The best restaurants in United Kingdom serving British food

It was horrific i went undercover to see if anyone could realise what i was doing the food was not pleasant , actually pleasant is and understatement it was cold and grimy an a all out crap fest and dog s**t meal!

Ordered 2 rolls with 2 teas. When we were finished eating the rolls, my wife had to go up to the desk and ask for our teas. Unacceptable.

We came home with a great selection of apples and pears from the orchard, some we had not heard of before, they are all the same price by weight so you just make your own selection into a bag. We will be batch-baking apple-crumble for the freezer. They also have a nice butchery selection and local cheese amongst other edible. Not so keen about Gurneys the fresh fish shop as they didn't seem to want the custom they shut up early. The Fish and chip shop had a gluten problem which I will review separately.

Superb Al fresco breakfast in a lovely courtyard right in the heart of this ancient historic village. Quality of ingredients was superb, the tea was delicious and the environment was delightful. I would heartily recommend

We have used Monica's for years as our favourite fish bar. We even travel a distance to the bar, it usually is so good. However on this occasion it was a complete disaster. We ordered a takeaway this time, but we had to wait over 70 minutes to receive our food. The place was very busy and really they should at some point, called a stop for new orders. As regards the food, the scampi, large portion, was a mass of crumbs. The burger was good, the fish was very poor and the chips were like a load of scraps. What made this even worse, when we got to the car and drove off to eat it in a quiet , spot the order was incomplete. No sauces as paid for, only one fish, and no sausage was in our order. I said the burger was good, but it was the wrong burger. We had to return to the shop. A disaster from start to finish. I would very much like a refund of the £29 we paid. This experience will NOT stop us using Monica's in the future, as we know they are better than last Sunday. Please attend to this.

Had a lovely meal, Ellen looked after us and she was brilliant. Beautiful place and wonderful food. Excellent service

We had a fantastic evening at the Hare and Hounds with great service and really delicious and hot food! It’s such a great sign of a good restaurant if they care enough to make sure your food is hot! We were 2 couples and had a mix of food. The Szechuan chicken starter was massive and really tasty. The cod goujons were fresh, delicious and hot! Then we had a mix of chicken burger, beef burger and pan fried salmon. I had the salmon. Sometimes in pubs you can be a bit worried they won’t do fish well (unless it’s fried! Lol). Don’t worry here! The salmon was perfectly cooked. The spring onion mash was really tasty and the mixed veg was wonderful. Al dente park choi and tenderstem broccoli. The burgers were smashed burgers, 2 in each brioche bun. My husband had the Daddy, really good and perfectly cooked. Our friends had the jalapeño burger and fries and the chicken burger and fries. All totally delicious. The Hare and Hounds is our local pub and food there has in the past been a bit hit and miss. Or missing altogether! Tonight it was 100% wonderful. I hope the Kitchen there continues for many years. We’ll be back soon! Thank you.

The service tonight was terrible Poured our own wine which was not chilled when it arrived at the table with apologies from the wine waiter Had to ask for water Struggled to get attention of the staff despite only two tables being served All in all a poor service and reluctantly paid a 50 pound tip inc in the bill Should do better Food was ok and he or she deserved a tip Important family time and not the right time to complain on the night !!!!

Now reopened (Under new management?) with new furniture and a return to the quality and welcome of the past. When originally opened, the cafe offered a lovely "family feel" with excellent service and quality. The cafe had slumped badly in the quality of the experience in recent years, after a change of owners, and my previous visit had been quite unpleasant, so it was VERY refreshing to find a smiling welcome, rapid service and excellent coffee. The new tables are perhaps less rustic than the previous versions, which has lost a little of the atmosphere, but the cafe is scrupulously clean and retains the previous layout. The seating area is quite small and if you are planning to lunch there I would say that booking is essential. It does get very busy at times. The food is reasonably priced, though not "cheap" and the quality was excellent. Attention to detail has made a huge difference to the offering and it is clear that the bad memory of the past has been banished.

Pop in for a drink, been here many times before but obviously changed hands, no cask ale anymore and no heating !! When will pubs learn if your customers are shivering they won’t stay!!

Such a gorgeous café. Tucked away upstairs at the hiking store in Ullapool but worth the short trot upstairs. Great coffee / hot chocolate!

We stopped here for a late lunch on a Saturday and was warmly greeted. The restaurant area was not busy and we were offered to choose any table we wanted, so we choose the table by the windows which gave space for our dog. The waitress was polite, friendly and provided a fantastic service throughout our lunch. Some of us had the Lentil and bacon soup which was absolutely fabulous. The main courses were Chicken Panini, Chicken in garlic sauce, Cajun Chicken and a Mediterranean tart, all served with salad and chips.

Roast dinners are amazing, we had beef and lamb which the meat was so soft, shame we didn't stay long enough to try the pies.

Visited Friday 12 th July two roast dinners cold roast potatoes asked for them to be warned up did it for us they asked us did we want any condiments we said mustard please fine served mustard then asked for bill they charged us £3 pound for the mustard which would be bad enough in any situation but served cold toasties and then charged for mustard and people wonder why restaurants and hotels are closing regularly I think £18 is enough for any roast dinner anywhere thanks
