Wow! Superb locally sourced food, true understanding of favours , cooked to perfection with delicious wines to accompany and attentive service ! Highly recommend

Let's be clear - this place is under new love and care as of two weeks ago. The food is STUNNING! The service is top notch. And I really wish this place was closer to home. This is a hidden gem in what is touted to be already a foodie town. But honestly, the food here is a different level. The crab cake I had for starter and the pork chop for main were pretty much sprinkled with fairy dust they were that good. I'm a fussy snob when it comes to food and I can honestly say I've not had anything this good since before lockdown in 2020. The wine suggestions with my husband's duck starter and my pork main were spot on. And our slightly ebullient and bouncy pup was gracefully recieved, with a plate of finest Bonio and a bowl of water both ready for when we arrived. Couldn't ask for anything better really.

Very quiet when we visited but I can imagine this place having a great atmosphere during busier times; a nice pub.

Lovely traditional pub. A joy for historians! Great staff and a cosy, friendly atmosphere that allows for couples or groups to co-exist. There are different spaces you can choose from to be in. Great mix of people across generations. Highly recommend 👌

Nice atmosphere, quiet. No loud music. Enjoyed a relaxed and delicious meal (can't recommend the cheese burger highly enough and the chips were wonderful, too).

This is a nice quite pub with a good selection of beers cider and other beverage. Very well laid out staff a very polite. And they serve food too

Not bad for a burger. They put food from 12-8pm but serve just burger about 4pm as example.

Menu limited to 3 sandwich fillings. Having said that they were very nice and the staff were cheerful and attentive.

Post Covid Update: the new menu is good! It's generally £12 a main. When I visited, they were out of several options but the cheese burger was actually one of the best I've had, and I've eaten a lot of burgers 🙂 I'm told the fish and chips were good too. I went safe with the beer but The Black Sheep was excellent. I'll have to go back and research the other options. 🙂 Still friendly, still dog friendly, still recommended.

Good old fashioned pub, doesn't serve food any more but patrons are welcome to bring their own in. Friendly bar staff, good hand pumped ales, and dog friendly. Disabled access is about the only problem, with about 8 steps up from the main road, and a further two steps depending on where you sit.

Very friendly staff who let us take a bring a takeaway in as they had no chef.

Lovely place that always has a good selection of real ales. Just missed one of our favourites as it was going on next bit that's how it goes. Can't wait until they start doing food again.

So pleased we chose Cross Keys for lunch yesterday . Such a welcoming room with open fire , menu was just about right size . Staff very polite without being obtrusive . Two of us chose Roast Meat of the day Sandwich with chips and Gravy and two had triple decker sandwich with chips. The roast was Lamb , absolutely delicious , chips were maybe the best ever . The men Had the Chicken , Brie, and Bacon triple decker, huge and was served with proper Coleslaw also . Both were well satisfied . Price was excellent value for quality of food, thank you for a perfect lunch

You felt very welcome when you walked in the food is banging I had the stake and ale pie there is not many pies that i say yes to that was top pie compliments to the chef

You can’t fault this pub. Lovely staff and always a smile when you enter. Food and service are perfect. I’ve eaten most types of food here, all great but I would really recommend the lovely breakfasts at the weekend. Great choice, refill drinks, newspapers and a real fire on the go! No better place to go in Malton :)

Lovely food .Service could be better / friendlier . Think maybe friendlier if you are a regular - customer service a bit lacking / abrupt . Beef was very nice , homemade Yorkshire puds .

I'm a local so have been several times since it opened, so not a fluke! I particularly like the friendly and welcoming service which is to everyone, regardless of whether it is your first visit or your 100th. The food is great and reasonably priced. I have a friend from Leeds who now will only go to the Cross Keys. He really loves your beer :-).

A great place for food and beer

We've been here many times over the year and we always come here if we want a breakfast for a treat. Quality produce and more than enough to keep you going for the day!Evening meals are also fantastic and the staff are friendly and can't do enough to make sure you are having a nice meal.

This is the second time I have been and I wanted to make it wasn’t a fluke....amazing food, service :)

Visited for steak night on a Thursday and wasn't disappointed, was very prompt and staff her great. Steak came with all the trimmings and the homemade sticky toffee pudding was one of the best I've had! Great price for 2 people! Definitely will return!

I came to the cross keys for a meal on steak night with my dad and sister. Had a reservation for 7 but came early for a drink before our meal. We had never been before and the atmosphere was relaxed and we were made to feel welcome. We had our drinks by the open fire which felt very homely and cosy.Dad and I had the steak deal but my sister didn't want to have steak so she ordered a burger from the usual menu. All the food was delicious and great value for money. The service from the staff was friendly and professional. We will definitely be returning

Visited here back in February with a friend just to try somewhere new as I was sick of going to the same places, we have been coming back regularly since! Our favourite is the Rump Steak and we often come on their promotional “Thursday Steak night” as it is just brilliant quality for such a low cost- the highlight definitely being the chocolate brownie if you have room for a dessert.All the staff are lovely and the service is quick and efficient. Definitely one of my favourite places in Malton and is always the first choice now when we decide to eat out.

Always love visiting here, great food every time and lovely friendly staff. Added bonus of real fires 🔥 love it!

Myself and my family often visit the Cross Keys. We have been a number of times to pig out on beautiful pub food. There are great offers on every week and we love the pie and a pint for £6.95! Cheapest in town!

Cannot recommend this place enough. Brilliant atmosphere, friendly staff and the food is amazing. Had my birthday meal there with my family and it was really special. They know how to treat a customer and really glad it's local. Thanks to all the staff.

Popular and busy on a saturdsy lunchtimes very disappointed with steak pie and chips

Had a lovely lunchtime meal here, menu is varied and very accommodating to every need. Barman was welcoming and friendly. Will definitely be back to sample some more. Great selection of drinks at the bar also.

Phenomenal place. We were warmly welcomed by friendly, patient staff. Then we had an amazing dark ale which we'll go back for. THEN we ordered the Malton burger from the menu... And it was genuinely phenomenal! Perfectly cooked beef, well balanced with bacon, cheese and signature sauce. Seriously a 5 star burger. Can't wait to come back to Malton, just for the Cross Keys pub!

We came to Malton hoping to eat as we couldn't eat at the local pubs near the campsite we were staying at as they were all booked up, we were glad they were as the food was fantastic here there were three of us and we all had different meals and all were lovely.

Called in for a late breakfast, glad we chose the small one, fab food, good quality and plenty of it. Really good service and free refills on drinks. Got to be the best breakfast in town.

Really like this pub as very good beer, food and cosy atmosphere, but we don’t go as often as we’d like due to the smell. We popped in this weekend but the smell was worse than last time and makes having a drink quite unpleasant. So sorry guys.

We booked in for 9 of us to take advantage of the steak night and the amazing value it offered.

Nice little quite smart but unpretentious pub with sufficient choice to suit most drinkers tastes. Nice staff. Food is available and not expensive also they have regular promotions such as pie night and steak night which are excellent value.

Can definitely recommend the pie night menu. Met up with family tonight and although the weather was dismal, the atmosphere in the pub was cosy. Great value as drink was included in the price (6.95). All of our pies were really tasty (Proper chips too). Will be back to try a different one soon.

Have been in this place very many times over a lot of years, in its various guises (the low point being a Thai restaurant!) but good to see it open again, now in superb decorative order, supplying great beers and a nice Sunday lunch at a competitive price. Staff friendly and efficient. It would have been 5/5 if it hadn't been instant mashed potatoes, oh dear!

Went for pie night ,very nice pies I had chicken n ham and my partner had lamb and red wine very tasty and a drink to accompany them each for 6.95 very good value and lovely friendly staff

Drove out to Malton last minute and wandered around until we found the Cross Keys. A warm welcome on a winters night, open fires well kept beer & friendly staff. Food was delicious & good value. Cannot recommend enough.

I have lived all my life in Malton and for the first time today I visited the Cross Keys with a friend for lunch. We were made very welcome by the staff. The steak pie, chips and vegetables were excellent. I think the pie crust was best i have eaten and it contained good quality meat. The chips were just as they should be - dry and crisp. There was a good variety of vegetables. I will certainly return in the future.

I came here with my family over New Year and the ambience was great, the staff are lovely and welcoming and it's just a proper cosy traditional pub - a good selection of ales and gins kept us happy! Food was also amazing, I had the burger, and it was homemade and massive. Will definitely be back here next time we're in town.

As local residents we decided to pop in for a drink. Wednesday night, quiet, no problem. We were served our drinks, again no problem but if you want people to visit again the staff might try a bit harder to make people feel welcome. No one made us feel welcome or even interacted with us. It wasn’t a busy time. Not returning for a second visit!

The Cross Keys is a pleasant, roomy pub very much in the traditional style. With traditional decor and furnishings and separate sections of the bar it has a certain coziness to it, augmented during our visit by a lovely coal fire.

Nice enough pub but Sunday lunch poor. Meat tough. Yorkshire pudding burnt. Carrots raw not al dente. Will not be repeating.

Walked in as we were in Malton for the food festival weekend and thought we’d give it a try. It has a great feel of a traditional pub with a parlour, snug etc and great selection of beers. The staff were really friendly and we were soon seated.
