A great cosy village pub. The staff are very friendly and pay good attention to their customers. The selection of drinks is very good and they always keep their lines clean. The price is very reasonable! They serve food on Thursdays, Fridays and Sunday. The place is dog friendly and a great place to end or start a country walk.

We arrived without booking (which we were advised to do in future) but the landlord welcomed us and we enjoyed a wonderful Sunday dinner with all the trimmings. It was all excellently cooked and presented by two young waitresses without undue delay. We also indulged in two excellent puddings - bread and butter for my husband and mine was Spotted Dick with custard! Both first rate. We will try to come again but we don't go that way too often. it is definitely worth a small detour from the A1 near Colsterworth. Excellent value for money.

Thankyou very much to the staff and customers at The Fox and Hounds for making our one night stop over a very nice evening. We felt welcomed by everyone and although this is clearly a village pub for locals we in no way felt like we were being watched or judged by anyone for the entire night. Danny the landlord and Holly behind the bar very friendly and we had our drinks, made a bit of small talk and took a pizza back to our accommodation and quite simply we could not have asked for more. Thankyou

A lovely village pub with a beer garden. The inside is nicely decorated but for a Saturday early doors we didn't feel very welcome. The atmosphere very much felt like we were imposters to a group of locals, and the landlord wasn't talkative with no smile during service.

Don’t get me wrong the pub is okay. It’s a bit dated and it’s very popular with the locals, but the Sunday lunch is not very good. So I don’t really recommend the food here and I found it very clicky. Unpleasant. It’s got a very large car park and a small area of a beer garden.

We visited the Fox and Hounds in Castle Bytham after the Covid lockdown was lifted. The pub has had a full makeover! The bar and restaurant look fantastic and the refurbished outdoor seating area is ideal for a safe pub visit. The staff have been well trained for reopening with new social distancing regulations, and the whole place is really clean and well maintained. The regular beers are back along with some really tasty visiting ales. The menu is slowly regrowing as the team get used to the new way of working. We love the Fox and are looking forward to the return of the Sunday roast, this Sunday. Over lockdown the refurbishment was completed and it looks fantastic. The Fox is a village pub with friendly staff and customers, a good range of gins and well kept draft beers. The garden provides outdoor seating and tables, an alternative to indoor dinning and the garden provides a pleasant place to relax on a sunny day. We enjoyed takeaways from the Fox during lockdown, but happy the doors are open again for Danny, the family and team to welcome customers once again. A fantastic pub.

Although this Village Pub has an almost understated ambiance about it, there is a very good reason to try their Sunday Roast. I can honestly say that, having sampled Sunday lunches in the area for many years, the Fox and Hounds is one of the best. They don't need to advertise either because 'word of mouth' has given their reputation a real boost. A number of friends have sampled their cooking as a result of these excellent reports. Lastly don't ask how they make their gravy as it's a closely guarded secret! It is most delicious and completes what can only be described as a very satisfactory traditional English experience.

A quintessentially English village pub, family run, warm and welcoming! Danny and Jo are very welcoming to all even the fur babies can come in as long as they behave! For the best value Sunday lunch at £6.95 you get a great plate full. Choice is limited to either beef or pork one week or beef and lamb the following but the plate of food served up is not disappointing with a good array of veg, the roast potatoes are the best I have ever tasted and as for the gravy, like Betty's Hotpot will we ever find out the secret how Mum, Di, makes it taste sooo good! With a good choice of real ales, good wines and even a cocktail for when it's 5 O clock somewhere there is something for everyone mixed with witty banter it all makes for a very happy atmosphere.

This is a small country pub that has excellent beer but makes no pretensions to be a "gourmet" venue. What you get is good fresh food cooked when you order it using local produce whenever possible. It is my "local" so I count myself a frequent visitor and have tried most of the menu.

Food very over priced and very poor quality, I had what amounted to was mushrooms on a slice of toast for a starter, containing about 3 halves of mushrooms! Lack of choice when it came to my vegetarian meal, over cooked and not much of it! My partner had gammon, which was what I would refer to as 'plastic' meat. Service was terrible, the wait was 'forever!' which to say there were only 2 of us and another couple was ludicrous! Never again!

I was bed and breakfasting in the area whilst seeing friends and having a break so this was a handy place to eat - anything from a snack to a full meal. The service was quick on most visits, the food good, the ambience ok and the toilets excellent. Also enjoyed the rabbits in the outside area (not to eat I hasten to add). For a 'chain pub' I was agreeably surprised. The only downsides for me were the music and the lack of vegetarian options on the menu (I'm 'cow intolerant' so can't eat cheese either) but I was able to have a sandwich minus the cheese.

For the price, the food is disappointing. My 12oz steak was quite thin and small, certainly didn't look like a 12oz. My friends quarter pound burger was bigger. I don't get the wedge of iceberg lettuce, seems like a lazy way to provide some salad. A quarter of grilled tomato.....most pubs serve at least a half tomato. Fries were dry and crunchy, better fries at McDonald's. Had to wait over half an hour before our pre-booked desert was served. I had the cheese and biscuits. Stilton, brie and camembert, all of which should be soft and at room temp. I think mine had just come out of the fridge. Too cold and firm to enjoy. Plenty of cheese but only four small crackers. All in all a disappointment, can't recommend and won't be visiting again. Better pub meals are available locally.

We ate at The Castle Inn with my daughter who is coeliac. We always check in advance that places understand that cross contamination is the danger - cooking in a kitchen where there has been gluten on a surface or in a shared container. For coeliacs for example, you cannot cook chips in fat that has had any glutened batter in it. You have to have fresh fat in a cleaned fryer. We have discovered that many high end restaurants like The Ivy don't manage to offer this so it was so heartening that The Castle was meticulous about her needs. When the menu didn't offer an option she could pick, they found something different, making her cheesy mashed potato from scratch. It was delicious and we are so grateful for their kindness. We shall definitely eat here again when we're in the area.
