Wansford Country Lounge Cafe Bar in Huntingdonshire

Now reopened (Under new management?) with new furniture and a return to the quality and welcome of the past. When originally opened, the cafe offered a lovely "family feel" with excellent service and quality. The cafe had slumped badly in the quality of the experience in recent years, after a change of owners, and my previous visit had been quite unpleasant, so it was VERY refreshing to find a smiling welcome, rapid service and excellent coffee. The new tables are perhaps less rustic than the previous versions, which has lost a little of the atmosphere, but the cafe is scrupulously clean and retains the previous layout. The seating area is quite small and if you are planning to lunch there I would say that booking is essential. It does get very busy at times. The food is reasonably priced, though not "cheap" and the quality was excellent. Attention to detail has made a huge difference to the offering and it is clear that the bad memory of the past has been banished.

As retired couples we have often met up here for walks in the surrounding countryside. On a recent trip we were seated at a table and were then approached by one of the staff and told the table was reserved in around 40 minutes so could we move. We obliged and moved to a nearby table they suggested which had clearly not been wiped down in some time and was full of crumbs and tea cup rings. Having ordered teas we were almost finished when we were asked to vacate the table as there were other people "waiting" The staff were abrupt and verging on being rude - totally unacceptable - and appeared to care little for existing customers if the next potential customers looked like being bigger spenders. None of the tables had "Reserved" signs on them so the reservation system was rather ad hoc. The drinks were ok if quite expensive for what you get, but the standards of service are reduced to unacceptable levels. All a terrible shame as this place was a relaxing and pleasant place to meet up - was this a change in management or a change in staffing? Perhaps the popularity of the place has overwhelmed their ability to cope? Two young ladies were the only staff we could see and they seriously need training in how to communicate and deal with customers. Truly dreadful. A very shoddy experience which we will not be having again as I refuse to enter the place in future. I would recommend you avoid the Wansford Country Lounge. Very, very disappointing.

It was packed on a weekday lunchtime so much be doing something right. Food was average. Upmarket garden centre food rather than bistro. A pleasant lunch but could be better. Also I could see this place as a superb funky evening venue with light bites and music.

Visited here whilst staying nearby. Quite small but you can book. We didn’t and we were very lucky to get a table. We arrived just at the right time, but lots after us were turned away. Lovely staff, efficient and were always busy. Smart cafe with a good menu. We had coffee and the juice which was carrot, ginger and apple, freshly made. I had scrambled eggs and bacon with toast and it was tasty. Quite a few well behaved dogs in. Enjoyed our visit.

Booked breakfast on our way home from Cambridge after our hotel let us down. Great breakfast, hot coffee, lovely staff. Recommended if you're travelling up or down the A1, so much nicer than a service station.

First time at Country Lounge, nice place and great location, just off A1 North. Easy parking too. The food was great, I had steak ale pie, mash potato and carrots. Will go back again.

Ive visited this lovely cafe many times and had nice coffee and breakfasts. Today visited for lunch wasnt busy, but appears they didnt have a few things on the menu. Lack of Salmon and crayfish I can understand , maybe a popular dish? But not to have tomatoes in house for a BLT or Chicken Club made it rather dry. Despite asking didnt get any discount or apology when paying the bill. Come on Chef, get a grip , could have sent out for some at the local shop surely? And the potato salad was no more than 4 thumbsize halves of new potato. So yes.. a dissapointing lunch my friends didnt seem overwhelmed with their choices either. If Chef would care to reply be interested in their response.?

We arrived for a reserved booking and found that there wasn’t a table reserved. This mishap was put right by the 2 excellent waitresses after a while and this poor start to the event was more than recovered by an excellent breakfast. I had the full English which was made with great ingredients and my wife had the avocado and salmon. Great coffee and extremely good service from the girls.

We have stopped many times for breakfast when passing through. Lovely eggs Benedict and full English plus the coffee is good too. By chance we were nearby the other afternoon and they do a superb cake and coffee too: nothing flash just a superb homemade cake and a decent coffee. It was worth the stop

Great place for a bite to eat and a decent pot of tea. Friendly staff well presented decent food. Had Crayfish sandwich which was excellent. Only critical point , don't put dressing on salad beforehand. I had to leave mine as I prefer it without or balsamic. Looked great as well !

I visited this cafe for some tea and cake which was very good if not expensive. However the visit was marred somewhat by a customer who was leaning on the counter talking to the man behind (possibly the proprietor). His conversation used bad language (Eff this Eff that) and this was easily heard throughout the cafe. This man should have been told to sort out his language or leave.

We have stopped here a few times and always enjoy the fare. The flavours are excellent and the chef seems to be able to get the most from his ingredients. Very tasty and full of yummy flavours. Coffees are excellent. Easy parking and good surroundings. Worth a detour if you are on either the A1 or A47 or just enjoying the countryside drive.

A very close friend booked a table at the Wansford kitchen for Friday 28th January. for a party of four to enjoy lunch. This had been booked for several weeks and the relevant guests were traveling for all over England to meet up. My friend sent me a message today to inform me that this establishment had sent her a message to say they are unable to secure this booking as they have a larger party attending that day and they need the room. I have never been to this place and indeed will never go after such a disgracefully act. Bad manors and extremely rude. Please beware of booking everyone.

Booked a table for lunch and not disappointed, great sandwiches, i had the burger which was first class. Staff really helpful and reasonably priced will definitely be going back

Well worth a visit if you are passing that way. We only had coffee but the food looked pretty good too. Friendly staff as well.

We were camping nearby and were looking for a breakfast venue. Having walked through the village the previous evening, this looked a likely candidate. We arrived at around 10:30 only to find that all tables were booked. We opted to sit outside despite the possibility of rain. However, when a cancellation meant a table became available the staff came straight outside and suggested we sit in instead. We gratefully accepted although, in fact, the rain held off.Menu choices covered a tempting array of modern classics: avocado on sourdough with poached eggs, eggs benedict, samoked salmon options etc. as well as the full english and pancake stacks. I went for the avocado on sourdough with smoked salmon and poached egg. The avocado was undressed and therefore the ensemble was a little dry - it would have benefited from a dollop of hollandaise I think. It was, however, delicious. Another member of the family opted for a full english which the declared excellent. I had a couple of espresso coffees which were a little disappointing and inconsistent. They lacked a crema and the first wasn't terribly intense - barista training? Overall, though, we had a lovely breakfast in a pleasant and relaxed atmosphere. I would definitely recommend booking at weekends.

Ordered just tea for 2 people. Dreadful cheap teabags floating in a teapot. I don’t think the water had even been properly thoroughly boiled either. Poor ‘uninterested ‘ service too. The waitress did not ‘ want to know’. Busy on her phone.

Found on Google whilst in the area for work, grabbed a bit of cake and a coffee and wasn’t disappointed. Lovely food and lovely staff in a welcoming atmosphere. Thank-you.

Fabulous service both booking on phone and whilst at venue, great lunch and coffee. Shame that some female customers did not obey the government guidelines of wearing a face mask whilst walking about with baby/visiting bathroom etc This has really put me off taking vulnerable members of my family back for another visit. Hope others are supportive and protect the staff that are serving

Went for breakfast with my brother, not acceptable. The local Sibby Diner is better and cheaper. The bacon was overcooked, eggs undercooked 😢

Popped in here whilst driving through Wansford. W wardrobes and it was fairly busy. No real Covid precautions at all apart from a track and trace code. Tables not wiped and customers were queueing up to pay at the counter some without masks. I had a full English and the bacon was deep fried for too long and the toast had a cheap margarine on it. The scrambled eggs were microwaves also.Could be much better

Thoroughly recommend the chocolate ombre cake. Staff wearing visors but didn't see track and trace being implemented. Staff friendly looking forward to returning.

The breakfast menu selection is suitable for all tastes and fairly priced. The one young lady on duty was pleasant and beverages and food delivered promptly. The poached eggs were superb. A very enjoyable start to the day.Would have been 5 stars but no track or trace and menus were obviously not single use, and tables/chairs not disinfected after use. Implement the covid 19 requirements and it would be 5 stars.

We called in for a cup of tea after a walk. The young lady who served us was absolutely delightful - cheerful, friendly and just so nice. We had a ‘proper’ pot of tea and our tea cakes arrived promptly. So did a bowl of water for the dog!

What used to be our "go to" place for breakfast, coffee or a light lunch is letting its standard slip.This morning tables were neither cleared quickly after guests had departed, but more importantly no effort was made to wipe down the tables and chairs as per the Covid guidelines.The two staff on duty were more interested in chatting to each other than making sure their cafe was a welcoming and safe environment

Good family brunch / breakfast - usual high standard of food, service and great ambiance. Fresh local eggs and great coffee.

We were looking forward to trying out the Wansford Country Lounge as it looks such a nice place. The interior is very pleasant and there is outdoor seating at the front. However, the breakfast was really disappointing and the service slow and poor. We thought that they would be doing the Eat Out to Help Out scheme, but they are not and the breakfast at full price was not good value for money. They also could do with more staff for the number of tables; literally just one person at the front taking orders and serving. It feels like they are cutting corners to maximise profit. Even the tea came already in a cup, with no teapot. The paper menus were dirty and clearly re-used and they did not do Track and Trace, not bothering to take our contact details. A disappointing experience and we will not be going back.

Saw on their Facebook page that they were part of the ‘Eat out to help out’ scheme so thought it would be nice to take the family for breakfast. Visited the cafe bar for coffee before starting a walk in Wansford and we weren't disappointed. The ambience was perfect, the staff very friendly and attentive and a good coffee was served. It's just a shame we don't live nearer to enable us to come more often!

I have visited this cafe on several occasions whilst travelling on the A1. It is a pleasantly decorated small cafe/restaurant, with charming staff and a good range of food on the menu from coffee and homemade cakes to light meals and a good "Specials" board with some lovely choices for lunch.It is certainly gaining in popularity and at times seating and parking can be a problem. Prices are reasonable and I have never been disappointed with the food. The only thing that makes me hesitate to give it my highest recommendation is the thought that if it becomes too popular I may not get a seat next time!

As frequent visitors My husband had pate and toast which now consists of a lot less than it used to, one round of toast and a thin bit of pate, with onion chutney padded out with a lot of salad to fill the plate so as not to emphasise how small the portion really was.(£7.95)I had a BLT sandwich which was nice ,but not too generously filled, again padded out with potato salad with a lot of green leaves with mayo. (6.95)In both dishes ,the bread while fresh and tasty was ready sliced and rather thin, nice fresh hand carved artisan bread would have been better, and some different choices of pate.,After todays visit we feel it's another place where success makes for being greedy and are on the slippery slope to hiking the prices beyond what is reasonable.I also think its now rather boring as our perception is that the menu has never changed since they opened a couple of years ago, only the specials give it a bit of a lift ,but tend to be even more expensive for what they are, todays Jacket potato with whatever filling is extortion at £11.95Coffee and service as always was good, but there is huge competition in the surrounding area using local produce at reasonable prices offering good service in nice surroundings.Regrettably we think it will only be a coffee in future, don't like being ripped off!

We wanted a brunch place with nice coffee and food, and we were not sorry. Lovely decor and food was well priced and tasty. The staff were accommodating for an 8 month old. We shall be voguing again.

Took a dear friend out to brunch here....lovely as always! Normally just have coffee & cake but we had the brunch menu today....lovely well cooked, hot food served with little to no wait. Lovely/friendly welcome too. Will be back again soon!!

Arrived to a busy Sunday morning where we were hoping to have coffee and a snack. Was obviously very busy but we stood just inside the door and none of the staff even acknowledged we were there. They could have just called out that they would be with us in a minute or just come over to say, sorry we are full but they just ignored us so we left and went to the lovely hotel opposite who made us much more welcome

The Country Lounge has a relaxing atmosphere possibly because of the thoughtful decor, cheerful log burner and a variety of seating arrangements. The food is varied, of good quality and delicious. The delightful ladies waiting the tables were extremely busy however they were ,as mentioned in the title, fabulous, friendly and efficient. I was impressed at how cheerfully and calmly they dealt with a busy morning. Although, it was busy we never felt rushed and was able to have a long chat in a great environment. This is just the kind of place I shall enjoy sharing with my friends.

Massively disappointing because it has the potential to be great. I have visited a number of times, but this was absolutely my last. The food has always been nice enough, but not great enough to warrant the wait you will be subjected to. Nice environment for a leisurely breakfast, but you will need to set aside a large chunk of your morning. The service has never been exactly swift, but my last experience was nothing short of painful.Id taken family there for coffee and cake, but even so early on there was a pitiful choice of cake so we just had a drink. Admittedly not the staff's fault, but there was a large group of young guys in there who were incredibly rowdy, and it feel more akin to being in a Wetherspoons than a relaxing cafe bar.It really feels like it is being run as a hobby by the kids of rich parents for their local friends who just want to hang out. If you want to gauge how much management care for the customers' experience and reputation of their business, you will note their failure to respond to any of these reviews and offer an apologies. Unforgiveable.

Wansford is a beautiful village and the Country lounge is a special cafe/bar. Super atmosphere and the staff were wonderful. Carrot and coriander soup was perfect and the chicken and bacon burger with sweet potato wedges was very good. Finished off with a nice chocolate brownie with ice cream. The Malbec wine was very nice too. If you are on the A1 and looking for a good stop then this is the place.

Very cosy place with the wood burner going on a chilly day. Good choice of food and everything seemed freshly prepared. Staff friendly and place very clean and tidy.

Popped here before a wedding at th ehotel. Arrived in time for the breakfast menu - lovely food; pleasnat service.

We visited for brunch and only one table available which means it must be popular. Service was a bit slow and thought staff were not very well trained in the art of good customer service. They were not rude but had to be asked twice for things and service was slow, they almost seemed shy!! I like the menu but my friends wanted more choice I think. I will be back as its great coffee and great eggs. The table was very sticky really needed a good clean.

Popped in for breakfast on the way to Stamford. Breakfast menu quite comprehensive and available until noon. Had Eggs Benedict (£6.95), the poached eggs were prefect, beautifully cooked with a deep golden yolk. Good food, good atmosphere, good service.

Been here twice, first time with my friends, second with the children. Had eggs royale, scrambled, bacon bun and some hot beverages. Enjoyed it, so did the children. Good, local and chilled place. Will be back.

We enjoyed our visit here but the food we wanted from the menu wasn’t available unfortunately. It’s a pleasant place and so easy to get to off the A1.

We pre-booked a table for a group of friends for Saturday lunchtime. The service was really poor and the staff were not at all attentive. We were not offered drinks, what drinks we had didn’t come iced, we were not offered puddings and the staff looked really disinterested. The staff spent too much time on their mobile phones and overall it was a poor experience in terms of service. The food took over an hour to arrive after being ordered from the light lunch menu. The food itself was okay but no better than okay. Having read through previous reviews I can’t see this place lasting too much longer because the staff and management do not seem to be learning from previous comments made. The toilet was was dirty. Perhaps less time spent by the staff on their phones serving customers would not go amiss.

Visited after lunch. Informed it was table service by the server. Sat down with my husband. Others came in got served ....left after 15 minutes, fed up waiting . Will never visit again

Really disappointed. We went for coffee and found the staff (one man) to be rude and unwelcoming. He kicked furniture to move it, forgot part of our order and was rude when he spoke to us. What a shame! We will not be returning.

Four friends turned up for a light lunch this Monday lunch time. This was my first visit, I thought it was nice and cosy, a reasonably sized room with plenty of tables and the occasional armchair.

We'd been warned that although the food is creative, fresh and very good, they are often slow. Perhaps we were ready, perhaps they're no longer slow, but we had no problems.

We arrived and took a seat, there where a couple of tables in, that had already eaten and drank, the two girls working where both serving the lady takeaway cake at the counter, after 15min i was ready for leaving, then after the lady had left with her cake, the girl stood there on her phone, i know this as i could see the mirror in her ted baker phone case reflecting the light !!

Really enjoyed a corporate Christmas gathering of 20 people. Arrived early in time to have one of their full English breakfasts, very nice and tasty. This is a country venue (is says what it does on the box!) in the delightful village of Wansford. This is a place to have some coffee and cake and sit and chat, in a quiet setting. Have been back for lunch which was quiche and salad, well cooked and good portion. I would go back again.

Decided to have a ride out for one of the aunties birthday for lunch and this place was recommended. What a delightful place, just off the A1 in a wonderful setting with lovely staff and some great menu choices. Great find, can’t wait to go back in the summer.

I’ve visited twice both in the week and weekend and have recommended to friends.

Visited here with my partner and another couple for breakfast. The menu has a lot of Choice and the prices are good value. The service was exceptional and when the food arrived it was delicious. The cafe itself has a great atmosphere and lovely log burner making it feel warm and welcoming. Bradley the owner really looked after us. Anytime I’m visiting the Stamford area this is where I’ll come.

There is a cosy confortable atmosphere in this popular cafe. The food is home cooked and tasty, with just the right amount on the plate. The coffee blend is excellent and it’s very friendly here. Recommended.

Called here for lunch. We were very early, the service was very good and the food on the whole very good. Slightly expensive. Gluten free and vegetarian well catered for. It is not very big so ensure you can find somewhere to sit. It is new so will improve

They had run out of roast potatoes, but the new potatoes they provided instead were a good alternative. Waiter was friendly and polite and very apologetic. The crayfish and smoked salmon starter was excellent, also the walnut and coffee cake.

Went with friends two weeks past, never again!. Not a great choice of food, staff not interested and we will not be returning.

This is the first time i had been here, very expensive, £28 ish for 2 brekkies, not enough on the plate to justify this cost for sure, it also sells alcoholic drinks for lunch.

We hadnt visited for a few months but returned for lunch yesterday. We had a super lunch. Very friendly and efficient service with a great atmosphere. Food choice is limited but having said that I was spoilt for choice. It was no problem to offer my son a small portion of roast which he said was delicious. Would highly recommend.

We are so pleased to have found the Wansford Country Lounge Cafe. What a great place! The food is just the sort of thing we love to eat and it’s so reasonably priced compared to other places we’ve visited and, more importantly, it’s really tasty. Brad is a great host, with Noah waiting tables. The pair of them made it a happy atmosphere when we were there for brunch. It’s super convenient for us, so we will definitely be back!

Lovely, friendly, relaxed, delicious breakfast. Very accommodating for a little one in a high chair also. A hidden gem right on our doorstep.

We stayed in Yarwell mill caravan park and decided after arriving to walk to Wansford we walked along the nene and found this place not a huge menu but something for everyone, food was delicious sensible price and service was spot on very enjoyable lunch well done.

A large family Sunday lunch at a long table here to celebrate my Niece' 18th during which England hammered Panama in the 2018 World Cup. You can imagine the men couldn't leave their phones alone whilst being poked in the ribs by their partners. But as the goals went in and the food went out we were duly informed. "Yes, Kane scored a penalty. Was yours the goats cheese salad?" I was impressed.

This was a lovely find. Good coffee. Interesting lunch, well prepared and served. Great people running the resturant and coffee shop. We were made to feel welcome and in fact went two days in a row. For coffee and lunch.

Brad and his family and team welcome us to the Country Lounge every time we visit, including when we are in lycra en route on a bike ride or with the (well behaved and very friendly!) dog.

We had popped in late last year for a drink and to check the place out and found it very busy, the atmosphere was lovely, we decided to go back for Sunday lunch today and really couldn't fault anything, we had pre booked a table ( booking advisable) and right from the moment we stepped foot in the door the service was outstanding, Brad and another young man ( sorry didn't catch your name) worked wonderfully together, they were polite, chatty and very attentive, the food was lovely, we started off with pate and smoked salmon and Crayfish, both were of generous portions and were beautifully presented, for main we chose chicken and pork, again the plates were plentiful and separate veg was delivered which could've fed 4 people, for dessert my husband had syrup sponge and custard which was very light and delicious (I did try a couple of mouthfuls) , check calls were made on all 3 courses which shows dedication, you could tell that there were repeat customers in there as Brad sat and chatted with them which totally won the experience for me, well done Wansford Country lounge, service, food and ambience was truly amazing, please give it a try, you will not be disappointed and let's not forget compliments to the chef, see you again soon ❤️

A WONDERFUL coffee shop with a selection of cakes, hot and cold drinks. A menu of beautifully presented food, from brunch to lunch and Thursday,Friday and Saturday evening meals. Fresh vegetables and local bread. Friendly staff . A lovely place to catch up with friends or family.

We've been twice now and find it very professionally run and the food is exceptional. The owners show the utmost respect for all customers and have a perfect balance of friendliness and efficiency. Can't recommend highly enough.

Good place to relax and you need to be able to relax because service is rather slow so take a friend or a book.

Attended a birthday party here yesterday and had a lovely meal. We had the Steak & Ale pie for main and pavlova for desert. The food was served up hot and on time. Super service the guys were very friendly and the atmosphere was great. Would definitely go back again.

We went here as a family group, 4 adults and 2 children having heard how nice it it. We only had coffee and cake but it was very nice and the service was very good. We will be going back probably to try Sunday lunch.

Living in the village, have popped in a few times on a Sunday morning for breakfast (pity they don’t open before 9am though)

Took my mum here for a meal and the food/service was amazing! The young man Bradley was very accommodating and welcoming. The lasagne was up there with the best I’ve had! Will 110% be coming back!

Visitors to the area, we called for a quick lunch on the premise that it was busy on a Monday lunchtime so was probably OK.

We have just enjoyed a delicious breakfast. All freshly cooked . Lovely golden yolk eggs and non greasy black pudding included in the plentiful Country Full Breakfast. Good coffee friendly service and very nice setting all made for a lovely breakfast experience.

WCLCB is well presented, modern and clean, the room itself is nicely decorated and its great to have this place as an option in the Peterborough area. However the overall service could be better and lets it down unfortunately, some attention to detail is needed as another reviewer mentioned. Some small improvements in that respect could make this restaurant very good indeed.

My partner and I had breakfast here. It's a fresh new place with a pleasant ambience and lots of space. It's obviously a popular meeting place for the locals socialising over a coffee so it was quite full. We had to ask for the menu. We felt that £8.95 was a bit eye-watering for the Full English so avoided that. I opted for a sausage bap at £3.50. They were out of baps (at 10.30?) but could do it with bread. I was a bit shocked when it turned up: a meagre amount of sausage between two toasted slices of packet bread. Seriously? This was Morrisons-level food. I wasn't asked if I wanted any sauces. My partner had smoked salmon and poached eggs at £7.25. It was nicely done but like my own, the food was not over-hot and served on cold plates. When asked, she mentioned this to both waitress and owner to be met with the usual muttered "sorry" and embarrassed shrug. English restaurants, eh? So, it was ok but not up to the standard expected at these prices.

A confession: when I wrote my original review, I inadvertently put it against the B & B which is part of the same establishment. Silly me! Suffice it to say, I stand by my original comments. This is a lively, fun place to visit with interesting menu choices and well patronised by locals, not just ladies who lunch. It deserves to prosper. We will return.

I've been 3 times and all have been really lovely. On my last visit I took a friend who is a veggie (no food with a face). There was only one choice on the menu. So it was risotto or nothing.

What alovely cafe bar! Just what the area wanted...so well decorated ... Fresh and comfortable ...we were here for the first time for a spot of lunch and it was delicous...the owner came over for a chat and we will now become regulars ... infact we are already looking forward to returning for dinner after seeing recent evening menues! Loved it!

Friends of ours booked the restaurant so we had no pre-concieved idea of what to expect. The restaurant has a cool lounge bar feel. I liked the decor and it's relaxed atmosphere. The menu is small and didn't cater for vegetarians. That being said, the food was all delicious and I can highly recommend the steak and ale pie.

It was a wet Saturday afternoon so we decided to try the cafe as we live in the village and we were not disappointed. The cafe has very nice decor, very original. The seating is comfortable and service very good. It was packed I guess other people had the same idea. Anyway we ordered tea and cakes, the portion sizes are very generous and the cake excellent. The tea was served in a large pot, good for refills. We thoroughly enjoyed the experience and will return to try a lunch. They now also have an evening service on a few nights a week and have started a Sunday lunch, so that would be interesting to try. It’s a welcome addition to the village and we wish them every success now and in the future.

Wansford Country Lounge - Cafe & Bar opened for business around four weeks ago. This was our first visit.

What an absolute delight. A small, extremely welcoming place to eat which has been serving evening meals just for the last 4 weeks. The chaps were great and got the balance just right with friendliness and professionalism. The food was superb, not only in taste but also in presentation. It was a pleasure to eat here. Please relocate to my village...

Came here for some brunch, food was average, service good. i purchased some cake to take home but there was no take away boxes so looked like i had come from a kids birthday party walking out with cake in a paper towel! also paid a lot for the pleasure.
