We had a lovely evening; we booked our table rather late in the week and the restaurant was very busy, so we were not surprised when there was a bit of a wait for our food. However, the beer was good, the staff were really nice and when the food arrived it was great. It's so nice to see some interesting dishes on the menu, rather than the ubiquitous offerings of most pubs. Gold stars to the hard-working waitress who, despite having to negotiate lots of stairs with the food orders, remained cheerful all evening. Will definitely eat there again.

Found by his place via trip Advisor Nice country house in a nice area by the roadside no a not very busy road . A 16th century couching house very quirky place to stay. It’s old so don’t expect everything to be as modern as an newer place because it’s not. The food is amazing its cooked to order and fresh with a great menu. Hosts and staff are friendly and it’s like eating at home with friends x We took our dogs who was well looked after by the owners table to our own with our dog x Definitely recommend it.

We had a two night stay at this lovely quirky pub with breakfast and dinner. The proprietors are lovely, the food excellent and also the 3 rooms, which provide a rustic but luxurious, private experience. The chef/proprietor bakes his own bread which compliments the food served. He also makes his own black pudding which is delicious. All the food is cooked to order using only quality local ingredients. All the staff were friendly and ensured a comfortable stay. The quality of the food and tea and coffee in the rooms is excellent. This is a perfect setting for exploring Shropshire which is a beautiful county. We will be going back to the Crown in the not too distant future.

What a lovely early evening we had there, just a visit as passing through.Food was to a very high standard (our family always say we are critical!) but the meal of halibut with mussels was suberbly cooked as was the pork loin-worth the wait to be served. My husband said he could eat that again! The creme brulee was also delicious,my go-to pud. And the whinberry crumble went down well too. Lovely surroundings.Us & doggies were well looked after too. I'm sure we'll be back as the menu will be seasonal. And we'll book next time!

Initial impressions (from outside) were a bit worrying - the wall facing the car park needs a good paint. But the inside is much nicer and we got a lovely friendly welcome. The menu was great - quite interesting creations. The food quality was also really good, and portions huge. What let the place down was the slowness of the service. We waited three quarters of an hour between our starters and main courses, with no explanation. The place wasn’t busy, and indeed there were four “front of house” staff, all very pleasant, so we assumed there was an issue in the kitchen. Shame.

Four of us went for Sunday lunch and were delighted to sit upstairs where there a lovely open fire. The service was excellent and two of us had haggis for starters which was beautifully presented and very tasty. We all enjoyed our main course, three had roast beef and I had rabbit pie. All delicious. 3 of us had desert: chocolate fondant, sticky toffee and date pudding, biscuits and cheese. Absolutely splendid and generous portions. Altogether a lovely meal in super surroundings.

We visited while friends were down from Scotland after having a great meal in the past and again everything was spot on. We arrived around the same time as a table of 12 so we thought there may be some delays, but it was as if that table wasn’t there. Service was as prompt as ever. 4 of us had completely different meals and not a single crumb was left on any plate. I myself had a desert even though I was fully and it was beautiful. Genuinely no matter what you order here, everything is bursting with flavour. You never need salt and pepper because everything is spot on and I have pepper on everything at home. Hats off to the staff here. The service was spot on. Our friends were very impressed too.

This historic inn is an ideal place for an overnight B&B stop along the four or five day walk along the Jack Mytton Way, it being only a mile or so from the southern end of Wenlock edge. Our hosts, and their very well behaved dog, were very welcoming at the end of a long trek, and couldn't do enough for us. I'm still very grateful for the emergency hot glue-gun repair they did to my boot which had a Charlie Chaplin style flapping sole. Without it I/we may have had to abandon the next three days walking. (The repair held until we reached Wales and I didn't need to lash the boot together with string also provided as a back-up). We would have stayed full board knowing the 'Crown Inn' has a high reputation for its evening restaurant, but being too early in the week for this we were nonetheless offered a meal from the kitchen prepared just for us as the only residents. However, we had already arranged to go to a nearby pub for food and a few pints, and were then kindly issued with a large fully charged torch for our night walk there and back. We slept soundly in the very comfortable and quiet bedroom, despite 'The Crown' being an inn situated by the roadside with occasional rural traffic, and enjoyed an excellent and generous cooked breakfast the next morning which fuelled us for another full day's walking without the need for lunch. I look forward to returning soon, (by car next time as my boots are now in the bin), to dine in the beautiful, old interior of the inn's restaurant.

I would recommend the goats cheese dumplings and risotto to start. Both were absolutely delicious. It was steak night so 3 had steak which were of a high standard of beef and I had the cod dish which I really loved. Overall a very high standard of cooking. Thoroughly recommend this place. Tempted by the TA reviews we booked a table a couple of weeks before our trip to Shropshire, but it was a quiet lunchtime as a table for 12 had cancelled only that morning according to the welcoming landlady. First impression is of an unloved car park across the road and our expectations lowered, however the comfortable surroundings and efficient service offset that slight negative and the food was excellent. A big shout out to the wait staff, Beth, who dealt extremely professionally with a nearby table of two couples, one of whom appeared to revert to the 1970’s in his attitude to young women with every glass of wine he drank.

This was the third time we have visited the Crown during three holidays nearby over the last eight years and its standards remain high. Some distance from any town, the restaurant certainly "merite le detour". The menu is imaginative, tasty and beautifully presented, although it is not so broad as that of many places which simply advertise the fact that they have a large deep-freeze. The welcome from the proprietors, Mr and Mrs Arnold is warm and genuine and their delightful assistant makes the service a true pleasure. Fresh local bacon, eggs and sausages are complemented by his home-made black pudding (which is delicious) and baked beans. After two mornings he even laid my favourite sauce out on our table for me. Sadly all 3 of the local bitters were 'down', all that was available was a lager and Guinness! The place was cold, as was my large glass of Malbec (£7.70 a glass!). The starters were fine, however, despite a discussion with the head waitress re portion size, the main was more like a child's portion than an adults! No quality check from the staff, no 'is everything ok with your meal?'. The place was half empty and lacked atmosphere. Having finished, I told the waitress I was disappointed with the mains. A cursory 'sorry' followed which was distinctly snotty! We paid and left, £70 worse off! Not impressed one bit, won't be returning!!

Quality of drinks on offer is very high and probably helpful to comment on the great dishes we ate. Cod cheeks starter was a tasty treat very well prepared and something unexpected in deepest Shropshire. Pork two ways and a lovely dish made from collar bacon were also creative and tasted super. All the food we had was filling enough, even without the dessert! ....well it would be rude not to....Our only regret is that we didn't eat here on both nights but then again we like to investigate local cultures to the fullest possible!

(TA rules) Quite simply, the combination of quality produce and expert cooking coupled also with excellent presentation, gave the boss and I a memorable meal. Remote for us it may be, but we and Doris will return.

Wonderful fresh home cooked food in magnificent surroundings. Beamed ceilings and huge fireplaces.Good beers (I like real ale) at prices about the same as my local.

We took advantage of a Travelzoo offer and with the help of Doris, our friendly Sat Nav, found the Crown situated on the roadside between the middle of nowhere and the back of beyond. To be honest, this is not a pretty pub from the outside, and given its location will always be a destination venue.Inside, the real fire and staff offer a great we

Delightfully rustic The Crown is both cosy and quaint. The menu proved difficult in respect of it's abundance of enticing choices. On hearing a member of our party was vegetarian the owner came over discuss potential menu adjustments to increase her choice...service of a level I haven't experienced anywhere else. Great food, exemplary service and a charming setting. A must visit eaterie.

Delicious meals here on several occasions and really good value too, considering the high standard of food on offer. Very nicely presented and served by helpful, friendly staff. They work hard at getting it just right. A real pleasure to eat here.Definitely worth a visit. We look forward to returning.

This 2 night stay was a Christmas present from our daughter. It was a lovely old building and our room was very spacious. We had a lovely welcome from Harriet and the dog!!!We had a lunch that day and evening meal which were delicious. We met Richard the next morning. He was very friendly. Food was very good both nights. Plenty choice at breakfast.

We had booked a table last Friday for Lunch here, somewhere we have driven past so often and never stopped. Lovely welcome upon arrival by Harriet ...who by the way was magnificent throughout!! We were offered a choice of table and chose one between the bar and the fireplace ...good choice. We were served quickly with drinks and menu thoroughly explained. We had three courses and added breads etc and we honestly could not fault one little thing. The entire experience was perfect!!

Lots of restaurants and gastro inns do a decent job these days, thanks partly to Trip Advisor. You gotta be good to stand out, and The Crown does that. Took the three course menu. Complimentary dips followed by chicken liver pate with chutney, then tender slow cooked belly of pork, ending with a creme brûlée. Couple of pints of local ale all for about £35. Everyone else more than happy with their choices. Service was perfecto. Surroundings lovely, albeit in the middle of nowhere and had to phone for directions. Ample parking. At this point I would like to say something bad so that you know I am being objective...I cannot. It was superb. Book and go !

Having a lovely apartment in the countryside whenever home in the area whether Winter or Summer I take the car for a drive and search for good restaurants,I had been disappointed by the town of the Craven Arms and was on my way back to Stourbridge. The Crown was on my left and a small carpark to my right so I pulled in for lunch at midday, there were a few people at the bar and a charming lady sat me beside a roaring fire. The menu was outstanding offering gourmet Fayre and I indulged with three courses and each was better than the first, apparently the restaurant has been awarded Masterchef of Great Britain which I think is as good as Michelin star.I am not going to mention the menu as I believe its changes regularly. Also offered are short breaks, romantic weekend and just fabulous food,if you wonder what I rave about go and try it for yourself, like I mentioned walking in the door in Winter I left feeling I had found the summer.............Congratulations to proprietors: Jane and Richard Arnold,I will be back.......

Visited Saturday 18th February 2017:Friendly greeting from the moment we walked in, treated with respect but in an extremely relaxed manner, lovely cosy surroundings....oh, yes - nearly forgot.....the food - well the mushroom starter I had was actually perfect (just take that in for a second....it was perfect!) sea bass main was beautiful, tasty, beautifully cooked and presented a joy to eat. My partner had goats cheese starter which I had to try...again beautiful, her main was beef brisket which was gorgeous. The Crown Country Inn absolutely demonstrates that country restaurants can be as good - in this case far better - than town/city venues. You even get served with a smile and a quiet reassuring confidence from friendly staff. Lovely evening...thank you!!

Beautiful dinner. Fabulous service and the quirky tapas stable pre starters are to die for.....try the chilli chorizo and chick peas...yummy! The paso primero wine is lovely and is made in Spain by a local couple. We would definitely return if we are in the area again.

5 of us had a very atmospheric Sunday lunch. My herb crusted pollock with mussel sauce was the best choice- fine dining indeed. The large plate of mixed veg and roast potatoes were a really sociable success. The roast pork was ok but the Yorkshire puddings soft. Good nibbles at the table and a fine Sauvignon Blanc got the party started. The owner was a bit sharp but her dog was wonderfully sloppy. A good experience in a cosy inn on a miserable day.

This is rapidly becoming our preferred stopping off point on our way to Wales, the inside of the pub is delightful I can just imagine being inside with a howling storm going on & feeling lovely & cosy by the wood burner. The food is really quite outstanding last visit was a Serloin steak cooked exactly how we like the & the chips are fantastic.Jane is a great host always prepared to have a chat & attentive in a way that is not obtrusive. We both like this place so much we will be visiting for many years to come.If I could score it higher then I would!

Seemed like a great pub with a buzzing atmosphere, and nice to see space for drinkers and not just all tables, although there was still plenty of space for diners. We visited for Sunday roast, and while service was good and food was nice, the portions were tiny. I had roast chicken and it just didn’t fill me up at all. I would rather pay an extra few quid and have a proper lunch. Sorry, but only 3 star review due to me leaving hungry.

Excellent food, excellent service and excellent setting. Staff friendly and efficient in their timings. There is also an excellent range of ales on offer. I have no hesitation in encouraging you to visit when in the area.

Lovely pub with excellent food. We arrived in a group of 7 adults and 3 children after my husband had just completed a sky dive for the Alzheimer's society. Even though we hadn't booked, we were seated very quickly, and the service was excellent along with the food 😀 I would definitely visit again! I would recommend you try the home made onion rings, they are amazing! Bit beware, don't order a portion each as we did, they're enormous! 🤣🤣
