Lovely pub, really friendly staff. Ordered camembert and steaks, delicious and cooked perfectly. Brilliant selection of ales. Really recommend this pub for dinner and drinks. I hope I can come back soon! Edit: I came back and extremely glad I did. Favourite pub on earth. Food is soo good and Moravka is my new favourite larger

Cosy country pub but severely let down by the food. I had the chilli which contained dark chocolate. The barman did notify me of this as I ordered it but thought to proceed. However the chocolate completely overwhelmed the taste of chilli and rendered the meal sickly and unsavoury. My partner opted for the chicken madras which had a strong vinegary taste and felt like it was just a reheated ready meal. Overall very let down.

My partner and I stayed in the local area for a few days on a walking holiday. This place was by far the best pub we visited in the 4 mile radius. The food was outstanding. I had a Mexican burger which was 100% beef burger with beautiful homemade chilli con carne on top. Service with fresh veg and amazing homemade chips. The locally brewer lager and ale were fantastic as well. Reasonably price, definitely recommend

We booked the local campsite and decided to book this pub for a meal on our first night as we would be arriving late. Booking a table was straightforward and I received acknowledgment from Hannah. We arrived to a busy pub with plenty of people having a good time. The table was ready and waiting for us, we ordered drinks (Hartington Ale is top drawer), ordered our food at the bar and made our way to the table. The food came quick and served by smiling, friendly staff. Food was excellent, the barman and all the staff were excellent, really can’t fault the place. Will definitely return.

Pub slightly tired, outdoors (beer garden) in particular needs attention but the staff are friendly and welcoming and the food is good wholesome pub grub and good portion size. Service was good and there was a steady flow of people (thurs eve). Would be nice to see something on the menu with vegetables other than chips/rice. Would return if camping close by again.

What a find! This place is fab and a bit quirky! We went on a sunny Sunday; there was a couple playing music in a back room, locals drinking and chatting inside and out, and a warm welcome to us none locals. Had a couple of pints of local pale ale (can’t remember which one) but it was lovely. We sat in the back garden in the sun, which is raised up behind the pub, to give you great views of the surrounding hills. It’s a bit overgrown and has wildflowers and birds, and different areas to sit, some covered some not - we loved the wildness of it, a real haven for nature. We watched a wren going in and out of the roof of one of the little gazebos feeding her chicks. I had the steak (medium rare) sooooo good, it came with mushrooms, onion rings, homemade chips, peas and salad. My other half had the fish and chips. We both loved every mouthful. If you want great beer, great food, a warm welcome and a proper pub, this is the pace to go.

I am gluten and dairy intolerant and the menus were really clear on gluten, and the staff had a really good knowledge of the food meaning they showed me the dairy free options easily as well. Having multiple options on starters and mains is a luxury! The chicken goujons and fish and chips were a real highlight for me. My partner couldn’t recommend the waffle dessert enough also. The staff were very accommodating for our spaniel too with water and treats readily available. Would recommend booking as from speaking to the staff it often gets booked up.

We visited on a quiet Thursday evening for a small family meal. It was a rainy windy night and the place was fairly empty, but the logburner was going and we got a friendly welcome. We had already booked a table but probably wasn't necessary that night! We have a few dietary requirements (gluten-free and onion-free) and they were super helpful in providing suitable replacements. So many places will just remove the offending items and leave a half-empty plate! I had the Steak, Guiness and Stilton pie and it was delicious. We had a weekend away in the Peak District, stumbled on the local campsite by accident and decided to keep it mind. After looking at reviews for the local Packhorse Inn, we booked a table in advance. Cosy place with helpful ish staff. We ordered our food, The Moroccan Lamb Pie and a Chicken Caesar Salad. The chips were nice, the lamb unfortunately was a very bland dish, I had a couple of mouthfuls and gave up. Returning it to order the House Special Burger instead . The Caesar salad was basically a large lettuce lightly chopped, some chicken with a bit of cheese, no bacon, very little dressing and the croutons, whilst being fresh out the fryer, we’re dripping in fat, my Partener ate very little of it, leaving about 60%. The house burger arrived and it was just two burgers with melted cheese in a very cheap white bun, nothing special in the slightest. But at least it had a bit of flavour, so an improvement over the Moroccan Lamb. The pudding however was a hit and recommended. The local brewed lager was very good as was my girlfriends drink. Drinks good, food pretty poor. Maybe we were unlucky with the three main dishes we ordered, or perhaps we had a stand in chef, as many of the reviews said how good the food was, unfortunately our experience was far from this,

The staff were really friendly and the outside space is nice but this is where the compliments stop. We booked a table a few days before and was sat inside. The table hadn't even been cleaned from the previous people with crumbs and sauce everywhere. The floor was covered in food and I felt dirty sitting down on a chair. We moved outside quickly. The drinks and food menus lack variety. I ordered lasagne, which was well overpriced, which came with my own private swimming pool of grease on top and the chips were overcooked and tasted like they had been sat for a while. I had two mouthfuls and had to leave it. I would highly recommend not going here and going down the road to the Royal Oak which was a million times better.

I paid just under £13 for the burger. It was basically 2 very thin tasteless bits of meat slapped between a huge roll (not toasted) and a little melted cheese. There was a small standard side salad and the chips were fine. Kids meal was ok. I was shocked that it was so expensive as the quality of food was poor for all except the kids meal (fish goujons and chips). So glad it was under the eat out to help out scheme - 3 people had horrendous indigestion afterwards. We didn't attempt dessert. Wouldn't come back for food! After reading several Trip Advisor reviews we had high expectations for the Pack Horse. However, we finished our evening very disappointed. Car parking was poor and the pub itself lacked atmosphere and felt very run down. It struck you as a pub that if you weren't a local you weren't welcome - although the landlord was very chatty. The chips were great however the dessert choices were poor. It was a very cramped area and it felt like the people sat 2 tables away were part of our group.

Very nice location, great local homemade food and very nice people. Even our demanding kids loved it :)

Incredible. When the chef of a bbq place walks out in a Springboks jersey you know you’re in safe hands. Chef’s special was perfect. Beautifully balanced and flavourful dishes. Relaxed and congenial atmosphere. So helpful and accommodation with food allergy too.

Don’t be deceived by the unassuming exterior. This is a proper cafe at its best. The full breakfast beats those I have had in a few four to five star hotels. It was near full when I went in but they squeezed me in and served me very fast. The very cleanly cooked and tasty breakfast came in minutes few with a piping hot cappacino before. Top class and I will certainly be back. Best breakfast for miles around and all for £6.50! I will definitely be back.

Great coffee, and all day breakfast. Cosy ambience and excellent service. just what I needed after a blustery morning on the hills. Highly recommend.

Nicely kept ale - from Storm Brewing - and managing just one at a time in line with midweek custom. Cash only bar but nice locals atmosphere, on the back road between New Mills and Hayfield.
