointed out to my husband that they had scraps. The lady heard and said she’d put a bag in with our order. The food was immense! Really meaty fish, crispy batter which was light and tasty. I hope we return to picketing because I’d love to visit again

I found this chippy as we were passing through Pickering. There is a helpful sign on the main road to Helmsley. The cod was fabulous and was skinned. The chips were great. Everything is cooked fresh so there is a small wait and it is worth it. Next time we are in the area I will make a detour to come here.

Foods lovely as long as youre not in a hurry

Traditional Small fish and chips shop, almost perfect, fish cooked to order and only 7 minute wait, £6.30 for a small fish and chips in a posh town is good. It even tasted like haddock, so no complaints, fish good, chiis good. The rest of the town was lacking in eating places, one pub closed down ,two others not serving food.

Best fish shop for miles, visited many times before when in Pickering and last week had cod and chips and chicken and chips with mushy peas, all well cooked, crispy batter, white, fresh fish and lovely chips, as always a great meal.

What more can I say, great fish and chips, great portions, lovely staff, cooked fresh and absolutely delicious!

If you are looking for traditional fish and chips and you are in the area this is the place to go. Everything is cooked fresh and is always hot, I recommend you try the fish it is always fresh tasting and not that frozen stuff. The staff are always friendly and welcoming. I wouldn't go anywhere else in the area. I highly recommend

Visited yesterday evening, food was good but the wait outside was horrendous, over half hour and some people seemed to be getting their orders far quicker, on person walked in and ordered and was served in 5 minutes whilst another was there when I arrived and was waiting still when I left and had ordered the same as the person who got theirs quickly. Something about the serving system doesn't work well as 4/5 staff behind counter. Fish stood out as excellent, chips were better than many others, but definitely needs a review about how people are served as turned into a bit of a joke amongst those of us waiting outside

While we were holiday we had fish and chips twice from Potters Hill fish shop once in the week when not so busy and once on Saturday when it was extremely busy (never sen such a busy place) both times it was excellent batter nice so where the chips piping hot and very tasty would recommend anyone to this fish and chip shop best fish and chips we have had in a long timr

Drive up to stay in Pickering for the week, was walking past and the smell drew us in, ordered family meal for £11 Large Fish bites, 2 small sausages and a large chips, everything was lovely, highly recommend 👍

Our family holiday down in Yorkshire led us to the charming town of Pickering, where we were on a mission to find the best fish and chip shop. The moment we had our first bite, we knew we had hit the jackpot. The fish was incredibly fresh and cooked to perfection, with a light and crispy batter that melted in our mouths. And the chips, oh, the chips were a revelation! Golden and perfectly crunchy on the outside, fluffy and soft on the inside. Each bite was a delightful experience, and we couldn't help but indulge in this delectable meal. It was undoubtedly one of the best suppers we have had. On holiday with my family and we really wanted a fish and chips supper, with us being from Arbroath (which is known for their harbour and smokies, the fish, and chips are really good in my town but I have to admit the fish and chips from this chippy is amazing haven't had a supper so tasty as this! Absolutely delicious, sizes are big! I asked for a large but they didn't have any left so got a, medium fish and chips and it was good sized portion. Cooked perfectly, would highly recommend!

Visited this local chippy a few days ago.. We visit Pickering from time to time. Very friendly service. Lovely tasty fish and chips, peas very small Sadly my batter was all soggy ☹️ which was very disappointing.. typical !! But hopefully a one off. Hopefully will try again 😊

11.55am both kids who work from home fancied a chip shop lunch! ( they get 1/2 hr from 12 -12.30) Phoned the order in and was told 10 minutes. Perfect. Jumped in car, arrived at chippy at 12.08 where the lady was just wrapping them up. Back home to delicious hot fish n chips for all at 12.10. couldn't ask for better service , nor better fish and chips. Thanks for the great service and food .

I haven't been to Potter Hill since I used to live in Pickering. I was on my way to Whitby for a comedy night and thought why pay Whitby prices? So dropped in. I made the mistake of ordering the large fish and chips! Now I'm a good eater, but this beat me. I don't like waste so I kept the chips for the air fryer when I got home. There were at least a normal full portion I'd serve myself for a meal, and these were the leftovers! The food was spot on and very good value. Thanks

Up here on holiday and have had 2 meals from here. The fish & chips are freshly cooked, really delicious and very reasonably priced. The service is really friendly, I would definitely recommend and when we're back in the area I will be back.

Best fish and chips in the town

Bank holiday beginning of May Had a lovely meal from here. Small haddock chips and mushy peas. The whole meal was so tasty and the fish was delicious. Best fish we have had in a long time even better than Bridlington Will definitely be paying another visit this Bank holiday.

only average, fish overcooked, could do batter? But Pickering is a lovely place to visit, lots of interesting shops and a hidden market too, and of course the NYM railway station. Just a few miles to the east is Thornton Le dale, typical English country village, where the little house is located( Photo)..... well worth a visit................Country Roads

Best chippy in Pickering and I tried them all

This was a really good fish and chips shop. They really hit the nail on the spot regarding fish n chips. They use the proper frying fat (beef tallow/ blanc de bouef/Ossewit), the crisps tasted like they are homemade. They have big fish and it certainly did taste fresh. Certainly one of the best fish n chip shops out there!

By far the best ... coming from generations of chefs I can honestly say the Traditional food here is the best I have ever had and served with a smile... we came across you by chance when returning to Flamborough after a trip out from holiday camp, having been brought up in Harwich raised having fresh fish etc I can honestly say your food is exceptional and I highly recommend anyone to go here is definitely worth it.... wish we could have you back home..... 👍😃

52 years on this planet this time and that's what it took to find the best Fish and chips shop in North East, they actually make their own vinegar, most shop don't use vinegar, they use a substitute but not this place it's the real McCoy.

We have eaten chips in Cornwall, Wales, Scotland as well as all over England o er the span of 50 years. I can say hands down the best fish and chips so far. The batter was absolute perfection. Well worth the miles to get them!!
