So pleased we chose Cross Keys for lunch yesterday . Such a welcoming room with open fire , menu was just about right size . Staff very polite without being obtrusive . Two of us chose Roast Meat of the day Sandwich with chips and Gravy and two had triple decker sandwich with chips. The roast was Lamb , absolutely delicious , chips were maybe the best ever . The men Had the Chicken , Brie, and Bacon triple decker, huge and was served with proper Coleslaw also . Both were well satisfied . Price was excellent value for quality of food, thank you for a perfect lunch

You can’t fault this pub. Lovely staff and always a smile when you enter. Food and service are perfect. I’ve eaten most types of food here, all great but I would really recommend the lovely breakfasts at the weekend. Great choice, refill drinks, newspapers and a real fire on the go! No better place to go in Malton :)

Lovely food .Service could be better / friendlier . Think maybe friendlier if you are a regular - customer service a bit lacking / abrupt . Beef was very nice , homemade Yorkshire puds .

I'm a local so have been several times since it opened, so not a fluke! I particularly like the friendly and welcoming service which is to everyone, regardless of whether it is your first visit or your 100th. The food is great and reasonably priced. I have a friend from Leeds who now will only go to the Cross Keys. He really loves your beer :-).

We've been here many times over the year and we always come here if we want a breakfast for a treat. Quality produce and more than enough to keep you going for the day!Evening meals are also fantastic and the staff are friendly and can't do enough to make sure you are having a nice meal.

Visited for steak night on a Thursday and wasn't disappointed, was very prompt and staff her great. Steak came with all the trimmings and the homemade sticky toffee pudding was one of the best I've had! Great price for 2 people! Definitely will return!

I came to the cross keys for a meal on steak night with my dad and sister. Had a reservation for 7 but came early for a drink before our meal. We had never been before and the atmosphere was relaxed and we were made to feel welcome. We had our drinks by the open fire which felt very homely and cosy.Dad and I had the steak deal but my sister didn't want to have steak so she ordered a burger from the usual menu. All the food was delicious and great value for money. The service from the staff was friendly and professional. We will definitely be returning

Visited here back in February with a friend just to try somewhere new as I was sick of going to the same places, we have been coming back regularly since! Our favourite is the Rump Steak and we often come on their promotional “Thursday Steak night” as it is just brilliant quality for such a low cost- the highlight definitely being the chocolate brownie if you have room for a dessert.All the staff are lovely and the service is quick and efficient. Definitely one of my favourite places in Malton and is always the first choice now when we decide to eat out.

Myself and my family often visit the Cross Keys. We have been a number of times to pig out on beautiful pub food. There are great offers on every week and we love the pie and a pint for £6.95! Cheapest in town!

Popped in for breakfast when passing by a few months ago and now would not go anywhere else in Malton. Really tasty, nice atmosphere, free coffee refills, and friendly staff. Can’t fault it!

We came to Malton hoping to eat as we couldn't eat at the local pubs near the campsite we were staying at as they were all booked up, we were glad they were as the food was fantastic here there were three of us and we all had different meals and all were lovely.

Called in for a late breakfast, glad we chose the small one, fab food, good quality and plenty of it. Really good service and free refills on drinks. Got to be the best breakfast in town.

Really like this pub as very good beer, food and cosy atmosphere, but we don’t go as often as we’d like due to the smell. We popped in this weekend but the smell was worse than last time and makes having a drink quite unpleasant. So sorry guys.

Nice little quite smart but unpretentious pub with sufficient choice to suit most drinkers tastes. Nice staff. Food is available and not expensive also they have regular promotions such as pie night and steak night which are excellent value.

Can definitely recommend the pie night menu. Met up with family tonight and although the weather was dismal, the atmosphere in the pub was cosy. Great value as drink was included in the price (6.95). All of our pies were really tasty (Proper chips too). Will be back to try a different one soon.

Have been in this place very many times over a lot of years, in its various guises (the low point being a Thai restaurant!) but good to see it open again, now in superb decorative order, supplying great beers and a nice Sunday lunch at a competitive price. Staff friendly and efficient. It would have been 5/5 if it hadn't been instant mashed potatoes, oh dear!

This is a pleasant comfortable pub with a good selection of real ales and a good selection of gins. The food served is typicla pub fare but looked reasonable.

Went for pie night ,very nice pies I had chicken n ham and my partner had lamb and red wine very tasty and a drink to accompany them each for 6.95 very good value and lovely friendly staff

Drove out to Malton last minute and wandered around until we found the Cross Keys. A warm welcome on a winters night, open fires well kept beer & friendly staff. Food was delicious & good value. Cannot recommend enough.

I have lived all my life in Malton and for the first time today I visited the Cross Keys with a friend for lunch. We were made very welcome by the staff. The steak pie, chips and vegetables were excellent. I think the pie crust was best i have eaten and it contained good quality meat. The chips were just as they should be - dry and crisp. There was a good variety of vegetables. I will certainly return in the future.

Popped in to the cross keys today for a quick bite to eat (steak pie ) 10/10 , this place is a must if your visiting Malton . Great food great service thanks guys

I came here with my family over New Year and the ambience was great, the staff are lovely and welcoming and it's just a proper cosy traditional pub - a good selection of ales and gins kept us happy! Food was also amazing, I had the burger, and it was homemade and massive. Will definitely be back here next time we're in town.

As local residents we decided to pop in for a drink. Wednesday night, quiet, no problem. We were served our drinks, again no problem but if you want people to visit again the staff might try a bit harder to make people feel welcome. No one made us feel welcome or even interacted with us. It wasn’t a busy time. Not returning for a second visit!

The Cross Keys is a pleasant, roomy pub very much in the traditional style. With traditional decor and furnishings and separate sections of the bar it has a certain coziness to it, augmented during our visit by a lovely coal fire.

Walked in as we were in Malton for the food festival weekend and thought we’d give it a try. It has a great feel of a traditional pub with a parlour, snug etc and great selection of beers. The staff were really friendly and we were soon seated.

Been wanting to try this for ages finally Tryed today I had fish and chips mushy peas and bread and butter my wife had steak chips lovely crispy batter home made chips always a bonus .Bread was large pieces and was lovely and fresh mushy peas in small pot were great steak done to wife’s liking medium coleslaw lovely and home made chips great .just had soft drinks but looked a great choice of hand pulled beers .Staff were very friendly and welcoming food at a great price will be back soon .

Myself & my partner like to have a late lunch so struggle for options where food is still being served, however today we found Cross Keys and it was perfect.

We popped back to see the family in Malton and went for a pint or 2 in the town centre. Anyway the mother in law recommended the Cross Keys and so we thought we’d give it a go. Food was great. Chips were to die for and we couldn’t leave them alone. Everything was tip top. Couldn’t recommend enough!!

we visited here on Sat 13 October along with another 50 people from our walking group and had a great time. Our walk in the Lakes was cancelled due to the weather so when we finally reached this pub we weren't booked in for food which cause the poor chef a bit of bother. The people who got food really enjoyed it and the others visited the local chippy. The beer drinkers said there was a good choice of ales and I thought the Guinness was very good (especially after a 19 mile walk lol). The Gins were good also with a canny choice. The two young staff were rushed of their feet but coped brilliant and were really friendly - thanks for the visit.

After spending the day at Eden Camp we were ready to eat. It was around 1700 and most places were on a break between meals. Luckily we found the Cross Keys were still serving food. Very friendly staff which is always a good point. We both opted for the Lamb Roast which came out accompanied with, mash, roast, carrots, parsnips, cabbage and peas all in a rich gravy. What a lovely meal and nice to see the veg was fresh, which you would expect from a Market Town, but don't always get. Overall a lovely and we will be back to try other offers on the menu.

We called in for drink when we were in the area, were made to feel so welcome by staff & locals one gent even went to get us a map of local area .

We first visited on their steak night and were amazed at the quality quantity and price of the meal.We went back again and had an equally good meal. Well worth a visit.

Excellent service , Sunday lunch was really tasty we had the beef and the lamb I finished with the Creme brûlée and home made shortcake could not fault anything and a lovely beer garden at the rear , We will definitely return

Took my dad here for late father's day meal with my daughty. Absolutely brilliant best pie ever had. And even gave my daughter extra lemonade with her meal. Definitely be back again.

Booked a table for father's day Sunday lunch and what a treat it was. The beef roast was absolutely beautiful and cooked to perfection. Just the right amount and very reasonably priced. The staff are attentive, and friendly - felt as if I was being greeted by a friend from years ago. The gluten free brownie was amazing and my dad who is a sticky toffee connoisseur was massively impressed :) we will definitely be back and looking forward to go to the special evenings we heard would be on soon.

This bar has recently re-opened with new landlord. Very nice, the atmosphere was calm and had a lovely feel about it. Didn't eat on this occasion but the food looked good and we would certainly consider eating there. Staff very welcoming and they stocked lots of gins!

My friend and I called in here for lunch a couple of weeks ago . It’s only recently opened up again . I had the burger and chips with all the trimmings and I must say it was delicious. My friend had the steak and she enjoyed hers. Will definitely be back.

We took our family of four for Sunday dinner and I can’t fault it. Staff were attentive and friendly, food was of a fantastic standard and my husband is a chef so our bar is set pretty high. Refurb has given it a traditional country pub feel and makes for a cozy and relaxing atmosphere. Also there’s a beer garden which we will be back to try when the sun comes out. Lots of real ale and extensive gin selection. The new owner is clearly on his game.Gets a massive thumbs up from us.

This is a great pub and kitchen serving excellent food by a really lovely welcoming team headed by Mike. I've been in this pub many times and have always felt really welcomed by the team. The bar offers a wide range of beers, lagers, spirits including a vast gin bar and a range of wines. The menu depends on the day and time - Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner plus some special evenings - Tuesday is Pie Night, Thursday's is Steak night.

What a fantastic little pub. We were recommended The Cross Keys after hearing good things from friends. Visited last week and wasn’t disappointed, great food and reasonable prices. We went for lunch and the steak & pie were both excellent, as was the sticky toffee pudding. Brilliant selection of drinks my husband was impressed. A really nice feel to the place. We returned again a few days later for drinks, and will be back again . Can’t recommend enough, a new regular haunt for us.

I was pleased to write the first review on trip advisor for this place after it reopened and now having been a number of times since I can say I have had the breakfast and lunch and never been disappointed. Great food each time, all the staff are brilliant, the beer is excellent and the atmosphere is great. I will be back there is no doubt.

Have now been twice and both the lunch and brunch were great. We had a lovely brie and bacon club sandwich and a hot beef sandwich, both with chips which were delicious. Family breakfast was a hit too and we all enjoyed. A really good addition to Malton and we wish you every continued success.

Visited with my friends and family for lunch last week, The staff were extremely friendly and accommodating with my young son. The food was fantastic, great menu, lovely atmosphere - all round great pub!! Especially enjoyed the real fire and snug room. They also had a great selection of Gins which I was happy to sample!!

Went with missus last night from Hull to try out the steak night and we were not disappointed! Great price for steak and all the trimmings as advertised, cooked the way we wanted and the portion size was very good!

We went here just after it opened. Food was not been served but we had gone for the good range of beer that was on offer. We enjoyed a couple of drinks in front of a lovely coal fire. Really loved the decor and everyone was friendly. A couple of weeks ago we went for tea at 5.30pm. I had the fish crumble, which was full of fish, with veg and chips. My husband had burger and chips. We both really enjoyed our meals with the only criticism being that we thought there could have been more chips. However, having said that we both felt full after our meal which meant, unfortunately, we were unable to sample the puddings. Service was good and quick and once again we were very happy with the beers. We shall definitely be back.

After seeing this pub has been opened again and re furbished, we made this pub one of our pubs to go to on an evening out, lovely atmosphere, nicely decorated, friendly staff. We visited for a few drinks and bite to eat one Sunday afternoon. My partner had hot lamb sandwich with chips and gravy and the lamb was lovely and tender. My tuna sandwich with chips filled me up till the next day, such good value for money. After seeing the Roast dinners come out, that’s my next order. I would highly recommend the place to anyone.

6 of us meet up in Malton about 4 times a year for a meal and a catch up, we heard that The Cross Keys was open again and recently serving food. So we thought we would give it a go.

Called in early evening mid week to recently refurbed Cross Keys,met by friendly staff and a good choice of real ale,perfect pint of Malton blonde.Plenty areas to seat, small menu,no starters though soup was on main menu,wife picked the steak pie with chips and few veg. very tasty,i had the tomato and spinach linguine with garlic bread, initially the sauce appeared thin and too much but absorbed into the pasta and dipped the bread in! also tasty. Wife had choc.brownie with ice cream I had the lemon bread and butter pudding, both very tasty. Finished off wit 2 dif gin and tonics. Well worth a visit, next time I will try the burgers, we sat near the kitchen doors and saw them plated up!

Visited cross keys in malton in jan of this year. Food amazing and super staff. Child friendly and dog friendly this pub offers a cosy atmosphere for everyone. Will definitely recommend it to all my friends.

Came here for a Sunday roast in the evening and my partner and I were really impressed. The food was great, it was perfectly cooked and well presented, they have some great real ales on tap and the staff were friendly and polite. I would happily come here again to eat and drink.

Myself and family first visited Cross Key in-between Christmas and New Year for drink, we love it so much! It has recently undergone a refurb which has been done to a highly standard and kept to a lovely country pub feel. log burner and open fire give it a wonderful homely, cosy, warm feeling you could sit there all day. After seeing on Facebook they had started serving food we had to visit and we were not disappointed the food was AMAZING! Excellent quality & excellent value for money. The staff were all so friendly and nothing was to much trouble. We Will be back!!

What a beautiful friendly pub! The staff cannot do enough for you, I have a 3 year old boy who absolutely loves this place due to the owner (mike) making him laugh! We have been three weekends in a row and love it! This week we tried the food for the first time and was not disappointed! Fantastic food, super friendly, and a brilliant pint! Also if you like Gin they have a fantastic gin selection which I’m working my way through!

Very happy to give the first review of this newly opened pub. Firstly, the welcoming atmosphere, the decor and the overall feel of the place is great and the staff too are friendly, welcoming and smart. We took a table near a log fire, very cosy. Between us we sampled the Malton burger x 2, the steak and ale pie and the linguini. Everyone was very pleased with their meal. Real chips, (thank goodness), home made and very tasty coleslaw, home made burgers and pie. Excellent. Will be eating there again for certain. Our compliments to the chef and the owners.

Called by for a pint and found that yet again it's closed and up for sale. It's amazing when you think about how many pubs Malton had back in the day how many are gone now. I'd guess that the Cross Keys would need a big investment to bring it up to modern standards, and given the location, the ago of the structure and lack of parking it would probably be too big a risk. Bit of a shame really.

A group of us called in here for a quick meal before catching the train back to Scarborough.The menu was very pub foody. The prices looked reasonable and we were in a hurry so we took the gamble. The barman took our order and when he closed the bar to cook our food (by himself) we feared the worst.To our amazement the food arrived in good time, altogether, and it was very well cooked and good quality. The burgers in particular were huge and very very good.The barman/chef was very chatty and humorous and couldn't do enough for us.The decor and atmosphere were not much to write home about but the service and food were definitely ok if you just want to eat and run.

after a few visits to malton last yr and hearing the cross keys was reopen we thought we would give it a try and we are very glad we did its a new place completely all new deco landlady lovey and talks to you, we had the homemade veg soup omg how lovely and creamy i had the chicken new yorker came with chips, garlic bread and salad and was very tasty my partner had the steak and ale pie, was very filling with plenty of meat mash well nothing like homemade with real spuds is there no instant there was very happy all round, so glad to see the pub back open and doing good food. well done keep it up we will be back.

Great food, but appears to have closed. I don't know why. It was my favourite spot in Malton. The all-you can eat buffet was very popular.

Welcoming ambience, great selection of dishes - but having said that, Thai all seems a bit same-y to my palate.The small walled beer garden is warm & sheltered [when the sun's out] just right for a crisp chilled cider.Currently "up for sale" - can't say I'll miss it though.

I came here a few months ago with my mums boyfriend whilst my mum was away and I must say it was absolutely fabulous! The staff are excellent with you and the food was just divine! I would defiantly recommend. I'd love to go back it's just finding the time. If the owner is reading my review you should be proud of your working they are excellent!

Just had a meal tonight with my son and husband. The service was excellent and the food was superb. I had never had Thai food before and the lady who served us explained the menu and was very helpful. A very nice evening.

Sadly i live out of the area so only get here about once a twice a year but i have to say the people of Malton and surrounding areas are so very lucky to have a Thai Restaurant like this on your doorstep, where i live we have nowhere close or as good as this.The food is always excellent, the choice is always superb and the service is exceptional - what more can i say, if you dont have a meal here you have totally missed out on a sensational eating experience , keep up the good work and we will see you in December for our annual visit.

The cross keys not only serve up quality Thai food, but the service that comes with it is just outstanding, you feel like you know the staff personally. Even though you have made your first visit! The food is just exquisite and delicious. Would recommend this place to anyone!

Having eaten here before we decided to try a takeaway and were not disappointed. Starters and mains for 2: all excellent value, excellent quality meat and vegetables, well cooked and packed well so no spills and still hot when we got home. The thai yellow chicken curry was to die for! Everybody should support this great place!

The cross keys is lovely and the whole atmosphere of the place is amazing! I love the decor as it's very unique and suits the food if you know what I mean!! They alter food foryour wishes as if you don't like a certain ingredient they change for your taste an personal likes and disliked! The prices are quite expensive though, that's the only downside

I had take away so not sure if the in house dining experience is different but my food was Tasteless and bland; my home made Thai curry is so much better.

I have eaten here a couple of times - the last time was late Feb. I have ordered off both the a la carte menu and the buffet. The buffet menu is okay - good value for money as you can revisit, but I prefer the main menu where the dishes are made to order. The owner comes out and is happy to give his recommendations and is very pleasant and helpful. Decor is nice, nice ambience and good service (if just a bit too keen on replenishing glasses!) Enjoyable meal with friends and I would definitely return for the 'a la carte' menu, though less keen to do so for the buffet.

We love the food at the Cross Keys. Wether you prefer a light tapas or à full 3 course Thai meal this is the place.This was out 4th visit here and we found the staff very helpful and friendly with the chef/owner coming out of the kitchen to recommend and explain dishes.I was particularly impressed by the red curry which was delicious. The only down point was the fried noodle side dish which was not to our taste.Having visited another Thai restaurant in the area I have no hesitation in recommending this one as the one to go to.

I was convinced I would eat here after an impromptu visit to Malton but a bit concerned after the last review. We shouldn't have been! The menu is still extensive but amidst a 30th party and having no booking we left the menu to Stewart's surprise and we weren't disappointed. Nice surroundings, good staff and the chef came out for each course to explain on a Saturday night which wasn't expected. Mixed starter n dips, soup course, rice, noodles, duck n a Thai chicken stew plus a very nice tea for £18 each. Very happy diners! Go there!!

I have thought long and hard about writing this review but after 3 disappointing visits to this place in the last 2 months I felt I needed to share my thoughts. We have loved this restaurant since this couple took it over and have supported the place because the food has always been amazing and for us the menu and the dishes have got better over time so, when we arrived one evening a couple of months ago to be told the menu had been cut down we were so disappointed....It seems the owner Stuart has decided to do cook all the food himself, sending his thai chefs back to their homeland, so he's cut down the menu to what he can cope with cooking himself in the kitchen - a lot of our favourite dishes have disappeared and the quality too. We have given things time to settle down but still no better. Last week the sticky rice was so over microwaved it was solid, the noodles were sent out tepid and the curries seem very thick and over powering. Having recommended this to all and sundry over the last two years we now no longer can recommend it and won't return until someone recommends it to us! We appreciate times are hard and it could be that people are just not using this restaurant which is why changes have had to be made but, for us this restaurant was at its best the there was a good choice on the menu and the food was being cooked by skilled thai chefs....We are lost without it!!

We ate at the Cross Keys and Thai House this week, and we couldn't praise it more. We went on a Monday, never a busy night in restaurants, and found it was buffet night. As we are vegetarians the owner said there was not too much for us at the buffet, but they then asked what kind of thai meals we like and cooked us a wonderful meal. Nothing was too much trouble and the price was very reasonable. Thank you so much for a lovely evening.

This place does not look much from the outside, so I was pleasantly surprised when seeing the inside. A really nice looking place with lovely atmosphere. The food was absolutely amazing, and the staff were really nice and made it even better. I would definitely recommend this place to everyone, and would come here again...and again.

Superb, friendly and attentive service reminds you of how it should be done.The food is nothing short of fabulous and I can't rate it highly enough. We tried at least 8 dishes between us and everything was just great. The interior and atmosphere is spot on for a pub/restaurant and is nice and relaxing.If you like this style of food, then this place is a must and well worth travelling for. I'll be making the 50 mile round trip again at the earliest opportunity.Very good value - with drinks and the ladies on cocktails, we ate ourselves to a standstill for £30 a head.
