The best restaurants serving British food in England

Me and a group of friends came to this lovely establishment for a drink. How wrong we were to do so. When we arrived, things seemed to start off normal: we got in, got drinks, and sat down. We engaged in conversation for a while until another one of our friends arrived. He went inside to get himself and another one of our friends a drink, bearing in mind that we had been asked to show ID when we purchased them, and was declined the ability to buy two drinks at once because they needed to show ID alongside him. First red flag. Around 10–15 minutes later, another one of our friends turned up with an unopened Celsius™ energy drink, and before he could even make it properly to the table to greet us, the landlord of this lovely establishment came rushing out to inform him that this drink could not be on site and must be removed promptly. My friend, politely, stated that he would not open it and it was simply for afterward. This was not good enough, and the landlord stated so. We put the drink outside of the establishment’s beer garden and left it at that. When my friend, who had just put his Celsius™ energy drink outside of the establishment, went inside to get a drink, the landlord was staring at us on the security camera as if we were going to do something wrong. The only thing that we did wrong was go to The Plough. This place is in desperate need of new management, and the landlord is in desperate need of some lessons in grace and decorum because he has about as much as a reversing dump truck without any wheels. Good day.

Simply one of my favourite places in the world. Loads of lunch, cake and drink options - with plenty of choice for GF, VG etc. Food is all made with high quality local ingredients and it's very child and dog friendly. My wife judges all other hot chocolates against the dark hot chocolate from Linton Kitchen!

Lovely fish & chips, a good traditional shop. I highly recommend it.

Update Went this weekend and just as good. Possibly the highest level of service in a 20 mile radius. Delightful food, good atmosphere and reasonable prices. Nice pint of bitter too.

Very nice traditional pub. The food is great and well cooked. I ordered a lamb and it was delicious. Probably it even better in summer time because there are tables outside

We had a delicious Sunday lunch the pork tenderloin was cooked to perfection and served in an unique and mouth watering way with plenty of fresh vegetables My friend always requests we come here it’s her favourite and understandably so Delightful and attentive staff and always a pleasure to visit So good to have such quality food a real treat thank you

The best B&B we’ve ever stayed at and definitely the best cooked breakfast I’ve ever had! David and Kelly’s philosophy is ‘what would we want if we were staying somewhere?’ - and that’s what they deliver. You get a very comfortable room with a super-comfortable bed, a sofa to sit on, two slices of home-baked cake, home-made flapjack, a fridge with fresh milk (none of that UHT rubbish, thank goodness) and assorted teas and coffee. A good shower and nice thick towels. Two umbrellas in case it’s wet when you’re en route to breakfast (the bedrooms are in the stable block apart from the main house). The large garden and surrounding fields are beautiful. Breakfast is fantastic - outside if it’s sunny (which it was for us). There’s home made compote and yogurt. Lovely fluffy pancakes. They’ve sourced the best bacon, sausages and black pudding they can find (sometimes made to their own specification) and made their own sauces to accompany them. All the bread, jams and marmalades are home-made and delicious. Just wow! And David and Kelly are so friendly. What more could you want?
