My wife and I came during the day while visiting Castle Comb and had a fantastic experience. The staff when out of their way to be friendly and engaging. We were struggling to get a taxi and the wonderful woman at reception called about 10 numbers to find us one. It was such a positive experience and I hope to come back one day.

The staff were cheerful and friendly, and we enjoyed soft scones with clotted cream and jam. The hot chocolate for the kids was delicious too. The brownie could have been a bit less sweet, but the cheesecake was lovely. It's a good place to stop after seeing Haytor in Dartmoor National Park. (8 minutes by car) There is a paid parking lot (ÂŁ1.90 for 2 hours) opposite the cafe, but coins are the only option, so if you want to pay by card, grab the cafe's wifi (no password) and use Ringgo. You can pay through the app. It's a soft, crumbly style scone, and it's large so you can eat one per person. Only the cream tea set (tea + scone + jam/cream) is listed on the menu, but you can also order the scone alone (jam/cream costs extra). It doesn't taste amazing, but the staff is friendly and it's easy to enjoy.

My wife and I were I the area for a wedding. We are not locals by any stretch. Whilst I can find things to eat anywhere my wife has medical issues that heavily impact on her dietary options. We were directed to this place by the bride. She goes there regularly after walks along the Tyne with her, now, husband. I emailed the venue the previous day asking if they could do her a very cheesy omelette. I was assured that she could indeed have a very cheesy omelette. It is worthy of note that I contacted several locations in similar terms. Only Staithes responded. It is a little out of the way. I was concerned that the Satnav had got it wrong as were directed into a housing estate. However, the venue was where it was meant to be. It is clearly popular. Young, old, parents, dog walkers- all represented. There are two floors but we stayed downstairs. I have read of issues with dogs on seats which upset one visitor. I ama dog lover but would be similarly unimpressed had we experienced that. Fortunately the dogs were well behaved. Ordering took a while as there was a queue. We drew a fair bit of attention as we were all suited and booted for the wedding whilst jeans, jumpers and coats were the order of the day for everyone else. I had a sausage sandwich which was lovely. My wife had a very cheesy omelette and hash browns. Unfortunately her experience was not so positive. Her hash browns were not good at all. Her omelette was very disappointing. Part of it was significantly undercooked. We did not pursue the matter as we wanted to find our way to the wedding in good time. It is a pity that I have to be less than completely complimentary because the venue is well placed for walkers. It is clean, the menu boards are humourous, the staff I spoke to were friendly and polite. However, 1 out of 2 customers on my table were not happy. I hope that they can sort it out as it could be really great. Currently I have to say the potential is great but the execution is lacking.

A restaurant filled with bizarre rules and an extremely terrible experience. I found this restaurant online hoping to try some local Lake District lamb. When we walked in at 5:30 PM, we were told there would be no available seats until after 8 PM. We understood, as we hadnât made a reservation. During the two and a half hour wait, we went to another restaurant for a light meal. Finally, at 8 PM, we were seated and ready to order, only to be told that all three of us had to order a main course. We kindly explained that we had already eaten something during the wait and just wanted to sample the Lake District lamb. However, the waitress informed us (and mentioned it was her first time hearing about this rule) that the kitchen had insisted three people must order three main courses since this is a family restaurant and a difficult place to book, and every customer comes here wanting to try their food. I understand the waitressâs position, but I strongly condemn the kitchen for their arrogant and ugly attitude. If you have such a rule, please clearly display it in the restaurant instead of springing unreasonable demands on customers after theyâve waited so long. This kind of behavior, treating customers as if they should feel honored just to eat here, is truly nauseating. Donât act as if your food is some gift youâre graciously bestowing upon us; itâs just a meal â donât take yourselves so seriously. No one else does.

Not our first visit to the King's Arms, certainly won't be our last. Sunday Roast is delicious. One vegetarian, one chicken. Both SoOoo good. Service is fast, efficient and friendly. There was a very large party of diners getting ready to leave as we arrived. We were seated promptly and given our menus. Once the revellers had vacated the staff cleared/cleaned/re-laid in a speedy and efficient manner. Putting everything to rights for the next sitting of diners. And in they came. We were all served quickly with true efficiency.
