We come here frequently as my Gran and Grandma love it. It is very welcoming and friendly. The staff always have a conversation and take the time to talk to you. The food is good pub food; for the price it is high quality and has good presentation. It is accommodating for all the family and we will be returning.

Always welcoming, all good freshly cooked food, plates nice and hot too. Senior citizens are catered for, supposedly smaller portions, they don't look smaller though!! Neither do the children's portions look smaller!! Just delicious. We live local so are lucky to be able to treat ourselves here whenever we choose.

Only three of us for Christmas day & so we booked lunch here rather than have to cook. Friendly and welcoming staff, nothing was too much trouble. Choice of four starters, carvery main course, selection of desserts followed by coffee & mince pies. Reasonably priced when compared with other restaurants offering Christmas day lunch. All very tasty. Only downside for us was pre-sliced turkey & ham rather than freshly carved as the beef was. Still, well worth the visit - an enjoyable lunch.

Visited for lunch on a Friday & were not disappointed. The bar is clean, airy & nicely decorated. Staff were welcoming & helpful throughout our visit. The menu is extensive & varied with options for children & senior citizens. Dessert board was quite extensive. Service was quick & all food that came was tasty & very nicely presented. Only downside for us was that drinks prices are quite steep - about £9 for a pint and large glass of wine. Hence 4stars rather than 5stars.

Staff were nice, very pleasant . The restaurant was pretty quiet, I had the rump steak, as did my son, my husband had veg lasagne and my daughter had a kids pizza. It took a while to come out, the chips were nice, the steak was a bit tough. The kids had ice cream for pudding, and with some soft drinks we were £77 lighter! Massively overpriced for what it was. Don't think we'll bother returning.

My wife has lunched at The Grove a few times with her friend but I had never been before. We ate in the bar as the Restaurant was closed, but it didn't spoil things. We had a reservation so were soon seated. There was an extensive menu as well as a specials board. As I don't tend to eat much at lunchtime I chose the 3 Cheese Ploughman's, as did my wife. The others chose Scampi, with salad & chips and a roast turkey dinner.

The staff were all very friendly and helpful, we waited about 20 minutes for our food but when it arrived it was freshly cooked, and delicious. I couldn't fault it. Real chips (not frozen) and the meal wasn't pre packed microwaved. I only ordered a small meal, but it was still to much. There is an extensive menu (there is even a slimmers menu). I will definitely be going back. Great value.

We stayed here for one night. We are two adults and two children. The pictures looked ok and the reviews seemed positive but when we arrived It was dark and musty. We were very tired and went to the room. It was not very clean. There was a used tissue under the bunk bed and we put our bag on top of the wardrobe which knocked all the dust off. The shower was very unclean. There were dead flies on the window ledge. The top bunk had the safety bar removed and we could not let our youngest sleep there incase he fell out. If we were not so tired we would have left. The breakfast in the morning was below average but the staff were very nice and friendly. I did mention to the staff member the room was very dirty and they seemed surprised but nothing was done. I would not stay there again.

I visited the Grove Court for a wedding anniversary and found my meal to be very good value( an Indian prawn curry for £ 9.95 with huge portions of curry, chips and rice), but nothing special. The prawns I found to be shrimps, which was a let down, the nan bread was OK but looked like it was out of a ready meal, although the chips and rice were very nice. My parents had a roast dinner where the vegetables looked like they came out of a tin and the roast beef was none too good.I would say if you want a large meal at a reasonable price, the Grove Court is good, and the service is prompt and friendly, it's just the meals seem to be made to a price and they skimp on quality. Won't be going back as for all it's not a bad restaurant, it's not particularly good. However, they do have a huge range of meals from Indian to vegetarian, which is a selling point.

Booked for family birthday. Pre ordered our food 5 days in advance as requested. When the food arrived it was shocking!Garlic mushrooms (mushrooms out of a tin). Steaks had obviously been pre-cooked and then either pre heated or kept under a heat light. All were dry and well done, not medium/rare as ordered. Even the addition of a peppercorn sauce (which also included tinned mushrooms) didn't help. Cumbeland sausage had been cooked to within an inch of it's life that it was black. No one came to our table to check if everything was ok and to top it off one of the waitresses dropped dirty cutlery over my mum (ruining her brand new outfit) and didn't even apologise. When I did complain we got the price of 1 steak knocked off our bill. How on earth do they cope with weddings & functions when they can't even get a small party right.

Visited for a two night getaway. The room was functional enough and the building from the outside is absolutely beautiful. However, the smell of stale cooking fat and damp inside the building is absolutely stomach churning. Asides from our room, the building interior really needs an update. Breakfast was attempted once and we simply couldn't face it again the next day and opted to pay to eat elsewhere. The food was absolutely swimming in grease and the produce tasted cheap- not at all enjoyable and even though it was included in our room rate, we couldn't face it again (we are not fussy people at all and are very easily pleased). The staff are fine- no comments positive or negative to be made. Overall I don't believe this hotel should continue to charge £75 per night until improvements are made.

We were told that they were full for evening meal, but we weren't bothered by this as the lunches we could see people eating didn't look that good, so we ate at a lovely pub nearby and thoroughly enjoyed it.The outside of the hotel is gorgeous but the inside is a big let down, it's shabby and old fashioned, although very clean and the beds were very comfy. I feel £90 for one night was over priced. The breakfast we were served was awful, one of the worst I've had, cheap sausages and cardboard fried bread and everything had a very peculiar taste, we left the lot apart from the toast.

Booked up after reading the reviews online and looking at pictures on their website but was very disappointed when we arrived, once an old school this "hotel" is in desperate need of an overhaul, our twin room was very cold and was told by the lady on reception that the heating was timed and would have to give it a boost if we were cold. The room had an aroma still not sure what of, but maybe it was the fried food smell that greeted us as we came in, the taps were broken and the shower hose was leaking, though the beds were comfortable. We were told about the restaurant and checked out the menu, being vegetarian we generally struggle to find a good choice and this place was no different also putting fish dishes in this section as well made us steer well clear, overall more like a youth hostel dormitory with a bar, as a venue has massive potential but desperately needs an injection of cash, thankfully we had only booked for one night.

Went here for Sunday dinner for my nephews birthday and was told we were in the conservatory but not shown to our table, when we found our table we weren't offered drinks so I just went to the bar and got them. When we ordered our meal I asked the young girl to check our order as she seemed new and upon checking we had things missing. A couple of minutes later another waitress also checked our orders which was fine as when we got our food everyone got what they ordered. Most people went for sunday dinners of either beef, pork or chicken (£7.95), which were all OK but they don't do mash potato which was a big disappointment, also the veg didn't arrive until after we had started eating our meals. My lad got steak and chips which he said was good. Some people got mushroom starters but they were a little too oily for us. Three courses was 11.95 I think, which was good value. When we asked for the desert menu we got a scrap of paper a few minutes later, I thought it was the bill at first, but it was a list of deserts. Deserts we got were kids ice cream, banoffee roulade, chocolate cake and keylime pie. All deserts were nice, with the chocolate cake being a much bigger portion size. All in all the food was OK but we felt the service showed room for improvement and for the first time in a long time I left no tip.

Went for a family meal 2 adults and 2 children... Our meals were perfect and plentiful... Children thoroughly enjoyed there's too... My eldest child wanted scampi which wasn't on the kids menu... We asked if he could have this as a kids meal and it wasn't a problem at all.., the staff are helpful and nothing is a problem for them... My partner and I both had steaks which were cooked exactly how we asked... £53 for 4 meals and puddings and drinks... Would highly recommend to anyone...

Went here after a long day walking in the Lakes. So had worked up an appetite.Unfortunately, the 'home cooked food' advertised was a huge disappointment. I ordered 'fried' Chicken Wings to start, which I was quickly presented with sloppy and slimy wings, which I would put alot of money on them being frozen and then microwaved. My main, the roast pork dinner also tasted of nothing and I suspected the vegetables were tinned and the meat reheated. The salad with the starter was the nicest and freshest part of the whole meal. The only saving grace was that the staff were lovely and the dining area was very clean. Food was too awful to give above a 1 start though.

My husband was born in this area and we go back quite a bit as his mom is still living there. This hotel has been a fav of mine from day one. The food is always top notch and the service is with a smile. The owners go out of their way to make you feel comfortable in a airy setting while you are dining. The surrounding countryside only adds to the fun of dining out. Try the Lumpy Bumpy Dessert its a real treat. Cheers!!

I dined here as part of a large party (25 people) on Saturday evening. The staff had reserved the conservatory area for our sole use which was a nice touch. Some of our party had pre-ordered their food and some had not. Despite this the food all arrived at the same time and most impressively, it was all hot and cooked exactly as requested. The majority of our party ordered meat based dishes. Mixed Grills, Steaks and Gammons. The food was universally well received. I ordered the Sirloin Steak with Chips, cooked medium rare. It was quite simply sensational. I don't recall if the menu gave a weight for the steak but it surpassed my expectations in both quality and size. It was so tender that I ate my meal with a regular knife. I was going to ask for a steak knife but simply didn't need one. I can't express enough how high the quality of the meat was. I was blown away. Top marks to the butcher.I also split the starter order of chicken wings (rather ominously called 'Wings of Fire') with a friend. I asked the waitress to instruct the chef to make them hot enough to hospitalise us (I had consumed some beer and was feeling brave!). The portion was small (6 wings) but extremely tasty. 15 minutes after eating them I still couldn't feel half of my face. Oddly enough we both felt that this was a plus point rather than something to worry about! In addition, I must praise the staff who dealt with our requests without batting an eyelid. They were all friendly and welcoming. Even ensuring that the young children in our party had their meals as soon as they were getting restless.I can't recommend this place highly enough. The decor is a little dated and at first the location seems somewhat unpromising, but I guarantee that the food and hospitality wouldn't be out of place in an upscale London restaurant.

Three of us enjoyed a lovely meal with good service at this restaurant. Friendly staff and bar-manager, who recommended the house wine to us ,which was excellent. When we arrived we were shown to the only table available in the bar area . This table seemed to have been squeezed in to a small space between other tables, which resulted in very close proximity to the other diners, we therefore could not enjoy our conversation with each other as it felt like we were seated in our neighbouring diners lap! We asked to be moved , however the bar was full with other diners and it appears the main dining area through the bar was not open. Therefore this was not possible. Worth a visit , but the Grove Court needs to sort out the seating arrangements with the customer in mind. A small problem , but who wants to share their meal and conversation with complete strangers?

I've stayed here a few times now through necessity rather than choice. The rooms are clean, but the bathrooms cold. The WiFi only works in a small part of the function room. The bar is usually empty. the thing I find most off-putting is the stench of fried food when you walk through the entrance, On the plus side, the staff are very helpful and friendly.

Village school converted into a budget family hotel. The accommodation is modest but clean with comfortable, generous sized rooms but probably the thinnest mattresses and pillows in civilisation. Very friendly and obliging staff. The breakfast is excellent quality, is well cooked and will last you all day. Did not dine, so cannot comment but the locals seem to eat there.I would certainly return.

I’ve been here a number of times and I have enjoyed it every time. The pub is set in beautiful surroundings. The atmosphere is happy and relaxed as it’s full of likeminded outdoorsy types. The food is tasty and has good portion sizes.

Shockingly dirty for a place serving food. Chairs an absolute disgrace. Dirty, stained, marked. I'm amazed environmental health hasn't been in and told them to get them cleaned. If it was only one I could have attempted to make some sort of excuse. But it wasn't. A group of us had gone for lunch but we all decided to find somewhere else. I'm honest baffled how Dixons are getting away with it? The Terrace cafe in Workington put this place to shame. I'm amazed people were eating there. We wouldn't go back. Pictures enclosed. Zoom in guys. Truly mehhhh 🙈🤮

This place is unreal! Honestly you could not write how bad it is, it’s that bad you just have to laugh. There is absolutely no organisation at all. There were 3 waiting on members of staff, none of which had a clue. They wandered around aimlessly with food & drinks with absolutely no idea what table they were for. They were in & out of the kitchen with the same plates of food, it was just bizarre. One table, while we were there, were given their mains at the same time as their starters! We had to ask for our table to be cleared, if you asked for anything it took them at least 20 minutes. I have never seen such poor service. Food was ok, nothing special. The only reason to return would be the comedy value, you cannot believe your eyes!

Honestly I've been to some decent places, between the absolute wordlie I was with and then Rebecca who we were lucky enough to serve us, food was absolutely unreal can't knock that in the slightest but Rebecca's genuine service from the off / personality is the reason I'll not think of anywhere else next time I'm back. Food amazing but I never leave reviews usually she deserves every second of praise. See you soon wor Becca x
