We visited this beautiful, quaint pub yesterday (28th Aug 2024). The staff were so polite and welcoming and the food was stunning. Probably the best food we've ever eaten in a pub. We cannot recommend The Griffin enough. If you want excellent food, at more than reasonable prices, in a relaxed environment, then The Griffin is the perfect place for you. The steak was cooked perfectly, the triple cooked chips were amazing and the Signature Burger was a feast for any hungry diner. Keep doing what you're doing because it's perfect!

We visited the Griffin Inn for tea. We shared a starter of duck in hoisin sauce balls - very tasty. I then had the steak which was good, but the peppercorn sauce was more like a gravy and not particularly special. The chips were delicious. My husband had gammon and he enjoyed it. Puddings were okay but not at the same standard as the rest of the meal. They are bought in from a catering supplier. The choice was chocolate fudge cake, waffles or apple pie. The fudge cake was obviously not homemade and the custard was on the watery side. We had three glasses of wine, a beer and a Coke and the bill was about Β£60 The staff were very friendly and helpful.

This evening, my daughter and I visited the Griffin Inn in Oswestry for our tea at 5 pm. We don't go weekly but we are regulars. The pub is lovely, with a cozy and welcoming atmosphere. The food is consistently nice, fresh and home-cooked, all at reasonable prices. A special mention goes to the young man behind the bar, who always provides excellent service and is particularly good with my daughter. If you're looking for a pleasant dining experience, I highly recommend giving the Griffin Inn a try.

We were heading to Wales to climb Snowdon and needed a dinner stop in Oswestry to take advantage of the superchargers in the Horsemarket car park which is 5 minutes walk from the Griffin. From the outside it is very unassuming and the sort of place that we might ordinarily have walked past. However having looked at the online menu, it looked great and we had booked a table in advance. This turned out to be an excellent choice. Entering the pub it felt very much like one of those "local pubs for local people" but was welcoming and cosy. The staff are very friendly and we soon had food ordered. Three halloumi skewers and a signature burger. I was going to have a steak but then I saw the signature burger being served to another table and my mind was changed. The wait was spot on, and when the food arrived we were very very pleasantly surprised. It was absolutely outstanding. The signature burger is one of the best burgers I have ever had. Really good cuts of meat. Fresh tasty bacon, and excellent beef patty and delicious chicken. The chips cooked to perfection crisp and not oily. The rest of my family were similarly thrilled with their halloumi kebabs and chips. The menu is broad with lots of choice for vegetarians. This pub is an absolute "must visit" for a good meal and a lovely place to have a drink and a rest.

So what have we got ? A little pub down a side street in Oswestry which 9 times out of 10 you would walk straight past.... big mistake. Looked on Tripadvisor whilst on holiday with my wife for somewhere to eat one night and this had great reviews. Lovely friendly welcome by the guy i believe who runs the place and the girl behind the bar, 3 Tuns beer on tap so that was a great start. We both ordered fish and chips with mushy peas and tartare sauce which was huge, lovely crispy batter and good chips, the fish nearly overlapped on to the next table it was that big, you will not go hungry here. We then had sticky toffee pudding with custard, could do with a slight tweaking as it was more treacle pudding, mentioned to the guy running the pub and he apologised and said he would mention it to the chef, saying that it still tasted dam good. Noticed all the meals coming out and everyone of them looked great and i thought i should have had that then thought the same thing again when the next meal passed me. The pub was full on a Tuesday night with people eating, quite a rare sight these days, as i say if you serve good food people will ALWAYS return. Will return again for sure when in that neck of the woods.

I'd rate this as ok at best. It's confusing as to how you order a meal. They're supposed to come to your table if you've reserved one, but we had to go and ask. We both had sirloin steaks, mine rare, my wife well done. Hers was chewy all the way through, mine had some gristle and was hard to cut in places. A somewhat stingy amount of chips and they forgot the onion rings until halfway through. Doubt if I'll go back.

Just left after having plenty of lovely meals here in past, this will be the last visit. Bar area full however only one other table in the restaurant having food, service was extremely slow..we ended up leaving after waiting nearly 40mins for our mains to be cleared to order desert, waited 40 mins for the food to start with. We wouldn't mind when busy however, focus is on the bar only. Strong smelling substances clearly being used (greeted with this on the main entrance) here so very unpleasant for a family visit.

Stayed in flat above. Old tourist attraction leaflets in plastic wallets. An old folilo folder with more old crap in. Everything old and mostly unnecessary. No idea where to put rubbish bags when full. No welcome pack. Just stupid questions on initial phone call asking if we sleeping in separate rooms due to snoring or in the same room as a couple ???? And some old advice on Sat Nav that was not an issue and does NOT take you through Ford. Clearly some idiots have come this way. No politeness. Just moaning if you ring on a Sunday evening and the owner wants "quiet" time after only working 3 days a week. Yet was going to ring on the Monday morning. What when people are driving travelling to location??? ??? πŸ™„. NOT a quiet location as a local hanging out place even 7pm in the evening. With cars honking to each other. Delivery van honking every morning going next door. Motorbike next door starting in morning and returning 10pm at night. Who ever the imbecile is with heavy boots/footfalls that keeps on going into cafe when it is shut and slamming door every day. Neighbouring property busy and constant visitors. Ridiculous. Definitely would not stay again. Same idiot owner who asked stupid questions half way through holiday knocked on the door and asked us to move our vehicles into a field just for the customers over the weekend. Even though the cafe shuts at 4pm so no-one will be here. And we have paid for the parking as advertised on hoseasons. Only good points. Well equipped with necessities. Value for money.
