A fantastic cafe offering a great range of breakfasts, lunches and snacks. The porridge is creamy and one of the best i've had while the salads are inventive with great flavours. There is usually a quiche of the day while the scones are excellent. The coffee is excellent and the chap running the cafe is a coffee enthusiast, really knows his stuff so you are guaranteed a fantastic cup.

We thoroughly enjoyed our morning tea and cake in this busy, friendly cafe. Good choices in coffee, hot chocolate and loose teas. Excellent gluten-free options, with yummy amaretti biscuits. We'd already had breakfast, so couldn't manage one of their delicious-looking Scottish breakfasts home-cooked to order.

This is a great cafe. We had breakfast here on our last morning and I wish we had found it earlier. The coffee and hot chocolate was excellent. I enjoyed the porridge and my husband enjoyed the sausage in bap! The atmosphere was friendly, warm and inviting - I would recommend this cafe - the gallery items were nice to look at and added to the ambiance.

This cafe has changed hands once again and is now Margo's. It is great place to go for breakfast or a casual lunch. They serve some delicious salads as well as a range of other casual foods. I've reviewed this cafe before and it remains very good. Sited above an outdoor clothing shop the cafe is bright and airy with good staff. Plenty of seating with a range of table sizes. Breakfast bacon rolls were very good and freshly made brownies were still warm and sticky. The review remains high and I keep returning here each year when in the area. I did notice the competition choice expanding on this visit to the town.

Visited here for lunch. Have tried on many past visits to Ullapool but always found it queued out. Today it was empty, and silent, which is off-putting for me. We had cooked breakfasts, which were fine, but having specifically asked for no black pudding we were still served it. The childrens meals came separately which wasn't ideal either. Had a coffee/hot chocolate and cake in this café during a holiday in January. Large pieces of cake (perhaps a bit too big or maybe better for sharing!) Had a smell of 'deep frying' on entering which was a bit of an off putter, especially if only needing a light refreshment. This was August 2014, the day after Hurricane Bertha hit the Highlands, rain was still pelting down so of course not a parking space on the main shopping street. I parked up the hill behind the church-museum, started walking (puddle-jumping) and saw a sign "Gallery Café. Today's special -- Scotch Broth." Oh boy! Above a shop selling midge-repellents and woolie hats were café tables and a hot-plate where I filled a bowl with this great soup and helped myself to a freshly baked roll, Just what I needed! Later I served myself with coffee and had time to admire the display of beautiful photographs in the Gallery and staircase. A great little no-nonsense enterprise with good plain food that was perfect for the weather.

Surprising find above the outdoors shop. The one empty table we sat at had no menu so we thought we had to order at counter. No one told us there were menus available on tables as we hovered at the counter to read the boards, we noticed when waiting on our food. We had enjoyable freshly made paninis roasted peppers & cheese however coffee was drunk before it arrived, perhaps we should have said we'd like everything together. There was soup on offer & lovely selection of home made cakes. The other good sign was there were many locals there. Enjoyed viewing the artwork & photographs. Won't put us off coming back but feel the staff could communicate better with patrons or it may have been they were just busy!

It's always a good sign when a restaurant or café is well patronised by locals, and that's the case with the Gallery Café. Situated above "Northwest Outdoors" opposite the Ullapool Museum, these premises have traded under a number of different names over the years, but the food has been consistently good. A step above café cuisine. Prices are very reasonable and the quality and size of portions generous. About 36 covers, but can be busy over lunch. Clean and comfortable. Helpful staff. Have visited these premises in July and October for many years -- in my view the most reliable eating place in Ullapool. Very helpful in providing gluten-free alternatives for a coeliac member of the party, too. Only one negative point -- on the last two visits this year the card machine was broken and they hadn't had it fixed over the week between our visits -- just as well there's a bank with an autoteller a few doors along the street.

I like my latte very hot and that's what I got. There are other places for coffee nearby but I returned here to look at the photos again. It is the Gallery Café after all. Lots of cafés all over Scotland display landscape photographic prints but the vast majority of the photos are just OK. At this place the Angus Bruce photos are really stunning. Today we visited Costa and more or less had the same but the cappuccinos were twice the size and so was the chocolate tiffin and the damage was only £6.50 shame there isn't a Costa in Ullapool. This my third return to this cafe over the past years when travelling up the west coast. I agree with a recent review on the care slipping. The cafe is a large area above an outdoor shop with easy parking on the street area outside. Some nice views out of the windows and local photography in the gallery area to purchase. A nice old church across street is reused as a museum. The quality of the food for my party of seven was all good. Large fresh cream jam scones seemed the favourte.I did notice the range of tray bakes, cakes, and scones were reduced on previous years. Sandwich, toasties soup etc all available. The soup needs moved back behind counter so that items ordered will all arrive at same time.A very minor criticism as its still a nice place to spend a coffee break.

Value was the first thing that comes to mind when I think of this place. I mean, a full breakfast was only a fiver (or something like that!), And it wasn't the usual very average breakfast either. It was good food and good meat. On top of all that, the photography on display is, for the most part, brilliant. As a mountain landscape photographer myself, I certainly found some of the images very inspirational. I would have taken one or two home, had it have been more practical (we were on a 4 week road trip living and sleeping in the car/camping...)

Our usual coffee haunt in Ullapool was not operational to the public on our trip, as a wedding was taking place there on that day, so we wandered along Argyle Street and went into the 'Mountain Cafe' / 'The Gallery Cafe' or whatever name it is going under this week. It's the building with the model climber climbing up (or down) the building to escape the awful coffee lol.... The cafe is above a 'Walking / Climbing / Camping' shop - opposite the old church which is now a very interesting museum well worth spending an hour or so in. Back to the 'Cafe'....Point 1 - Very expensive, 2 - very small cups - unless espresso coffee 'shot' cups were used in error, 3 - what can I say.... the coffe tasted..... (keep it clean) absoluterly AWFUL...... Summary, we learn from our mistakes. Our party HAVE now learned... not to return here for 'coffee'. Pictures on display were 'OK'.

On a two week trip around Scotland, this was by far the best breakfast we had in a cafe or pub. When we saw the price, we thought it might be on the small side, but it was the biggest one we had eaten the whole holiday! Haggis AND black pudding, bacon cooked just right, and toast on a separate plate (it didn't fit on the main plate, which is testament to just how big the breakfast was!). Have visited many times over the year and it has always been a safe bet for a nice breakfast, lunch or coffee & cake. Most recently though we have not been so impressed. When visiting last the cake selection looked nice enough, but apart from having lost the table service (it's even help yourself to soup now) the food options have gone rather basic too. The all day breakfast, always a highlight before, was disappointing, especially the cheap sausages. The pea and ham soup was tasteless with large potatoe chunks. The milk to go with coffee was well rationed and looked like skimmed milk. The average rating factors in previous better times I'm afraid, I am not set to return anytime soon.

We went there for a light lunch and it was a good choice for this as it seemed to specialise in toasties, paninis etc. The service was good and our food arrived quickly. I had a simple ham and cheese toastie which was ok and my wife had a chicken chilli panini which was very good. The cafe is brightly lit with pine tables and had radio 2 playing quietly in the background. Some nice artwork on display. We visited for a late lunch mid-afternoon on a cold March day and the cafe was still very busy with locals, always a good sign and we were not disappointed. There was plenty to choose from on the menu by way of panninis, sandwiches, all day breakfast and home made soup and a roll, with a pannini and soup combination offering excellent value for money for larger appetites. We opted for just the chicken, cheddar and sweet chilli jam panninis and a pot of tea and were not disappointed. The panninis were freshly cooked, with very generous portions of chicken and cheese and a small side salad. All the ingredients were of a very high quality and extremely tasty. Do not be put off by the entrance, which is through an outdoor clothing shop on the ground floor. The upstairs cafe, which is situated within a gallery displaying the most stunning photographs of scenery from the Assynt area is both homely and very welcoming. This was without doubt the best lunch we had in the whole fortnight and far surpassed similar eateries, such as the Storehouse at Foulis and the Dairy at Daviot, which also have had excellent reviews, both in terms of value and the quality and standard of food served. This is definitely the best place to go for cafe food in the NW Highlands & will be a regular lunch stop for us in future when we are in the area.

If you can't make it up into the hills, just browse the walls a nd photogrpahers catalogues. Handily paced above a clothing walking shop, we had a decent lunch in warm and comfortable surroundings. Recommend.

Wrong filling on a sandwich. Confusing to order with little help from staff. Had to mention my coffee three times to actually receive it. Then the lunch was badly affected by overhearing full blown argument between two staff members. Very very unprofessional.

Ullapool has one very good outdoor equipment shop, and this cafe is upstairs. Good food, sit out the weather or read the newspapers, no-one will rush you (except lots of others wanting to eat), and admire the photos of the NW of Scotland on sale. Seems the locals use the cafe well, too.

This cafe has a very comfortable setting and is reasonably large. I came here to stay out of the cold and use WIFI. Food was delicious. The soup was served in a big bowl. But unfortunately all soups ran out when I visited it a second time later the same day (because it was just too cold).

I went here with my family and my sister-in-law's family and we were impressed by the service and price for lunch. The service was quick and friendly and the choice was reasonable. The options for little children was very good and very reasonably priced. Recommended.

This is a great cafe in Ullapool, serving breakfasts, toasted snacks, baked potatoes and soups etc, all home cooked and fresh, lovely coffee, cakes and milkshakes also. Beautiful gallery within the cafe.

had a great veggie breakfast here, well cooked with quality ingredients. staff were very pleasant and at 6.95 for breakfast with toast and coffee(even a free refill on the coffee) i would say that it was excellent value. they also do a lot of light meal options and the menu looked as if there would be xomething for everybody and the selcetion of home bakes wes very appetising looking; for another visit i think though as definitely no room after that breakfast!

OK so you have to wait while the (all day) breakfast is cooked but you know that it's freshly made, hot, filling and really good value. And while you wait you can browse the photographs even if you might not be buying.

Great little cafe above an oudoor sports shop. Walls decorated with the work of local photographers, oh and the carrot cake is scrumptious!

We had breakfast here on numerous occasions this week while staying in Ullapool. It's the best breakfast we've ever had, full stop. The lady who cooked it, asked how we wanted each bit cooked, did us one breakfast when we turned up late and she had turned everything off and was an all round good egg. Do yourself a favour and visit the cafe, grab a breakfast and feast your eyes on Angus's amazing photos.

The food menu was quite wide ranging. It was promptly served and was of a high standard. The staff were polite. It is situated above a walking shop and the solid wood furniture solid wood, gave the interior a wonderful feel for climbers and hill walkers seeking sustinance. The cafe is set within a gallery. During our visit, the display included some wonderful photographic landscapes which were available to buy.

4 of us stopped here for brunch on the last day of a week's stay in Ullapool. One of the attractions for us was the promise of a good veggie cooked breakfast. There was also the possibility of hot filled rolls - egg, sausage etc. I caused total confusion by asking for a tattie scone and egg roll which the waitress found completely impossible to visualise. I have been ordering these for years in Glasgow without a hitch and thankfully another staff member was able to assist. The breakfasts took a while to appear as the cafe was busy but we all really enjoyed what we had ordered and wished we'd popped in sooner. It's not trying to be a fancy cafe - just the sort of place u can get brunch and a cuppa in the rain - and it served our purposes well. I liked the photo gallery a lot and bought a picture while the roll debate was getting resolved in the kitchen. We all thought it was good value at £6.95 for a big cooked breakfast and tea/ coffee refills, £3 for my very tasty roll.

Très agréable situation entre 2 ballades, service très prévenant. Des plats typiques, abordables. Le top après une journée de tourisme.

After poor experiences in Oban and Fort William this place restored our faith in a Scottish breakfast and hospitality. Great service, even better breakfast made with quality ingredients.

The Fish and Chip Shop is in our experience is without a doubt the BEST IN CAITHNESS AND SUTHERLAND! The fish was white and flakes. fried in beautiful crispy batter and the chips were perfect. We have experienced other Chip Shops in Wick,Thurso and Helmsdale, plus Mobile Chip Vans in Lybsterand Dunbeath and this has been the best so far too. We travelled around 30 miles to eat here and would do so again. THANK YOU.
