A beautifully quaint tea room with a good selection of food and drinks. They serve proper tea, which is such a refreshing change from tea bags, which is very good. We both had the Welsh rarebit with ham, which was served on seeded bloomer toasted, with a side salad, and it was delicious. The prices are very reasonable and the staff are incredibly friendly and efficient.

Disappointed with this, We waited around 45 minutes for 3 afternoon teas (we have drank our cups of tea and coffee within the wait) thinking it was because things were being made with care and fresh but the cakes were dry and sandwiches had been rushed. We had not been checked on once, and when we had the afternoon tea, it came with ham sandwiches where the bread was not buttered but good quality ham, cheese sandwiches (we asked for no chutney) but they were wedges of cheese which looked hacked off and were really thick slices which looked like it was hacked off a block of cheese, the tuna sandwiches were nice and the egg ones but the cake was very dry (Lemon Cake and Chocolate Cake) and the scone was tasty. The 1 cheese sandwich had a little bit of hair in, as we had been waiting 45 minutes we didn't complain because we were a bit tired from sitting waiting around and were wanting to just eat and get out to be honest.

This is our second visit. Both lovely, but I can't remember if I reviewed it last time, so apologies if I'm repeating myself. My wife and I had the Full English, me with added black pud. Tea for herself, latte for me. The drinks came promptly. A nice lot of tea, with an extra pot of hot water. The latte was excellent. Not insipid, as in some restaurants. Now, the very nice lady in charge came over to say that chef was missing, so extra staff were helping out in the kitchen. A bit of a delay. No problem for us, but you worry that standards might slip. I need not have worried. When the brekkies came, after 20 minutes as predicted, they were perfect. All beautifully cooked. The stand-in staff were brilliant. The lovely lady came to give our dog a biccie, which was nice of her. Tilly's is a place to go for excellent quality food, served charmingly but without grovelling servility, which I hate, in a lovely environment. I cannot speak more highly.

I recently passed though Castleton travelling on public transport from Manchester. I had one hour 30 minutes in Castleton before my next bus but had a 10 minute stroll before deciding to refuel before doing any more exploring. I went into Tilly's tea rooms. and was given a table. Before anything else I had to 'pay a visit'. So I used up another 5 minutes of my time. It was another 5 minutes before I caught anybody's eye and then gave my order, simply a pot of tea and a toasted sandwich. However simple the order was, it took more than 40 minutes to arrive. This was only after going to the counter to ask about the delay. This left me just over 30 minutes to eat my sandwich, drink my tea and head to the bus station. Possibly because the staff were now rushing to complete the order, the sandwich was very lightly toasted on one side and just 'warmed' on the other. Needless to say I was unable to see much more of Castleton. Most of the staff were pleasant enough but clearly the kitchen systems need an overhaul.

I can't fault this cafe for the food and staff very friendly, but the slowness of the wait for the food is painful!. If you don't mind a 45min plus wait and not in a hurry then it's fine. We visited this cafe a few months ago and the service for our meals was very slow then. It's no good blaming on how busy it is, when we were there last time it wasn't overly busy and still had a long wait for our food to come out!.

We visited for lunch knowing we only had 50 mins before we had to leave and catch the bus. The coffee arrived in good time and was really nice. The sandwich that we ordered arrived 40 mins after and by that time we didn't have time to eat it. We had to make a dash for the bus so we took it on the go. It wasn't at all worth the money we paid and came with a very plain salad. Rather disappointed with the whole experience.

Bread was hard as we waited 45 minutes for it, looks thrown together without the side salad that's advertised to come with it? Only given it 2 stars because previous experiences have been better. Delicious breakfast. One small criticism though, the beans were a nice temperature but because they were lukewarm, they cool down very quick. I'd rather have the beans piping hot so they stay at a decent temperature until you're finished your breakfast. Other than that very minor issue, the beans were good quality, delicious quality pork sausage, bacon cooked to perfection, quality tomatoes, nice and sweet with a nice bit of charring on top and they had these really tasty tater tot type things that were crispy and delicious. Very friendly and welcoming gentleman who I guess owns the place and friendly, attentive staff.

Tilley’s of Castleton is a true gem, offering a delightful escape in the midst of nowhere. I was grateful to find this establishment open at 9 am when no other options were available. Opting for a veg burger, garlic bread, hot chocolate, chocolate milkshake and British tea, I was thoroughly impressed with every dish. The veg burger was flavorful, the garlic breads perfectly toasted, and the hot chocolate indulgently rich. Trying British tea for the first time was a memorable experience, with its exquisite flavor leaving a lasting impression. Breakfast is wonderful, sausages and bacon are clearly locally sourced and high quality, this is quite simply as good as a full English can be. Staff are always welcoming and friendly, restaurant is always spotlessly clean and tidy. I’m a fussy so and so and can usually find something that could be better but not at Tilly’s. Having been in the catering industry myself I instantly recognised the high calibre of the staff and I immediately fell into conversation with the very articulate and jovial owner. It is always a pleasure to meet like minded people. The establishment has a really calm and positive feel, not least because of the large windows that offers not only light but a connection to the street outside. In fact its one of those places that gives you a lift and raises your vibration. There is an extensive menu and I would thoroughly recommend Tillys to most visitors to the village.

He had a raspberry and white chocolate milkshake, this, he said was really lovely! However we aren’t ones to like to complain and we will definitely be back, there’s plenty of choices on the menu and this little gem of a place is right in the heart of beautiful Castleton!

Brilliant breakfast after walking down from Mam Tor. Served promptly, and food arrived quickly. Great local places as art on the walls, most impressive, is the Ladybower backdrop! All in all, it's a fantastic place x

Had the full English breakfast with a breakfast tea my hubby had the same breakfast with a cafeteria of coffee, meal was ok but only Luke warm this time which was a shame, they were very busy when we got there just about 9.30 and the waitress did explain there could be a 30 minute wait which we did not mind at all but was a shame the meal not so hot , may have been better if the plates had been hot like they usually are, not sure if I would return for a breakfast again which is a shame as enjoy them usually

After stopping overnight in beautiful Castleton we went here for breakfast. Did not book but got a window seat even though busy with more seating upstairs. Waitress friendly as she took our order in which I had the full English of sausage, 2 bacon, fried egg, tomato, mushrooms, breakfast potatoes, beans and toast all delicious and plentiful at £9.75.

Just had a cracking lunch at Tilly’s and thoroughly recommend giving it a try. It’s far more than just a tea/coffee stop, we really liked it 10 out of 10

Our first visit to castleton and wanted somewhere to have breakfast. We have two dogs and wanted somewhere where dogs were welcome. Tillys welcomed dogs and the menu looked appetising. We had the full breakfast and a Latte. The meal came out and looked perfect ..It tasted as good as it looked. One of the best full breakfasts I've had in a while.

Nice surrounds, friendly staff and the food was lovely, however we’ve only given it 3 stars because we waited 40 mins for our food to arrive. However we would return.

We were at Tilly's for lunch as a group of 4. The service was painfully slow, but when the food arrived it was excellent. The staff were very pleasant and friendly and the cost was fair. However, in my experience, not a restaurant to visit if you're on a time schedule.

Visited mid week, so wasn’t over busy. Waited 50 minutes for a ploughman’s and chips. Checked after 30 minutes and told it was just being made. When the food arrived no apology for the wait, doesn’t cost anything to apologise for the wait. Wouldn’t visit again.

We have lunch at Tilly’s tearoom every year when we do our annual Mam Tor walk. I think our daughters were 8 the first time we visited and they’re now 14. The food is absolutely fantastic. Highlights include lasagna, baked potatoes with many different choices...

Don’t be deceived by the unassuming exterior. This is a proper cafe at its best. The full breakfast beats those I have had in a few four to five star hotels. It was near full when I went in but they squeezed me in and served me very fast. The very cleanly cooked and tasty breakfast came in minutes few with a piping hot cappacino before. Top class and I will certainly be back. Best breakfast for miles around and all for £6.50! I will definitely be back.

Incredible. When the chef of a bbq place walks out in a Springboks jersey you know you’re in safe hands. Chef’s special was perfect. Beautifully balanced and flavourful dishes. Relaxed and congenial atmosphere. So helpful and accommodation with food allergy too.

Lovely pub especially after a long walk. The steak and ale pie was amazing with good beer on tap to accompany it.

Nicely kept ale - from Storm Brewing - and managing just one at a time in line with midweek custom. Cash only bar but nice locals atmosphere, on the back road between New Mills and Hayfield.
