Great welcome from the staff. Lovely old Pub with lots of atmosphere. Both had Sunday lunch which was plentiful and well cooked. What great value also. Definitely recommend. Will try to return before I depart.

We visited this beautiful, quaint pub yesterday (28th Aug 2024). The staff were so polite and welcoming and the food was stunning. Probably the best food we've ever eaten in a pub. We cannot recommend The Griffin enough. If you want excellent food, at more than reasonable prices, in a relaxed environment, then The Griffin is the perfect place for you. The steak was cooked perfectly, the triple cooked chips were amazing and the Signature Burger was a feast for any hungry diner. Keep doing what you're doing because it's perfect!

Best pub in Oswestry (and there are some good ones!). Great, regularly changed beers, top-drawer home-cooked pub grub, the best local music every Thursday night (and increasingly at weekends) and excellent service. Everybody loves The Griff…

We visited the Griffin Inn for tea. We shared a starter of duck in hoisin sauce balls - very tasty. I then had the steak which was good, but the peppercorn sauce was more like a gravy and not particularly special. The chips were delicious. My husband had gammon and he enjoyed it. Puddings were okay but not at the same standard as the rest of the meal. They are bought in from a catering supplier. The choice was chocolate fudge cake, waffles or apple pie. The fudge cake was obviously not homemade and the custard was on the watery side. We had three glasses of wine, a beer and a Coke and the bill was about £60 The staff were very friendly and helpful.

Came here with my girlfriend for a 3 course meal. Very very impressed. Fantastic value for money, and great food. If I had one slight complaint it was that the Desert Menu was slightly limited and I had to opt for Chocolate Fudge cake which is not my preferred choice but asides from that really really brilliant establishment and I will be bringing family here when they visit in August!

Visited the Griffin Inn for food on a Sunday and would highly recommend. We were sat in a little ‘nook’ room which was perfect for our group. Everyone absolutely loved their food - in particular the chicken kebabs and Sunday roast. Staff were so friendly - would definitely recommend visiting if you’re looking for somewhere in Oswestry 😊

This evening, my daughter and I visited the Griffin Inn in Oswestry for our tea at 5 pm. We don't go weekly but we are regulars. The pub is lovely, with a cozy and welcoming atmosphere. The food is consistently nice, fresh and home-cooked, all at reasonable prices. A special mention goes to the young man behind the bar, who always provides excellent service and is particularly good with my daughter. If you're looking for a pleasant dining experience, I highly recommend giving the Griffin Inn a try.

Average ......Sunday roasts are nice but have had a few served served cold....so we have stopped using this place for Sunday lunch as some of my friends have had the same experience but not complained.......I have had to return food in the past to be microwaved & staff were not too pleased....as if it was my fault some of it was stone cold ! A bit of a clicky place which can also be very crowded as it is a very small pub..

The place was ok,only very cold!!🥶🥶I wanted a brie and cranberry toasted sandwich, there was no cranberries 🤦♀️😞 then I ordered a fish finger sandwich, I asked if they were breadcrumbs, they assured me they were, it comes made with batter, I had to send it back because batter doesn't agree with me 🤦♀️😞😫 so then I ordered a vegetarian lasagne, and waited a very long time for the food to arrive, will never go there again and would not recommend them!!🤦♀️🤦♀️

Today was the first time we'd been to this pub, it certainly won't be the last. Proper, traditional pub, with a large range of draught beers (unfortunately I was driving) There was a £10 lunch menu (not available every day so please check) with a good choice of food. We chose the Guinness and steak pie. The staff were lovely, friendly, welcoming and efficient. So good to experience such excellent customer service.

We were heading to Wales to climb Snowdon and needed a dinner stop in Oswestry to take advantage of the superchargers in the Horsemarket car park which is 5 minutes walk from the Griffin. From the outside it is very unassuming and the sort of place that we might ordinarily have walked past. However having looked at the online menu, it looked great and we had booked a table in advance. This turned out to be an excellent choice. Entering the pub it felt very much like one of those "local pubs for local people" but was welcoming and cosy. The staff are very friendly and we soon had food ordered. Three halloumi skewers and a signature burger. I was going to have a steak but then I saw the signature burger being served to another table and my mind was changed. The wait was spot on, and when the food arrived we were very very pleasantly surprised. It was absolutely outstanding. The signature burger is one of the best burgers I have ever had. Really good cuts of meat. Fresh tasty bacon, and excellent beef patty and delicious chicken. The chips cooked to perfection crisp and not oily. The rest of my family were similarly thrilled with their halloumi kebabs and chips. The menu is broad with lots of choice for vegetarians. This pub is an absolute "must visit" for a good meal and a lovely place to have a drink and a rest.

So what have we got ? A little pub down a side street in Oswestry which 9 times out of 10 you would walk straight past.... big mistake. Looked on Tripadvisor whilst on holiday with my wife for somewhere to eat one night and this had great reviews. Lovely friendly welcome by the guy i believe who runs the place and the girl behind the bar, 3 Tuns beer on tap so that was a great start. We both ordered fish and chips with mushy peas and tartare sauce which was huge, lovely crispy batter and good chips, the fish nearly overlapped on to the next table it was that big, you will not go hungry here. We then had sticky toffee pudding with custard, could do with a slight tweaking as it was more treacle pudding, mentioned to the guy running the pub and he apologised and said he would mention it to the chef, saying that it still tasted dam good. Noticed all the meals coming out and everyone of them looked great and i thought i should have had that then thought the same thing again when the next meal passed me. The pub was full on a Tuesday night with people eating, quite a rare sight these days, as i say if you serve good food people will ALWAYS return. Will return again for sure when in that neck of the woods.

Visited for a family celebration and have to say the Owners and staff were brilliant. We booked at quite short notice for a large party, nothing was too much trouble, very accommodating, friendly and helpful. The pub is lovely with lots of old world character, in the centre with free parking on a Sunday only a few minutes walk away. We were seated in the back room which was ideal for us. I'd rate this as ok at best. It's confusing as to how you order a meal. They're supposed to come to your table if you've reserved one, but we had to go and ask. We both had sirloin steaks, mine rare, my wife well done. Hers was chewy all the way through, mine had some gristle and was hard to cut in places. A somewhat stingy amount of chips and they forgot the onion rings until halfway through. Doubt if I'll go back.

Had lunch here with a very large family group 17 of us ,the meal had been pre-arranged .The staff were lovely very friendly and welcoming .We were in the Royalist restaurant ,people say the hotel is out dated ,but that is part of the history of the hotel and character , modern decor would not do the hotel justice , and shrewsbury town is a medieval town , the Prince Rupert was former home to Prince Rupert the grandson of King James 1 ,so why would anyone want to change such an Iconic hotel into a modern hotel . Our food and service was fantastic the serving staff were lovely very efficient and we didn't have to wait long between courses . My partner and I had Sweet corn Veloute for starters ,then Hake and then Chocolate Brownie with ice cream ,Every course was delicious served on hot plates . So if you like places with history and good food and service ,I can highly recommend the Prince Rupert every where was lovely and clean too .

We had a birthday afternoon tea here and thoroughly enjoyed it. Being February and miserable weather, we had the place to ourselves but the staff had gone to a lot of effort - decorating the birthday girl's table with birthday confetti. Nice and cosy inside. The food was very good - nice selection of sandwiches - what I would call sensible fillings like cheese and chutney, ham and tomato, tuna mayo, and egg. Our only comment would be to include a few more of the tuna and egg ones as there were quite a few of the ham and tomato which for our group was the least popular flavour. A selection of four different cakes - carrot, victoria sponge, chocolate and a very good syrupy flapjack. Small pieces but we liked that as you could have a bit of everything without feeling like you were going to explode! Very fresh and tasty. Finally cream scones - and yay - proper clotted cream! My son has a lot of allergies so chose a baked potato off the main menu. The staff were very helpful at the booking stage sorting out his meal and he enjoyed it. Am sure it must be lovely in summer time with all the plants and being able to sit outside - will definitely come back again.
