By pure luck we thought we would have fish'n'chips after RIAT. They had a dining area which was great. We were unhappy with our hotel so wanted to spend as little time there as possible. The food was amazing and staff so lovely. Clean, good menu, excellent value for money - go there!

Don't be misled by the name. Their fish and chips are awsome and well cooked as is everything. We really didn't want the fish and chips (we had eaten it recently elswhere) so, we plumped for their Lamb Kebab. It was excelent and, probably one of the best we have had and that includes Turkey! We ordered a large and a childs size and ate them at one of their twenty place tables. So glad of our choice. We don't get back to the UK much these days from our home in Portugal but if we are in the area - Monica's is on our list

Best fish and chips we have had in a long time. Flakey fish and crispy batter. Very clean and the staff were very friendly. Well worth a visit

Absolutely awful dinner this evening. Have used this choppy many a times but have found lately that the pukka pies from the day before are reused and microwaved, so they are soggy and luke warm, as not served from the hot servery and appear from the back! So cold tonight we had to reheat at home and fish is soggy, swimming fat and not crisp. Won’t be returning and they should be ashamed of what was served tonight.

We were just passing through Lechlade and looking for a takeaway lunch and saw Monica’s Plaice on the High Street. We ordered the fish and chips and were delighted to see they were freshly cooked to order. The quality was excellent, the price was on par for The Cotswolds and the service was efficient. They also have a restaurant if you want to sit in - it closes at 1.30pm at lunchtime and the takeaway closes at 2pm. It is well worth the visit!

After a damp drizzly drive we pulled into Lechlade, a bit hungry. The wife saw that Monica's was open and said let's have fish and chips. We sat inside and ordered, the food came out in good time. Nice sized portions, the kids fish and chips were perfect for our 6 year old, and sausage and chips were just right for our 2 year old. I had haddock and chips with curry sauce and my wife had cod and chips with mushy peas. All of it was brilliant, nice and tasty. We'll definitely be going back next time we're down there, nice little fish bar and very friendly

Not disappointed. Very good value for money. Large portions and great quality. Although the decor is a bit outdated, the food very much makes up for it. Will definitely be returning again very soon 😊

Visited this establishment once before and was more than happy. Went again today with family of 12. Amazing food amazing friendly helpful staff. Accomdated us all with out hesitation can not fault and will return even though its a 40 mile trip. All of us ate a well cooked perfect portion size for just under £55. Thank you so much for accommodating us all.

We have eaten at this fish and chip shop before and it has always been nice but not for a while, so me and a friend thought we would try it again and we were not disappointed!! The staff were pleasant and smily and the seating area is cool in temperature (very welcome on a hot day!) and was very clean and the fish and chips were delightful, lovely white cod and light crisp batter and the chips were really nice too! I also think they are priced well, as a lot of the other eateries in Lechlade are a bit pretentious and overpriced for my taste!! Thank you guys and we will will be back!

When someone behind the counter says their fish comes from "the company" one should have the common sense to just turn around and walk out. When dog and I walked in to Monica's Plaice, I asked the person behind the counter from where the fish comes. His response was "the company"! When I clarified that I meant an ocean or a river he still insisted it was "the company" Stupidly I then ordered a medium fish and chips & then was told to wait outside with my well behaved, on a short leash, dog. I thought dogs were allowed in restaurants in the UK. I'm not sure if the people who have given this place a 4-star rating actually went to the same"Monica's Plaice" in Lechlade I went to. I guess the fish was OK as what can one expect from "the company"? And it's not as if Lechlade is on the coast. However, the chips were abominable! If they were freshly (even that day) cooked then I definitely have a bridge to sell you! If you are hungry in Lechlade, then I suggest not going to Monica's Plaice. That is, unless your taste buds are completely trashed from Covid or something similar or you enjoy soft, soggy grey looking chips, as you are bound to be disappointed. Even the smallest and usually crisp bits were soggy and tasted old! However, I guess if you're starving/everything else is shut, then there could be a case to be made. I would suggest a pre-made sandwich might be fresher.

This place was spot on for what we needed the evening we visited. A burger, kebab burger and chips (really good chips). Very tasty and a good price. I'd definitely use them again.

Waited out side after giving order for fish and chips, then I see locals pulling up and giving orders and take ing straight away I know I'm on holiday but a bit pissed off

We went here one evening not long after it opened and queuing outside was definitely worth it. We had a huge fish each and chips to share and we were stuffed. The staff were very friendly and they were adhering to Covid19 rules with taping of tables and chairs after cleaning them. Definitely worth a visit

Closed by Covid advice, Monicas Plaice reopened in early May. Ordered haddock, plaice, chips & peas last Thursday and collected 15 minutes later. Staff lovely as ever and food excellent! Social distancing maintained throughout. Well done, Monicas Plaice!

Cod or plaice, chips, mushy peas, curry sauce and lots of it. Sit in or take away whatever you will enjoy the fare at Monicas. Best fish and chips on our UK tour. And believe me we tried many.

My friend and I were staying in Lechlade so decided one night after a full day out we would walk round and get something from the chip shop for tea. We didn't realise that we could eat in so that was a pleasant surprise. We both ordered small chips, large fishcake and a large mushy peas and a soft drink. It was very busy both in the takeaway and eating in. We didn't have to wait long and the food was fresh and very nice. A lovely finish to the day and only £7.00. Definitely worth a visit 😀

The best fish and chips and food to die for. The staff are very friendly, the prices are inexpensive for a tourist town. They have a restaurant for a sit down meal or have a take away. The restaurant was spotless, and the service excellent.

Ate here twice and regretted it both times. Dry fish and tasteless limp chips then a lukewarm doner on a crisp dry pitta. Worst food I've had in decades.

Take away or eat in, the choice is yours. Excellent menu to choose from, at an affordable price. The dining area is very clean and comfortable. The staff are very helpful and friendly too.

Absolutely awful, not sure it was even chicken, obviously do not expect a gourmet meal but it would be nice if it had been edible. £6 for a pile of stuff that I doubt if a pig would eat.Avoid at all costs.Staff are also rude and ignorant, other food outlets are available close by.

I had just moved and could not find anything so went here to get a quick kebab although wouldn't call it that. Only good thing was some slightly soggy chips. Been told should have fish

2nd time I have had a takeaway from here. Not the best chippy in the World but helpings and value for money excellent. The food ( fish and chips) was OK albeit fish a bit greasy. When I was there it was busy hence food freshly cooked which is an advantage and helps the overall experience. Friendly people.

I live locally and whenever I can I support local businesses. This is one i will not be supporting anymore unless they really up their game. This is the third time in a year we have been disappointed. The fish is good, but the oil oozes out of the batter which is soggy and the chips defy description. I can get better fish and chips from a nearby establishment.

Everytime I'm driving through lechlade I usually stop here for a bite to eat, so much to choose from, great prices, quick and friendly service and the food is very nice. I love coming in the summer for the delicious thick shakes!

So im not usually one to complain but i hate soggy chips. I ordered a mini fish, chips and curry sauce and instead of serving the sauce separately i got it home and opened it up to realise they had poored it all over the fish and chips leaving everything as one soggy mess!!! I wasn't happy!

My wife lives scampi. We cannot get this back home in New Zealand so whenever we visit UK she eats a lot of it. And the scampi from this fish and chip shop was very good. The chips were great as well. I had a donner kebab which came with lots of meat, and tons of salad. Very good, and better than most of the kebabs I have in New Zealand.

I had fish and chips and my daughters had sausage and chips and scampi and chips. We all enjoyed the food, 2 large chips was far too much for the 4 of us. The staff were friendly too.

The chips were cold the beef burger was dripping of fat was not worth the journey there but the staff where fine

Overall this is a decent chippy. We visited a couple of times during our week here and our kids loved it. Portions and quality were great as were prices. We did get one poor portion of chips amongst our large order hence the 4 star review and not a 5.

Good fish and chips, service was quick and the food was tasty. I did consider eating but was not sure if there was table service (there was tables out the back). In the end I sat by the Thames and eat it. It was perfectly decent fish and chips.

We've been in here a couple of times. The southern fried chicken is not at all to my young son's taste but he loved the chicken wings. Fish is ok and chips ok. Better and cheaper than the pubs -- a little, clean cafe area at the back. A friendly, clean and decent Greasy Joe's, basically. The kids like cheesy chips.

I put digit to keyboard with trepidation because I don't really want others to discover what an excellent eatery this is! Wonderful service, good choice, sensible prices,clean and enough seating, toilets and open on Sunday.No frills but a fine place to eat if you need a decent fill.There, I hope my recomendation does not mean I cannot find a table in the future

I love getting fish and chips here, taking back to the boat and eating them with a glass of wine. Classy, eh?Chip portions are HUGE. Garlic relish moreish. And the family that run it are friendly too.

Best chippy around here. The haddock was excellent- meaty fish, with crispy batter and the chips were fantastic. Ordered 1 large portion for 2 people.... more than enough.We definitely won't go to any other chippies now we've found Monica's!

We have visited this superb Fish and Chip shop many times, and absolutely love it!We always eat in their restaurant section and I enjoy a large glass of chilled wine with my meal. Service, cleanliness, and quality are the tops.

For a change, we took our friends from Sheffield for a Friday Fish and Chip lunch. Absolutely first class fish, chips and mushy pees!

If you are someone who eats like a bird then avoid Monica's. The portion control doesn't work here a standard fish and chips will feed 2 adults with ease and a large portion will feed a family on its own.The food is well cooked and the staff are friendly but it's a bugger to park near so a short walk is needed. But be very aware of the parking restrictions in lechlade they do not mess about and for a small place there are a lot of wardens !But a visit to Monica's and a walk to the river for a picnic will give you a pleasant experience.

I had haddock and chips and it was fantastic and huge! The kids fish and chips were also generous portions that the our very hungry kids struggled to finish. Everything was served piping hot. Well worth a fish and chip supper if you are in the area.

Second time have used this place rather than our local one. Tells you something that would rather drive for 10 minutes to get a decent fish supper! Portions are huge even for children. Very tasty food and shall use again and again.

Fast, prompt courteous service by ex Madeira natives, and they don't seem to recognise the difference between large and you've got to be kidding. We got 3 fish and chips to feed 6 and still had plenty to spare. A small eat in at the back too marks this out as a bit different. Cross over the road and walk it off down the Thames pathway. Really well filleted fish and generous chips.

Found this place by chance having walked from Kelmscott and in need of refuelling.I had the Special OAP Lunch of Cod and Chips , Mushy peas, and Tea- generous portions of Cod and Chips nicely cooked and at very reasonable price of £5.50. Well worth seeking out if you need a quick snack. Pies are priced at £2 and standard price of Cod (large), Rock Salmon, Haddock and Plaice only £4 with chips priced at £1.80.Efficient friendly service.Nice clean cafe atmosphere, bright red decor.

Monica's is probably the best fish and chip shop in the UK! I appreciate this may sound like an overblown and bold statement, but I've eaten fish and chips all over the UK. For quality and value Monica's Plaice is unbeatable.The fish are huge. The chips are superb (they use Agria potatoes, which makes them crisp and dry).The value is excellent.The OAP special is especially good value.

We called here in the evening & had fish & chips, we also had chicken kebab with garlic mushrooms & salad all we can say is it was amazing.The service is excellent,the food tasty & superb value for money.A fabulous meal, well done to you all!

Recommended by a local friend (Swindon) when she heard we were camping at Bridge House campsite everyone feasted (HUGE portions) without having to work hard - within walking distance of the campsite too!

Just popped in as we were feeling a little peckish. Only had a portion of chips to share, we can honestly say they were the best chips we've had in ages. Crispy and golden, not greasy, generous portion size and very, very tasty. Our first visit, we'll be back.

Great sized portions and half decent chips. Donner Kebab was a great size but very greasy and also pale in colour so didnt look particularly appealing really. My husband had the mixed kebab- hes a big eater and not at all fussy but he didn't like it. Sorry but wouldnt recommend.

My mother and I stopped by for haddock and chips. We ordered two fish and one large chips. The chips was enough to feed an army and the size and taste of the fish very good. Worth the travel as our fish and chip shop in the area is not very good. We will be back.

The food was cheap and the portions were massive!! Very generous portions and could easily share anything on the menu, quality of the food really good also. A real find and much better than paying twice the amount for food from one of the local pubs.

When I go to the Fairford airshow I always make sure I stop here for a bag of cod and chips.Its always worth the wait.

I take my 95 year old dad to various fish bars around the county as we both love fish and chips. I saw monica,s plaice on trip advisor so we took a trip out to lechlade.we were greeted in a friendly way and shown to a lovely cool immaculate restaurant area where we could converse without clatter and noise like some fish bars we,ve been to.we had cod and chips and dad,s favourite haddock and chips.the food arrived fresh and piping hot, perfectly cooked and very tasty, only minor comment is that a small portion of chips is enough to feed an army ! we will be back.

Had a one night stay in Lechlade but did not fancy pub grub. Saw Monicas Place, looked clean and smell of fish and chips drew us in. We had cod and chips with a soft drink, and the fish was fantastic, chips lovely, portion size very very good. Staff were very pleasant and overall the experience was very good indeed. Value for money = £15 for the two of us. Well done, definitely worth a visit

This place is just up the road from our hotel and we fancied a change from hotel/pub grub.We ordered 2 chicken kebabs and a portion of chips.......the chips were excellent,kebabs were okay....all cooked fresh and reasonably priced too.

We visited Monicas Plaice at the weekend when we stayed at the New Inn. The food here is lovely the portions are huge and everything is fresh. My husband had the doner meat with chips and salad and he struggled to eat it all as there was so much. I had the 1/2 pounder with chips and it was delicious. Nice place to stop for a snack or to grab a take away.

We took the motorhome out today for a run and decided to treat ourselves to fish and chips from Monica's Plaice. We visit every time we need to run the motorhome out as you can guarantee excellent quality and massive portions! We had a large cod and small chips, fishcake and chips and a curry sauce. I had to wait for a few minutes as they cook the fish to order but it was worth the wait. Beautifully cooked and the cod was enormous! Very friendly service and they sell portugese custard tarts as well!It's nice to visit Lechlade and even nicer when you have such a fab takeaway as this. Plus they also have a small restaurant area out the back so if you want to sit and eat in you have that option too.

Well worth ordering or just waiting for, the fish is fresh and flaky. There are two branches now we use the one with parking on Burford road, it is Delicious

We stopped at Lechlade in the summer on the way home. Originally looking for a pub lunch but decided to try this place. Had to wait while they cooked the haddock my son wanted but it was worthwhile. Very large portions of both haddock and cod, we went down by the river to eat them. Chips were good as well. We both agreed it was the best fish and chips for a long time.

Visited Monica's plaice and ordered the plaice with chips. Nothing bad to say about the chips, they were good and the portions were large, however the fish was terrible. When I recieved the fish I was impressed by it size and appearance, but when I took it home and began to eat it, I discovered it was soggy, wet and had no flavour. The batter was ok but the fish was obviously frozen and full of water. It had shrunk whilst cooking and was only half the size of the batter. Like a bit of wet tissue inside a crisp packet.

My wife and I made a visit to this lovely town and decided to eat at Monica's. what a wonderful experience. Clean and friendly Fish bar which has a restaurant as well. Special prices for Pensioners. And the prices are very good. We had the fish and chips,Traditional Mush peas. wonderful.As well as a Pot of tea for 2 and a dessert for one Al for under £15. The staff are very friendly and the serving area and restaurantare spotless. If you are in Lechlade this is a must for a relaxing meal. when entering Lechlade from Fairford on the A417 Please look out for this wonderful place.

A fairly typical fish and chip bar, with eat-in seating area too.Fair prices, good chips (made on the premises, not bought in par-boiled and frozen). Reasonable range of food items - all the classic things you'd expect.I tried a 'cooked to order' piece of haddock which was absolutely wonderful in every respect. Lovely batter, well cooked fillet of fish inside, and very nice haddock, fresh and perfect.

Huge portions - we easily made three take-away portions of large cod and medium chips + three pots of mushy peas feed 4 adults and 3 kids. The fish was excellent, chips a little greasy (I'm being fussy), but all in all I'd be very happy to return.

This restaurant can be described as the 'curate's egg'-good in parts. We had the large cod and chips. The fish was excellent, a large portion as described, freshly cooked the right amount, with batter as we like it, not too crispy. Chips were reasonable,but no more than the average chip shop offering.However, we found that service with a smile was sadly lacking here, with no attempt made to engage us in conversation, apart from the taking of the order and delivery of our meals. Due to lack of space, the 20 seater restaurant area behand the takeaway section feels rather cramped, with barély room to fit two meals with condiments and coffee (which was good value at £1.30 a cup) on to a 2 seater table. Also, as my wife is a wheelchair user, we needed assistance to enter and exit the premises, which was given to us by other customers but not by the staff.

Sit down and enjoy some of the best fish and chips you will ever have from a chippy. Friendly service, large portions, tarter sauce good coffee all for a great price.

We eat in Monica's Place every week,the food is hot,beautifully cooked and the manager and staff are so friendly,in fact we consider it to be the best place for fish and chips.

Take-away fish and chips!We ordered 5.30pm Four Large Cod, One Steak Pie and Two Large Chips.The fish was thin and dry . . . looked like it had come frozen and pre-battered.The Chips were dry like they had been kept warm since lunch-time.The Pukka Pie was dry as though it had been kept warm for hours.I would never go there again and i certainly wouldn't recomend it unless you were drunk and desperate!

Heather and I stopped off in Lechlade on the way back to Wiltshire after a weekend in Yorkshire and this restaurant was recommended by a local person as being good for lunch. Plain, home cooked food, very good value for money, friendly service. We both had fish pie, which was extremely tasty, although the vegetables were a little over cooked, in the standard British manner. Not mushy, just without bite. It all tasted fine though, and the treacle tart for pudding was proper sticky. Perfect for a no frills, old fashioned lunch at an extremely reasonable price. Lovely ladies cooking and serving too. What's not to like?

This fish and chip shop is the best in Lechlade.No only a huge choice of take out, but eating in one of the best and largest fish and chip teas we have ever had.

Have been going to this fish restaurant for some years now with my family some of whom live in Ireland ,some in the U.S.A and have visited numerous other fish restaurants within a 20 mile radius and have yet to find a comparable one .The quality is top class,the portions are immense,value is great ,place is clean with clean toilets abn staff are welcoming and attentive

Visit Lechlade regularly, and needed a new place for lunch. Why have I not noticed this gem before. Perhaps because I did not realise they had a restaurant as well as takeaway. They do a very good OAP deal. The batter on the fish was light and crispy and the fish was a good size. Chips excellent, so will be going there again.

We have been using Monica's for three years now whenever we stay on our boat in the Marina - The food selection is excellent, but you cant beat their traditional fish and chips! If you are ordering for two, just order one large chips and it will still be more than you can eat, seriously!Top quality, value for money and quick service!

I found the staff to be very friendly and the food to be well priced. The chips were the best I had for a long time! Although I did not need to use the seating area, it looked very clean and welcoming. I would certainly visit again.
