Superb Al fresco breakfast in a lovely courtyard right in the heart of this ancient historic village. Quality of ingredients was superb, the tea was delicious and the environment was delightful. I would heartily recommend

Visited yesterday (Sunday 4/6) morning with my wife for breakfast. She had a coffee and bacon sandwich and I had a tea and full English. The guy serving us (Scottish man) was very accommodating to both our requests to amend the items on the menu slightly; she wanted brown bread, for instance. He was also very friendly and a nice guy. The food was great and reasonably priced. Enjoyed eating out on the terrace in the sun. Will definitely revisit.

Visited here after a long hike across Eyam Moor for my 40th birthday. We had an evening meal for my birthday tea and as a coeliac this place was spot on, offering gluten free pizza bases, loaded nachos and OMG fries. Very friendly staff from the two gentlemen that served at the bar, fantastic cocktails, and the young man who served us food. Highly recommended.

The Coolstone The Coolstone is located in Eyam Derbyshire. When walking in you’re greeted with the warmest welcome from Nikki. She began to give a little insight about the restaurant in which we could sit anywhere we desired. As we were intrigued by the spiral staircase we decided to go upstairs, it was an extravagant room that oozed class. When choosing my gin I chose the Ring O Roses, gin which was a gin that is inspired by the dark history of the plague. The decor was just perfect in every way possible, it had stone walls which really made the whole restaurant come to life. This old building has been truly modernised. The Coolstone interior was mesmerising with, flowers interlocked around the ceiling, the traditional oak woodwork and the furniture seemed to suit this restaurant perfectly, it felt so homely. For starter I ordered the platter of smoked salmon, shaved fennel mayonnaise, capers, crispy shallot rings (£8.95) and Jen ordered the smoked haddock and chive risotto, Parmesan crisp, saffron oil (£8.50). I tried both starters and can confirm they were delicious and just the right portion size. For my main course I opted for 8oz Sirloin Steak (£24.95) and Jen went for the grilled fillet of salmon (£18.95). The sirloin steak was beautiful and was presented perfectly. The steak was so tender, the knife cut straight through. For dessert we both selected the sticky toffee pudding (£7.50) it was so tasty and more ish, a lovely finish to our meal. For my next drink I ordered the Spirit of Eyam Gin, Black as Death. This gin was a memorable one, out of the two gins I had tried the black as death had the edge, there was something about it a really nice gin and I especially loved the colour. Everything about this place fascinated me and it made me want to visit again. When in Eyam, visit The Coolstone. . . @thegintraveller__ on instagram for more photos.

Visiting Eyam in a blizzard probably isn’t the best way to see this fascinating village. However, The Coolstone was a welcome retreat for lunch. A good comprehensive menu and a vast selection of gins, some made locally. The bangers & mash is a good option, with great quality local sausages and panini’s (more like a muffin) were very good too. Quirky interior with great posters & LPs and a wonderful, huge print containing medieval remedies. The Black Death gin, although capitalising on a dark period of Eyam’s history (and why not?) is speckled with gold and very flavourful.

No tonic.Ordered a Mojito... Hmmm... Interesting.. Dash of rum, piece of lime, couple if ice cubes, 1 leaf of mint... Topped up with lemonade.... THIS IS NOT A MOJITO.Anyway sat and watched the totally untrained staff attemping time and time again take the wrong orders to the wrong tables.... Funny but really not at all as fhe staff looked totally bemused by the whole process..... Our pizzas went to 4 tables, back into the kitchen... To a gent that was sat on a bench... Into the bar... and eventually I called the young waiter over and he confirmed they were ours. Pizzas were very nice though.Sorry but the establishment looked like a really poorly run shopping centre food mall..I know that covid has taken its toll but this place is an absolute joke... Looking at the faces of the other customers I can only assume they were thinking the same as us!Spent £37 didn't enjoy a second... Took pizzas home.

I purchased a Mrs Fish sandwich as part of a lunchtime snack from The Nook, part of the Coolstone development. I am reluctant to post negative views, however this does warrant one. Unfortunately the sandwich was in fact a bap, so stale it was practically inedible. I specifically requested white bread but the bap was granary, adding to it’s tough and stale texture. The filling of smoked salmon was sparse and very dry, because the lemon dressing was non-existent, and the bap was packed out with rocket. Quite simply awful. The only reason I did not return the item was because it was absolutely hammering down with rain and I simply couldn’t face getting drenched again. The bap, a cup of tea and a small bakewell cost over £12 and frankly I wished I’d waited and found a decent pub offering a hot meal for the same price.

These comments relate specifically to 'The Nook', which is what I believe the little coffee shop that is associated with (and attached to) 'The Coolstone' bar and restaurant in Eyam is called. We chanced upon this on a recent visit to the 'Plague Village' of Eyam on Easter Sunday. As we wandered through Eyam Hall Courtyard, a small crowd had gathered - cyclists, ramblers, and visitors to the village - all enjoying coffee and what seemed to be a delectable range of savoury and sweet treats from this cafe. It enticed us in. The freshly brewed barista-style coffee was outstanding, but it was the mind-boggling array of sweet treats which left us gobsmacked... cakes, pastries, biscuits, slices and so on. We bought a couple of things, but it was the slice of White Rocky Road Chocolate that left us wanting more. It was the best Rocky Road Chocolate we've ever eaten. The best. And it was that little treat that will definitely entice us back to experience the wider delights that the 'Coolstone' has to offer, once COVID restrictions have lifted.

* It was Sunday 9th August and we had phoned earlier in the week to book a table for early Sunday evening ........ my birthday treat having arrived to stay at a nearby bnb. It was not busy and we were the only people to be seated inside to the left near the kitchen.* The greeting was friendly and we ordered drinks at the bar first. I joked that it was my birthday and a cherry in my drink would be nice!* We chose or table, the drinks arrived ..... minus a cherry ...... menus were given.* We ordered one chicken supreme and one fish and chips.* The waitress returned to say that the evening menu wasn't available as they'd been very busy on Monday, Tuesday & Wednesday with the 'Eat out to Help out' and had run out of some things ........ bear in mind this was Sunday evening now and we weren't warned about this on arrival.* We chose a minced lamb flatbread instead of the chicken ..... poor substitute.* As we waited, another couple were seated, given menus and told which dishes were available plus,"...... or there is the roast dinner."* What! We pointed out that that option hadn't been offered to us.* As we ate, another couple were seated and it was embarrassing to see the number of times the waitress had to return to tell them that yet another of their choices was not available.* The kitchen lights went out.* When my husband went to settle the bill, he was asked if everything had been all right so my husband told him about our experience for my birthday treat. The man (with the beard if I remember) apologised and said they'd been really busy.Well, that's good to hear BUT it's not good if you have booked a few days ahead and are looking forward to an evening out and are not made aware of the situation before you even sit down ...... when it's too late to leave. It wasn't beyond the realms of making amends for him to offer our two drinks free by way of making up for their lack of good service but, nothing but an apology.Hopefully, by now, this place has returned to normal as the scheme has finished but, having read others' reviews of disappointment, one would hope that, 'How to make up for when we disappoint people' will be addressed. From a disappointed Birthday Girl. :(

Gave them a 2nd chance, big mistake!Planned it last night a 5 mile walk round Eyam today and then to finish off at The Coolstone in the courtyard of Eyam Hall for a sit down lunch.Have previously had a bad experience at The Coolstone (See my review from Oct 2019) when I said it would close down and it did 3 months later!Anyway looks like it was taken over AGAIN in Feb 2020 so thought I would not hold a grudge. We finished our walk but it was only 11:15, so went over to The Coolstone just to take a look as I knew they did not open until 12.00, it was a hive of activity with deliveries & the clattering of pots being washed etc, the signs were all in position on the kirb side saying open 12:00 till late, the sign was outside the door saying wait here to be seated, all the tables were set out in the courtyard, I did wait at the sign to be seated just incase I could reserve a table for 12:00 but didn’t get anyone’s attention so walked back into Eyam and relaxed on a bench for 40 minutes. At 11:55 we took a stroll back to the Coolstone, I was surprised now to see many of the tables occupied by people eating sandwiches from the Deli (all part of the same group as the Coolstone I believe)Anyway I waited patiently at the sign that said wait here to be seated.I was greeted by what looked like the Chef who was quite surprised I was stood there at his sign.He said “can I help you?”I replied, “yes, have you a table for two”He replied “Sorry we are not opening until 5pm today as we have ran out of stock due to the busy day yesterday”I’m now furious, I’ve waited 45 minutes for the Coolstone to open, if this was the case then why not write this on one of the many chalk boards you have took the time to position round the courtyard & roadside this morning, they offered me the Delli as an alternative, I didn’t want a sandwich, I could have very nice one of these from The Village Green Cafe 45 minutes ago!I understand during these unprecedented times (Main 2 holiday weeks, hottest forecasted weeks post lock down, dine out to help out) that it’s going to be busy. When you hit November and Eyam is like a ghost time you’ll be wishing that you’d grabbed every opportunity with both hands and decided not to close for 5 hours during the main two summer holiday weeks. This place has had more owners in the last 5 years, I just can’t work out why!Good look.PS If you had publicised your unfortunate stock level problems on either your website, face book page, or old face book page that is still up & running or even on the chalk board this review would not have been necessary.

Fabulous meal. Wonderful flavours. Great service. Tasty smoked salmon starter. Superb belly pork main recommended by waitress and she was so right. Piquant pineapple to follow with pina colada sauce. Can’t wait for more.

Staff are very polite and welcoming. They seem to be adapting very well to changes brought forward by Covid with distancing while still keeping it a pleasant place to be.Coolstone is located in a lovely courtyard and is a very pleasant place to be on a dry day (large umberellas are provided on tables). The pulled beef Hoogie made a fantastic lunch and contained plenty of meat.Beer choices are Peroni or a selected draft from the local Eyam Brewing company among a few others.Very good value for our lunch. 2 Hoogies, 1 chips, pint of local beer and a pot of tea was £19.90.

Really good choice of menu, something for everyone in a family of 6. Main courses really reasonably priced. Ordered through the website and did click and collect. Food was delicious and a really high standard. We will be back.

First visit to Coolstone cafe/ restaurant within the courtyard of Eyam Hall . New owner operator and now open for about 2 weeks. Relaxed ambience and very smart comfortable decor. Food was very tasty including vegetarian chefs breakfast , homemade soup and excellent burger. Finished with great coffee and homemade rice crispy cake. A great place to spend with family and friends on a breezy February afternoon. We will be back.

Pleasant cafe in Eyam. We had all day breakfast at £9 with unlimited coffee, tasty and not that badly priced for a major tourist spot. Staff were friendly and the menu had lots of choice.

Came in for food after a walk not knowing the area well and if there would be anywhere else. Really should have walked on further. Very limited menu which for what is served is quite overpriced. Basic toasties with fillings in the small side for £5. For that price I was expecting a hell of a lot more. Needs to up it's game as other places in the village as well. It's very unlikely I will be returning to see if it does improve but given other reviews from early on the year I don't believe it will.

We called in today for a quick lunch and as it was a little cool chose The Coolstone as there is an indoor dog friendly eating area (lower level). The signs for the dog friendly area seem to have been removed but I asked at the counter and it was still the lower level. It's a bit of a pain as there are no menus so you have to keep swapping over to look after the dogs while one at a time going to the counter to read the boards.Choice was limited but sufficient for the snack lunch we required, we both went for Cheese & onion toasty but upon ordering this was sold out, its bread, cheese & onion...! how can you be sold out?Looks to me like all the toasties are pre packed along with all the sandwiches.Anyway my wife came back and we made another choice, soup, upon trying to order this we were informed there would be a 1hr wait on soup as it's not ready, this was 12:45 on a Sunday, I'm not sure when they were expecting the lunch time rush?We have been here once before and it was not much better then, the room is cold, the menu is limited and basic, we proceeded back to The Village green cafe in the square which never disappoints.Come on Coolstone you have a very good establishment with no substance, the two cafe's in the centre were both fit to bursting with many (including us) sat outside in the rain, they are serving a lot more then basic cheese toasties and had not run out.The fires should have been roaring, you should have a small menu of freshly made lunch time meals, you should go to the Village Green Cafe and see what they offer or the extensive menu at Eyam Tea Rooms that bursts at the seems with Cyclists.I've seen the Coolstone have at least three take overs in the last few years and I think another is on the horizon, during these winter months you only have 2 days a week to make some money, to have nothing on offer on Sunday lunch is suicidal.Pleeese pleeeese pleeeese pull your finger out.

I wouldn’t return again. The building was cold, the food was expensive and not particularly nice. The staff were unorganised and didn’t really know what they were doing. Food is left uncovered on the sides (quiche, sausage rolls, bakewell pudding) all which had flies around them. I wouldn’t visit again. There are better cafés down the road.

We had our midweek wedding reception here last week. Cannot praise them highly enough. Cary and Holly were so helpful and accomodated all our requests.nothing was too much trouble. The food was amazing, everything homemade and tailor made, without exception all our guests complimented on the quality and variety of the food. We had a buffet which worked so well with the number of guests.

We called here for a look around the little shops in the courtyard which are worth a look and took advantage of the Ice Cream on offer at Coolstone, as the weather was hot and sunny. It was close to closing time but the staff were still happy to serve us with a smile and efficient service not always the case at some establishments. Pretty good selection of flavours on offer and a reasonable price.

This is in the heart of the Peak District Derbyshire - it's not central London. So when i see a plain scone for sale at £3.50 I baulk and leave ..... even if it has the audacity to describe itself as a 'butter' scone.

Called in at this cafe whilst out walking the dogs. All the cafes are dog friendly but this one has the best location and coffee. We sat in the courtyard as lovely weather but could have sat indoors with the dogs as there is a section you can taken them in. We only had lattes but they were lovely. The young lad who made them was very friendly and chatty. Would recommend to all. The food coming out looked lovely and was tempted to buy the great looking cakes, sausage rolls and doughnuts but was good on this occasion.

The food was dreadful and expensive. Can’t say it any plainer. Schnitzel was burnt and poorly presented. Pasted was soggy. The very worst was the waffles which had been microwaved and were solid! Just the two us for a birthday meal with one drink each and it cost £91!

I called in with my wife on a Saturday afternoon for some lunch. We both had gammon, egg and chips which was very good. They were proper chips and tasted like they were cooked in beef dripping. Delicious. The staff were very pleasant. The only slight criticism we had was that it took 50 minutes for our food to arrive. It wasn't an issue for us as we weren't in any rush. I always think though, that if your food is going to be half an hour or more, it's just courtesy to let the customers know. They can then decide whether or not to stay. All in all though, apart from the wait, we couldn't really fault the place.
