Juniper Place Cardiff in Cardiff

Had a lovely meal, Ellen looked after us and she was brilliant. Beautiful place and wonderful food. Excellent service

It was 430pm had booked a table, walked to the bar and was point blank ignored by 3 members of staff, they were not serving any customers, had to interrupt them to ask where to sit. Eventually got told we could sit anywhere, basic menu very limited menu, ordered two rib eye only to be told they only had one rib eye, had no choice but to order the flat iron. My fried asked for a salad instead of chips and was given a plate of green leafs. Plate was chipped, had to ask for steak knives. Not worth the price at all. More staff than customers and I can see why. Ordered garlic bread and cheese and was brought bread with a sprinkling of powdered cheese. We took one bite and had to leave it. Complained and the bread was taken off the bill. Has to be one of the worst meals I have had in the last 5 years.

I just want to say the service was amazing just two staff + chef they were calm polite and very patient as speedway event In Cardiff today . So this place was heaving . They just kept at it smiling as they went . Good for you and we’ll done .

Went here for my graduation dinner and although the one cocktail we had was good, service was very slow. Waited 20 minutes to order food and drink, tried the ordering app (QR code hidden under a vase on the table) but wasn’t working, had to go up and ask to order. Main was pork belly and plain noodles which came straight out of a packet onto the plate and were very bland (why not wok fry with some sesame oil and soy?) not happy considering this was £18. I’d say a good place for a few drinks but not for dinner.

Went here with a friend on a nice sunny day and booked a table for 12. Ordered drinks and food pretty promptly after arriving as we had to be somewhere by 2. There were only 2 members of staff working there and they weren't in much of a rush or seemingly that interested in customers. After we'd ordered and sat outside someone came out to tell us that there would be a half hour wait on food which seemed odd as we were one of the first tables there and first of the day so the kitchen should have been raring to go (came across that there was noone to man the kitchen or they were late). Food arrived after 45 minutes, burger was nice, but they'd run out of mayo. My friends portion was pretty tiny and she felt hungry afterwards. Looking at the menu in advance we were excited for pudding but decided to skip it and get out of there. To add to the experience there was no toilet paper in any of the 4 toilets and an hour later when my friend went there was still none. I've worked in restaurants before, toilets are always checked at the beginning of the shift, again, don't know what happened here. A couple next to us abandoned the restaurant and went across the road after waiting for attention. Id seen this restaurant on a previous visit to Cardiff and was looking forward to trying it but definitely wont bother again. Very disappointing. I'm sure after we left the place would have become much busier with all the concerts and football in town, have no idea how they were planning to manage that being as they couldn't manage with so few people earlier in the day

This is a wonderful restaurant! Our server, Tom, was friendly and very helpful. The drinks menu is extensive, my husband and I had fun picking out drinks to try. The kitchen happily accommodated a special request for an appetizer. And the lamb! It was the best I've ever had. My husband also loved his steak and declared his fries/chips to be perfect. Dessert was delicious too. I can't recommend this restaurant highly enough. I just wish we lived close enough to be regulars.

Well I must say, this was possibly the most disappointing experience that I have had going into any eatery ever, we visited Cardiff on April 30th and the city was buzzing, the sun was shining and we were looking forward to something nice to eat, everywhere was busy, so we took a chance and walked into Juniper Place lunchtime, not a single soul inside, we went outside and there were only three people outside, however the menu looked nice so we walked back in, we really shouldn't have bothered, there were 2 staff working, well. I say working the female was pouring a gin which spilled out of the measure and over the counter and threw it into a balloon glass which was then rammed with ice, the male wandered round and eventually went to the coffee machine, now I'm not too concerned about either of those things but the fact we stood like ghosts in a deserted western town with tumbleweed blowing round us does, we stood for quite some time and were completely ignored by the staff, not even eye contact, even when they walked round and past us it was the same, it was almost an aggressive we don't want you here atmosphere, and we have never been ignored for so long in any establishment, we felt unwanted, unvalued and the least important thing in the place except for the coffee machine. The staff were perhaps the least welcoming I have ever encountered and that includes here and abroad, no customer service skills or hospitality skills, I would comment on the food but we were never offered a seat, eye contact, a hello, sorry won't be long in an empty establishment, so we turned round after looking at each other after several minutes of feeling like lepers and went elsewhere where we were treated as valued patrons, I would never go back to this place, and would advise anyone to steer clear unless they like feeling unwanted or invisible, atrocious customer service and inexcusable staff

My partner and I came last night. Initially we had drinks and were deciding if we wanted food. We were greeted at the bar and I asked about the cocktail menu. We ordered and paid for 3 shotails and 2 other drinks and sat in an area near to the front door. A stag party came in not long after us and sat on an adjoining table. It's cardiff it happens so we had a bit of a laugh with the party but decided we wasn't going to eat here. We then ordered ans paid for another round of drinks and left the restaurant after the 2nd drink. We had made it just outside when 2 female waitresses came running out and accused us of not paying the bill. We explained we hadn't eaten and only had 2 rounds of drinks and both had been paid for. They went inside and we continued to walk. A male waiter then ran after us and caught us in the main street asking 'Do you know who you paid because they haven't put it through the till' everyone around us was looking and in utter embarrassment I showed my receipt out my bag. There was no apology and the waiter simply turned around and walked off. My partner and I were dumbfounded! Never ever has this happened before and the busiest time to be accused of leaving without paying is just awful! Drinks took ages to arrive and then to have this incident just made me really frustrated with the experience in this establishment that I needed to write a review. Customer service and experience should be important if the business wants people to return and recommend to others. This place was utterly abysmal!

Great food (honestly it was amazing) and brilliant service. We will most definitely be back, again and probably again another time too.

Four of us went for dinner Friday night and all agreed the food was terrible. Chicken was dry and the sides were dreadful. The worse choice was the calamari which was the worst I’ve ever eaten. Really disappointing!

Booked table of 5 with friends. Sat in a very dark corner at first no sight of screen (Wales rugby on). Not very busy, asked to move, staff went to ask Manager whilst we looked at drinks menu, sometime later he eventually returned to take drinks order…having forgotten to check which table we could relocate to. Off he went again to ask about table move still not taking drinks order. Finally returned to let us know where we could move to and took drinks order, we had been inside for approximately 20 minutes by now. We moved tables and no sign of drinks for at least a further 20 minutes! 2 staff working the bar area where we were one of about only 4 occupied tables. We requested a jug of water and another round of drinks as the first lot had taken so long. Placed food order consisting of 1 vegetarian dish and 4 burgers. Things seemed to be settling down, second round of drinks arrived and water. My friends vegetarian dish arrived at the table, we understand that different dishes take varying times to prepare so presumed the burgers would follow…sometime later when it was clear the kitchen staff were not preparing any food orders, we chased up the burger orders. Supervisor apologised explaining that the burgers had not printed put on the kitchen order but they would be done ASAP. Offered olives and bread whilst waiting, which arrived minutes ahead of the burgers. The burgers looked delicious….however, upon biting into them we found that all 4 burgers were pink/uncooked inside! Naturally we did not want to become unwell, the supervisor offered to get them re-cooked, whilst I was willing to wait for my burger to be recooked my friends had lost confidence entirely and we’re not willing to have a second attempt at their burgers. They ate their chips. When my thoroughly cooked burger arrived it was delicious but the nonsense and inefficiency of the service staff that went before completely took the pleasure put of the experience. Juniper Place is a nice venue with a good menu however is let down by either inexperienced or simply inefficient staff. We appreciate that staffing may have been impacted by COVID but it was not busy at the time.

Myself and my partner arrived for our booking at 7.30 on a Saturday and paid a deposit to reserved said table. We were shoved in a cramped corner at the front of restaurant (having to squeeze past 2 other table to even sit down) in-front of a window so the whole street could see us (like being the attraction at a zoo). The table was brass and which didn’t help that the area we were sat was also very cold. As the restaurant was so full and a large celebration being held in the back room I thought best not to ask to be moved as it was obviously going to be a no. Menus were given to us almost immediately and the server ran off. Granted it was very busy and the restaurant was full, meaning the servers were busy, but no one explained how we should order. Given the confusion due to Covid restrictions, was this on an open do the servers come over? After 15mins trying to flag a server, as we had questions about the menu, we gave up and ordered via the app. Very simple to do but definitely takes away from the personalised service and part of the experience of dining out. Within minutes our wine arrived. Pinot Grigio, always a safe bet, plus the wine list was limited. Given the company was so good, we hadn’t noticed how long we had waited. However I had noticed that very little food was coming out of the kitchen. I checked the time stamp on the app it stated 7.53pm. It was now 9.40pm! No server had come to say there was a delay (my thoughts were there was a delay due to the large party), issues in the kitchen etc. I went to the bar (yet again couldn’t flag down a server) to ask how much longer our food would be. The lady I spoke to was very polite, she had asked if I had ordered on the app, I stated yes (given we had no other option). The lady stated that the app has been having issues and some of the orders have not been sent though to the kitchen, and the kitchen was now closed so they could not serve the food anyway. I was annoyed to say the least. However it was not the servers fault but the communication was. She had stated this had happened to a few other tables. The server did offer a refund for the food we didn’t have, as to be expected. Why would I pay for something I haven’t had. Disappointingly there was no good will gesture or gesture of apology for the poor service and lack of communication. Felt as though they just didn’t care. Surely if you knew you had issues with a couple of tables, out of common sense and to save on hassle and complaints, you would of sent a server around to all tables just to let them know the app was having issues and check if they had ordered food and if it was missing. It’s not a big restaurant and there was plenty of staff on hovering by the bar at anyone time. To make the experience worse my deposit for the table was still table and of course not taken off the bill like it states when booking the table. I was reminded of this when I had an email at 6.40am this morning asking for feedback on our visit. Frustratingly there is no email address for the Cardiff Juniper Place that I could find. Hence why I am leaving feed back on here hoping they will contact me to discuss the issue and refund my deposit.

Visited Juniper Place on Saturday for lunch. We were made to feel welcome immediately. The food was well presented and tasty. The service was excellent- all the staff were very pleasant and helpful. This was our first visit but it certainly won’t be our last.
