The White Hart in Wealden

After searching for a place that serves food later in the evening we came across the white heart,on entry we were a little surprised with the cost of £25 for a roast,now I would like to add I have no problem spending money on food but it seemed a bit punchy on price,but being hungry we decided to put that to one side,we both ordered the roast beef,it said that it came with cauliflower cheese so thought that might make up for the price as usually they charge extra. But when it arrived,the beef was over cooked,we had pretty much no cauliflower cheese and the only veg on my plate was a pile of mange tout and literally nothing else! We were asked if the food was ok,which I was honest and said I was disappointed with the lack of veg,due to the fact it’s exceptionally cheap,bearing in mind we had a roast in Brighton only two weeks ago which was full of veg and the beef lovely and pink for £17 I feel sadly this is incredibly over priced for what you get.

Called on the off chance as not normally open on a Monday. Nice little pub with good beer garden too. And car park. Staff were great. Nice choice of starters/mains and puds. Salmon/Burgers were mains and were lovely and freshly cooked, chips better than the fries I would say, Few more choices I liked so will be going back.

Found this gem after a recommendation from a fellow foodie friend. Second time we’ve been and just as good as the first. Burgers are great, good beers on tap. Desserts very nice and staff great. No complaints here, recommend 👍🏻👍🏻

Guy who runs the place looks like he lifts pretty heavy he's in good shape

Staff were amazing, very kind and attentive. Both our steaks were unfortunately slightly overcooked and rather tough to get through. We were hungry so didn’t want to wait any longer. To be honest ive had better meals for half the price. Over £100 for two people with a tiny starter to share (4 pieces of crispy squid), a main each and two drinks. Slightly over priced considering we went for a cheaper steak.

We took some friends there at the end of last year, and we were so embarrassed we didn’t return until today. We decided to give them another chance but I feel this is the last time we will visit. Last time the roast beef was tough and overcooked and the gravy near nonexistent, but I was advised I could get some more if I paid £3! Today, my husband ordered a chicken burger, which he has done on and off for 10 years, but he was left flabbergasted by the tiny chicken breast in the burger compared to what he’s used to. We know shrinkflation is happening everywhere but their prices are very high. After complaining about this, the waitress just said that was standard, which we know from experience is not. The goodwill gesture which arrived after he had finished the burger came in the form of a chicken breast with two cold pieces of processed cheese chucked on top of it. It was awkward. If the rest of the meal had been fine, I would probably not be writing this, but our two roasts were served with burnt roast potatoes as well! We miss our favourite place to eat, when the owner cared about his customers and could be seen in the pub getting feedback and suggestions from the regulars and he clearly cared about the place. Now, forget about swapping chips for onions rings or asking for extra gravy, it’s all about charging as much as possible with all the charm and customer service gone.

My family and I had worked all day clearing out a large garage right around 430 we called this Pub to make sure they still did food. Yes they said We all turned up there. The staff was very nice and the service was fabulous but then we ordered three roast dinners That I wouldn’t have even served to my dogs. It was disgusting roast potatoes, black hard Yorkshire pudding flaky burnt vegetable disgusting even the gravy was disgusting. My daughter ordered a chicken burger which was all dry and vile. The only thing that was good was my son‘s £50 steak But even then his fries were all burnt as well. The fries that came with the chicken burger.were also burnt…. we called for the manager she came over if she was the manager I do not know she was very nice. She took three roast dinners off the bill which to me was not enough as I have been in the trade and had several pubs of my own that is not how I would’ve handled it. It’s the first time I’ve ever been there and we were recommended to the place but just let me say I will never return McDonald’s would have. . Visited for Mother's Day. Food was delicious. Great that staff were all friendly, enthusiastic, & attentive.

Had a fantastic roast here today. Staff were really friendly, helpful and attentive. My partner and I had an extended nappy change with our daughter and when we returned to the table the staff had thoughtfully put our food back in the kitchen under the hot lamps for us so the food was hot on our return. Food was excellent, staff amazing, gorgeous pub. We will definitely be returning again!

We visit this pub/restaurant often, but it’s the first time I’ve had one of their roast dinners. I had the duo roast which comprised chicken and beef. It was absolutely delicious! The Yorkshire puddings were huge, the vegetables varied and beautifully cooked and the gravy rich and plentiful.I also had their cheesecake which is always so light and fluffy, it’s amazing!

What can I say? A fabulous meal as always. From start to finish the atmosphere is wonderful. A great selection of meals including their famous steak night on a Thursday evening. Our meal was delicious along with their lovely red Shiraz. If you’re local, this is the best steak in the area. Make sure you pay them a visit.

Sunday lunch was the order of the day today. First time visitors to the White Hart, Buxted. A beautiful village pub serving a large range of drinks with a good choice of food available. Welcome was warm on this cold, wet, blustery Sunday. I had not booked but luckily there was space. Opted to have the pork burnt ends starter. This was tasty, certainly got the taste buds going. Portion size was a little meagre though I thought. The aged roast beef was absolutely delicious. A good sized portion, with a variety of vegetables served to accompany the medium rare roast beef. Could not resist a pud. I opted for the sticky toffee pudding with custard. Beautiful steamed pudding with lots of toffee sauce and hot custard. A perfect finish. Harveys Sussex Best was a fantastic pint enjoyed with the meal. I only have one gripe. Additional gravy was available but at a cost of £3.00. I felt this was a mean additional cost that was not a wise move. Will I be back absolutely.

Wow, not only the best steak, the whole team were amazing, we felt very looked after, nothing to much trouble and of course the food was different class!

Beautiful Pub with, glorious fireplace. Known for its steak-sharing platters. Which looks amazing, and huge. The staff are so lovely and friendly. Will revisit.

We were half way through a long hike when we decided to pop in on the off chance they could squeeze us in for a Sunday roast. Extremely accommodating despite us having muddy boots and a dog. The pub doesn't look much from the road but is unexpectedly nice inside - the bar was cosy and the restaurant at the back very welcoming. One of the best roasts we have had in a while and service excellent throughout. Very much worth the pit stop .

We visit The White Hart regularly and always enjoy our time there. The pub is very welcoming with the two bar tenders having been there for several years working as a great friendly team. We took advantage of their burger night (Wednesday’s), which is 2x burger meals for £12.50 each (this offer excludes the most expensive burger). I had the Gochujan Burger which was a delicious medium spiced burger and my husband had the steakhouse burger. We came away very full and happy. 😊. Steak night (Thursday) is just as good, as is eating there any other night of the week!! Would thoroughly recommend.

We went there for our roast dinner on Sunday. The starter was very nice. My roast dinner was very tasteless too much filo pastry not much filling. When ordered the vegan food I didn’t get Yorkshire pudding neither cauliflower cheese. The filling was also very bland. Potatoes very roasted too much that I could barely cut them. We ordered water few times which wasn’t brought for ages. The whole deal of 35 for 3 courses was more that the 3 courses I chose - all together for 34. It’s such a shame it looks like a lovely restaurant from inside. The dessert was very nice too.

The waitress / bar maid was very pleasant and engaging. She did everything right. The beers were good. The food however was less than average. We had to send back 3 of the dishes - the kids tomato pasta was inedible. Perhaps the chef was away as it bears no resemblance to the other reviews I can see here.

We met school friends here whom we haven’t seen for 20 years. Lovely pub, excellent roast lamb Sunday lunch, great service, nice ambiance and super value for money. Decor very nice inside Would highly recommend 👍

We had such a fantastic experience at the White Hart. We needed a post Glyndebourne supper and thought it was likely that we would be a little late for the last table booking. The team were extremely friendly and amenable, regardless of our delayed arrival. The food was delicious, even my fussy children cleared their plates, which is a rarity! Altogether a fantastic experience, thank you. We will return.

We can't recommend this place enough! Excellent and very knowledgeable service from Adele and Bobby. My husband had the steak which he said was one of the best he's ever had, especially as we had just eaten at a top steak restaurant in London earlier in the same week. The White Hart matched the quality and at a great value for money too. The staff couldn't do enough for us. Make sure you keep room for dessert. The crumble was fabulous! Great pub, great service, phenomenal food. A must try if you're in the area.

Long overdue date night without the kids. Service, Drinks & Food all excellent. The White Hart has majored on steaks for many years and have recently added larger cut individual steaks (as well as the sharers). I had a thick cut rib-eye which was cooked to perfection and delicious!

Visited today for a Sunday roast and had a fantastic meal. I chose the guest roast which was turkey and it tasted lovely and all roasts come with a massive Yorkshire pudding on top. The cheesecake desert is worth the visit alone! Lovely atmosphere and staff that are always attentive and welcoming. Wouldn’t hesitate to recommend

Great Sunday lunch as always . 3 courses for £35 back on the menu. Cheesecake always a winner. Beef still melts in the mouth. Fabulous way to spend a rainy Sunday afternoon.

Amazing food! The roast dinner is the best I’ve tried so far. The meat is really tender, the menu selection is good and different to most restaurants which is a nice change. Staff are really friendly, great quality food definitely worth the price, will be returning!

Absolutely disappointed beyond belief. Why even bother opening and advertising that they do food? We really should have walked straight back out the door upon entering. But we had read reviews and really wanted to try this place. The staff were disinterested. Pointed to a table where we were to sit for our evening meal. We were given what can only be described as filthy sticky pieces of paper that were supposed to represent a menu. The table was dirty and sticky with drink stains. Nevertheless we proceeded to order 3 main meals. Over an hour later we still had no food and not once did anyone come over to the table to explain why. The place was by no means busy. There were 4 tables with customers! After approximately an hour and 10 minutes we asked if there was a time that we could expect our food to be ready. Bearing in mind our order was for baby back ribs, a steak burger and a chicken skewer. So not overly complicated. We were told that there was only 1 chef working!. And that the manageress would go and check for us. She returned to say that food would be ready in 5 minutes. Approximately 10 minutes later the baby ribs and steak burger arrived. We had to wait a further 5 minutes for the chicken skewer meal. When it did arrive the chicken was cold and absolutely cremated. So much so that the chicken itself had started to disintegrate and a powder of charcoal remains were on the plate. Absolutely disgusting and inedible. Our entire party left all the food and we went to the bar to pay and left. Disgusted, disappointed, disillusioned and would NEVER RETURN

Had an excellent roast at this pub. The service was outstanding and the place had a great vibe. We were even able to order our roasts over the phone when we booked the table at midday even though we weren’t going to eat until 18.00. I can thoroughly recommend.

We visited the white hart for a birthday after months of wanting to visit. We had been here on many occasions for drinks but because of the cost we decided to wait for a special occasion to visit. We booked a table on a Sunday, however on arrival it was very quiet. We asked if we could sit in the conservatory which was empty apart from one table. We were refused and told to sit at a table by the bar. Which is fine but only one other family arrived at the premises In nearly two hours and nobody else sat in the conservatory so we were a bit confused why we were refused here as others were eating. We then ordered the kids burgers which looked great and they enjoyed. We also ordered chicken wings which were ok. A bottle of red Spanish wine witch wasn't what we ordered from the menu. See photo. We ordered a crianza and received a reserve. We did question the bar manager and she responded with "that's the only rioja on the menu" and smiled, left. When we bought it up with the waitress she just said "ok". Now, my partner who's birthday it was for our special visit is from Spain and from this area who knows these wines well. So knows we were sold the wrong wine and was brushed off. Unfortunately his roast wasn't as expected either. Two thin overcooked slices of beef and a very sad spread. Sadly won't be re visiting.

Completely by chance as passing through the village. Amazing and wonderful food, on a par with a NYC burger. Service superb…a complete gem and made even better by being so spontaneous and unexpected.

Fairly mediocre food, in a nice atmosphere at top draw prices

Have eaten before and it's always been good, but recently we booked out their (very nice) conservatory/garden room for my parent's 50th wedding anniversary and it couldn't have gone better. The setting was really nice with access to the garden area. Buffet food and drinks were really good and both regularly topped up, we had a waitress taking drinks orders who was lovely - all the staff couldn't have been more helpful. My parents had a wonderful, memorable afternoon - thank you so much to the team! Would thoroughly recommend for people looking to book out a room for similar events.

Despite only having two members of staff, the chef and one other, they managed to accommodate our party of 13 at 8pm on a Thursday evening. My meal was cooked really well, I had the chicken skewer and I can't thank them both enough.

Ah we love this place! We specifically come back JUST FOR THE BEEF DRIP CHIPS!! And we come from Kent, so it's not a short journey :) They are sublime, I dream about them :D Each time we come we have the best time, the food is perfect, the staff are lovely, can't be more helpful! And the pub itself is charming with a fantastic garden filled with flowers and wildlife. It's a special place for us, it has a special energy. We shall be back!! We visited The White Hart for their Wednesday Burger Night. The food was delicious and perfectly portioned. The beef dripping chips and garlic prawn starter were particularly awesome. The stand out from our visit was the staff. An endlessly smiling, friendly and attentive young lady served both our drinks and food. I hope the landlord knows how lucky he is to have such great staff.

Should be much busier than it is. Great service and interesting interior. Food is really close, I'd be inclined to halve the menu as it's good value for money.

Both me and my wife really enjoyed our meal, well cooked steak and the service from the two women working Thursday night was first class. They even handled the table next to us complaining about a blue steak "not being hot inside" with grace. Was our first visit be we will be back.

What a delightful restaurant at the White Hart! The cocktails are very good and the food is just brilliant especially the amazing burgers. The staff were so friendly and helpful, we’d definitely visit again next time we’re in the area - can’t recommend this highly enough

My Vegan wife very much enjoyed her coli steak, even going on to ask the recipe and I had the best roast Lamb I have eaten in ages. This place is great - you won't be disappointed!

This is a great place for lunch. Fabulous freshly cooked food, I recommend the slow cooked lamb tacos as a starter. Very helpful pleasant staff. A small menu so all cooked fresh.

Had a wonderful dinner at The White Hart this evening. We both chose the roast beef, which was delicious and came with lots of perfectly cooked veg and very impressive Yorkshire puddings. The desserts looked good, so we shared a peach and raspberry crumble to follow, also very delicious. Add to that friendly staff, super fast service, local Harvey's beer 🍺, and some gorgeous dogs. Definitely a winner winner roast beef dinner! Recommended.

An unplanned visit to this pub on a walk. Friendly welcome and lovely atmosphere. Bar staff were very pleasant and happy and knowledgeable to answer questions on the drinks available. Decided to eat after seeing the food coming out and even though we hadn’t booked they accommodated the 3 of us and our dog. Nice to see a family and dog friendly pub busy.

Cost and friendly pub with great food, been for, drinks, burger night and steak night in the past few months, the themed nights are great value and we found the kids menu to be very good too - literally mini main meals opposed to the run of the mill pizza or nuggets offerings!

Really great food - onion rings and chicken wings were delicious as were the lamb tacos. Super helpful staff. Very accommodating of my allergies, which was much appreciated. Tasty range of beers and ciders. Really cosy decor and welcoming. Busy night with a party out the back, so food a little slow in coming out but completely understandable as to why and staff were lovely.

What a lovely place. We had lunch on a Saturday. There were open fires at both ends of the lounge bar. The lady running front of house did a fantastic job of working the bar and the table service. She was super friendly, and the service was first class. The food was freshly made to order and was well presented on boards. It's mostly meat based but there are some options for vegetarians and vegans. Highly recommended.

Called in for a drink, with a friend, after a very long hike around buxted park and beyond, as soon as you step inside, you get a warm welcoming feeling for the place.

Food took and hour to come out after ordering for it to be wrong. Ordered BBQ ribs got hot and spicy instead.

We were introduced to this restaurant pub by our friend and his larger than life companion Moose. Absolutely beautiful location clean warm environment friendly staff. Exciting menu to choose from along with specials and Thursday night steak deals for two. Food was absolutely spot on vibrant flavours and meats cooked to perfection. Will definitely be back. Disappointing Sunday roast lunch served slowly and just about warm Roast lamb definitely better than the beef.

Sunday roast was fantastic, meat (beef) a little bit under for me, but served as it said. Next time I will have an alternative meat, but absolutely no complaints from the 5 of us. Dog friendly too, will definitely be going back !

Had lunch in the beer garden on a sunny Sunday. Burgers were great and so were the chips/onion rings. Would go again!

Very disappointing meal. We had to wait more than 45 minutes for our main course and the sirloin steak was the worst steak I can remember eating. Accompaniments were frugal. The only good things were the desserts and the company of our friends. Complained and did not get courtesy of a reply. Will not return.

As we have heard this restaurant is re known for its food we thought we would give it a try. 14th July 2023 we went there for dinner. A lovely looking place but inside was old with a contemporary looking twist. Service was good but this is where it ends. My partner had the vegetable tart, it was tasty but seriously dry and she said she wouldn’t have it again although it was the only thing on the limited menu she liked. Definitely not worth £17. I had the Korean pork belly burger, I did get confirmation from the chef it’s not going to be too hot!! It looked lovely on arrival then I tried some! Big mistake, the hot sauce had completely covered everything and soaked into the roll making it soggy and disgusting. The heat from the sauce over powered everything and turned my burger inedible. So so disappointing and obviously I couldn’t eat it. This was a £17 meal that remained on my plate. We complained discreetly and was given discount, personally we shouldn’t have paid anything!! The least the chef could have done is to come out to apologise! But this was left to the waitress. Coincidentally there wasn’t many tables taken and out of the 2 other tables we did over here them complaining about cold food! Maybe I should have offered to warm their food with my sauce! We will never be returning nor can we recommend this place to anyone.

First time at the White Hart for many years and have to say did not disappoint. The Street Corn starter is brilliant and the roast (vegetarian option) was equally good. Staff great and beer (Harvey’s Best) very good. Wife said her WHB Bloody Mary was fab. Will be back soon.

We visited here for lunch and the food was delicious and the portions were big. The staff member who served us appeared to be the only one working but did such a good job managing everything. The atmosphere was ok but I don’t think this was helped with it being a quiet lunchtime service.

On our visit in Buxted we decided to visit this place, and boy did it not disappoint. We visited a grand total of three times in the course of one week cause their food was so splendid. Their steak and ribs were fantastic. I will add as a side note that the fried onions on the ribs were not as nice, as they had turned pretty hard - but it could be scraped off and worked around. Especially the dry-aged sirloin was unlike any meat we've ever had before. We came back sunday for their sunday roast, which was absolutely incredible. I had the guest lamb roast which was perfectly cooked and plentiful for one person. Their selection of vegetables with sweet potato, peas and cauliflower was a delicious supplement too. The starter of dumplings we had was also worth mentioning, definitely my favourite of the options we've had. Spicy and flavorful. Last time we went for their burgers, for which they had a very good deal on Wednesdays, and were once again delighted. I can especially recommend their sweet potato fries which added a lot to the dish. All and all, a wonderful restaurant and one of the few I've been to that had me consistently looking forward to visiting again.

Disappointed after booking this based on reviews for a family 50th. The waiting staff were prompt and polite, however the food was pretty average for the price. Skinny chips were like lots of ends and bits, heavily tasting of oil. The chicken bbq burger had no bbq flavour. I'm wondering if they forgot it. Chicken was hard. Very small portion for the price. The cheese cake and Eton mess sundae were also disappointing, really basic and the strawberries were on the turn. Gin and tonic average. Toilet was also filthy. We won't be back I'm afraid.

This pub is a hidden jem. Great cosy pub and friendly helpful staff. Longman beer, amongst others. Good selection of whiteley nie gins. The food is great. If you're in to steak, then this is Definitely the place for you. Dry age steak, with dripping chips. Mmmmm. We will definitely be going again for their steak meal for a couple and wine for £55 also my partner said her veggie meal was perfect.

Nice Sunday roast, food was good, service was a bit slow, clearly a pretty new team but they were all friendly and served with a smile. Good deal with the 3 courses for £30. Garden looked inviting in the sun this afternoon, although still a bit cold for eating out in my opinion, but others were enjoying the early spring sun out there! Overall, a nice place for a Sunday lunch with the family 👍

We were a group of 4 staying nearby for playing golf the next day and it was very easy to book at The White Hart. When we arrived, the staff were very welcoming and let us know about what's available or what wasn't but we're very friendly. The food was superb, two of our group got the tomahawk steak and it was incredible - well worth the extra. The rest of the platters both the starters and mains we ordered were all to a great quality and delicious! Good music and good atmosphere and the lady who served us was very attentive and made sure we had everything we wanted or needed. We were last out the door, and we even asked what the music was they had playing and they hooked us up with the Spotify playlist! 10/10. Fantastic choice for meat lovers.

Waited 1 hour 10 mins for food after ordering. Wasn't worth the wait - everything was over done. What I first ordered wasn't available - it was a Friday night for goodness sake, stock up for the busiest days of the week!

A lovely country pub, nicely decorated, large fireplace and good food. Definitely return.

I very rarely come over this way a d it's always nice into a place like this. The staff were very friendly and helpful and the roast was great.
