We ate at The Castle Inn with my daughter who is coeliac. We always check in advance that places understand that cross contamination is the danger - cooking in a kitchen where there has been gluten on a surface or in a shared container. For coeliacs for example, you cannot cook chips in fat that has had any glutened batter in it. You have to have fresh fat in a cleaned fryer. We have discovered that many high end restaurants like The Ivy don't manage to offer this so it was so heartening that The Castle was meticulous about her needs. When the menu didn't offer an option she could pick, they found something different, making her cheesy mashed potato from scratch. It was delicious and we are so grateful for their kindness. We shall definitely eat here again when we're in the area.

In unfortunate circumstances when our car broke down 160 miles away from home on a Sunday evening, we found ourselves at the friendliest place we could have possibly wished for! We were looked after with generous hospitality and genuine care and are very grateful to the caring landlady, staff and guests we met. Food we were offered (even though the kitchen was closed) was delicious! We highly recommend and hope to visit this charming place again.

I have to be honest. I'm not really a fan of having a Sunday roast out. They more often than not disappoint. This, however, was the best I have had in many years and we'll definitely be back. From the succulent meat to the home-made gravy, it was all delicious. All four of us said the same.

We visited whilst travelling home from Gatwick Airport. Only 5 minutes off the A1, welcoming hosts, friendly atmosphete, and excellent food available. Great choice of beers on tap, but sadly, driving duties put paid to the need for any decision making. Been wanting to revisit after a gap of several years. Still offers a fantastic range of beers. Grainstore often Ten Fifty this time plus the increasingly popular Ossett White Rat, a Crouch End Goat brew and I chose an old favourite Summer Lightning. Disappointingly even the 2nd point was very cloudy. Someone also had a cloudy pint of Ten Fifty. Only a handful in on a blustery Sunday afternoon. I'll return again, as I'm sure the experience will be better and the beers on offer are good

This a real pub with lots of people drinking in the bar, small dogs running around and a general atmosphere of the old village pub. And this was a Tuesday night. We were a party of eight old fellows so we had a table in the tastefully furnished dining room. You can eat in the bar but the alternative is the dining room. The dining room is done out in Masonic Regalia which makes it rather different and quite special. We were looked after by a delightful young lady who found no difficulty coping with 8 old gents. The food was excellent. Will and Sue who run the pub say they are a pub serving good food and so it is. The food is good and not expensive, I I do not know who looks after the beer but it is well chosen and in perfect condition.

The Castle Inn provided a Chinese takeaway service in the height of the coronavirus. Not only was the food truly AMAZING but the importance of their customers service was fantastic. Everyone was allocated a dedicated slot to collect (although they did also offer a delivery service if needed). Sue met you at the door (2 metres apart) complete with blue gloves and a smile as always. To provide a high standard of food and safe takeaway service at this time certainly gives us all a bit of normality. Huge thanks to Sue, Will and John for giving my family and I a bit of normality in what can only be described as such a horrendous time is fabulous. Well done all of you

We were staying in nearby Stretton and were unable to get a booking at the pub next door to where we were staying. A result really, as this little gem of a pub made us most welcome. Good selection of ales and spirits and a very friendly welcome from staff and especially the resident dog, a very cute border terrier who came and sat beside me. I had the sirloin steak. Huge portion and cooked exactly as what requested. The family all had the steak and ale pie. Again very generous portions, and served outside the 'dish' at my father-in-laws request! Only confusion was that menu said it was served with mash and peas, but it was served with chunky chips. The staff did offer to check but we didn't want to wait as my steak was ready. Chips are great, but maybe check when ordering if you really want mash! Definitely would recommend.

Went for Sunday lunch here and it was fantastic. You could tell there was so much thought into every part of the dish. The beautifully cooked sirloin of beef with the creamy delicate leeks in sauce. Possibly the best roast potatoes I have had including ones cooked at home for a small group. The chef clearly cares as there were so many elements I could mention that made the dish into what it was. What a lovely historic country pub The Castle is! The welcome is very warm and friendly from Wil, Sue and their staff. The fire was roaring as it was a chilly evening, adding to the cosy feel. There is a lovely slightly separate room, ideal for a more personal dining experience. We were a group of seventeen, but twenty two people can easily be accommodated. We pre-ordered, but didn’t get several orders to The Castle until the day of our reservation. This wasn’t a problem, all requests were calmly dealt with. We were all very impressed, not only with the tasty, high quality of our food, but with the ease and efficiency in which it was delivered. The home made pies are a must and vegetarians are catered for. The portions are plentiful and deserts delicious. We all agreed we would go back and try the Sunday roast lunch. And certainly consider the versatile back room for future events/larger family gatherings. Highly recommend.

From the booking when we tentatively asked if it would be ok to bring the baby and were told that we’d easily have a table where we could park the pram, to the charming service behind the bar to the super tasty food that would rival top restaurants, it was fab. When you have that little dream about living the countryside idyll it usually involves being within easy walking distance of a good local pub.
