Fantastic food and friendly service. We had the tapas and they were fabulosity! The prawns were huge and the calamari the best I’ve ever tasted. We’ve just moved to the village so we’re very lucky to have this as our local

Really appreciated having a Chinese treat during lockdown. Particularly enjoyed the sweet and sour pork- thanks Chef! We often buy the pies, sausage rolls and scotch eggs from the pantry and all are lovely. Thanks for providing a local pit stop and hope to visit soon when you’re back up and running!

This a real pub with lots of people drinking in the bar, small dogs running around and a general atmosphere of the old village pub. And this was a Tuesday night. We were a party of eight old fellows so we had a table in the tastefully furnished dining room. You can eat in the bar but the alternative is the dining room. The dining room is done out in Masonic Regalia which makes it rather different and quite special. We were looked after by a delightful young lady who found no difficulty coping with 8 old gents. The food was excellent. Will and Sue who run the pub say they are a pub serving good food and so it is. The food is good and not expensive, I I do not know who looks after the beer but it is well chosen and in perfect condition.

The Castle Inn provided a Chinese takeaway service in the height of the coronavirus. Not only was the food truly AMAZING but the importance of their customers service was fantastic. Everyone was allocated a dedicated slot to collect (although they did also offer a delivery service if needed). Sue met you at the door (2 metres apart) complete with blue gloves and a smile as always. To provide a high standard of food and safe takeaway service at this time certainly gives us all a bit of normality. Huge thanks to Sue, Will and John for giving my family and I a bit of normality in what can only be described as such a horrendous time is fabulous. Well done all of you

We have just got home after attending a wake at this pub. The food and service were second to non. We would like to mention especially the lady collecting glasses and clearing tables, she never stopped all night and did a great job. She was polite and courtesy as were the bar staff even though it was extremely busy. It was the first time we had been in this pub but we will be back, although in better circumstances! Thank you for making it special,Gordon

I had a wonderful fish dinner at the Castle last night. They have a newish chef, one of whose specialities is fish dishes, but to put a fish evening on round here was a bold idea, as not all locals like fish, but the evening was a great success and I hope they do it again. The mussels were fantastic and the halibut literally the best I’ve ever eaten, worldwide. Give this pub restaurant a try!

We stayed in Castle Bytham for three days and so enjoyed our first night meal at the Castle Inn we returned for our last evening. The staff were very friendly, helpful and efficient. The food quite exceptional especially the Steak and Ale pies which really were the best we have tasted in many years, absolutely delicious. Prices for food and drink were very reasonable. We were staying in nearby Stretton and were unable to get a booking at the pub next door to where we were staying. A result really, as this little gem of a pub made us most welcome. Good selection of ales and spirits and a very friendly welcome from staff and especially the resident dog, a very cute border terrier who came and sat beside me. I had the sirloin steak. Huge portion and cooked exactly as what requested. The family all had the steak and ale pie. Again very generous portions, and served outside the 'dish' at my father-in-laws request! Only confusion was that menu said it was served with mash and peas, but it was served with chunky chips. The staff did offer to check but we didn't want to wait as my steak was ready. Chips are great, but maybe check when ordering if you really want mash! Definitely would recommend.

What a lovely historic country pub The Castle is! The welcome is very warm and friendly from Wil, Sue and their staff. The fire was roaring as it was a chilly evening, adding to the cosy feel. There is a lovely slightly separate room, ideal for a more personal dining experience. We were a group of seventeen, but twenty two people can easily be accommodated. We pre-ordered, but didn’t get several orders to The Castle until the day of our reservation. This wasn’t a problem, all requests were calmly dealt with. We were all very impressed, not only with the tasty, high quality of our food, but with the ease and efficiency in which it was delivered. The home made pies are a must and vegetarians are catered for. The portions are plentiful and deserts delicious. We all agreed we would go back and try the Sunday roast lunch. And certainly consider the versatile back room for future events/larger family gatherings. Highly recommend.

We were travelling back from Harrogate to Dartford and wanted to stop off for something to eat on the way home. The Castle Inn is just a short detour off the A1. What a lovely traditional pub. Two of our favourite beers were on tap, Citra from Oakham Ales & Summer Lightning from Hop Back Brewery and they were in fantastic condition. This is a family run pub and they were all very friendly and hospitable. The food was amazing too. I am vegetarian and I can highly recommend the sweet potato falafels and the portobello mushrooms. We happened upon Castle Inn as we were staying in an Airbnb in the village. What a find! What was initially going to be a practical early dinner with our 5 month old baby became a really brilliant meal out. The food was fantastic and the service charismatic and warm. From the booking when we tentatively asked if it would be ok to bring the baby and were told that we’d easily have a table where we could park the pram, to the charming service behind the bar to the super tasty food that would rival top restaurants, it was fab. Go there, tell your friends about it and keep top pubs like this going and successful!!

When you have that little dream about living the countryside idyll it usually involves being within easy walking distance of a good local pub. It's a really friendly and welcoming place to come, from the owners to the staff and kitchen staff, they are all so friendly. I had the family come to me from 200 miles away and it was there Caribbean special night Saturday, so it was the only place I would want to take them. I certainly wasn't let down by my choice, the family loved it and are now converted. Lol. I couldn't recommend this place enough for a casual drink or for something to eat. I have just returned from having Sunday lunch here with a friend. What a disappointment. There was nobody at all in the pub when we arrived which perhaps should have been a sign! Only two courses available, no menu whatsoever. Just a few scribbles on a board. We both chose beef which we requested to be well done. It duly arrived. My beef was cut in very thick slices and almost covered the plate. The Yorkshire pudding was half burnt. The veg that came with it were carrots which were ok and some sort of leek and bacon mix. The beef was tough and the plate was totally off putting. Presentation was lacking. When it came to desserts the waitress/barmaid couldn’t find the board so had to write them down for us. The choice was a variety of ice creams/ sorbets and two different chocolate desserts. I am a dessert person so I hoped this might be better. I chose the chocolate fondant which was in fact chocolate sponge with chocolate sauce poured over it. No melting chocolate inside whatsoever. I will not be having Sunday lunch here again. I’m sure you can do so much better!

Attended the Midsummer Fair in the village as we do every year. Fancied some better food than the 'burger van' - but received food of equivalent if not lesser standard here. The pub in itself was a fantastic little place of great atmosphere (from the 'punters') - the same cannot be said for the staff. Their was a limited menu which is completely understandable on such a busy event. Most of us opted for the cheeseburger, whilst my son chose a simple portion of chips which he requested as cheesy chips. I requested this from the waitress who bluntly said putting cheese on the chips was not an option for him (even though it was obviously available for the cheeseburgers) When the food arrived less than 5 minutes later (freshly cooked?!) it was not enjoyable and my son's food was served in a polystyrene tray and with a plastic fork!! On a positive note, the chips were nice....safe to say I will not be returning.

Wonderfully cooked, full of flavour and a substantial meal was enjoyed by both of us. The real ale, coffee with hot milk added to the excellence. Great service and advice on my choice of ale was readily offered by a local customer. Thank you.

We booked a table at the Castle Inn (Castle Bytham) for our friends birthday and we all had a brilliant time. The music is subtle, there is a good variety of drinks and the staff are friendly and helpful. Food is amazing - good sized portions, well cooked and nicely presented. The atmosphere is great and everyone has said they can't wait to come back and will be recommending it to other friends and family.

This pub is a great find run by a wonderfully welcoming family and their well chosen polite and attentive staff. I have returned many times since discovering this quiet friendly pub situated in a beautiful country village.

Had a fantastic evening, good reviews in the Good Beer Guide and has just been awarded CAMRA Country Pub of the Year, good selection of starters (camembert to share is a must!) and we then had the lamb shank with a steak, very tasty and succulent meat with sauces to die for :)puddings looked good, we shared a cheeseboard to finish the wine, would definately visit again.

We have visited this Pub many times over the past few years and keep going back for its great atmosphere, excellent beers and food.Eamon is a great host and engages with everybody. I have often driven some 40miles just to enjoy an evening here. Its well worth diverting from the A1 for imo. Especially on a Sunday night when there is live music often on.Best pub in Lincolnshire I think.

Rude staff. Horrible atmosphere. A terrible experience. Don't know why these people bother to run a public house. They are clearly not interested. They should be ashamed

Booked a meal with my wife and parents having missed out on another pub nearby that was fully booked. I had driven past this pub a few times but didn't really know what I was missing. The pub has a rustic and homely feel to it with two roaring fires at each end of the main bar area. The pub itself is quite small but that all adds to the atmosphere, which is ideal for a family get together, an intimate meal for two or a large group outing. The choice of real ales was good to see however I chose Leffe, which was on tap, something I haven't had for a while. The menu choice was good and suited everyone in the group and was reasonably priced. Opted not to have a starter however not because of lack of choice. Overall I would definitely recommend to anyone and having read the 'poor' review somebody put on here I have to say all the food we chose was freshly made and not heated from frozen!!

The Castle Inn Castle Bytham is one of my two locals, it doesn't aspire to gourmet standards, but the food is delicious and plentiful. I can particularly recommend the chips, which are the crispest I have ever eaten. There are a good selection of starters, which I don't tend to eat these days, thre courses are two fattening. For main course I have tried the Fish and Chips and the Fish Cakes which were excellent. My review makes it sound like it just serves tradition pub grub, but the menu is more adventurous than that. There are various gateaux and pies for desert. There is also a selection of guest beers to try. The pub does not have a car park, put there is plenty of on street parking.

This is a wonderful pub in a lovely picturesque friendly village. The food is great, with a good choice on their thankfully short menu. There is a good selection of ales which are well kept.

Went for a spontaneous meal having found the restaurant on trip advisor. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Food was great with ample choice and portion size. Prices great for amount and quality of food. The chips were amazing!! Great setting with some nice quirky touches. Would thoroughly recommend, well worth the drive out.

I came here with my friends, who immensely enjoy coming to this pub, although it's not local to them and I can see why. It's a beautiful country pub, that is beautifully and tastefully decorated which offers a fine selection of alcohol, including gin and ales. We ended up stopping for dinner too and they made one of the finest pork bellies I have ever had. At about 2 inches thick, there was proper crackling on the outside, and light, melt in the mouth, below. The chips and twice cooked and were, again, one of the best I have had in a pub. The portions, needless to say, are hearty and excellent value for the price. So, with the fine food and drink, what really tops it off it the atmosphere and the friendliness of the pub and the landlord. If I am in the area again, I shall definitely return!

A charming pub with a great menu choice. I had the home-baked gammon, egg and chips and my husband had the belly pork. Both meals were delicious in the extreme; and the twice-cooked chips were the best I have ever had - super crispy on the outside and light and fluffy inside. Unfortunately, the portions were so big that I couldn't manage to eat all of mine, let alone have any pudding. Very highly recommended.

We stumbled across this lovely pub on a summer's evening drive out of our usual comfort zone. Although it was a Tuesday night, there was a warm and pleasant buzzy atmosphere. The decor is very cosy and friendly which is made that way by the attention to the finer detail. The menu was extensive and all the food looked delicious. It appears to cater well for celiacs and vegetarians. My husband had a house burger and I had the risotto, both were delicious. We thought it was a lovely pub and wished it was slightly closer to our home, although, we will be back for more.

I have visited this pub a couple of times now and I absolutely love it. The first occasion was at christmas....and all I can say is wow!!! It was festive, full of character, the food was homemade and absolutely delicious....my kids LOVED the burgers! The atmosphere was relaxed and one that you'd expect from a country-ish pub. They had music being played by fiddlers, tambourinists and all sorts - it was divine and just made me feel comfortable and just wanting to smile :)I love the fact it's a kid friendly pub - I wouldn't expect ANYWHERE to have an issue with bringing children or having other children present! As for drunk people being in a pub? Imagine that lol.Genuine, heartwarming venue, highly recommended for an atmospheric experience, keep up the good work guys xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Have used The Castle several times. My overarching impression is of consistency coupled with real passion for the food and drink in this excellent pub. We have tried several dishes and each one has been really good, the landlady cooks with real love and passion. A real highlight is the superb bar kept by the landlord, he regularly brings in new and unusual gins, whiskies, etc and is always ready to share something new.In a very competitive local market this pub offers outstanding value for money and a warm friendly welcome.

I can't recommend the Castle enough. It is quirky, quaint, warm, cosy and welcoming. The gin selection is a kin to a gin palace and the food is outstanding.......home cooked pub food. I recommend the lamb shank and whale on a plate, the steak has never disappointed. We live in an area of many good restaurants and we pick the castle every time, whether as a couple or a family.
