My boyfriend and I went for a surprise dinner with his family here as part of his 30th birthday celebrations. The food was brilliant, but the service absolutely exceptional! Marco was the most charming and helpful waiter we could have hoped for, and ensured that we had a fantastic evening. All the staff accommodated our requests very smoothly, and I am very glad we came here for a special celebration, as it definitely was special!

We live locally but have never got to eat here. On arrival we were shown into a lounge-bar area which had a very strong smell of cigarette smoke? The service was polite and efficient. On being shown to the dining room we were told that owing to two functions at the hotel we were the only people in the restaurant. We we sat at the curved booth as shown in the profile picture. The first impression was that the seating area was grubby an had more than its fair share of food stains. The food was nicely presented with portion size around what you would expect in the type of restaurant. Although the Scallops were £8 each and some of the smallest I’ve seen. Ribeye steaks were a little hard work and was surprised that fillet was not available. Overall a pleasant experience, food was excellent, if some items a little expensive. The whole evenings cost was actually quite reasonable as a total, but some ingredients would benefit from an upgrade.

Couple of years ago were spoilt with the tea time spread and decided to try out their "traditional Sunday lunch"-looked online and it read very well. Come the day-the menu presented to us was just a touch amended-downwards in what was actually now ones choices. Heaven knows why the "traditional roast topside of local beef" has vanished;whole point of booking up something special-and badly let down. Have suggested to Hotel direct that they "update" what actually is served up. Last straw was cheese is now a £4 supplement -when online clearly included. 2 other special treats listed online stated pan seared salmon supreme(now cod served up) and roast fresh highland partridge-also not shown. Clearly a popular venue but sadly we felt badly let down with actual presentation. No doubt others will have done their homework beforehand and also felt just a tad annoyed as well??

The service here was fantastic and the bar area before you have your meal was just as you would expect when looking at the exterior of this grand building. Food wise it was good. I wouldn't have the smoked haddock scotch egg again (but it was well cooked) but other starters looked very nice. Mains were great, I had the Rump Steak which was all of 5 or 6oz but made up for lack of size in flavour and texture. Cooked to perfection and obviously high quality meat. My partner had the tofu and she tells me it was tasty. We finished off with the Sticky Toffee Pudding with ginger ice cream. Very very nice. Now to the HUGE negative. The look of the Dining Room is a cross between a cheap high street Curry House and a Premier Inn cloakroom. It's one of the least inspiring rooms i have ever eaten in. I was so close to giving this place 3 stars but that seems so unfair when the service and food are 5 stars.

My daughter chose here for her wedding venue and reception and she would have struggled to find anywhere better. Excellent food and fantastic location. Only downside, no draught bitter and only one bottled bitter. Had a suite for a bedroom which would have accommodated everyone at the reception but I do appreciate my own privacy, so didn't try it.

An interesting visit. Generally the staff were very good - although one member found it difficult to converse in English. The salmon as a starter was excellent as was the main course of salted cod. We shared the cheese and biscuits. The cheese was a little hit and miss - all had been just taken out of the fridge including the soft cheeses. The blue was not particularly strong. We liked the ambience of the room itself.

I have enjoyed several pleasant afternoon teas at Buxted Park over the years, sadly today's experience was not one of them. The rowdy wedding party made it less than relaxing. Tea was served in a very tired looking side room. Serviettes were dirty. Sandwiches were dry and there was a distinct lack of staff presence presumably because of the wedding. When the staff did appear they were very helpful. All in all not a good experience and I will not be rushing to go back.

After a cold walk, my friend and I went to the Hotel for a Hot Chocolate and afternoon tea. The receptionist looked unsure but led us to a roomm and after some discussion we were allowed in. Nobody came to serve us, so eventually we went to the bar and ordered, still nobody came, finally caught the eye of a very indifferent member of staff. Gave up on food, but just had half a cup of cold 'Hot' chocolate, then we were hemmed in by a large party and had trouble trying to pay and leave. I was sorry as my friend had enjoyed it last time. If they were too busy for us it would have been better to have said so. The room was rather depressing and shabby, noticed also that the curtains were old and tattered. May try again in spring.

I have twice before eaten at the restaurant with real pleasure. The food has belied the rather odd ambience but always been of high quality. Today, lured by an offer for lunch, became a never-again moment. The service was both casual and faux-comedic, which was not what was wanted. The menu was dull and the execution frankly poor. Pubs do better fishcakes. The desserts were below ordinary. We will not return.

We have just returned from a visit for afternoon tea. The food was excellent and very plentiful, but the service was not being managed. We had our afternoon tea in the bar, which was very attractive, but our poor waiter was trying to serve us and the other guests who were having afternoon tea, as well as serve at the bar, take orders and payments, with some assistance from one colleague. There was no sign of a manager and we ended up leaving our payment voucher on the table as we waited so long. Also there was a constant clattering of glass/china in the bar area that was not easy on the ears, especially as there was no background music to mask it. The high sided tub chairs are also very uncomfortable and not really suitable as you have your arms pinned as you are trying to eat.

Had a great experience here for breakfast and dinner twice each. The food was excellent the service just as good, the only thing I could constructively criticize is the price of wine but particularly the strange partition around the central dining table which I think closes the room right down, otherwise it would be lovely with the ceiling window shedding light throughout. Would definitely go again!

We brought my mother and our two nieces here for Sunday lunch. Service was good and very attentive. Good value for money with, on the whole, quality food. There was one exception which was my starter -smoked ricotta and granola. This was a miniscule portion and it had Rice Krispies in the granola which was hard and chewy, A very weird decision to put this dish on the menu and very disappointing. All other food was good and we even took a doggy bag home! They also did a lovely birthday celebration mini dish for my mother with a candle and piped happy birthday on which she and I both appreciated.

I booked afternoon tea for two by telephone. Our tea was average, the sandwiches lacked imagination, with a good selection of cakes. When my friend and I paid we were asked if we had booked the 'two for one' offer. At no time when I booked was I offered thisr so consequently we were billed for two afternoon teas. We were not impressed with this situation and it marred what was otherwise a pleasant afternoon. Next time we decide to treat ourselves to afternoon tea we will definitely take our custom elsewhere.

The dining room is actually quite intimate as it is split into separate areas by some banquettes in the centre of the room. Canapes, and an amuse bouche were included in our set menu meal. Each course was imaginative and well presented. The manager, Marc, is highly professional. My only modest complaint is that the wines are a bit pricey. We had a Chilean Pinot Noir which was very tasty but £42 a bottle.

This meal was a present from my son to my partner for his "big" birthday and what a trip. We had a voucher and the booking was straightforward with one of the receptionist who was delightful however when we needed to amend it the next receptionist was not particularly pleasant! All was forgotten, we got drinks and amuse bouche in the bar, taken to the dining room for a sumptuous 3 course meal. Chicken terrine was divine, had best new potatoes I have ever eaten (mashed with olives!), the chef himself came to talk to us to explain recipe, and a pudding to die for! Only little point is that the bread rolls are doughy and tasteless however did not go there for the bread but for an exceptional dining experience and it was because every single person who served us was truly passionate about giving first class service. East Sussex/ West Kent has very few restaurants of note so I was interested to hear that Buxted Park had much improved in recent times. This may be so but it still falls short in several respects. The best feature is the decor of the dining room which is lovely. Also, my main course left nothing to be desired. But the first course ( a crab risotto) was just rice stodge with no discernable crab flavour: I left it and was given a reduction of the bill. The pudding was OK, but no more. Service was friendly but unpolished (and included a totally inappropriate attempt at a joke). What remains of former times is the bleak entrance hall and the depressing room in which pre-dinner drinks are served. The latter is gloomy and filled with brown leather club-chairs. So, although the pricing is not extravagant, I am not sure if the attractive appearance of the dining room would be enough to get me back, given the hit-and-miss cooking. The distinct shortage of fellow diners on a Saturday evening suggests I am not alone in taking this view.

We've eaten at the Dining Room and Orangery at Buxted Park both for lunch and dinner. The lunches have always been good if not brilliant and not bad value. The decoration inside is obviously opulent but a little frayed around the edges. The lunches have all been in summer and the view over the terrace to the rear of the building is stunning as are the gardens themselves. The dinners we have attended have been theme (Valentines, etc.) so maybe a bit unfair to rate on; however, I would say the experience has been nice if quite pricey. Overall a beautiful setting which with a really amazing chef could be a Michelin Star contender. Unfortunately they seem content to be a good restaurant rather than outstanding.

This is a lovely building with pleasant grounds. I took a friend there for Afternoon Tea on a winter afternoon. The selection of afternoon tea was reasonable and we were given a choice of two lounges in which to have it. The presentation was very good, the waiter very polite and helpful to a fault with extra sandwiches when requested and fresh tea.

Moonface and I dined at 'The Dining Room' at Buxted Park Hotel last friday evening. The restaurant is tastefully decorated but totally out of character with the rest of the hotel. Sadly, the reception area is a bit Hilton-ish, making it strikingly obvious the Buxted Park is now under ownership of a chain of hotels. We perused the menu over a drink and a cheeky fag on the terrace - nice to see this was encourgaed, even, by the restaurant manager. I opted for the crayfish thermidore whilst Moonface decided on the scallops to begin with. I picked the monkfish whilst Moonface opted for the sea bass for our mains. We chose a bottle of Fleurie and Nick asked us if we would like it chilled. I have heard of red wine being chilled before and we often choose this to accompany fish when eating out but never have I been asked this in a restaurant. It was delicious! We were offered some interesting breads to begin and then for the food....

We were looking for a place to have coffee and cake after Michelham Priory house and garden visit. We discovered this lively and quirky tea garden. It was very busy with groups of families and friends. It was organised and provided a friendly service.

Being a bit of a Sunday roast connoisseur I’d heard good things about this pubs Sunday roasts! Booked it up (recommended) and had the three meat roast! Way too much for me BUT oh my god was it delicious. The meat was melt in mouth, Roasted potatoes just right, all homemade and with the biggest Yorkshire pudding I’ve had. The gravy stole the show, it was delicious and I’d love to know how they made it taste sooooo good! 10/10 (my first ever) I’ll be back for sure!

Great food. Generous portions. Good vegetarian options. Buddha Bowl was superb. Lovely location and garden and friendly staff. Good choice for a dog friendly lunch out. We'll return.

Dreadful menu and terrible service. Menu was limited to say the least and they didn’t have what I wanted. Had breakfast there this morning and couldn’t have poached eggs only fried, reason being ‘we only have 1 chef’ ……a chef who can’t poach eggs!!!!
