This is my first experience here, its reminded me that there's still experiences that make nights our worth it! The welcoming front of house Tamsin greeted us and settled my nerves in a new place. After the starter the whole night was amazing, standards were high and Charlotte who personally looked after us, nothing was a problem. Thank you we will he back x As the quality of food speaks for its self

The food was outstanding and the service was excellent. All the staff were extremely friendly and seemed dedicated to ensuring we had a great meal and experience. It was quite expensive but not extortionate, as the saying goes you get what you pay for. The whole experience was great from the moment we arrived to when we departed.

Normally staying at this hotel, dinner is included, and the menu is changed every day. The restaurant is well seated, good room for the tables, best to find a time which has a low attendance then relax with the open fire for extra's.

My wife and I had been bought an Afternoon Tea Birthday by our daughter and son in law. What a wonderful place in a truly beautiful, peaceful, rural location. Both our sandwiches and scones were fantastic. The the hotel staff were extremely friendly and helpful. We had a wonderful time and I would recommend this hotel.

This was our second visit and lived up to our expectations. This was our first venture out after lockdown and all necessary precautions were taken but unobtrusive and we felt very secure. This hotel really is a haven of tranquility. The service in all areas is attentive and from the minute you arrive you are made to feel very welcome. The greatest highlight is the quality of the food served. The menu is changed daily and there is an excellent selection to suit all. This hotel represents excellent value for money on their dinner bed and breakfast rate. I would like to thank all the staff for making our first stay after lockdown so enjoyable. This is definitely a hotel we will be returning to in the near future.

We had high hopes of a delightful stay, having chosen a ‘Master grade’ room in the main house. While the staff couldn’t be more helpful, and the evening meals were as good as any food we’ve eaten, the room (Rose) was very disappointing, and badly in need of a refurb. Wallpaper was split and peeling, window paint badly flaking, (with an ample supply of dead flies), light fittings wonky, an antique, ugly trouser press .... . On the up side, the bathroom was great, and the bed comfortable. For the premium price, we expected much better.

What a gem. We were so pleased we stayed here. It is in a lovely spot, ideal for walking from and visiting attractions in the area. The bedroom was very well equipped and the bed was extremely comfortable, had the best nights sleep I have had for a long time. The tea and scones were very welcome at teatime. Having a predinner drink sitting in cosy settees with a log fire. And as for the dinner it was superb and served beautifully. We travelled with a friend who is on a dairy free diet and the choice for her was the best she has ever had. And the choices at breakfast were wonderful, which we had stayed for more than one night as it was so wonderful.

Can't recommend this hotel highly enough! Really friendly welcome with tea and scones in front of the fire. Rooms spotless and a good size. Bed very comfy - I had the best night's sleep in months! The hotel only has fourteen rooms so it felt really cosy Ate in their restaurant - simply amazing. We all had a cauliflower veloute appetiser, then three courses which included: Devon crab salad, warm put lentil and almond salad, wild mushroom and spinach wheel to name a few. Menu changes daily. Breakfast also stunning - full English and full veggie English, haddock, tarragon mushrooms. I could go on! Hotel ideally located for walks around the countryside; the hotel will even make you a packed lunch! An exceptional hotel; well done to the staff!

We have stayed here on two previous occasions . The dinner was excellent as ever . I had beautifully soft pork loin and pork belly and my vegetarian wife says her celeriac based main course was delicious. Cream teas should be taken well before dinner time.

The hotel is located on the side of a quiet valley, in a beautiful location. The interior is a little dated. The dining room is light and attractive but they only seemed to use two thirds of the available space so as a consequence we felt the tables were a little too close together. The menu is short and seasonal. My partner is a non meat eater, and the kitchen were kind enough to change a dish to accommodate her. Regrettably most of the food served was quite bland. Despite being nicely plated, none of the dishes tasted of nothing. The staff are friendly and service is attentive.

I've read a number of the reviews. Overall I agree with them. The food is very good. The menu is set each day, so the chef is keeping everything fresh. The products are largely sourced locally from what I am told. The staff is extremely pleasant. We had some basic Italian Pinot Grigio. It was good. The menu set is priced out however at the whole meal. You get 5 courses for a fixed price. If you want to add cheese platters, tea or coffee you can for an added price. We did not add those. We had chicken and risotto as main courses. Overall everything was tasty. My reason for giving a 4 is because of the lack of ability to shorten the menu if you don't want to spend as much. With tip it was £120 for 2 of us.

Returned to celebrate my wifes birthday after 12yrs , previously spent 3 weekends there. Was so pleased to find that Miles and Audrey have maintained such a high standard, the customer service was excellent from start to finish and the food was agin excellent. The situation and location of the Pen-y-Dryffryn is idillic every month of the year, with a great variety of things to do and see on its doorstep and in my opinion is a hidden gem and one which I hope to visit again.

Went there for a special celebratory meal and it didn't disappoint. This small, charming hotel is located in a quiet, secluded rural location - a hidden gem! Although we did not stay, it seemed the perfect peaceful retreat. We enjoyed our aperitifs in one of their comfortable lounges before going into the restaurant. The five-course set meal was delightful - all beautifully cooked with attentive service. However, if you do have particular dietary needs I suggest you phone beforehand, as the choices were limited.Although they change the menu daily, we can recommend the smoked haddock velouté, crab terrine, bream and chocolate fondant. After the meal, we retired to another lounge for coffee. Altogether rather a luxury and very indulgent!

Went here a couple of weeks ago with some friends. Service was first rate from the moment we entered the building from the very attentive staff. A good number of options on the menu, almost too difficult to choose! Portion sizes were just right given the number of courses. A lovely, leisurely evening. We will be going back!

food and service were fabulous. There wasn't anything on the menu we didn't want to try. We ordered drinks in the bar and had canapés before our meal. The menu was four courses with a choice to suit all tastes. The food was delicious and well presented. As the portions were of sensible size we were all able to manage dessert. Choice of wine was excellent. Location is in rural Shropshire and is worth visiting for the views and garden setting.

It's been two years since I've been to Pen-y-Dyffryn Country Hotel and finally I manage to go back to this wonderful place. Nothing change since last time and I'm glad for that. Once you open the door you're greeted by a beautiful smile, warm scones and tea. This time we stay in the champagne room in the main building, large bedroom with a kingsize bed, lovely views to the garden, nice bathroom with a "kingsize" jacuzzi bath big enough for three people and large walking shower. Our dinner consisted of ballottine of wild sea trout and terrine of venison for starter then fish trio and for the first time ever for me the vegetarian option which was very tasty and filling, for pudding my choice was the banana parfait and cheesecake for my wife. Everything was cooked too perfection and very tasty. Can't wait to go back. Thank you very much.

Four of us went for supper. Lovely place nestled away in the Welsh countryside. Staff were lovely and attentive. The food was very good but not perfect. Little apple and celery soup was lovely. The lobster ravioli was perfectly cooked but could have had more flavour. The potted shrimp didn't really work and was flavourless. The beef and fowl, however, was fantastic. Good pudding and perfect Welsh malt whisky to finish the evening. The bill was £300 for the four of us, so quite pricey. Overall the experience was excellent and we look forward to going back again. Recommended.

I have recently dined here again after missing many years and I was so pleased to find that it still has the charm and excellence that I remembered from some time ago. My late wife and myself used it for our wedding breakfast many years ago and that was quite something to remember we did go back occasionally and were never disappointed, Miles is a real gent and has some wonderful and dedicated staff working for him, I cannot emphasize enough the genuine quality of this beautiful hotel suffice to say I will be back again shortly.

We just went for the food and this was rewarded mostly. The appetiser was a mini cup of soup, fun to have a tiny portion. I had a goats cheese and tomato tart which was fine and then a pithivier which was also pastry so a poor choice from my point of view. I should have asked what it was. My partner had mackerel pate to start and guinea fowl for a main. We both had Welsh cakes with cream and berries for desert. I didn't really eat a very balanced meal but that was my own doing. Everything we had was fine.

Fantastic. Dan the chef is amazing. The food served here is all freshly cooked, and the quality of the ingredients is far superior to your local pub chain. It speaks volumes about Dans' ability as both a chef....and I mean a chef, not cook,........and also a teacher, that the students he teaches, and passes his knowledge on to, can produce such amazing food consistently, all whilst having an elementary knowledge of their trade. Origins is a restaurant run by Chefs. Do yourself a favour and try for yourself. It's a hidden gem, and half the price of some pretentious pubs in town

As a local, we try to support our local establishments and I've debated whether to write this review but over the last few visits, it has remained disappointing. The venue has been trying a few different approached to attract new customers and for that, it must be praised. We have been for brunch on multiple occasions, the food is always excellent. Our visit today was cut short as, despite booking a table for two adults with two children which were in highchairs (which we included in the notes on our booking), we were told that they only had one highchair (which we know not to be true as we usually use two). We said we could try and make it work as our toddler could sit in a big chair - not ideal but having made the trip to come out for brunch, we wanted to make it work. We were then told we couldn't have the one remaining highchair because someone was using it. It wasn't so much the situation that annoyed me, it was how very little the staff seemed to care. Even upon explaining my frustration, the staff member just seemed annoyed that I'd raised the issue - so we just left. This unfortunately isn't the first time we've had poor service here and despite trying again and again to help a local business, we won't be returning.

This is a truly lovely place with a nice atmosphere. I asked them to host a wake, and the owners were incredible- unbelievably helpful, from adapting the menu to providing a television, right down to returning lost property. Food was brilliant too, and the prices good. Can’t recommend enough.

Had Sunday lunch here. Staff were so friendly and helpful, squeezing us in at the last minute. The roast was delicious! And they were happy to make up a vegetarian option for 2 of our children. The puddings were amazing and big portions... If you get the chance to try the bara brith bread and butter pudding you really should! Highly recommend.
