The Wheel Inn in Wealden

Unfortunately they have changed their menu and while I previously gave them a glowing review for their gluten free offerings they no longer have any. I did reach out to them to see what was gluten free on their menu but they never came back. There might be a steak that can be eaten but it isn't clear. So sad as the menu before was epic and was going to be a regular haunt of mine and my family.

It’s now the third time that we have visited the wheel we try to go local but sorry to say the Will win is not the place we will visit again three times we’ve been there and no food and that was on a Friday night sorry Will you’re just not good enough

I met up with a couple of work friends here last month. None of us had been to this pub before and it was recommended to us by someone. So we thought we would try it out. I booked us a table online - very easy. It was a horrible evening of rain! We arrived and we walked into the pub. Ahead of us was the bar area we all got looked at my the local people that was sat at the bar it was a bit off putting really. We walked round to the side I explained we had a table booping, we were shown to our table which was in the bar area but it was quiet at first so was nice. We browsed the menus. There was not a lot of choice if we hadn’t all gone for what we chose I think we would have struggled to find something. The waitress came over to ask for our drinks we ordered what we liked. We had a chance to look at the menus. We all ordered the same main course, which was the steak with the choice of chips sauce and was served with a sun dried tomato salad which was very tasty. I did have to tell The girl how I would like my steak cooked otherwise she wouldn’t have asked us! She went away and we caught up how Friends do! It got a bit busier during the evening and a lot of people gathering around the bar which made it difficult to then hear one another and the loud was getting heavier and heavier. Our meal came out. We all got what we asked for and needed. (The only thing that put me off was the waitress kept leaning over the table to give me my drink + meal when there was plenty of space for her to walk round I found that a bit rude!) The steaks were all cooked perfectly to our liking so have to have mine very well done no blood! The meat was very tender and it was just cooked to perfection! I had the peppercorn sauce - a little different to how it usually comes but it was okay. The salad and the fries were good too. The plates were taken away and we ordered puddings and some more drinks; - I had a latte. She brought this over but didn’t offer or bring any sugar over so I just had it without. Two of us ordered the crumble think it was rhubarb and pear and the other person ordered lemon panna cotta. A few mins later after taping the puddings the waitress came back and explained she had made a mistake and said there was only one portion of crumble left. So we could either split in half as 2 portions like they serve at lunchtime or one person orders something else. It was agreed who had what. I ended up with the crumble but wish I ordered something else. I didn’t enjoy it there wasn’t much taste. The crumble mixture was dry and the flavour from the fruit was dull. My friends enjoyed the panna cottas and they were served in a nice tall glass. There wasn’t much atmosphere in the pub - just loud noisy groups of people gathered around the bar until they made there way into the side of the pub. There was a few people sat around us but it was that busy. We got the bill paid and made our way home. We enjoyed the evening and maybe one day we will return.

I visited with my father, partner and 2 children and we had a lovely Sunday lunch. Intially disappointed they weren't doing Sunday lunch (they were starting them from the following week) we had a great meal and I would particularly call out the gluten free fish and chips. Such a treat to be able to have this and it was so tasty-rare to find this in a local/rural pub who tend to offer vegan/vegetarian food but little for those who have allergies! We will be back the pub is beautiful and a mix of old and new and really light and welcoming. A great find.

What a fantastic place. Lunch for the family was first rate, our waitress/barmaid Ellie was brilliant and made us feel at home. The pub, the games room and gardens are gorgeous. Absolutely worth a visit!

Wow wow wow, authentic traditional, vibrant, old school country pub. Staff are welcoming and attentive. The food, I’m dribbling just writing this, we had steak and triple fried chips (fries) WHO IS THIS CHEF???? If you want the most perfectly cooked steak with the most amazing flavour then you should book. We drove 35 minutes to get there and were not disappointed. Rarely do I give food anywhere 5* but this was sooooo good. Oh and I’d recommend the Merlot to go with it, plums, chocolate and Smokey, it’s a wine that you will savour.

We started with some great cocktails. I had steak, which was juicy, flavoursome and perfectly cooked. The landlord suggested a perfect wine pairing (Australian Shiraz). Overall I would highly recommend a visit to The Wheel.

It’s been a while since my last visit and what a difference! Very happy with the over all experience and the ribeye steak is a must! With sweet potato fries! Will most definitely be returning. Also tried a 0% alcohol Guinness, pleasantly surprised

Was a lovely meal very happy with the Service.

I don't normally eat steak very often as it's always disappointing BUT had the most amazing steak I have had outside of France here!! Absolutely mouth wateringly fabulous almost cut like butter just incredible!! If you love food and in particular steak this is your place!! Fantastic!! You could cut it with a butter knife and amazing meat! TRY IT YOU WILL DEFINITELY NOT BE DISAPPOINTED!! Also the most fab veggie vegan pad Thai I have ever tasted! Cannot recommend enough!!! Fabbbbbbb xx

Superb Steaks, great french fries, the new menu is fab, you must try it out. The taster menu was an inspired idea.

Polite staff, who are welcoming, vibrant atmosphere, the food is absolutely fantastic, the steak was perfectly cooked, tones of flavour, an absolute delight.

They now do a light, inexpensive 2 course lunch and it wasn't bad at all. I'll try a Sunday lunch next. High hopes for the new team there.

We thoroughly enjoyed our visit to the Wheel Inn. Unfortunately there was a limited menu, due to an up coming change, but this was not a problem. Vicki could not have done any more to make us welcome, & accommodated us at every turn. Her warm & friendly manner continued ensuring our enjoyment for the entire visit. The only feed back:....I would have preferred to gave my tea served in a teapot, instead of the teabag in the cup. A little messy.

A little quiet mid week but the pub is going through it's soft open. Friendly staff, good coffee. I had the Fish and chips which were great, the batter was light and the chips were fluffy and golden. The panacotta was the perfect end to a great meal. Looking forward to working through the menu in the future.

A very tasting roast chicken dinner, only criticism is the yorkshire pudding. Rhubarb & pear crumble was lovely. Very polite & friendly staff.

I just loved the service from Antonia and the food...Great flavours and responsible prices...the sausage and mash was fantastic...Thoroughly recommended!!!

Originally I gave this lovely old pub an excellent review, my partner and myself went there about 3 weeks ago expecting a really good meal. My partner had eggs royal on a muffin, it was inedible as the muffin was hard and stale, the hollandaise sauce was horrible and indescribable. My Chicken Satay skewers we’re not up to par, the chicken was over cooked and hard and the peanut sauce was bland and tasteless. We like our food but we couldn’t eat this food served. So disappointing as previously we had a good meal. We found out the original staff had left and these were new people running it with a new chef. We only got billed for 1 starter and 2 drinks after complaining. Based on our recent experience we cannot recommend this place as you would be disappointed unless they change their standards. I must admit we wondered why the car park was near on empty at lunch time and we found out. Since my review this lovely pub has changed ownership, so my review cannot stand. I have left it in place and we will be going back to give this place our attention to experience their food and I will bring my review up to date afterwards, look forward to seeing you soon

Been to the Wheel a few times now since the change of management. Always had a friendly welcome and felt nice atmosphere. The food is amazing, me and my partner both went for the burger today at lunch, both agreeing it was 10/10. Great to have a nice pub with amazing food in the area.

Went for a meal tonight we was made to feel so welcome,quick service and really nice food nicely presented and tasty.my daughter absolutely loved playing with the game s will visit again soon.

food was delicious, fish melted in my mouth and even more delicious was the tartare sauce (home made).

Visited this pub for Sunday lunch on our way to see Battle Abbey. The roast dinner was truly excellent. Everything was really hot. We enjoyed the starters - the home made cauliflower and stilton soup was delicious. We were too full to try dessert. Service was excellent too.

We visited this charming pub one Sunday afternoon and were greeted by extremely polite staff . The food was delicious and nothing was too much trouble for the staff , two roaring fires and comfortable seating making it one of my favourite pubs so definitely worth a drive out to.

We visited the Wheel on Sunday for a family celebration. Four of us had roast beef and one had a veggie roast. We all agreed it was the best pub roast we'd ever had. The desserts were excellent too. Highly recommended.

First time visit for a Sunday roast but also had to have a starter and dessert! The food was superb…..all very tasty and plenty of it (don’t eat before you go!). We would highly recommend…..my wife said it was the best roast dinner she has had in a restaurant 👍 The staff were all very friendly and attentive.

Our group of 4 enjoyed a really tasty Sunday roast today (we had pork belly and beef). Everything was cooked very well and the only thing stopping me eating my last potato was that I had no space left! Would happily come back for Sunday lunch again. Also had a nice glass of mulled wine. Lovely warm atmosphere with cosy wood burner / log fire and friendly staff.

Visited here on our walk from Woods Corner. A delightful pub set in the quiet village of Burwash we were warmly greeted. Staff were very friendly. Food was excellent. We only wanted a snack so had the bbq chicken wings and a portion of cheese and bacon loaded fries. Both were excellent. Definitely recommend and we hope to return soon.

Such a good Sunday roast dinner, no skimping on the meat portions like some are guilty of, real fires going, staff were super friendly and helpful, attentive but not overly, we will be back.

We are in the process of buying a house nearby and took my parents here this evening. Very enjoyable, good food and very friendly staff. Roaring log fires and good music! Will certainly be back.

We just had to trial the new autumn menu, and we were not dissappinted. The short beef rib was amazing, tasty, and the meat fell off the bone. The truffle mash added an extra lift to the dish. Just superb! ... and the creme brulee 👍. Come and try for yourself. 😋

Superb Sunday Roast! We visited The Wheel for the first time yesterday, and absolutely loved it. The Sunday roast was possibly the best we have ever had, with roast beef and pork belly cooked to perfection and the vegetables delicious. The wine was also excellent (Rioja in our case). The choice of blues music was unusual, but actually worked really well in the charming dining room with log fires burning. It was a cold, dark and wet day, but our visit more than made up for that. We'll be back!

Sunday Lunch at the Wheel. Fire going and amazing Sunday Lunch served swiftly and pleasantly by the staff. Good, excellent. Actually best Sunday Lunch for many years. Scared to rate it too highly in case it gets so busy I can’t book it again 😊

We have been here a few times and the food is always really good. We went to their special fish night, and just wow! Superb gourmet food that you wouldn't have exoected at a local pub. It's a little more expensive than the usual menu, but it's well worth it.

Popped in for a light lunch and wasn't disappointed. Great music, very friendly and quick service, but this was expected as it was mid week and quiet. Food was of good quality and very tasty. I chose the sticky toffee pudding after all the rave reviews and they were not wrong. So light and fluffy with just the right amount of sauce, best I've ever had.

Highly recommended. Food is fantastic and service excellent.

Fairly basic pub, with definite lack of character. Food was adequate, but green tomatoes in a salad?

We were welcomed warmly by staff, and they served all our requests pleasantly. We had a excellent meal 16 September 2023. My husband had Thai infused King Prawns, served with a satay sauce, followed by Lobster. I choose Salted Cod Fritters followed by Halibut, served with artichoke, mushrooms, turnip and mushroom consume. Other family members had Scallops, Lobster Crumpets followed by Salmon en Papillote, and White Miso Charred Cod. We shared, side dishes Dauphinoise, Fries, Salad and Chilli Butter Seared Broccoli. We could not eat all that we ordered. Food was fresh and very tasty. Great chef. We could not find fault with the service or meal. We will be back.

Took my father for Sunday Lunch. Friendly Staff, good value and excellent food. Beautiful yorkshires and the lightest sticky toffee pud I’ve ever tasted. Great to see all the local pictures on the wall, my dad has lived in Burwash all his life, and his mum knew Kipling, this is a lovely touch. My dad is already planning his next visit! Thank you, we’ll be back.

Had the Sunday roast here on 13th August. Roast pork and gammon mix. Absolutely bloody amazing. Best roast ever, ever, ever had in a pub and good value too. Huge portion so the dogs are getting lucky later with the doggy bags. The staff were lovely, so attentive and nothing was too much trouble. The chef came out to say hello so we were able to thank him personally for his superb dinner. Will deffo be going back to The Wheel and feel very lucky to have found this little gem just a 5 minute drive away.

Oh my goodness! The best Sunday roast ever! Massive portion of extremely high quality food. Fabulous bar staff and service. We will most definitely be back!

We had a very enjoyable couple of evenings during our stay near by. Very friendly and the food was excellent. Our dog was also very well looked after!!!

I popped in here one Friday lunchtime. I just wanted a light bite and drink in my lunch hour. I don't come up this way much but will do now. They had a function on but the young lady behind the bar was very accommodating and quick as a flash made me a bowl of Fabulosa chunky chips, served very promptly and with a smile. I have been here before, years ago for a birthday function and that was brilliant. I would highly recommend this pub to anyone.

We stopped here for my birthday on the way to Eastbourne. As we entered the, we were amazed by the cleanliness of the establishment and friendliness of the staff. We had a wonderful lunch outside and the girl who served us was very welcoming. Many thanks to the chef as well for cooking us a great meal. I highly recommend this place for a quiet and quaint meal out.

Very welcoming, dog friendly good honest food, a lovely mug of tea after our 3 hour walk for£1 !We were able to leave our car safely parked after we had lunch, delicious ciabatta rolls which were well filled! All so friendly and even had biscuit treats for the dog! Loved it all.

Looks nice inside and out. Did not eat, just stopped for a quick pint. Not over impressed with the Harvey's bitter long past it's best

We had a great meal at The Wheel last night, a new reduced menu expertly cooked and served with care and charm, we had the pie which was a proper pie with a base, full of meat, great flakey pastry served with mash or chips , veg and a jug of lovely gravy, all great, highly recommended, we will return.

Had just the most wonderful evening there last night (13th May 2023) watching the brilliant 21 Whiskeys An incredibly warm welcome from Tyne started the evening, it just got even better from then on it. A lovely pub, laid out well with a decent sized bar and lots of staff, a really friendly crowd, terrific food and excellent service A proper 10/10 from me, it’s just a shame we don’t live closer or this would be an absolute regular!

Amazing food and amazing staff! We were welcomed with the lovely Nikki. She was very attentive with great humour, we felt very looked after. The food was portioned well and left us feeling stuffed! We only had mains and pudding and felt satisfied after! We will definitely be back .

Nice ambience with the open fire in winter. We've been a couple of times and I enjoyed the burger and cod goujon sandwich.

Had a great lunch. Very tasty. Where were seated was a little cold at first, fire not lit at that end.

What a lovely place. It's nicely understated, with good service, good food at a reasonable price. As well as the main menu, there is also a specials board to choose your meal from.

We enjoyed another great quiz evening at The wheel, always fun in great company, really well run in a light-hearted atmosphere where team interaction is encouraged, lovely to see teams increasing each week. The new management have really brought The Wheel back to the community...

The new (ish) owners have turned this pub around and are serving delicious food - which is a bonus for us as it is our local. The Roast Beef was splendid with just the right amount of beef, roast potatoes & a large Yorkshire pudding....

We met friends who had travelled from Brighton easy half way stop. Lots of parking, excellent lunch menu we chose fish and chips , fish cakes and scampi followed by sponge pudding and ice cream. Nicely cooked and with friendly efficient service. Very clean pub...

Celebrated a birthday at The Wheel tonight after hearing great things about the food. It certainly didn't disappoint. Generous portion of liver & bacon with mash and veg just melted in your mouth. Steak & ale pie with chunky chips was enjoyed by the men of the group. The manageress was happy to allow us to bring a birthday cake and eat on the premises. Staff were attentive without being intrusive. Pub has a lovely relaxed atmosphere and our little puppy was made to feel welcome and given a treat.

Fantastic Sunday lunch. Large portions and delicious roast beef with a good selection of vegetables, all cooked perfectly. Lovely pub with a roaring log fire. Perfect escape on a rainy lunchtime!

Good food prepared well and with originality. Beer is Harveys so excellent. The ladies were disappointed that there were no cocktails available but the gin covered that well. Friendly staff
