Awesome a proper old school pub with genuine locals chatting about life. What the country is missing

Busy for mid week night. Good service.

"local pub for local people!" The piano music didn't quite stop playing as we walked in the door, but this is very much a pub for locals! Only bog standard beers on draft. Nothing remotely interesting. And only 1 ale on too. If you live in walking distance you'll probably go there. If you don't, I wouldn't make any significant effort to do so

Very friendly bar staff. However didn't accept card in the function room which there's no real reason not to with how inexpensive it is to get a card machine and a wireless router these days.

Sat outside in the sun, a covered area also there with large tables. Quick service and they are serving food at weekends.

Attracted by the Harvey's - which turned out to be perfect - we paid The Alma a visit early on a Saturday evening. Very friendly pub clearly a hit with the locals. The food was very fresh, well presented, and tasty. Good value too. The only drawback was the nasty tasting guacomole (first-world problems eh?) served with my daughter's nachos - the staff said "well it's not out of date so it's OK" and gave it back. A "sorry - we'll change it" would have been better. ANd did I say that the Harvey's Sussex Best was excellent?

Nine of us visited The Alma for an early supper, a traditional pub. Parking was easy as there is a carpark plus on street parking. Really good varied menu, everyone commented that there was a number of things on the menu they would be happy to have. From burgers to scampi to duck breast - all were tasty decent sized portions. Those that had chips said they were very good. Good selection of gins. We'll happily visit again.

Fourteen family members had the best Christmas Day lunch. The food, staff and service were exceptional. Each course was presented well and homemade, even the delicious truffles with our coffee. Couldn’t fault anything. Thank you and well done Ben, Michelle,John the waiter and most importantly the chef.

I’ve reviewed the Alma several times before but a new chef has been in post for a while now so I though we’d try lunch. A good varied menu is to had here with some good burgers and a specials board. We opted for the fish and chips. Nice crisp batter and flakey tasty fish. Good portion size all freshly cooked. Reasonably priced well worth a visit.

Popped into this pub for the 1st time today. It was about 2pm on a Tuesday, so was quite. But we were greeted with a smile from the lovely lady behind the bar. They have a great selection of Harvey beers. The pub was warm ,cosy and clean. Loved it

Can get very busy and noisy at certain times and days of the week, but our midday visits have been very pleasant. Good menu choices, although think some dishes are priced high. Sandwiches are really nice, I like the tuna and selectors on Brown bread, with chips-yes a small cost extra. Good range of drinks and friendly helpful staff

Enjoy Harvey's Beers wherever we can get them. This little pub has perfectly conditioned brews from Harvey's Brewery. Particularly loved the bitter and also tried of a couple of bottles too. If you love your beer give this place a try. It deserves our support

Having moved recently about 5 miles away, and having passed the Alma several times, we had never given it a second look. What a mistake! On the way home one Sunday lunchtime, we were intending to go a little bit further, but (as much as anything else) curiosity got the better of us. On entering, we were greeted with a lovely smile and "Hello". On ordering drinks, we were invited to sit and pore over the menu while the drinks were brought to us. Not an extensive menu, but, hey, this is a pub, not an expensive restaurant. May had roast beef (enormous), and I had a burger. ( I would have had the fish and chips, but had that on Saturday!). Being piggish I had bread and butter pudding too. A great meal, well presented, and the staff were fabulous - we look forward to going again.

I liked the atmosphere in the local pub and it was nicely decorated. I ordered fish and chips and received a huge piece of fish beautifully friend and really good chips. It was a little pricey but overall good.

A great sunday lunch. Had the scotch eggs and lamb. All local products and cooked to perfection. A must if in the Area. Well recommended.

Visited Alma for first time since new chef arrived (well first time for food) Family party of six. Choice of four roasts plus main menu. Half had sunday roast half eat off menu. Food good, service good, reasonably priced. Beer as normal impeccable. Highly recommend.

Went there Friday night as a family group. Food was piping hot and tasty. We had a variety of dishes, would especially recommend the smoke. Good choice of wine, beer and cider to accompany. Also great service. Will be going back.

We popped in before the Uckfield Blues Festival for a quick early bit and enjoyed our dinner very much, old school lovely traditional pub. Our fish & chips was very was huge and very tasty, my husband ribs disappear very quickly! Thank you.

A good sized venue for parties. Good service and reasonable prices at the bar. Nice pub garden and a generous party spread. Enjoyed it, and would recommend as a decent place for a party.

Este es un pub con el personal dispuesto sincera y buena comida. Si sólo había más de una bienvenida!

Yo soy muy exigente y difícil de complacer cuando se trata de comida y no tengo problema diciendo que jamás es cocinar ¡es errónea, en las 3 veces que he estado por la comida que ha sido perfecto.

Pasamos una tarde preciosa de domingo con un grupo de amigos jugando a los dardos. El pub siempre un buffet para nosotros, ofreciendo para cocinar más patatas fritas o patatas si es necesario. Excelente quiche - chile con carne, el sabor era fabuloso, no me gustaron tanto la salchicha y cebolla, pero otros elogiaron. Una buena selección de sandwiches. No terriblemente accesible, pero el personal era amable, y probablemente la ayuda de Access si se les pregunta. El aparcamiento estaba lleno de Honda goldwings sin señales de la ciclistas, probablemente eran en la sala de actos. ? ! Así que aparcamos en la calle, podría ser útil si uno de los espacios de aparcamiento de coches era reservada para los titulares de la insignia azul. Una encantadora sussex pub que sirve cervezas de Harvey's entre otros.

Un pub que sirve de Harvey's amargo y un extenso menú de pub. Mi pastel de carne con cerveza fue uno de los mejores que he probado y salchicha de mi esposa y sándwich de cebolla era de calidad equivalente. Esas dos comidas, una pinta de Harvey's y una lima y soda nosotros detrás sólo £20. Tanto que sería muy feliz si Este era nuestro local y sin duda volveremos.

Having heard good word-and-mouth reviews about the new chef we decided to try out this Harveys pub on a Saturday night. Rang and booked for a 6.30 pm table for 4 and it was a good job we did. Whilst busy it had a friendly buzz with folk that looked like this was their local. So, the food?Shared starters of Ham Hock terrine & Calamari, both tasty, the former large enough for a lunchtime main. Then Shetland mussels ("very tasty"), braised beef cottage pie, Chicken,ham & leek supreme ("packed with meat") and my lambs liver, bacon & mash which was delicious and beautifully cooked. We didn't have room for pudding, total £53. Think I'd have been disappointed with the lack of choice were I a vegetarian. Next time I won't have a starter and hope the choice of puddings will be larger and I'll have one of those!This is very much a local's pub, where we'd never been before but live within walking distance of. At this rate I can imagine it becoming a firm favourite within the town.

This guy is amazing and a trained professional! A 10oz rump steak the best I've ever eaten. New menu. You need to try it and make sure you try the triple cooked chips!

Food is absolutely delicious. Had several meals from the new menu and haven't been disappointed. Every dish is full of flavour! Definitely worth a visit.

Having been away for for 4 nights and eating out each night, we decided to eat out why we returned home. I had fish pie & it was delicious.

None of our party found anything they fancied on the (quite limited) Curry Night menu, so we ordered from the regular menu. The food didn't take too long to arrive and the staff were friendly enough, but the dishes were all pretty bland.A bit disappointing, really.

The food is fabulous and varied. The prices are very reasonable and the service is good and friendly. It's so good I have to wait til Wednesdays as the restaurant is closed Monday and Tuesday. It is worth the wait.

Enjoyed an early evening meal with friends. Helpings are ample, which is a shame as I would have liked to try a dessert! Very well presented dish which was delicious. We all left empty plates. Would highly recommend to anyone, wish it was in Lewes.

We chose to have lunch here because of the choices on the five course Christmas Day Lunch menu. I was joined by two others. There was only one dish,a dessert that disappointed us.There was a lovely friendly atmosphere and the restaurant was beautifully decorated for the event.

I always visit The Alma when in Uckfield and am never disappointed. The service and food is always of a high standard complimented by very friendly and attentive staff.

Always smiling and service is incredibly quick and the harveys pintsare the best ive had. very well kept beer. Adam the chef has some amazing skills and the food was superb. A very charming pub all in all and will continue to go there as soon as i get a chance!

I booked up to have Christmas lunch with a friend. We had preordered our meal so when we arrived the table was all set for our choice of menu. The atmosphere as always was very warm and inviting and the service was excellent. The meal of 3 courses was absolutely delicious and certainly maintained the high standard I have always enjoyed. Highly recommend a visit here. They serve food lunch and evenings Wednesday to Saturday and lunch time on Sundays. Love it.

I’m torn between keeping this a nice little secret or advising the world of this hidden gem! It seems only right and fair that I should share! It has the cosiness of a friendly local with the unassuming delight of superb food and drink at more than acceptable prices a refreshing change from the pretentious, highfalutin arrogance of nearby newly refurbished establishment. An excellent wine list offering very good quality wines at extremely reasonable prices I have paid a lot more for a lot less elsewhere the Malbec was delicious. The roast lamb was exceptional the largest most tender slices of lamb I’ve ever had, tasty veg, perfect roast potatoes and spot on gravy none of that watery nonsense. A nice calm but warm atmosphere you could hold a conversation with out having to shout and the staff helpful and friendly with out being in your face. In short loved it great food and drink at great prices will definitely be returning.

A very enjoyable and well organised Christmas Day experience the food was plentiful very tasty and good quality, the timing between courses and the service was just right. Definitely three cheers for the chef who performed over and above and pulled it off fantastically I would highly recommend it for 2015!

What a day! 5 course Christmas lunch with champagne.Absolutely brilliant food with excellent service. 50 people catered for and the chef got 3 cheers and a round of applause.Book early for next year I think it's going to be popular in 2015.

Sunday roast was very nice. good choice on the menu, yummy meat and selection of veg. Christmas pudding after was also delicious. Great selection of Harveys, very well kept, on offer. Friendly staff, great pub atmosphere. Enjoyed our visit very much

The bar staff are always very cheerful. The chef is an absolutely amazing cook and would definitely recommend this pub for a good afternoon out

This is fantastic family friendly, brilliantly run pub just off to the side of the town centre of Uckfield. It is more or less split into 2 sections, a bar area and a sit down/restaurant area. The bar area gives off a real local friendly banter vibe where everybody knows everybody and is always welcoming towards newcomers. I have eaten there on several occasions with my young daughter and it has never failed to impress me more each time. There is a standard menu with regular 'pub food/snacks' and weekly specials board with 5/6 main dishes. I have eaten off both menus and have never been left feeling empty or cheated. The food is simply delicious. It is always flavoursome, presented elegantly and delivered by a smiling waitress or the chef himself. Everything is cooked from fresh to order, so although you may wait 10mins longer than you would at Wetherspoons, it is NOT MICROWAVED and definitely worth the wait. If you have special dietary requirements or just simple questions about the menu, the staff and the chef are always helpful. The value for money is exceptional and personally I would be more than happy to pay a few more £'s and still eat there. The bar staff are always happy, attentive and make you feel comfortable and at home. If ever you're in Uckfield and you feel peckish or want dinner......GO TO THE ALMA ARMS!! It's such a delight and I wish every pub was like this one. 10/10

The menu at The Alma is really great and the choice of specials which run weekly are really tasty and very reasonable. The food is all locally sourced and of the highest quality. The atmosphere is very welcoming and the service is excellent. Every Sunday they serve a delicious Sunday Roast but there also other choices if you don't want a traditional roast. They have live music nights which are great fun and for the Christmas period have special Christmas fare which can be booked in advance. I am looking forward to my Christmas meal next week. Highly recommend a visit.

Dry and salty "carvery", very few options to have and not worth £10 at all. Felt very cheated. Never coming here again and warn others about the experience.Tried to explain this to the manager and all I got was "oh really?"Stay away.

Went to a live music night and had a great time. Have been there before for bbqs in the summer and food was great. Have booked the function room for our sons 21st.

We quite regularly visit the Alma Arms Pub now. It's got a good atmosphere and the food is above average with large portions at a reasonable price. There's plenty of seating inside, there's also a small beer garden and children's play area.

The food we had Saturday afternoon was again fantastic .Not sure why this pub is not busierHouse burger (not for the faint hearted) good well presented food.specials board changed regularly . Good beer as always .You get what you pay for in life, this is no microwave dinner

The new chef has transformed the menu. The food is fresh, tasty and great value. My partner and I have eaten there twice in the last month and both times were impressed. The ham and eggs is gorgeous with thick slices of succulent ham and the lasagne is superb. The portions are generous too. By far the best pub food in Uckfield town now. Well worthy of a higher ranking.

Really lovely saturday night meal had the burger it was gorgeous definitely deserves a return visit.

A warm welcome. Many perfectly kept real ales from Harveys and a guest brewer. A good menu and some specials. Gammon was served with fresh pineapple and was excellent. Steak and Stilton pie was the best my father could remember. Can't wait to return.

Fantastic food especially Saturday nights which are Thai food. Really relaxing atmosphere and made to feel very welcome. We have also attended parties in the function room which have been brilliant! Will definitely make this a regular place to eat!!

This is my local while at work. For an avid fan of the Harvey's brewery this pub is a must. They always have at least 4 of the beers on tap (well it is a Harvey's tied pub so that's not really surprising I suppose!) and their all kept really well. In addition there are many of their bottled beers available to. Any real ale lover will know there is a massive difference between a poorly kept and a well kept ale, and here they know what their doing! Haven't eaten there for a while but the food used to be pretty good, but, like the title of my review says, for me it's all about the beer!

We had a Christmas meal here in December, it had been a while since we had eaten here and booked with slight trepidation. I have to say we weren't majorly disappointed but neither were we impressed. We ate our meal and were given huge portions but I can't say the food was excellent, it was ok and if anything was possibly lacking in flavour. The chef is Asian and we did see that the offer a Thai menu at other times which I expect is of a much higher quality than a Christmas dinner. Bar staff are polite and eager to please.

I have been to the Alma many times during the past few years but during this past year things have rapidly declined, the food is terrible bring back the old chef! The bar staff leave a lot to be desired unfriendly bordering on rude at times I definitely will not be returning in the future!

A nice local pub filled with regulars. Good ale in serving Harvey's. A pub for the older generation. No issues in parking and relatively close to the town centre. If you want a quiet drink go there.

My family and I have been in the Alma numerous times over the years and visited for lunch last Saturday. What on earth has happened to the food in here? My husband and I has the seafood lasagne and the meat lasagne. It was awful, so sloppy and tasteless. My children has fish and chips and that too was straight out of the freezer. Nothing home cooked any longer with this food ! Strange portion sizes as well. My children had a normal amount of chips with their meals and my husband and I had 9 chips each! Sorry we definitely won't be returning until you get your old chef back who served home cooked food'!!!!!!!!!!

Ate here early evening. Potted shrimp was in fact prawns in clarified butter. Fish was defrosted in microwave, then battered and cooked. Also had the roast which was standard pub fayre and nothing special.Overall average for a midweek meal in a pub. Beer was very good, Harveys is well kept and service reasonable. My main observation is to keep the food fresh and the menu smaller.
