Roast dinners are amazing, we had beef and lamb which the meat was so soft, shame we didn't stay long enough to try the pies.

Discovered The Bear whilst searching for somewhere to have Sunday lunch. Two roast beef, one Caesar salad and a mushroom and Stilton pie later we were all impressed. The largest, crispiest Yorkshire puddings (also with the pie) and magnificent meals with as much on the plate as anyone could wish for. Good service with a smile and really good value. We were impressed. A very happy accident.

walked in when I saw it was steak night. We ordered 2 rib eyes and a veg burrito which were all cooked well and plenty of it. Well worth a visit and the barman/waiter/concierge, though busy as he was alone, still had time for us. We would have given a five star but the limited menu would put some people off.

We stopped off at BoA for a bite to eat & came across this little gem, wasnt sure I wanted a pie, but the menu looked great. So we ordered a steak & stilton & steak & cheese, they came with fries or mash and green veg & gravy. Pies were filled t the brim with meat, very tasty and pastry was light & fluffy. They are definitely worth the award winning accolade. The whole meal was buearuful , so filling. Staff were so friendly and inviting. My dog was even looked after by the lovely waiter. 5 stars and more

We haven't been here for a while and dropped in for a pie only to discover it had become a pub/curry house. Unperturbed we pushed on (there are worse things that could befall us). The chutneys with the pops, most notably the lime pickle, were fresh and delicious. The three mains, all off the specials section, where good to better and the dhall was utterly lovely. We will definitely come back or maybe order a takeaway when I will check out some of the classics; chicken dhansak anyone?

After ordering our drinks, we took a seat outside in the courtyard. The lights and the newly added gazebo had a nice feel, however was a little cramped. Unfortunately, our conversations were interupted by the barman, who just served us drinks. Smoking and speaking (to someone) very loudly about how he wasn’t very happy with the managers. However he then started SWEARING very loudley. Completely unprofessional and very rude. We also noticed that the serving staff were coming out and smoking too. In my opinion they shouldn’t be in the eyes of the customers smoking whilst on service. Especially if they are going to be not covering up their work uniform. Such ashame as it was my favourite place to go in Bradford-on-Avon.

Had our third take away this evening since they started and it is consistently very very good. These guys know what they are doing without a doubt, the restaurant will hopefully get busier as word spreads around. Great service too. A big bonus to boa. Only drawback are drinks for non eaters are expensive and not great, so maybe not a place to stop for a pint / glass of wine etc

We have always loved this pub, with great cider choices. But it is even better now that it serves curry. As a local we have been here twice in the last week. First time it was just my wife and I for a meal and a drink in the bar. The menu is fantastic, with a great range to choose from. If you like your bog standard style of curry the jalfrezi, but the second time we went, I took the in-laws and went for a chefs special, in which the flavour was fantastic. Everyone had something different, and each fish was exceptional. The quality of the produce used in their curries was really good, I can’t recommend this place highly enough. We will definitely be in here a lot.

Great location, and attentive staff. Sadly only 2 real ales on and both pale. One was poor taste so reluctantly chose default Fosters. Have real ale deliveries stalled ? Choice was lacking and quality lacking. Is the cellar man at fault ? Quirky interior and comfortable seating with unique patio/ garden are endearing. Atmosphere lacking. Would have tried home made our if hungry, maybe next time. Will give this place another shot after seeing reaction to review.

As I love a roast dinner and it was beef we swiftly ordered and was given the wine. The roast arrived which looked lovely but sadly all the veg was hard and the beef was nearly raw and chewy, the gravy was like dishwater. Wouldn't give it to the dog. Chef really needs to learn how to cook. Struggled to drink the wine mixed with lemonade, foul. Waste of money.Never ask a skinny girl for advice on food !

returned here over the weekend in spite of the poor showing last time where the food seemed to come from a disinterested kitchen. Even though the host through his reply seemed a tad sensitive to criticism and unlikely to take legitimate comment on board, this visit was much more positive. Everything was better - cheerier staff; fuller pub and a bit more life; and better food. My rabbit pie was a delight and the veg did not come across as an afterthought this time. My son had a burger - recommended if you are all pied-out but you'll really have to stretch per bite - they are HUGE. Thank you The Bear

The beef was cooked to perfection, the roast potatoes literally the best I've had and the variety and freshness of the vegetables was superb - not forgetting the lovely Yorkshire Pud of course! The pub itself is quirky in design with our only disappointment being that the light could have been better as we couldn't read any of the leaflets that were on offer. The staff were very friendly - and from the look of the pies that we saw going to another table they are just as good as the traditional Sunday lunch. We will definitely return to The Bear Inn and recommend it for a meal that surpassed all our expectations.

We stopped here just for a drink while the rain eased off - but my curiosity got the better of me and I looked at the menu. They have a decent selection of things - definitely something for everybody but the real star of the show is the huge choice of pies, available in 2 sizes. The small size is "for those with a lighter appetite" - well, I wouldn't say I had a lighter appetite but the small pie is more than enough for any person. To put it in to perspective - it eclipses any supermarket bought pie on size, then when you add in to that the amount of filling they put in to them - it's a full on meal. Pies come with mash and veg so for about £12 you get a proper meal. We didn't see the large size - but that has to be for a very hungry person or perhaps to share.Drinks are pretty standard prices - there was a deal on the house wine if you ordered between 5:30 & 6:30 so we made the most of that. I'd definitely go back.

So this time we decided to visit at night for an evening meal. We arrived at 6.30pm so it was still fairly quiet. I decided to have the steak and guinness whilst my husband had the steak and peppercorn pie. It took half an hour to arrive just as they had advised, so we had a pint of Tribute on draft to pass the time. My!! How I wish I had just stuck to the junior size pie. It was absolutely enormous !! My eyes had definitely been bigger than my belly! My advice : cut the pie in half - eat one half there and take the other half home- even my husband came nowhere near finishing. However, what must be made clear is that this was one of the most delicious pies I have ever tasted. Thoroughly recommended.

Although we arrived quite early the place was already busy with both drinkers and diners, but the solitary barman/server was cheerfully and effectively carrying out both roles. He dispensed drinks, took orders and served food whilst still managing to interact with customers and make small-talk, always with a smile. We were impressed! When our pies arrived we were even more impressed - they were absolutely delicious; we had steak and Guinness, steak and stilton and rabbit, and all were piping hot, and very generously proportioned - thank goodness we all went for the "Junior" size! The accompanying vegetables were perfectly cooked, not at all soggy. And to top it all, the bill for three meals and a perfectly acceptable bottle of Sauvignon Blanc came to under £12 per head thanks to a couple of generous mid-week offers on both food and wine. Highly recommended!

My partner and I went here on Saturday 7 February and had a great meal. The Bear is renowned for its pies - an amazing selection - and all come with veg and mashed potato. There's a great choice of pastry, too, although we both had shortcrust and it was delicious - definitely not out of a packet! The wait was quite long - but all pies are cooked to order, therefore we didn't mind waiting. Mine was traditional - steak - and superb, although the pastry was a little burnt (I would've complained but we had waited quite a while and it would have meant waiting a lot longer - so I put up with it, and it wasn't a major issue). The other one was chicken and mushroom with tarragon: so tasty. The pies are HUGE and but the pub supply containers to take home, which I did use for mine. Carrots a little hard but not complaining, although some may dislike; and the gravy, although nice, was probably granules and not that distinct. It was a real treat - if you like pies, this is the place to go, although there are other options, too. Great ales as well - we had Bath Gem which is great! Worth booking as we didn't and got the last table (by the door/window - quite cold) - and this was at 6pm.

The Bear is a quirky pub that eally only serves home made pies.We ordered the junior pies as we uderstood that the standard ones were only for folks who were really hungry. The pies weren't cheap but inview of the quality the price was right.Junior pies were under £10 . standard pies £13.95 if I remember correctly. We would go to The Bear again .

We decided to spend a day in Bradford-on-Avon having driven through it on our way to catch a flight for our holiday a few weeks ago. It looked to be a delightful village and it was. We had already stopped for a coffee but the main event of lunch was to be here after reading the reviews of the pies. We entered on a Saturday afternoon and it was surprisingly quiet but we didn't complain as no problems getting a table. My only disappointment is that only the junior pies are available at lunch times and we were really looking forward to the steak and guinness pie. The junior pies are smaller and much less variety than the normal sized ones. Actually for a lunch time the size was just right. When it arrived with veg and mash and a small jug of gravy my stomach gave a cheer! The pie lived up to my expectations. The gravy was gorgeous with a hint of rosemary, the pieces of steak were huge and tender no bits of gristle and the pastry flaky. Service, sadly not the best I've ever had, however this would not stop me returning as the quality of the food was excellent.

We were directed to the Bear Inn by the B&B, Alisa House, and we had the Steak and Ale and I had the Chicken and Stilton pies. They were extraordinary. We couldn't finish and were offered doggie bags (not taken up as we were in transit). Awesome.

Living locally I have often frequented this establishment without complaint however on my last visit I was shocked at how bad the service was. A few friends and I asked if, instead of the mash and veg the pies are usually served with we could have chips. I thought is wasn't an unreasonable request but the barman really huffed and puffed about it. Eventually we agreed a compromise whereby we would have pie and veg but with chips instead of mash. When the food came out it was pie, veg and mash. No chips. I stopped a passing waiter and explained. He assured me the chips would be right out. 20 minutes later and we had finished our food. The chips hadn't arrived and the waiter walked past without so much as a glance in our direction. I stopped him again and he went to chase it up. When he came back he advised that the chef had "closed the kitchen" and we wouldn't be getting our order. I asked to speak to someone in authority and the barman who had taken our order came over. He was extremely rude offering no apology and when I suggested that a round of drinks or some money back might be appropriate he gave us four pound coins, one for each of us! I again politely expressed my dissatisfaction and all the barman said was "well you know not to come here again hen don't you!" Yes I certainly do!

Have tried on several occasions to eat here but it is always full, so it would seem its excellent reputation was well deserved. Sadly we found that not to be so on a recent visit. This pub is renowned for its pies and is currently running a special offer where you get a free bottle of wine if you order four pies. This was not our sole reason for trying again, but a good incentive. On arrival we were told there were no pepper steak pies, and in fact no pepper steak of any sort. Rather odd then that there was pepper chicken available... Be that as it may, we proceeded to order three pies and something else, only to be told that two of the three pies (Junior Chicken and Mushroom) were not available - hence the peppered chicken option. The one pie which did arrive was large and tasty and probably did live up to its reputation. The other servings were very generous in their portion size. Two of our party said they would definitely return... two still need to be convinced.

Popped in with friends for an evening drink, small place but well laid out, with a lovely little patio area outside. Lack of drinks available to choose from however, no smirnoff ice, then they had only 2 choices of a bottle cider available! Won't be rushing back

The Sunday beef roast was very tender and accompanied with delicious selection of steamed veggies and yorkshire pudding. The following night we had one of the home baked beef pies. Best pie I have ever had. Choice of pastries is offered. Be warned the serving sizes are very very big. I went for the junior size and still found it more than ample. Highly recommend this place.

This place was a complete surprise. From the outside it looked rather drab and not too inviting. Inside however the choice of drinks and food was excellent. For the drinks we were offered a little "taster" of the local ales before selecting the one we wanted. The pies were out of this world! The choice was excellent and the quality of the food was super. The size was huge too! In fact as value for money goes this palce is a real MUST.

We stayed here for a night to break up the drive from Cornwall to London and it was a excellent surprise! Our room was huge, very clean and beautifully decorated. We went down stairs for our dinner, the pub was lovely and the young man behind the bar was so helpful and friendly. The pies looked so good so I went for the steak and mushroom and my partner had the chicken and chorizo. They were both tasted amazing and where huge! I couldn't finish mine and my other half struggled. Worth every penny!A bonus of staying there was that we got 20% off the food!!

My wife had the chicken & mushroom with chips & i had the steak & stilton with mash potato , we both agreed were very good & boy such good portions, almost left some, but i like a challenge. All washed down with a very nice Dartmoor Ale.In all we arrived there at 6.30 & were back home by 8pm, with no dishes to do a nice way to start the evening. We will return.

Came here for a sunday lunch after being recommended by the Tourist Info, and so glad we did.The £10.99 roast menu offers a selection of meats and access to the salad bar. The salad bar is really tasty, with lots of different options, but leave yourself some room, because the mains portions are enormous! Neither of us could finish. The roast beef was, no exaggeration, the best I've had. Tender, cooked to perfection and bountiful. My partner also really enjoyed his steak and stilton pie (which was huge despite being a 'junior' one).I enjoyed the wide range of ciders, particularly the Lemon and Ginger one.The pub itself is nicely and quite uniquely decorated, and looks fairly new. The garden courtyard was comfortable and attractive. The barman was very friendly and attentive - excellent service.Would definitely return.

We just came back from visiting Bradford-on-Avon, and were pleased with the beautiful area. When we visited The Bear public house on our first day, we noticed they had a good choice of their home made pies, we thought we would have food there the day before we came home. They stopped serving the food at around 20.20hrs, which was a shame as we liked the look of the menu of home made pies. Nice ales and a brilliant choice of Gin's and Vodka's. 'Josh' the barman who was a very friendly man, kept us entertained for the evening. We just regret not getting chance to sample the food.

My husband, daughter whose 4 & I tried to eat at this establishment whilst on holiday but on turning up at 6pm were told that children weren't allowed in after 7pm and as the meals take a while to prepare then we couldn't stay!! My husband was very disappointed as he loves pies and it was due to his love that we chose the pub. We then decided to try The Castle Inn who were glad to accommodate our daughter and served a fantastic meal, with exemplary service and we'll happily go back again.

As advertised, this is a pie and pint place, but well worth a visit. But be warned- unless you haven't eaten for days, stick to the Junior pies (or ask for a doggy bag, if you have the full size ones- they are huge!) A good atmosphere and excellent range of very tasty pies; (salad bar less exciting).

The young waiter was an absolute pleasure. And the food was stunning. Massive chunks of meat and plentiful fillings. I opted to have puff pastry on mine for a change. New favorite i think :)Hubby couldnt finish his.. but i hung on in there! But its nice that if you cant finish it. They offer you a takeout box and you enjoy the rest at home (they are huge!!)See you soon!

This is rapidly becoming my favourite pub in Bradford-on-Avon. Great beers with some from local small brewery's and some well known national brands. The food is pretty much pies and you get a salad bar visit as a starter. Whenever I have been in its been warm and busy, nice to see a real log fire not some "fuel effect" imitation. If you want a great watering hole in the town centre then give it a try.

Really love this pub. Especially as we love pies and the selection of great ales and beers. The pub offers a different culture than other places such as a salad bar, selection of dips etc and then of course a variety of every pie you can imagine, cooked fresh to order and always delicious. Check what size you order though as your eyes could be too big for your belly! Enjoy!

The pie we had, Steak and Stilton, was indeed very good. However it didn't pay off the horrible service. We tried to eat there twice before, because some of the people in the group were really keen on it, and every time the kitchen was closed,at 14h for lunch and then at 21h for dinner on a Saturday. We understood that, this is a small town. However when we finally got there on the right time, everything went wrong. The first of my friends to order was told there weren't any kind of steak pie only to see the rest of us being served exactly that later. When the last of us went to order, about 15 minutes later than the others, we were told that the chef was too busy and they were not taking any more others. Trying not to have dinner separetely, half of us were made to wait another 40 minutes to order. When we finally got the food, it was indeed very good, but we were frustraded and angry and the whole experience was not enjoyable.

When deciding where we wanted to eat, my friend found that The Bear apparently has the best pie in Wiltshire! They DO!! We both had the chicken and mushroom (free salad bar) and a huge plate of potatoes and vegetables. It was delicious. We were visiting the area and didn't realise it was a pub, and I had my 18mo old son with me, so the barman did tell us they don't usually let kids in after 6:30pm but since it wasn't busy and since my son was asleep, they would allow it - he was kind about it though.

The management of the Bunch of Grapes has now decamped over the road to the much larger Bear. But the pies and the real ale have gone with them, thank God. They offer the best range of mouth-watering, desperate-Dan sized pies you could ask for - 18 at last count. I'm addicted to the beef and stilton, but they're all great. This place isn't doing my waistline any good at all, but what a way to go! Oh, and if you don't like beer, the house wines are good quality and modestly priced too.

Saw that the Bear had a buy one get one half price offer on pie and mash during Wednesday and Thursday evenings. Popped in on Wednesday to give it a go. I had the beef and Stilton pie and it was pound for pound the best pie I have ever eaten. Hand made and freshly cooked. It was full of huge chunks of good beef and layered with Stilton. It was so goo I went back last night for the chicken and chorizo pie which again was amazing. To top it all off the venue is ambient and buzzy and full of locals supporting the trade. Will 100% be coming back. Well done guys and keep up the amazing work.

Absolutely dreadful! Advertised a la carte menu replaced with a 'bar' menu. Took the waiter 15 minutes to bring a menu and ask if we'd like drinks 40 minutes for food to arrive which was not hot. The pork belly my colleague had was wrapped in gooey fat not crackling, the pumpkin sauce was a teaspoon of orange 'something' and the seasonal veg was mashed potato and some peas. The chicken burger was deep fried and tasted of old fryer fat as did the 'tepid' skin in chips. Presentation of the burger was non existent and the two tiny leaves of lettuce were brown. This was fed back to the waiter when he finally returned to our table his response was he'd mention it to the Chef. The after dinner treat of sticky toffee pudding was solid and rubbery, not moist. The tiniest bit of ice cream and a token gesture at the sauce all was tepid. The dining room was cold and drafty. The decor tired and wall paper peeling off the ceiling and walls. Utterly awful experience with nobody interested in the overall shoddiness of the service and food. Really disappointing, especially as this is the closest hotel to work. A real missed opportunity for this Hotel and Restaurant.
