Whenever we pop into the Paper Mill it’s always a pleasure, today was a rain encouraged pit stop half way round a walk - we were going to stop by anyway but the weather made it a definite decision. Good selection of beers and wines (and soft drinks) didn’t stop for food (and sadly no cannoli this time) but great welcome in a top hiking spot

Lovely pub with nice beer and helpful staff. However, our experience of their 4th July pop up kitchen event left us underwhelmed to say the least. Once we had understood the canteen style food service - come and collect your food from the hatch - we were disappointed by the food we got and the price - £5 for a few slices of battered cucumber and £10 for a small and bland pulled pork burger. A triumph of style over substance I'm afraid. Would come again for a drink but not for anything to eat.

We were a family of five who booked bed and breakfast in two cottages at the Paper Mill and had a wonderful stay. The dinner menu was varied and the food beautifully cooked. The breakfast menu was good, too, and again beautifully cooked and cheerfully served. The cottages were immaculate, cosy and sensitively restored with beds so comfortable you didn’t want to get out of them. Our host and his whole efficient team were welcoming, friendly, and really made us feel we would like to be back there as soon as possible.

Me and my husband visited the paper mill today for a pint whilst out on a long walk. The man behind the bar was so helpful, he recommended the beers that he thought we would like best and he also let us sample the beers so we knew we were making the right choice. The pub was fairly busy but we managed to find a seat in a little alcove, we both felt that the place had so much character and the atmosphere was great, everyone there just seemed to be enjoying themselves. We didn't want to leave after our drinks as we loved it so much but we had more walking ahead of us. Needless to say we will 100% be returning again!

Myself and a friend had walked from Bugsworth Basin and came across The Old Hall Inn and Paper Mill quite by chance never having been there before. We enquired about lunch and were told that Pizzas were on offer. They didn’t have the one we chose but we were perfectly happy with another choice which the young chef delivered to us personally. The skin on chips were delicious. We thought the place was lovely- quaintly old fashioned but with very modern touches (the Dyson tap/dryers!); warm with the wood burner going, friendly staff and lovely choice of beers. Having since explored what’s on offer at the two pubs we will definitely be making another visit soon. Well done.

Somehow my husband managed to fit in a pizza as well - I've no idea how, but he tells me it was excellent. We finished our meal with a delicious piece of cheesecake, and then had to have a waddle around the village to walk some of it off. After a very long, scenic drive up peaks and through every weather condition possible, we arrived in lovely Chinley. When checking in, I had accidentally booked for the day after!! What I thought was a nightmare, the owner and his wife were extremely helpful and put us in an "emergency room".. if that was only an emergency room we cannot wait to see what the actual rooms are like, it was beautiful, clean and had everything we could've needed for a relaxing night away. We ate in the paper mill inn, during that month it was the vegan pop up (it changes monthly) menu so we ordered from there as well as one of their delicious pizzas and very reasonably priced. We had drinks there in front of the fire - bliss! We ate breakfast in the old hall inn which was also very nice. Thanks again for been so welcoming after my mistake! We look forward to coming again (on the right day this time).

So noisy in the bar, we don’t understand the point of music, as you can’t hear it for the shouting, but upstairs the music reverberates, although it doesn’t drown out the shouting. I booked the Raclette Room for 16 people in December for an alternative Christmas dinner. Most of my friends handn't experienced raclette before so they didn't know what to expect. The room was cosy, well decorated and you could be forgiven for thinking you were in an Alpine cabin somewhere just outside of Grindelwald. The wood fire was toasty and the quality of the food was high. Although raclette is primarily a meat eater's feast, the three vegetarians amongst us were well catered for with excellent fish and great veg. All in all it was a really good evening, with attentive & prompt service from the staff downstairs and a good vibe throughout the evening. At fifteen quid a head (plus drinks and puddings) it was exceptional value.

Owned by the same proprietor as the old hall inn it's not long been refurbished and has been done to a very high standard. Enjoyed a couple of drinks here sat by the open log fire.

We had a wonderful stay at the Old Hall. We arrived late on Friday night after a slow drive from London and they were very happy to accommodate our very late check in. The rooms are newly renovated and beautifully decorated and the breakfast was delicious - the Derbyshire Oatcakes are a must!

They seem to be doing something right here! Me and my SO came a few months ago one evening after work to get out of the city. We had a lovely dinner at the Old Hall then popped over to the Paper Mill Inn and found an incredibly friendly bar maid and even better selection of beer. We noticed the advert for the beer and cider festival in a few months so we headed back in September. It's a great combo between the two pubs, offering something to everyone's tastes. The service has always been friendly (even during the busy beer festival) and the beer really is fantastic. We're now booked in to the Raclette room for his birthday in November and can't wait.

Had a family Christmas there and it was brilliant, food excellent .Also had numerous meals across the road at The Old Mill, where the staff were very friendly. The choice of food was superb and also good choice of wine and beers.

Lovely old pub but when we visited it was a little spoilt by the huge amount of empty glasses stacked on the empty tables outside even though the pub only had half a dozen customers in. The young man behind the bar seemed content to watch the 2 (different) TVs & listen to the loud music than get off his backside & clear up a bit. Shame really as the cider was great but we nipped down the road 100 yards to its sister pub (The Old Hall Inn) which was better.

Four of us ate lunch together following a recommendation from another friend. The food was excellent. My risotto was a delicious vegetarian option, full of interesting flavours and textures. The other three meat eaters were all impressed with their food particularly the beef cheek. Everything was well presented and service was good. The ginger pudding was the perfect finish to the meal. We will definitely be going back and will recommend to friends and family.

A small but perfectly good cafe. Friendly and helpful staff. We had the omelette which we both enjoyed.
