Lovely family owned pub with great friendly service and delicious home cooked food. No ability to pay by card when we went so best to have cash on you although paying by bank transfer was an option. Recommend the lasagne and pie of the day, it was chicken and chorizo which was wonderful. Try and save a bit of room for pudding there's a great choice and the special bread and butter pudding using a hot cross bun was a real treat

Love this pub! Lovely scenic location. friendly professional staff, good selection of food, drinks on the menu and real ales kept well. We had the lasagne, chips and salad and steak chips and veg. Huge portions, very tasty, piping hot, with fresh veg and home made chips (not frozen). Sadly no room for pudding but they looked superb. Very cozy in winter with the log burner.

We visited on a quiet Thursday evening for a small family meal. It was a rainy windy night and the place was fairly empty, but the logburner was going and we got a friendly welcome. We had already booked a table but probably wasn't necessary that night! We have a few dietary requirements (gluten-free and onion-free) and they were super helpful in providing suitable replacements. So many places will just remove the offending items and leave a half-empty plate! I had the Steak, Guiness and Stilton pie and it was delicious. The GF Classic burger was immense, and had a lovely salad to accompany it. All was good, in a warm and friendly environment.

Had stayed at the cottage next door, so we had 2 meals on separate nights. Best to book a table as gets busy. Friendly staff and nice, helpful landlord. First meal I had the Stilton and chicken and it was lovely, not over powering and came with chips. Second meal I had a bbq chicken and cheese wrap but found it was smothered in way too much sauce but still tasty. This also came with chips (chips are AMAZING and reminded me if my grandma's home made northern chips!). My oartner had fish and chips and it was delicious. Very dog friendly and took my little dachshund in on a couple occasions. Nice beer garden and easy to park. Highly recommend if your nearby.

We turned up without a booking but there were plenty of tables available both inside and out. Staff were exceptionally friendly and the food was lovely (magnificent chips and plenty of options to choose from). Sat outside with a lovely view over the hills and whilst we were there a group of lovely people struck up some country music in the beer garden. This created such a lovely atmosphere that we stayed for additional drinks. Unfortunately this did make the walk back to our campsite over High Wheeldon a bit of a challenge😃

We had a very hearty meal here and were served by the most friendly staff in Buxton! Lasagne with chips, steak and ale pie and a mixture of tasty sides. The portions were huge which the walkers in our group welcomed. Staff were so friendly and accommodating - definitely recommend visiting for food which was great value. The bar is very small (only fitting one server) so this meant a long queue for drinks during busy time but that didn’t bother us. Lovely beer garden behind the pub with a lovely view.

We had a weekend away in the Peak District, stumbled on the local campsite by accident and decided to keep it mind. After looking at reviews for the local Packhorse Inn, we booked a table in advance. Cosy place with helpful ish staff. We ordered our food, The Moroccan Lamb Pie and a Chicken Caesar Salad. The chips were nice, the lamb unfortunately was a very bland dish, I had a couple of mouthfuls and gave up. Returning it to order the House Special Burger instead . The Caesar salad was basically a large lettuce lightly chopped, some chicken with a bit of cheese, no bacon, very little dressing and the croutons, whilst being fresh out the fryer, we’re dripping in fat, my Partener ate very little of it, leaving about 60%. The house burger arrived and it was just two burgers with melted cheese in a very cheap white bun, nothing special in the slightest. But at least it had a bit of flavour, so an improvement over the Moroccan Lamb. The pudding however was a hit and recommended. The local brewed lager was very good as was my girlfriends drink. Drinks good, food pretty poor. Maybe we were unlucky with the three main dishes we ordered, or perhaps we had a stand in chef, as many of the reviews said how good the food was, unfortunately our experience was far from this,

We stayed in the campsite just down the road and it was very convenient to have a pub meters away from us. The staff were really friendly and the outside space is nice but this is where the compliments stop. We booked a table a few days before and was sat inside. The table hadn't even been cleaned from the previous people with crumbs and sauce everywhere. The floor was covered in food and I felt dirty sitting down on a chair. We moved outside quickly. The drinks and food menus lack variety. I ordered lasagne, which was well overpriced, which came with my own private swimming pool of grease on top and the chips were overcooked and tasted like they had been sat for a while. I had two mouthfuls and had to leave it. I would highly recommend not going here and going down the road to the Royal Oak which was a million times better.

Great location making the most of the valley views, lovely little garden huts meant we were dry even on a changeable day. Staff really friendly, excellent service and the food was excellent - my husband had a huge very good quality burger and I had the toasted tortilla wrap - we were still only eating outside last weekend and it was such a lovely change - well done

I paid just under £13 for the burger. It was basically 2 very thin tasteless bits of meat slapped between a huge roll (not toasted) and a little melted cheese. There was a small standard side salad and the chips were fine. Kids meal was ok. I was shocked that it was so expensive as the quality of food was poor for all except the kids meal (fish goujons and chips). So glad it was under the eat out to help out scheme - 3 people had horrendous indigestion afterwards. We didn't attempt dessert. Wouldn't come back for food! Service was friendly and great views if going for a drink.

Large range of ales, cider and even a locally brewed Czech style pilsner which were all in tip top condition from a landlord who evidently loves and knows how to keep his beer! After reading several Trip Advisor reviews we had high expectations for the Pack Horse. However, we finished our evening very disappointed. Car parking was poor and the pub itself lacked atmosphere and felt very run down. It struck you as a pub that if you weren't a local you weren't welcome - although the landlord was very chatty. The chips were great however the dessert choices were poor. It was a very cramped area and it felt like the people sat 2 tables away were part of our group.

There was also a very decent selection of real ales available, too. Unfortunately, one had to drive there so sampling all the beers was not possible. I can really recommend this place. There is a reasonably sized car park, a beer garden and good views of the local countryside. The only thing that spoilt it for us was a couple of rude locals who were mesmerised by someone parking there car in the car park and literally sat on my wife’s knee for a good five minutes while they watched the show.
