Great little cafe serving authentic fresh food . Good portion size using fresh ingredients . Only 2 tables to sit at but I guess more people get take out if we lived in darton that’s what we would do . This is a cafe with paper plates so don’t expect restaurant decor etc but the food served with great smiles in s better than some expensive Thai restaurants we have been to and the price is very reasonable. Visited before and will return

Called here for take out on a rainy Saturday afternoon and after a mix up which was probably more our fault than theirs, we left with a mixed starter, beef massaman curry and tom yum noodles. Absolutely delicious food. Complex and fragrant flavours which were very quickly polished off. Highly recommend it and will definitely be calling again.

Gorgeous, restaurant quality food at cafe prices, all freshly cooked while you sit at the table or takeaway. Well worth the hours round trip from home. 😊

This little cafe tucked away in Darton seems to be under new management & the interior has been upgraded. What hasn’t changed is the fantastic Thai food to takeaway. If you ask for spicy, wow you get spicy! Authentic, generous portions & super tasty.

Went to friends for a takeaway night and a catch up. Never heard of Vera's before and 7 of us ate and all loved our food. Lovely, tasty and all correct too which is never known these days from takeaways especially as they are so busy with Covid. Would highly recommend and we will be visiting again:)

This is our favourite takeaway by fair. Food is so tasty and fresh. My kids absolutely love it too. So much choice. I can not recommend enough. When ever my family come to stay they always ask for a Vera's! Such a good price too, great value. Thank you

So pleased that I can still get a spicy Thai takeaway during the current lockdown. They do everything with Social Distancing, which is safe & reassuring & obviously takeaway only. The Larb salad was amazing.

Ordered a takeaway that consisted of three main dishes (one curry, one noodle and one rice). All the food was hot, fresh and delicious! It's so nice to have such a good eatery down the road! Will definitely be ordering from here again!

Visited with a couple of friends. Was highly recommend by one of my friends. It didn't disappoint. Ordered the Pad Thai which was really good. I've had it at more pricey restaurants before but not as nicely flavoured as this one. The chicken satays were really good too. Good value for money as including a drink it was barely over a tenner. It is certainly no frills but the staff were friendly, the atmosphere was lively and the food was very good.

I have passed Vera' s many times and also heard some very good reviews about the place , but j had never has chance to go in. I met a friend here today and we had lunch. How impressed was I. Very good food and very friendly staff Its a cafe that does breakfast items but we had Thai. Very tasty, a bit strange having it with a cup of tea but excellent food. It's a cafe surrounding but very busy. I cannot recommend this place enough.

Another day fantastic visit to Veras. As always the food was lovely, the service was great and all the staff are so lovely and friendly. Really can’t fault this place at all.

Gave this place a try after hearing good things about it. My girlfriend ordered a noodle dish and I ordered a chicken red curry. Hers tasted really nice and she enjoyed it but mine was just so salty I struggled to eat it. Shame really as it looked really nice. Will give it another go as it could have been a one off and perhaps try a different dish.

Tucked away and small but lovely food and reasonable. If you are in a hurry don't bother they cook fresh so it takes time. Thai food properly cooked. I've been for six years sometimes three times a week need I say more.

What a strange little place! Food was great, both oriental and english, it seems that they will make things however you like. Cheap too.

After visiting a local Hostelry and being delivered a burnt breakfast we left and went to our usual haunt. The staff are friendly and helpful. The food Is delicious, although I’ve not tried the Thai food as yet, but will do soon

What can I say other than excellent! Had a takeaway for the family and it didn’t disappoint. The food was amazing, just like been back in Thailand. Staff are professional and welcoming and the cafe is spotlessly clean. Will definitely be going back, would highly recommend.

Paid a visit to Vera’s Cafe on Saturday if you like plush surroundings this place isn’t for you ... but you’ll miss out on a treat! The food is REALLY good and the staff are lovely... 4 adults 3 starters 4 mains and 4 cans of pop £39!! Definitely going back

Really good fully home cooked food from fresh, no sign of the prepackaged frozen generic stuff that seems to be what a lot of Asian restaurants are serving (heating up). Unassuming location and venue but very well priced and a bargain considering the quality and freshness of the cooking.

Just a takeaway with a few tables in a former mining village but the food is delicious and very good value. Handy for the Yorkshire sculpture park and Cannon Hall museum. Right by Darton railway station.

Most people looking for Thai food would pass this one by and they are missing a treat. What was once a village cafe has transformed itself into the best Thai in the area. You can still get the standard British fayre (breakfast, omlettes etc.) and good it is as well. All food is cooked fresh to order so there is a little wait, so what! But the Thai food is second to none. Its always busy which shows how good it is. My advice is go and try it you won't be disappointed!

Fantastic Thai food in Barnsley. I’d challenge anyone to find better more authentic Thai in Yorkshire.

Cheap and cheerful. Excellent authentic food in a cafe setting. You may have to wait for your food but that's because it is ALWAYS busy, and quite rightly. Worth the wait though.

This place is just a run of the mill cafe but Thai people run it and the Thai food they serve is 2nd to none it’s actually like being over there. Get there early because it gets very busy

Absolutely fantastic Thai food that is open in the day! So good in fact that myself and my work colleagues have had this twice this week for lunch and will be doing the same again tomorrow! Really fresh cooked ingredients and massive portions at a really good price! So glad we found this place it really is a hidden gem

We visited today and I had the chicken with noodles in a soy sauce and my partner had a duck dish with rice. It was cooked to perfection, so fresh and tasty. A true hidden gem for the town and a great taste of Thailand! Extremely reasonably priced, this was my first visit by my partners been a couple times and now I just want to go back and sample all the money! You feel full after finishing your meal. They also do English dishes aswell such as a full large English breakfast for £4! Very friendly and warm staff and atmosphere. I love this place!

A star tasting food at very inexpensive prices at this lovely little cafe/restaurant. Chicken satay starter with sweet chilly was amazing, Beef noodle soup also amazing. Both for under a tenner . The staff are polite and friendly too we took our own alcohol which they dont mind as long as we take the empty bottles away. Plenty of room on our 4 seater table for everything. The place is quite basic but do not let this put you off. All food is cooked fresh so be prepared for a little wait but will be worth every minute.

My other half spotted this place when getting off the train in Darton so we decided to give it a go. I had the Tom yum soup and he had a noodle dish... wow! The flavours were amazing; so fragrant and spicy, it really is probably the best I have had since I was in Thailand. The two Thai ladies in the kitchen came to have a chat with us and they were just lovely! Very passionate about the food. We can’t wait to return and start working our way through the menu.

Me and a friend gave the place a go and weren't disappointed. The food took a bit but when it came was all red hot and fresh so it's worth the wait. Spring rolls were amazing followed by tofu curry and all at a great price (£14 for 2 curries and rice, spring rolls, chips and drinks). It is a very casual no frills dining experience but if you're a food lover this is the place. I'll be back

We have regularly had take aways from here but we made the effort and sat in the cafe last night for dinner. The food, the flavours and the service were as perfect as always.

My nephew had recommended Vera's Cafe to us on several occasions and to convince 6 of us in the family how good it is. He drove over to Darton to collect 6 different dishes from their menu for us to try. We were all very impressed by the different flavours and styles of food we selected. I like Thai food but sometimes it can be a bit samey but it was obvious that each of the dishes on Vera's menu were individually prepared using fresh ingredients. My favourite was the duck in red curry sauce, but the rest was almost as good. I can't wait to sample everything else from the menu - probably at the small cafe itself.

Fantastic breakfast once again. Freshly prepared and lovely and hot. One large breakfast, one small breakfast, 2 slices of toast each and 2 coffees all for under £10.00. Can't beat this for value. Staff are very friendly. Would definitely recommend.

Massive conflict of purpose with an enchanting outcome. Quaint little cafe by day, Thai restaurant by night. The food is all freshly prepared and cooked and the staff are a pleasure to be served by. We go every month now.

Who would have thought you could get such amazing quality Thai food in a corner caf in Darton and at such a good price !! The starters were fresh and plentiful and the mains , red curry , and pad Thai were so so tasty , the red curry had such depth of favour with a good fiery after kick !! . Staff great , friendly and efficient . Will be going again, very soon

This is a cheap and cheerful café near the station, parking a problem at busy times. Food excellent with lots of choices but massive portions, a lot of spicy food, mainly thai, but English as well. Not posh but excellent value.

Vera's is the bomb ! If you like well cooked traditional Thai food then you won't get it any better than this. Service is always friendly and the staff are happy to explain any dishes or give any advice. We have eaten in , had a take away and had a catering service for a house party that we had last year. I haven't got a negative comment to make. We take all our friends there that are visiatimg is from elsewhere. Vera's always gets the thumbs up ! Thai green curry , chicken laab and masaman are a few of our favourites.

This place was recommended by a relative. I have driven this road hundreds of times and never noticed the place but, believe me when I say, it is rare gem and well worth a visit. I went for a takeaway at around 6.30pm yesterday and the eat-in part of the cafe was heaving with customers even then. Although you may have to wait a short while at busy times (the food is all cooked fresh to order), just grab a hot or cold drink, take a seat and enjoy the busy atmosphere (or telephone ahead). It is worth the wait - the food is some of the best I have had in some time, is very reasonably priced and the portions are generous - I shall be finishing off my pad thai and red curry today. Recommended without hesitation to any lover of thai cuisine. Well done to May and all her staff!

Went with friends yesterday for lunch having heard great things. Wow. Freshly cooked tasty Thai food. No wonder this place is so busy. It's a cafe that sells restaurant quality Thai food. Everything that was being served looked delicious. Mine was outstanding. Cannot wait to go back.

I have been wanting to come here for ages. Called in today for late lunch, omg, so glad we did . 3 of us and a baby ( highchair provided) thank you ladies. The food was divine, i have sneaky feeling my kids will be back on Saturday for breakfast.

The Best Thai EVER!!!!The red thai curry is Amazing ♡We all love coming to this little cafe either for a scrummy full breakfast on a sat morning or a thai take away on a sat night!!!

We ordered another fab Thai takeaway on a Friday night & we had to wait over an hour before we could collect they were that busy. Good luck to them, their good is excellent & they deserve all the success in the world!

Myself and 2 friends walked in here at 12.40 on Tuesday 14th for lunch. The cafe usually serves till 4 and there was no sign or notice on the FB page to say otherwise. We were 'barked' at I can't say told or spoken to it was a vicious - 'Were not serving - you go' The lady in question didn't even take the time to come over to our table she just shouted it across the cafe. I ve eaten there many times before and don't expect silver service but it was humiliating to be yelled at in front of friends and the rest of the dinners. So rude.

I've wanted to visit Vera's for some time but have never really been sure of the opening times on an evening / weekend. I was aware it's a cafe that serves English Breakfasts and also Thai food. Over Christmas I was able to visit mid week. There were groups of 'workmen' having their breaks in their work wear and then small groups of ladies 'lunching'. The menus are basic printing etc and there are handwritten signs on the walls with some photos. I was able to get a good idea of what the dishes were and would have like to try many of the dishes. I was really happy with my choice of Thai dish and my friends were pleased with theirs. I saw some of the food presented to other tables and it looked stunning. The staff were conciencious but not very friendly. I read a sign that states you can BYO alcohol, not mixers (these must be purchased on site). This idea appealed to me and I hope to plan a further visit in the early evening and enjoy the delicious Thai food with a glass of wine or two and possibly without the workmen. The cafe was very busy and we felt obliged to leave as there were people waiting for tables so if you're planning a relaxing lunch then perhaps avoid busy lunchtimes. Would definitely recommend.

Quirky little place, called in for Sunday breakfast on way home after a Saturday night out, delicious fresh food, beautifully served and great friendly funny staff!

Went for the first time today on a recommendation. A busy little place. Three of us for lunch all ordering different Thai foods. We were treated to freshly cooked food, each was full of flavour with some new tastes for me. Excellent value @ £ 20 for food and drinks with professional service. My daughter said it was the best Thai food she has ever eaten. Note they don't take cards but also do take aways. Definitely shall be returning.

A true butty shop. Absolutely lovely sandwiches. Full of taste and packed to busting. Brilliant choice all round just about anything is available. Friendly staff and real opening times - open all the time!

You can get a good breakfast, spicy noodle soup or lots of other Thai food. All day breakfast is great (they do a vegetarian option as well). The Thai food is excellent and authentic. Bring your own alcohol if dining in the evening. Also check their Facebook page for photos of their food and to check on their opening hours (which can sometimes vary).

We had heard good things about May's Thai food and we were not disappointed.It is a local cafe but has an extensive authentic Thai menu. 2 of us like real spice and had Beef Laab salad then 2 curry specials without coconut milk - jungle curry style - very good. Our lass had 6 Thai fish cakes and Penang Curry, great flavour. It is not a romantic dinner date venue

Popped in with my beloved today for lunch as we fancied something different & read previous great reviews on here. It's a very clean, honest 'greasy spoon' style cafe that does exceptionally good Thai food. It has no airs & graces, no frills but the food wowed us. We were sitting amongst workmen, some eating 'full English', students discussing college & several couples like us. The place was full, always a good sign.The Thai food was delicious, very hot & cooked freshly to order.I had fishcakes to start, Himself had the starter platter for 1, both generous portions and only £3 each.We both had Thai Green curry with sticky jasmine rice, I had the chicken version & he had mixed meat. Wow!!!!! It was absolutely delicious, an enormous portion with loads of succulent meat & fresh vegetables. It was hot! Hot! Hot!I'm not sure if this is usual, I'm no Thai food expert -it made our eyes run but we ate every morsel as it was exquisite & full of flavour. Two starters, two mains & two drinks, bargain at £18. We absolutely cannot wait to go back and try something else even though we haven't heard of most of the dishes on the menu. A hidden gem we wish we'd found ages ago.

This is by far the most authentic thai place around. The quality and taste of food is amazing.It's definitely a hidden gem.The staff are so friendly and will do what they can to meet customer needs.Food is always served fresh, hot and so tasty.It's certainly the best thai food in this part of the country.The prices charged are extremely reasonable. Please don't follow another thai cafe in south Yorkshire and raise your prices. We love this place and often call in after a morning of shopping in Barnsley.

Well well well, what a treat this place this. I feel lucky to have been told about this place as it truly is a hidden gem. A couple of buddies stumbled across this place while out on their bikes. I cannot big this place up enough, the food here is delicious. I've not sat in to eat, we got a take away. Its unbelievably cheap, your looking about £4 to £5 for a main meal. The menu is vast and there is so much to choose from. I live in Wakefield so its a bit of a drive, but well worth it. I think we spent about £30 and got 7 dishes. The food speaks for itself. You would think it was just a greasy spoon from the outside, this is a prime example of why you should never judge a book by its cover. You will not be dissaponted

Some friends recently recommended Vera's to us and we weren't disappointed. The table had been set with flowers for a special occasion and was a wonderful surprise. The food was very good value for money and we particularly enjoyed the Chicken Satay to start and Red Curry Duck. The cafe had a very homely atmosphere and we particularly enjoyed the waitress on roller skate wheels and the Chef taking time to talk to us after our meal. This place is a hidden gem in the heart of Darton and well worth a visit. We will definitely be going back.

My friend and I went for lunch and were really pleased with the authenticity of the Thai food . My friend who is from Thailand was very happy to have a taste of home and such good value for money. As others have said, from the outside this place looks like any old greasy spoon but inside you will find cheap and tasty Thai food alongside the sausage and bacon sandwiches. The food is great and at around £4-5 per meal it does represent fabulous value. Whilst we were in lots of people came to collect takeaways which I think you can order up until 9pm on a Friday and Saturday night.

First time customer so it wasn't until other customers arrived that we realised that there was no waitress order service. Ordered as soon as we could but five customers who ordered after us were served before us. Having said that - it was worth the wait. Delicious Thai food at ridiculously low prices.

Ignore the 'meany' who scored this place down for a wait for a bacon sandwich, the Thai food here is fantastic & as good as anything served up in Bangkok. And at Bangkok prices!If they are serving breakfast too, then these guys are working long hours to make a decent living. Keep up the the good work, your place is amazing!!

I'm going to try this place again, because granted - I only popped in for a takeaway breakfast. Therefore, I'm not exactly qualified to rate and review their food (of which includes a large variety of authentic Thai dishes). You might be saying "why not review it when you've tried again, then?" and you would be right, but it's a gloomy Sunday and I have nothing better to do. I've passed Vera's Cafe many times and I've also had it recommended to me, often. It's a bit of a strange set-up really, it's a British greasy-spoon crossed with a Thai restaurant/take-out. From what I gathered, they appear to serve mostly phone orders for collection. I was greeted by a friendly-enough young girl, no complaints there, all was polite. Then, 15 passed. Then 20. Still no sign of my boring-choice. It's also an open kitchen, so we all know what's been cooked - and it wasn't my heart-disease sandwich. Dishes were been served left right and center, a couple in the corner managed to get served, eat up and leave before I even heard my egg sizzling. Fair enough, there IS a small sign that reads 'please be patient' but it's hard to conform when you've been waiting half-an-hour for the smallest and easiest option on the menu. Eventually it did come, wrapped up and hot. I forced a smile, said thank you and left.Considering the wait, I did expect to be jumping for joy. Praying to the gods of fast-food for what he/she has bestowed upon me. Instead, I wiped my mouth and shrugged. It was incredibly okay. Plain and simple, good ol' fashioned British breakfast. Nothing to rave about and nothing to rant about. I'll try some Thai next time, to which they were so desperate to cook and serve first.To their credit, the place did seem clean, considering the hustle-and-bustle of the busy kitchen.

We have been twice and will go again this was excellent both times. Great friendly staff and very cheerful. Good quality food and great portion sizes. Would recommend to others as this is reasonable prices and lots of choice
